Police and police staff private cars have have spotted with illegal number plates in police car parks, police officer's private cars have been spotted with expired MOTs or insurance and they can be checked free of charge on the DVLA computer. These are reasons you may wish to film number plates, the data on a number plate belongs to the DVLA and they are therefore public domain. Kent Police cars do not have MOT's, used cars are sold off at auction and they are bought by dealers who clock the cars by up to 100,000 miles then MOT them and pass them off as genuine average mileage cars. Kent Police know this is happening, MOTing their used cars before they sell them would end it, but they'd raise less at auction.
