Life goes by slowly in the Texas suburbs, and Conan Gray captured the doldrums of his high school senior year in his first Indie song, "Idle Town." When the video hit his RUclips channel, it resonated deeply; after two and a half years, it's closing in on 15M views. The craft and catchiness of Gray’s music is central to his broad skill set. Gray said that once he began writing songs and sharing them with the world, he just wanted to do it more and more. After connecting with an LA producer and refining that craft, "Generation Why" and "Crush Culture" solidified a sturdy career path. Long story short? Conan Gray is going places. While enjoying a parade of positive press, he's opened for Panic! At the Disco and made a splash at the UK’s The Great Escape festival. The videos for "Maniac" and "Comfort Crowd" also prove Gray isn’t shy in front of a camera - flaunting a natural charisma is his strong suit. He performed both of those tracks in our Brooklyn studio, and fans are gonna love 'em.

It ain’t auto tune it’s pitch correction. It makes it so the pitch of his voice fits the note it’s supposed to hit. So on the parts where he is able to get closer to what they want it’s less noticeable

He probably chooses to have autotune as a stylistic choice based on the fact that basically every recorded live performance for an outlet or anchor has autotune. He also had auto tune when he was on tour with P!ATD

Okay. I’ve only heard it called auto tune so that’s all I knew.
Elayna Marie pitch correction and auto tune are different things. Auto tune puts a mask over your voice and completely alters it. Pitch correction changes the pitch of your voice to hit the pitch they want you to hit. That’s why at some points it sounds less noticeable than at other points in the video because he’s able to get closer to the notes. They’re similar but not the same

I'm a girl who plays the drums and I regularly notice that famous artists have mostly men as playing most instruments which leads me to believe (in another life if I was a successful drummer trying to make it my job) I would have an incredibly low chance of being hired. That's honestly just depressing. I'm sure other women who are professional drummers notice and are competing to get a place. I honestly feel this could have been a specific choice to have a female band not just that it happened that way.

english is not my first language and i can say for sure that Conan is one of the few artists i'm able to understand. he got one of the clearest voices i've heard as well as great diction. i'm glad he sings without that strong breathy technique that takes all the sweetness away.
