Just from the start of the vid… Yeah, it didn’t feel good to win rounds based on those “technicalities”.
I'd feel the same way. I can only imagine it doesn't feel good to be on the winning or losing side of the matches based on time.

I guess my previous comment somehow vanished after I edited it. I really appreciate hearing how others have reacted to this competition and especially this video. The scoring system was pretty broken and especially sucked because I got the raw end of the deal multiple times. On top of that the Miles bug was really frustrating happening on my very first fight. Without taking anything away from Happy and I’m Bleh, I felt like I was fighting from behind after dying to a bug on my first fight, and I really appreciate that you recognized that fact in your video. If anyone is interested in reading more details you can check my forum post.

This was so disappointing, I thought Miles was perhaps the best pick in the whole showdown. Was really looking forward to showing off his capabilities.
The Miles Morales fight was a perfect example of the BS in this game and the BS that Kabam keeps doing.

But that same BS that happened with Miles Morales and then Ebony Maw is the same kind of BS that happens to me all the time and people wanna defend Kabam saying it never happens like that, well take a look at it again.

Kabam Miike on the very first sentence of that forum post said that it was an issue that affected the outcome of the match, and then ended the forum post by saying that they wouldn't redo it because they didn't think it'd affect the outcome of the match. How would not getting blasted by two sp 2's not affect the outcome of the match????? Also, you should probably only get points for fight duration if you win the fight that'd probably fix the problem. ALSO also, there's no chance that they didn't catch that until the end of the series, every single person in chat was calling it out right when it happened. ALSO ALSO also remember when they said that Mangog's sp2 was un-dexable? Not sure if that's actually true but if you think that it is then how can you include unblockable specials? You're not even giving the other person a chance in that case

It should have been that if you are KO'd you get more points for a longer fight duration and if you KO your opponent you get more points for a shorter fight duration. That makes the most logical sense.

Any champion would like to win in more fair ways to prove in front of the community.
I stopped doing any content that might end up challenging at all bc Kabam is getting more and more incompetent and i don't have money for therapy for nervous breakdowns
The scoring system should only look at opponent health remaining and then if that's a tie then move on to other factors like attacker health or fight duration.
It really was quite Atrocious. From passive AI's to silly node combinations to bugs to shitty scoring systems.
'New Game Mode' is no excuse for most of these issues. Fundamental errors that should have never happened.
I remember taking my Miles immediately to R2 as a 6 star after his buff and taking him in to use on the DarkHawk path in the Summer of Pain Finale.
Obviously, he didn't work as intended and it was only now after this competition that I understand why he was not working (Bug).
Kabams Forum response was disgraceful with Regard to this bug in competition.
Overall the Summoner Showdown was incredibly frustrating to watch.
I enjoyed the prospect of a new game mode, the idea of this game mode. That was about it.

How it should be:
1. Player 1 gets an attacker KO and player 2 does not = player 1 wins (irregardless of duration and remaining attacker HP)
2. Player 1 and 2 get attacker KO's = player w/ highest remaining HP wins (irregardless of duration); IF same remaining HP = duration is the "tie breaker"
3. Player 1 and 2 get KO'd = defender w/ lowest HP determines winner (i.e. attacker who dealt more damage); IF same remaining HP = longer fight duration wins (i.e. player who stayed alive longer)
The whole points based on time thing should only come in effect if both champs are dropped a certain % (maybe over 50%), or when the fight ends withing 1% of each other, cuz getting to 78.3% in 40 seconds is a lot more impressive than 78% in 70 seconds imho
I totally agree that the biggest issue with the tournament and how it was structured was the point system. I still believe the core objective and source of points should come from taking down the defender’s health. However, I also believe there could’ve been additional opportunities to score points. For example, some points could’ve been awarded to the attacker if they went into a fight with class disadvantage, or for performing certain actions in fights like intercepting. High level, I love the idea of this new solo competitive mode, but I don’t think it’s in Kabam’s best interest to create a mode and incentivise players to do the wrong things to win matches (like purposely dying to more quickly finish a fight after taking the defender’s health down to the same amount your opponent did in the round).
Agree with everything you said. But I would also mention that they need to do something so it doesnt turn into a pure sp3 fight (nodes has to be changed in some way), because there are fights where you see its impossible to stop them from reaching a sp3 due to passive AI, massive powergain etc. There needs to be other counters then just having to use Vision, who was without a doubt the mvp champion in this years showdown.
That Happy McMuffins fight Void VS Maw looks like a dex input fail.
They should of scored the fights differently though. Terrible approach.
The trick with fight duration needs to only register points for a victory or timeout. Not a death. Or at least add a deduction for being KO’d.
If Happy had any class he would have given the win to Werewrym. I don't understand how you can feel you're the champion if you get handed the win that way.
Are you saying he should have forfeited? In the heat of the moment, you would have done the same thing he did.

Second, he should have handed the win to Werewrym if he had any class because he may be the winner on a technicality but deep down he knows he's not a champion for "winning" it that way. That would have also sent a message to Kabam to force them to restrategize how they're running that clown fiesta of a tournament.
That scoring is horrendous. I do think different elements should be looked into when scoring but there should be some sort of checks and balance between the categories to balance the overall score. Maybe something like adding a multiplier to the point gained from time in match to the player who got more health down. Like if you take the defender down to 50 percent over 1 minute but your opponent only takes down the opponent to 80 percent over 30 seconds, your opponent should gain only a fraction of fight time points that you get. Or maybe for a more direct approach have fight time points be reduced based on number of hits taken, that way you can distinguish between getting killed and surviving a long time, so if your fight is only 5 seconds but you took 2 full combos you get little to no points, but if your fight is upwards of two minutes but you've not gotten hit you can receive more points. These are just some suggestions off the bat, my main point is that with a category like fight time you need to be able to distinguish if a fight is short because of quick kill or quick death and on the other hand a long fight could be because of dealing more damage or just because of stalling. Maybe the easiest solution would be to just have fight time only count if opponent is knocked out, and if not then just look at damage dealt. Or maybe have points for overall damage dealt, or some other category to balance it out. There are many solutions to this issue and it the current criteria just dont seem to be thought out at all.
Heyy bro. I liked the video and I understand what you mean. But this mode is about who took the most health the quickest. The time remaining on the clock is very important. So they not graded based on one stats they are graded based on 3 factors combined( health taken from defender time spent on the fight and health remaining on the attacker). I think the casters did a poor job in explaining the fight result. Looked like dorky wasn't really briefed by kabaam to break down the fight nor was john. (the 1st scenerio was an exception as kabaam themselves didn't know what would happen in such a situation. I totally agree the first case you showed with mile bug should have been redone.
P. S.- No disrespect meant to you @dorklessons because I always watch you videos of breakdowns. I believe the crowd had different expectations from the tournament than kabaam intended and that's why the whole rage situations is occurring.
I saw that time point issue right away. Time should only be given to you if you win the fight. If you want to use time with a loss, you have to do subtraction of some sort. Just poorly thought out by the organizers. That's why you shouldn't use a beta product for a contest like this...
I feel like the rules should change when you get knocked out. Maybe when you get knocked out you get scored by how long you lasted instead of how fast the fight ended
Of course there were bugs. The only thing missing from a Kabam shitshow was a mid-fight crash.

Its so easy to fix, if You both WIN You get those extra time points, if You both LOSE then neither gets those points or if they lose then just whoever lasted long gets more points

You’d think they’d make sure all fixes had been applied on the tournament server.
Considering everything you highlighted here was pointed out live and how other additions / changes to the game have been received in the past, I think they should chisel it into their hard heads to gather our opinions before putting stuff out.
Such a shame that Happy’s victory has been tarnished by all this. Such an awesome player but I would not be able to enjoy it if I were him.
The scoring was done very fairly. Yes the fight was shorter but maw was at 99% for which he got 170 point
P99 was at ~96 health and the other guy got 647 point for. just taking down 3% gave 500 points. Whereas the time also holds its own weight of point it does matter so I don’t see whats wrong here. That fight timer is literally like the fight time in AW that decides ties, but in this case it matters
All you have to do is listen and look at Dave’s reaction to fights. His face and tone says everything about this tournament. Congrats to Happy, can’t take away his win, however, the setup or design was bad, really bad.
Fair and insightful criticism.. Commentary didn't understand their own system.. Make time a tie breaker and solved that issue. This is obviously not consulted with any of the playing community for feedback.
Fight duration in war is OK as a tie breaker, not great, if the goal is reducing use of Quake. But in this game mode, it’s obviously a horrible idea.
It looks like it COULD be a really fun game mode, but scoring was ridiculous. I agree that fight duration would be a great tie breaker, but ONLY when the both defenders are KO'd. It makes zero sense that by losing the fight faster gives a player the win. I feel for both Werewrym & I'm Bleh in this regard. Not to take anything away from Happy's victory, but he seemed to benefit from this far more than any other player in the tournament. Again, I'm not trying to imply that he wouldn't have won in the end, or didn't play well, or that I would've done any better. I know for a fact that I would've had zero chance of even making it to the semi's, let alone the finals. And watching all of Happy's fights with Visions or P2099, he really has a mastery on this game & those characters in particular. In the end I agree with you BG there should've been a round 3.
The easy fix is that duration leans towards the champion that is alive at the end. So if the challenger solos the opponent, it’s how fast did they solo. And if the challenger is KOed then it’s how long did they survive. Then give a KO bonus, and everything should be lined up, with a weighting system of course.

The werewyrm/bleh fight def was unbalanced but the happy/bleh fight happy did more damage quicker even though bleh did more damage overall. Took bleh twice as long to deal 9% more damage. I think time duration should be a factor but it was valued too much for a quick fight. Like if your opponent gets killed without doing a lot of damage but takes a while you could just enter the fight and purposely die quickly and win a round.
After watching these series, it feels like kabam used those 9 players as guinea pigs for testing out the new fighting system.
I’m a casual player, so I’m looking forward to it. Winning by losing? Count me in!
Another frustrating thing ws the RnG element in terms of who u would get as options to be selected fr ur team

There were very few solos, probably in single digits if I remember correctly, & almost all of them were from Vision
It rarely happened that a player used Vision & couldn't get a solo
Whereas with other champs players were struglling to get the defender down to even 50%
I cn get that RnG has a place in MCOC, BUT it shouldn't have any place in such tournaments where the only deciding factor shoud be the player's skill level & his performance on that particular day.....everything else should be rendered completely irrelevant
And don't even get me started about the AI behavior
Spite & Buffet are nodes that heavily rely on AI behavior
How the AI will behave in a fight is another RnG element & having such nodes only boosts the significance of RnG being probably the most important deciding factor whereas it shouldn't even be a factor in such tournaments, let alone be a deciding factor

I'd assume the fight duration points are based off DPS so percentage doesn't matter just the DSP (damage per second) of the fight
Common sense should tell you that scoring system is completely backwards but typical Kabam, it's one thing if it's a bug in the game play but yo be in the showdown and act like it was no big deal that's the messed up part, great job to you guys that made it and great job on the video well said.
Wow, my fight durations against 6*s with 50k health last under 10 seconds. Maybe I should have been in this tournament. My fight durations would beat everyone else. I think the longer players stay in a fight should get more points.

The scoring was definitely atrocious, but the nodes made it even worse. It doesn’t take any skill unless you’re using a power control champ like vision or you’re getting super lucky with the AI. Crazy power gain is not skill dependent, it’s just annoying and unfair at times. Reminds me of when act 5.4 and 3 came out they made it so every quest had an Hyperion with double power gain. Just annoying.
Yay for HappyMcMuffins!, I follow his channel. From what i learned in this opinion video, Kabam didn't have the right budget for this event and had the wrong people set it up.
The reason is when this format of gameplay is implemented for real in the game in the near future - Time can be a real issue.
Imagine you're competing against this other guy - and you run suicide and you fight quick, and your fights are like 2 min. tops, do you want to be waiting for the other guy to keep taking 5 minute fights? Especially if you're fighting an Android user and it actually takes longer than that due to slow load time?
Kabam doesn't want matches to drag on and have the other guy keep on waiting and waiting for fights to end.
That's why Kabam introduced "Time" as a scoring factor.
I'm good with it, it makes sense. I don't think the gameplay would be as much fun if you have to wait and wait and wait for the other guy to finish his fight.
Take Incursions for example, what's the worst thing about it? The "Wait". We've all been there. I've done my fair share of waiting during Incursions with randoms. I usually run Corvus, Cap Marvel and NF, and do Sector 8 and ALWAYS ended up fighting all the bosses cos the other guy would take way too long. (I'm on IOS BTW)

Has anyone noticed the fact that before the fights start and they show which champion is the attacker and defender, half the time their classes are not right? Like I saw it once that black widow cv was of the tech class according to kabam's editing

I feel like the Summoner beating the defender should give the most points. If both Summoners beat the defender it goes off of match time as a tiebreaker. Second would be that there should be points given off a time out. It gives the Summoner more of a benefit for surviving as long as possible. In all other cases where both Summoners fail the previous conditions it should be on damage dealt the percentage left on the defender. Idk dying quicker and winning is dumb.
We may not see Kabam John after this Tournament and the Backlash they created because of the messed up rules they got there.

Ebony Maws Special never should have made contact with iBomb and wouldn't have but had it been a human being using Ebony Maw in the same exact situation against the same opponent, it wouldn't have come even close to making full contact.

I love this mode. LOVE IT. I love the idea, the basic build, the potential gameplay and fun to be had. I do not want another alliance war. I do not want another slog mode that people power through to get rewards. This could easily be the funnest mode in the game if they take their time, make the win/lose requirements CUT AND DRY, and LISTEN TO THE COMMUNITY on what we want to see in it. Open Beta this mode for a segment of players. So, so much potential, please don't rush this Devs.

What's new about Kabam. They do this always. Its hard at this point not to get disappointed by them.
Maybe its just me but I don't think the way they scored the fights was so much of as issue as much as the nodes were. If the nodes were actually manageable and you would not get wrecked by a really passive AI it would be different. I think if they could have just fought them normally and it was more like a boss fight in war where they can solo the champion more reliably, then fight time could have probably played more into the scoring process in a way I think they envisioned it to happen. Good thoughts and ideals , but just poor node choices made what could have been a cool mechanic, become a detriment in this case.
Kabam is a complete joke. They have no idea how to run a game, the players actually think its normal for a mobile game to be bug ridden like this.

Oh boy big miss from kabam. Easy fix would be that fight time only comes into effect if there’s a tie. Same health dealt to defender. And if a champion dies they benefit from longer fight duration. And if a champion finishes the fight alive they should then get rewarded for shorter fight time.
Time should only be a factor if there was ever a small chance that both players could have dealt the same amount of damage as well as having the same healthpoints and they were basically tied. Other than that, time should NOT be a factor in who wins.

This aspect really bothered me so much that I didn't watch the rest of the tournament. Seeing Happy McMuffins win was nice, but I don't like how he won.

It depends how you want to score the matches. What you’re assuming is that whoever is lower Hp is the winner regardless of match time. Either they should rework the weighting towards time remaining or they only use time remaining if it’s a Hp tie. But there’s nothing wrong with the scoring now. Its just weighted very heavily towards speed rather than how much damage you can do.
Personally I don’t like it. I think the time you take shouldn’t matter as much. It’s a hard fight as is with the ridiculous nodes and unblockable specials. The damage dealt or whether you can solo should matter the most. How long it took shouldn’t matter nearly as much. The node combos were silly as well. It seemed like difficulty for difficulty’s sake. What’s the point of this competition? You want to see the best skills. How is this conducive to that when the spite plus AI makes them go to sp3 within 10 secs of the fight starting. Showcase skills? Was just amateurish in design

If players win their fights then who ever had shorter time should get points. If they loose who ever last the longest should get the points. And for a win and loose situation it speaks for itself. Damn kabam it's not rocket science!

I mean...I really like Dave. So, this one is tough...but, the commentating???? Bruh!!!....it was ABSOLUTELY....aWWWful. Like....it couldn't even have been worse. I know you can't say it BG, because of your investment/stake/RUclips/Livelihood into this game...and you have to be diplomatic. But, even Dave was bad in this. And it's mainly cause how piss poor the whole setup was. HE himself could not BS to us 'how good this was' or 'how awesome the fights were' or 'how amazing the contestants did'.....As a matter of fact...Dave wasn't even bad...he was just being REAL....by being 'unimpressed' with the whole deal.
It was IMPOSSIBLE to really show off ANY 'skill' here. The nodes were ridiculous....it was luck based essentially(which we're used to with RNG) but, brutal for the players! The 'shortest time wins' thing...we can keep beating a dead horse here but....OMG....I'd like to see somebody try and explain that one. Like seriously. What the Absolute F!!? I know they're going to say....well if both players SOLO the match...the 'best time wins'....makes sense...BUT...when both players get SHELLED....the guy who got SHELLED faster should not win. That should just be implemented in the engineering. Which....leads us to...piss poor engineering.
