Banjo Kazooie The Hidden Lair is a wip mod made by Daveyx0.
The development of the game began in August 2017, and practically everything that we can see in the demo was made that same year, and in 2018 things were polished, the music was added and work began on levels 2 and 3. Unfortunately life is busy, so Daveyx0's new job caused the game's development to come to a halt, however he has confirmed to me that it is not cancelled, but rather on hiatus.
This demo was released on 2019, to celebrate the adding of BK in Smash Bros Ultimate
There were 9 worlds planned with different themes: beach park, coral cave, jungle, mountain peaks, volcano, moon crater, train station and beanstalk.

In my opinion this hack was one of the best ideas for a BK sequel. The idea of entering the castle using a hidden entrance is incredible, and the level design is similar to the original BK, without huge ideas and game changes, keeping the simple worlds with some platforms and puzzles... You can feel the essence.
I kept my eyes on this project for a long time. It is very sad that the developer just vanished from RUclips 4+ years ago..
Hey Kurko, I think its great you're showcasing other people's work. I feel with your clout in this sphere, it would be easy to just bask in adoration -- but you are willing to point out other creators and collaborate with them.
I'm sure you're sick of people asking "why don't you do any Tooie mods?" And then explaining to them that theres basically no tools to support modding yet -- but I do in my heart of hearts hope you'll be leading the charge to support those talented coders who eventually do make headway, because I bet your background of experience in this franchise would provide valuable insights.
You're like the Kaze Emanuar of BK, cant wait to see what you come out with next
Unfortunately I'm not a programmer, and there's not much I can do for now. Once a primary tool is developed to open the rom and mess with the files, then I will be able to help in my own way.
@@Kurko_Games I feel like the community needs to start a movement to attract attention from programmers to the subject. I would love to see Tooie finally cracked.

Harvest Hill seems a lot like the first level of the obscure Game Boy Advance game, BK: Grunty's Revenge.
Seems as long as thie guy’s around i’ll have plenty of banjo content to hold me over!!
This mod looks amazing, the level design looks great, almost like the banjo threeie we never got! My only criticism is that the custom music could use some more work. Granted, it's not easy to match Kirkhope, but there's room for improvement!

I used to dream about there being a “secret” area in banjo kazooie, a door that I hadn’t found that would lead somewhere new. It being above the waterfall of spiral mountain is so cool! Only thing cooler would be if this was still part of regular banjo kazooie, maybe some extra connecting paths between the lair, maybe in that weird area with the rising water, that room always felt like there was more to it.
I’m surprised that no one has thought to try and make Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty’s Revenge with this engine and the current tool. It’s pretty much a no brainer
I thought about it before finishing Jiggies of Time develop, but there is already a guy working on that project

This project caught my attention from the start as I always had fantasies of exploring more areas in Gruntilda's Lair. While some parts of the hack could use more polish, the idea and level design are otherwise solid! I'm glad you told me the project is not cancelled! If you ask me, I think the two of you should team up on it!

This hack needs to be completed. When I saw this years ago, I was anticipating more would have been done.
And hey-if Davey is working a job, then I understand. Priorities are paramount in the grand scheme of things. It can’t be helped; but it would be nice to see Mark Kurko carry the reins-as long as Davey is cool with it, of course!

This feels good. I like it. I would play this. I haven't touched a banjo game in probably ten years.
Accessing previously inaccessible areas that only the mind could imagine is every BK fan's dream. I absolutely LOVE this fan made mod cause it expands on an already fan favorite and adds so much more to it!

I think the people who make hacks like this understand Banjo-Kazooie better than some of the folks who made Banjo-Tooie. No shade on Tooie, as it's a great game, but the utilization of the Notes placements and Mumbo Tokens really makes the player look around for stuff in a way that drives you to explore. One of the complaints I had about Tooie was condensing the Notes into Note Nests of 5 and 20 while having larger worlds. Bigger worlds with less stuff in them? It makes no sense. But this hack spaced out Notes that made you need to visit every place this world had to offer, just so you didn't miss anything. The platforming looked solid, no bullcrap jumps or leaps of faith, you can navigate and things are noticeable enough that you never feel stumped.

It's interesting. After finishing B-K I just wanted more of that. Same with other games like DKR. In Banjo's case I think the surrealism & magic was amplified by keeping the entire game within the lair. The castle in M64 had a similar effect. You'd just go deeper and deeper into the rabbit hole. You'd enter Grunty's head, then a treasure chest, then a sandcastle, etc. Or in the case of MMM, a big house inside of a tiny house inside of a head inside of a head. I don't think they thought too deeply about this stuff but I think it had some effect in one way or another.
The music seems to be missing something. I can't place it, but it's definitely noticeable. I know following a legend like kirkhope is a huge task, though. I love these games, I just wish they featured new moves and mechanics instead of copy and pasting what we already have. I'm sure there's a logical reason for it, probably a lot of work, but I can dream. Cool mod though.
I agree so far. I’m listening to harvest hills music and it just sounds all over the place, it doesn’t stick with you. It almost reminds me of the inside of Gnawtys home from click clock wood but just not as memorable.
I've always wanted to explore the lair after the first game. Hope to see this complete one day.

Harvest Hill reminds me a lot like Conker's bad fur day.
There sure are a lot of mods for Banjo-Kazooie, but I don't remember seeing any for its sequel, Banjo-Tooie. I wonder why.

That still blow's my mind Tooie is untouched, wasn't it one of the hardest games to emulate back in the day for some reason? I heard about it awhile back that Rare kept it super protected for some reason like the Rom was almost impossible to find?@@Kurko_Games

Are the missing Jiggies in the paintings hardcoded? Or there isn't a way yet to properly display them (leading to the use of the Jiggy sign) 🤔

Can you please tell me is this intended to be like a fan made sequel to Banjo-Kazooie? Or just Banjo Kazooie 1 but bigger and better? Or is it simply just random mod levels to play? I’m really curious about what this is exactly.
The trailer you saw on Twitter was not about this project, was about Nostalgia 64. Nostalgia 64 is a full mod where you can visit several worlds from another n64 games. About Hidden Lair, this project is not mine. Check more info in description

I think the demo is mostly good enough, save some camera shenanigans.
Also that speedup at 36:00 was very revealing on the final boss battle from the original game! 😂

Well he didn't die until tooie and was revived at the end so it's either before tooie or after tooie

No, you can download the rom and play it in a real N64 using an Everdrive

Great hack, but I feel like the level was a little too big. There was too much space in between everything. Maybe if they could import the warp pads from tooie, it would be great.
Everything looks great, but that harvest hills bgm is kind of atrocious, to be blunt.
Well, if anything, at least you're direct with the honesty.
I recently played that one and was very sad to see it end so fast after that 1st awesome level!
