They plan on keeping the assets for it and they haven’t figured out exactly what to do with it- So who knows… Maybe they’ll one day find a place for it and create a mission specifically for it. Or modify it to become a space port hotel. Lots of possibilities to still have it play a role in game. Maybe even as a dynamic event that gets spawn there for players to take back control of the space port.
I remember the little lockers at all the airlocks that you used to switch between clothes and EVA suit. With the removal of Port Olisar, it really does feel like the end of an Era. Here's hoping they do it justice with their future plans!
Personally, I loved PO because getting your landing pad, wasn't an elevator away from other players, it was walking boardwalks alongside other players, seeing their ships, and yours, next to each other, and the feel of walking across through space to your pad. It feels like you REALLY are stepping out into the 'verse
Exactly, every station need a free pad area like gh or olisar. It’s just more «human », more social, more wow. I don’t have the word but I’m disappointed by the replacement. It’s just a rest stop station ….
Reading various comments feels like the devs missed this exact aspect why players love Olisar. I don't hang around the Spectrum and may be they did ask the community, but it feels like making a thread asking people to share what they love about PO would give such a great feedback prior to the development of a new station.
Honestly Port Olisar is the ONLY station where I feel like Im part of a universe when I go to pick up my ship. Having to go through the pressure lock and then walking to your pad, walking past other ships, is something magical. Getting into an elevator to get to a non-descript hanger to get to your ship isn't nearly as satisfying. I'd rather Port Seraphim be redone with open style pads like Port Olisar.
CIG, please make Port Olisar some sort of historic landmark or tourist attraction. Move it to a new location near Crusader and let it be a backup station that we can visit.
We knew everyone loved seamlessly walking from hab to landing pad, so we shoved a bunch of elevators in between there to make sure it doesn't feel too special. Appreciate it guys!
Olisar is great for the purpose that it serves, but it is true the game is changing and growing bigger. The current Olisar is great because it is more compact and has everything centralized. Seraphim is meant to be big brother, in form, but the fact is they would need to make a completely remodel the station structure to accommodate for all the additions. Even then the more they add, the longer the traversal is. I personally don’t want to spend 6 minutes a venture just walking in between my objective and my landing pad.
@@jacksonbarkerthebluehairedfox What gameplay are they bringing Seraphim up to speed with by adding a bunch of elevators between the spawn and the ship dock? Walking gameplay? Respawning gameplay? Elevator music DJ gameplay?
Several people have made the same comment. Please include some landing pads! Standing on the pads looking up at Crusader is amazing and you don't get the same feeling looking out a window in the station. You actually feel exposed and miniscule. It's one of the few places in SC I've really felt the immensity of my surroundings.
FYI, most of the stations in SC have landing pads. They're just spread out around the station and don't have the communal feel that PO had. I think there are only two stations that don't have landing pads. Just fly to a station, look for them and land on them. If I'm just stopping at a station to refuel/rearm or get food, I just use a pad and I never call the station.
@@sundog_dd5278 They do, but it is not the same at all. Mainly because you can't launch from one via ASOP. You can only land and relaunch, but you can't start out that way unfortunately. I loved walking out onto a zero-atmo platform and seeing a huge planetary body looming out in space in front of me. Miss that feeling at all the other stations, and was what I LOVED about PO.
Well said. I agree wholeheartedly about the landing pads it was actually my first draw to the game. The sense of scale, the audio, the overwhelmingly gorgeous view of Crusader. It's a powerful wave of feeling so tiny in such a large universe, it's beautiful and yes looking through a window is not the same and neither is moving from interior to interior.
It's so bizarre hearing Todd Pappy acknowledge that the reason we love PO is how quick it is to get in and out, but then they take out all the pads? No. That's not the way. More pads. A lot more pads please.
Hangars do take care of the issue of pad ramming though. I agree PO had what Todd described plus the beautiful vista. But let’s wait for Seraphim and see if maybe it does have some perks over the other Ports like PO did
Yes but for future proofing this is needed, those landing hangers will be instanced, think of hundreds of players landing at the station. PO wouldnt work.
Just another station where you will feel teleported from one edge to the other with 0 feeling of really being there, whey really missed what was special about Port Olisar, RIP the only immersive station we had left.
Imagine that feeling... For new players when the elevator doors open, and they run to their ship - enclosed in a metal hangar. Eventually figuring out how to call for takeoff, the hangar doors open - evoking a feeling of anxiety and stress, as the new players attempts to balance throttle and flight controls to escape the hangar and dodge floating turret pylons. Wow! What an immersive first flight! Compare that to those of us who walked out to open space from Olisars' loving arms into a wonderous open-world space to take our first flight. There were no ceilings or walls to dodge. It was just us, Crusader and our ship, balanced on Olisar's back in open space.
:( I'm going to miss the clustered landing pads of PO, it always felt so communal and grounded seeing peoples' ships come in, as well as landing right outside of the window, it's the only station that REALLY feels like a rest stop. I'll never forget all the times I was awestruck standing on a landing pad staring up at Crusader while other players land around me
Amen to that. As a newbie seeing all these cool and crazy ships out there, wandering around them while their owner eyed me suspiciously. That was the core experience of Star Citizen for quite a while and I will miss it. I feel like Seraphim station will just be called ‘Not Port Olisar’ by many of us.
Honestly my favorite thing about PO was not having the transit loop feature. Being able to go straight inside and not have to worry about the elevators. And landing, I hate landing larger ships [my carrack] in hangers because the hangers it puts you in ,i feel, are way to small for the ship. With landing pads it is t as bad. O well it won't change anything just needed to vent..
I agree, the best part of PO was not having to ride an elevator. The devs even acknowledged that as a favored feature before being like 'anyway, here's a station with a transit system"
pads were replaced by hangars in space stations to avoid pad ramming. Retaliator / MSR / Connie sized ships can still land on the 2 (large) external pads tho
@@mur4s4m3 Also the hangars have other benefits like allowing cargo loading and making ship spawning and despawning less jarring since it can all be done unseen.
I like that even CIG have the insight to realise players enjoyed Olisar so much BECAUSE it didn't waste our time with multiple elevators and hoop-jumping. Combined with being able to leave the airlock and just take in the vastness of space with your ship in the foreground while others lifted off around you.
As good as this was the open pads and ulta compact nature was a problem in of itself. As they have described there just isn't room to add any new things if the station is too small to house it. Open pads always invited greifers that would ram the ships on the pad, and it causes performance concerns when it comes to having increasingly complex scenes being active and visible to players. I feel stations have the right time for a transit loop. All the shops are in one place, the food is right down the ship lane, its easy and fast to get around. Planets is where the transport loop gets stretched and it is why I never put my respawn down there. The transport loop is nice when you aren't pressured by time, but often when you die you want to re-gear and jump back as fast as possible and planets do not allow for it. For example I may want to call the ship's insurance and re-gear in the meantime, but on a planet the gear and ship pads could be 3 minutes worth of transport away. so by the time I get to the gear shop, I now know most ships will be done cooking in the hangar and I will start to feel I am wasting time.
But theres also that part where players complained about people sneaking onto a ship because the pad are open, and anyone can just walk in. And that they NEED hangars to protect all their stuff, because no one can arsed to check behind them while sprinting everywhere.
I've always thought they should 'destroy' it and then stash the wreck somewhere to be found. Maybe an investigation mission there like that old one... you know the one...
Port olisar was different than all the other space stations and people loved how easy it was to navigate. So we changed that and made it a reskin of the all the other space stations which are all nearly identical
The players love Port Ollisar because it's get in get out, no waiting for gameplay. It's new replacement is the biggest most complicated station we've made yet! Thanks.
I love how Todd right off the bat talks about how we all love PO for how simple and easy it is to get in and out with no systems to delay us and then they go on to show a new station with hangars and elevators. Two things we all hate and tend to be super bugged. Way to go CIG.👍
Yup. Here’s something MANY times bigger that we can delay you with. All stations should be like PO, but we’ve got a copy paste elevator fest like everything else. But look, spinny circles around it because PO… 🤷
@@arenomusic No, they are not insulting you. They are mocking you and seeing how many people will defend their decision. They are gauging just how much they can spit in the mouths of the people who give them money.
@@arenomusic They have been for a long time. Some of the videos Jared and CIG have put out have been blatant mockery of backers. This is one of the most unprofessional and fraudulent companies in existence, and they don't even try to hide it anymore. How these people aren't in prison at this point is beyond me.
Build stations like Port Olisar. The best part is the design of being able to walk around platforms, it feels free, it’s a haven. A lot of the new stations all feel restrictive or locked in, I’ll really miss Port Olisar, it’s what made me love the verse.
Dang, I got a heavy feeling in my heart knowing Olisar is moving on. Been backing since 2014 and Olisar has always been my main port. So many memories. First spawn in, first respawn, the starting point to head to the first planet. The place where I made my first million credits, the list goes on. I’m glad that they’re trying to honor its legacy in their new design. Just one request CIG, Please leave the original Olisar somewhere in the Stanton system where those of us who remember can make a pilgrimage to it and hear the music play from that wonderful central room.
I'd like it to fly around Stanton on some elliptical weird orbit, perhaps damaged a little with debris flying around (kind of like a comet). No jump point, but you should be able to catch it's gravity pull when it flies near one of the planets. Basically we would have to wait for it to make the trip around Stanton, and fly in manually to land. And then it takes you on a trip around the system :D
Everything was physical. Stairs and doors. No Elevators. Give us an alternative to the janky elevators! Let us walk. Give us Airlocks near the terminals so we can just float out and jump in a friends ship. Olisar is a monument to what was, and what will be. Long Live Olisar!
I really freakin hope that current station design is dictated by current playability and that the ones we'll get when most of the game is working will go back to that feel, why not taking an elevator that actually goes in a possible direction, then walking around the station ring (why do they still exist if we can generate gravity off of kitchen appliances in this game?) Then getting to a pad cluster and seeing a bunch of ships on your way to yours, port olisar is still king in terms of immersion and coolness imo
I agree. I'm not keen on all the transit and elevators and stuff that adds a time sink to separate players. Find another way without moving use with goofy jank-vators and trams.
Elevators are one of the key technologies in SC, it allows for the capital ships and massive docks and bunkers. They need to test that tech to get it right, the only way they can do that testing is...?

Please please please do some external landing pads. As a matter of fact, more external landing pads for all space stations if possible. I loved PO for that design.
@@tim_nextvolleyball I feel like they totally could add some small, drive-thru type of stations around some planets. No fancy services, just refuel, rearm and maybe ammo for guns and stuff. I think old PO could very feasibly be repurposed to this.
I remember landing there for the first time and looking out of the window and seeing my ship with a crusader sunset behind it. I’m gonna miss walking outside and looking up at the gas giant crusader and feeling that vertigo
I'd love to see PO relocated to somewhere else in Crusader's orbit as a museum to what we use to have. It's something that Elite Dangerous did with historical landmarks that are also used as destinations for tourist/passenger gameplay.
@@maximiliankoch2593as he said on nearly every space station. There are two or four landing pads for repairing and refuelling and without to ask for landing permission. Just land ✌️
While I definitely understand the logic behind the decision to replace it, and Seraphim does look cool, it kind of feels like a little bit of uniqueness and asymmetry for the system as a whole will be lost (even if they bring PO back as a derelict or whatever). PO is sort of like Grim Hex in that it has a personality, and you know when you show up it's going to be a different feel to the other ports. This isn't a gripe, but it does raise the question in my mind of whether the experience across the system really needs to be uniform. I guess we'll see.
@@maximiliankoch2593 Bajiji point- on the arm, but right next to the big ring Port Trestler- One of the three arms below the spinning ring. Look for it's different sillouette. I dont know the L-stations well enough to describe the pad locations, but once you know how to find the ones above, you can usually sus them out on the L stations.
You should do more stuff without elevators, they are a bit annoying and they take off the sense off “interiors actually interior to buildings” Same with hangars, pads are more cinematic and fun
Have open pads, but with hanger space below the pads under a forcefield that pulls in/out ships when summoned/stowed so ships don't just pop in/out of existence.
Elevators divide up the object container zones which will make it easier for server meshing. They are a necessary evil to allow more players per shard by reducing the portions of the universe each dedicated game server has to keep in memory.
o7 Port Olisar. You were the best station in the verse. Hopefully the new station will have landing pads where we can get that feeling of being tiny in a huge universe. I will also miss walking through the corridors and air locks to get to my ship. It made you feel like you're really going into space.
Right? "New Olisar" without trains/lifts would've been great. Just remake it, with a connected hallway between struts - and include a clinic. Even a hallway to hangars would've been great if they wanted to extend it longer than Oli was. Cargo deck could've been a new spire extending off the main station
@@AlphaCitizenThey got lazy and just did a mix of existing assets from other stations. Olisar 2 would’ve required some actual thought process and new assets.
A PO update sure could be nice. There are construction areas inside each strut that could easily have elevators added. The center segments of the station itself are huge. You could fit a new larger medical clinic in one, and a Cousin Crows in the other. They could have put the cargo segment at one end of the station and the security docking section at the other. Taking the center ring, doubling it so we have 4 total with a small segment in between that has two arms branching out to a few hanger sections with docking ports on the end is not a big stretch either. Just a better idea, in my opinion. If they give us back Olisar in Nyx, I would really be happy. While we're at it, please bring back Tessa and the ICC. Her mission chain is a great way to learn the game. Having them in a remote area of Nyx with one of the OG automated refuel stations would be so good!
No no no no no no no you leave the landing pads on PO alone! I loves open pads because we can actually see ships taking off and landing. It feels more alive than just closed hangers. hanger & pads can coexist. A cool middle point is GrimHex. It has hangers. But the old pads are still open for landing & have airlocks for faster entry/exit and community gathering.
@@rooster1012 hanger & pads can coexist. A cool middle point is GrimHex. It has hangers. But the old pads are still open for landing & have airlocks for faster entry/exit and community gathering.
The moment you step out on PO and look up, realize, that this ginormous planet is the gas giant Crusader, this is jawdropping, because it is only on foot where you really grasp the size... i hope this feeling doesnt subside with the new station, one last o7 Port Olisar, farewell, it has been an honour.
Thank you for removing yet another amazing location leaving us with endless elevators, lag, and public transportation. Riding on a metro is so much fun! Almost as fun as watching paint dry.
Thank you for yet another mindless copypaste based on your feelings Feel free to explain how anyone uses a station with a hundred players and 5 landing pads, seeing as you're such a genius
It's a shame that Todd and the team were well aware of what current players like about Port Olisar but they didn't bother to incorporate those aspects into the new station. They had an opportunity to come up with a new station design without irritating elevators and with external landing pads so players could get in easier and watch others land and take off. The interior layout is mentioned and shown here to be massive and sprawling unlike the smaller and more efficient layout of Oli. It's not a good thing that CIG takes away things that are unique and forces us all to to spend ages dealing with buggy elevators and tediously large space stations. They should listen to the community and have more simplified stations like Olisar even if they don't have all the functionality of the new stations. I'm going to miss the days of logging onto SC and not having to deal with a single elevator during my play session.
While i agree and like PO for its simplicity here’s another question: how can you retain PO’s design while also getting it to support every gameloop that the planetary stations need to support? The answer to that question is why Seraphim exists I think the simple PO-like stations would be good as Lagrange point stations where its expected for them to be more limited- just habs, medical and a simple weapons/armor store. But the planetary stations need to be able to support all the gameloops so its expected for them to be bigger and more annoying. I think that would be a good compromise
All stations still have pads, PO just has hangars in addition to them. Keeping old one-off designs like this will just add more technical debt that requires extra work, instead of all stations being on similar design footing and capability. PO even ends up with it's own station-specific bugs and quirks from time to time because it's not on par tech-wise with other stations. I'll take one station gaining the god-awful pain of an elevator button in exchange for all the improvements that come with the improved design, and the marginally reduced dev load that can be put towards better things.
I couldn´t agree more. The newer space stations so far are for me without any soul. Just huge areas, where you get lost and cannot see others landing and starting, which would give so much atmosphere. And elevators destroy the immersion every time, as they are just respawn points and you lose your orientation. As Morphologis once said so nicely - round stations with square rooms in it doesn´t fit well from a design language point of view. I understand the need for stations to be future proof for alle the gameplay to happen, but why not keeping at least some of the great features of PO? PO had for example open landing pads all over the place, where you could visit each other by EVA. And as said also by Todd, it was indeed the quickest getting in and out in the whole game, respecting the time of the player. But unfortunately this was obviously forgotten when creating Seraphim. What a shame...(yeah sure - "we will bring back PO somewhere in the future" - I wouldn´t hold my breath)...I am very sad about losing PO...
Trams along a central spine, with hangars and docking ports, would be more realistic, but imagine, once there's a single server per region, having all those players trying to get to their hangars.
in some ways , i understand why they want to make port olisar looking like the other planetary stations, but this new one kinda lost that feeling of getting inside our ships without elevators, without transition. I really prefere PO for that simple way that it has in its use. So i kinda prefer PO to this new station. The only thing that this one is cool about is the fact that PO doesnt have an hospital. But i do not really like the fact that they want to make PO in the same way as the new stations even if they are more recent, they are a lot more complexe. I really prefer PO for its simple estetic and uses
I think you guys should leave 2 stations around the huge Orison, one the old school PO and Seraphim, would be cool, visit PO for quick things and stay at Seraphim for med etc....
Honestly make PO into a Police Station with no Habs and only FPS gear. You could go there to get some gear, drop off a perp and peace out on another adventure.
@@Uncanny_Mountain basically, a place with no hangars, PO's landing pad design where you are encouraged to get in and out quickly. Maybe a couple Pharmacy terminals, a food/drink shop and a low tier armor and weapon vendor, just enough to refit/refuel and bug out.
An upgrade to PO would be nice, but wven the original is fine with me. There are construction areas inside each strut that could easily have elevators added. The center segments of the station itself are huge. You could fit a new larger medical clinic in one, and a Cousin Crows in the other. sad day. seraphim needs pads. nothing like that moment when olisar came into the game and we walked out onto our pad to see our ship for the first time (after turning round 3 times to find the right door, and forgetting to use the locker to change and dying to lack of oxygen). a glorious 300i for me, prior to the embloatening.
Whatever happens, I hope they keep legacy PO in some form or fashion. For those of us who have been a part of this journey since kickstarter, it will always have a special place in our memories. When we first spawned at PO, it made the vision that is Star Citizen real.
@@merlinfanboy556ikr I was so disappointed when they showed the interior and most of it looked exactly like tressler... they really need to move away from their modular kitbash design philosophy, at least for the general layout of a space station.
I don't mind the modules per say but they needed to do something unique with the new station with maybe more pads close to the central module which would be visible from the big windows. They could also instead of having separate floors have everything along one central walkway with the hangar module being the only one that needed an elevator.
It is true that the existence of open pads on space left the player totally dreamy and admiring.... On the contrary, the hangars make lose all the poetry of the moment. Port Olisar, I miss you already ! Much nostalgia will emerge from this change with the arrival of Seraphim Station....
Gutted that seraphim will be exactly the same as all of the other stations and the landing pads will be replaced by yet more squeeze your ship into this tiny hole landing bays :(. Olisar is charming. I love that there are no damnable and often broken elevators or trams. Land, get in, get out. When it first came out we were amazed! It felt large and advanced. I feel that medical and cargo could either be added (appended?) or done without. After all, Orison is right there, and also a space station in its' way. If they replace Olisar with a cookie cutter Everus clone, I will be sad. My two cents.
heck, take out the B and D arms, add a transit line down the spine, replace a shop with a medical center in the A and C arms, replace the entire B arm with a shopping center, and replace the entire D arm with a cargo deck and security dock.

Honestly as much as I love the design of the new station, What I loved about Olisar was (as you mentioned) being able to quickly get in and out of the station. There was no hassle with elevators, no hassle of having to run quite far to the terminals to call out your ship. You had everything you needed so close together that I actually to this day, prefer to go to Olisar than anywhere else if I need something quick. @@Uncanny_Mountain The elevators will literally not save you! If you think about this argument for a couple seconds youll realize that it doesnt make any sense whatsoever.
So you took the "easy get in, get out" that we liked about Port Olisar and threw it away and the open landing pads, the one thing that made the station look alive since we could see the ships of others? I dunno, man.
The first experience I had with PO was the first experience others had with me.. I was helpless. Asked in chat how to get my aurora out, and people were extremely helpfull. Explaining both where to go, what to look for and how to get into my seat and start up the ship.. What they didn't explain was how the throttle worked, how the ship apparently burst into action the second you start it up, how NOT to scroll up to the max just before take off... They were however extremely understanding as I torpedoed into the ship standing in front of my aurora, losing what little control I had in the process, only for me to try and regain control and ram face first into a Cuttie black trying desperately to take off and avoid the inevitable collision.. I can't recall how many ships were rendered temporarily immobile or how many unfortunate souls were lost that day... All I can say to whoever were on the receiving end of my legendary noobiness - I'm sorry. But thank you SO much for your understanding. Not one person that day called me a padrammer, or made any insulting remarks in chat. I was left free to waddle in my shame and the hornet that was struck first even took me out on the Elaine Ward investigation mission. Port Ollisar is not just a spacestation to some of us - it's a home we outgrew but still remember very fondly.
Port Olisar is an old friend and sometimes a foe. It will be missed. Especially the nice view of and direct access to the landing pads, it gave me the feeling of a certain connectedness that the other stations miss.
No other experience like going into the air lock for the first time at PO and stepping into the verse. Then falling lifelessly onto the floor with no helmet. Good times they were…. She will be missed.
Miss the landing pads and being able to call your ship to a landing pad, really hope CIG give us options to call a ship to the hanger or a pad. The walk out seeing your ship on a pad with space in the back ground was the most immersive experience and its being lost or forgotten :(
Decent job on the new station, finally adding more possibilities to it! ---> BUT: 1. Please leave/add at least few landing pads. They were awesome, we will all miss them. 2. Regarding the fate of the good old Port Olisar: please do not let it burn in the atmosphere. Instead make it to continue orbit Orison and make it abandoned, like a Gundo Hub. Potential location for new mission, like what happend and why the station was abandoned.
The pads. The pads and everything accessible without an elevator is what players love about PO. What are you guys doing ? Just do a PO in the form of a cross, bounty stuff and hospital on the center, 4 wings with pads and shops. Need more space ? Just do a twin station with 2 crosses. Gosh, is this hard to picture ?
I understand why it needs to be replaced, but man I love PO because the pop-in and out nature of that station is such a wonderful break from the monotony of elevators that have taken over every landing zone and station. Not only was it more convenient, but walking out onto the pad and seeing all these other ships - it made me feel way more immersed than these isolated hangars ever could. Now I'll just feel alone as I approach yet another identityless station. Well, here's to you, Ollie. I'm going to miss you. And I'm going to miss watching traffic come and go from the lounge area.
Couldn't agree more. PO was the only landing zone that really felt unique (Grim Hex is different visually but in terms it being a system of elevators that interrupt gameplay, it's exactly the same as the others) and that's exactly why it is so loved by the player-base. When you're at PO it actually feels like you're in a dynamic universe with other people. The hangars and elevators system makes SC feel like a single player game to me. Pad ramming is an issue but the people who do it will have no problem with ramming hangars as well which already happens. A better solution would be to have a region around the stations, similar to no-fly zones, where there's a speed limit (which is 100% what would be done in a real life equivalent), exceeding the speed limit triggers a tractor beam or remote control override from the station which moves you back out of the region. That way, the players don't have to miss out on a positive gameplay experience and also don't have to deal with pad ramming
More and more I think the old po should be shifted to the jump point as a last station of call before pyro, it just makes sense and solidifies it for a special point in our hearts and minds
I feel like you guys have failed to see what people like about Port Olisar. PO is great because unlike any and all other stations, you can go inside, grab your stuff, and get out without needing to waste time in elevators. It is the "convenience store" station of the verse. There is also something to be said about the way the landing pads work at PO that many in the community love. Sure it is open to people attacking your ship on takeoff, or just doing dumb things like ship ramming, but otherwise seeing a bunch of people on the landing pads coming and going made the station feel a ton more alive and bustling than any of the hangar based stations do. I really wish every station had a better blend of both. There should be a hangar and storage option AND a convenience landing bay for quick in and out service at EVERY station in the game. This means NO ELEVATOR between the "free to land" landing pads and a bunch of open stores. Quick, run in, grab what you want, run out back to your ship, fly off. Hangars are a great OPTION, but there still needs to be the quicker option for those who wish not to play Elevator Citizen.
Hats off to the team who makes all the funny clips at the end. I love all the little nods to some of SC's "features". Loving your work! Also RIP PO. You will be missed!
The thing that is BEST about Olisar is the lack of a "transit loop". Elevators are the most feared opponent in this game atm. Not to mention after each patch, we get the lovely "leave through open hangar doors, ship blows up" bug. Olisar's pads actually allow us to work around game play breaking bugs. If you're going to remove it, please put in pads that can spawn ships on the replacement.
New hotness doesn't mean better, sometimes all you need is a place to make a quick stop for Lunch, Gas and Tolls. Oh as a side note, add access points for people that clip through the station and need to enter the various stations.
Guys, it's understandable you felt the need to update Olisar, but with Seraphim you took the one thing away that made Olisar special and so very social in the first place, the open interconnected landing pads. It looks to be yet another rest stop with sectioned off hangars and dim lighting where everyone sprints past each other and nobody has an opportunity to look at other people's ships anymore.
Nothing ever gets BETTER with this game. All of the reasons they gave for building Seraphin and replacing PO are EXACTLY the reasons we loved it and hate most of your other station locations. 'Gameplay loops' that involve annoying traversal of elevators that don't work half the time, disconnected and far apart sections of the station just to complete a simple task. Complete time wasters that you all consider immersive gameplay are anything but. Limited time to game means I never load it up anymore. Who wants to take 10-15 minutes of 'commute to work' gameplay loops in New Babbage, A18, or other major city before you can even get to your ship and get started.
Devs: "We tried to honor the Sanctity of the Original Port O where people loved it because of the short time to get to your ship and the open pads. The mother of the first PU pilots" Also Devs: "So we made another huge hulking station with a ton of elevators, hangars and a multitude of spaces so you can spend 30 minutes trying to reach your ship, provided the elevators work."
Is the layout going to be a complete clustercuss like the rest of the space stations? Olissar was one of the only stations that had a sense of logic to it's layout.
Olisar has always felt much better than any of the generic stations, walking out of the airlock to the landing pads. getting rid of that is removing one of the only nice stations.
This episode makes me sad. Nowhere will exist that you can avoid lifts and trains. P.O. has been my home for 8 1/2 years. And they didn't even name this new version "New Olisar" SMH Edit: I know these guys tried, but I'm guessing they were told to use hangars and lifts for scalability. It's a pretty station, yes. They did well. We really want a station to get in and out quickly, with LOTS of open pads. We want a longer PO with a clinic and cargo deck. PO has been the perfect place for our friends who just downloaded the game to take their first flight... without trying to avoid the metal hangar enclosure. We fly then up from Orison and let them soak in that experience of scale, and how connected they'll be with their ship, waiting on that pad, the last vestibule of safety in the vastness of space. Seeing others land near them and run inside for supplies as they start out on their first flight, without the stress of destroying their ship on takeoff, like in hangars
You can't do away with Port O, it is powerfully nostalgic and one of my personally favorite places so far. Seems counter-productive to kill a place everyone loves. #SavePortOlisar!
im gonna miss landing my ship next to everyone elses, walking along the pads, cycling the airlock, and going inside to the one station that has a different interior from all the others
I really hope they do something like this.. maybe what they put at the end there isn't ridiculous.. maybe it somehow fell down into crusader.. way down in there somewhere and they can use it for an event sometime lol.
I like the part in this ISC where they start by acknowledging all the things players like about Port Olisar and then spend the rest of the episode explaining how they're replacing Port Olisar with a station that has ABSOLUTELY NONE OF THOSE THINGS.
"We understand everyone absolutely loved the get in and out style of Port Olisar and not having to extend their time there with transit." *Immediate proceeds to make Seraphim the exact same station as everywhere else with transit and bullshit*
It's a limit with the reclaimer and not the space stations, sadly. Gonna have to wait 2 years on the rework before we can take out our munching behemoths in space :(
Port Olisar is what taught me, through brute force, to ALWAYS CHECK IF MY HELMET IS ON. Thank you, PO. You will be missed.
They plan on keeping the assets for it and they haven’t figured out exactly what to do with it-
So who knows…
Maybe they’ll one day find a place for it and create a mission specifically for it.
It just needs mirrored doors.
They REALLY need to make an event "one time only" and everyone all meets in ships as they crash it into the depths of orison!
It taught me not to fly between rings.
Personally, I loved PO because getting your landing pad, wasn't an elevator away from other players, it was walking boardwalks alongside other players, seeing their ships, and yours, next to each other, and the feel of walking across through space to your pad. It feels like you REALLY are stepping out into the 'verse
THIS
This! I love seeing all those ships parked around Olisar. It looked so cool seeing some of the different ships and liveries on the pads.
Exactly, every station need a free pad area like gh or olisar. It’s just more «human », more social, more wow. I don’t have the word but I’m disappointed by the replacement. It’s just a rest stop station ….
Yeah exactly. The first time I played the experience of just walking out to the pads and seeing other ppls ships really impressed me
Reading various comments feels like the devs missed this exact aspect why players love Olisar.
It was the only station set up that way :(
Also impossible when there are 1000 players all trying to use the station
yeah it feel like a Service station on earth where everyone stops and rest, eat. Goodbye old friend
Hangars suck. If there’s no pads it’s going to be another cookie cut POS like the stations
hear hear 😑
CIG, please make Port Olisar some sort of historic landmark or tourist attraction. Move it to a new location near Crusader and let it be a backup station that we can visit.
We knew everyone loved seamlessly walking from hab to landing pad, so we shoved a bunch of elevators in between there to make sure it doesn't feel too special. Appreciate it guys!
They literally explained why they're doin' it. To bring the station up to speed with the gameplay they want to add / already exists.
@@jacksonbarkerthebluehairedfox And it sucks.
@@idofx8722 To be fair I really do like the look of the new Seraphim Station. Though I do agree with the increased transit times being a problem.
But let’s wait for Seraphim and see if maybe it does have some perks over the other Ports like PO did
Slightly disappointed that Seraphim doesn't have the open landing pads like PO. Now it's just like every other space station essentially.
Agreed, the main reason I love PO is just how quickly I could get on and off my ships and not have to worry about elevator fuckery
Yea something that was visually different is now exactly the same
We need more Grim Hexes
Yes but for future proofing this is needed, those landing hangers will be instanced, think of hundreds of players landing at the station.
PO wouldnt work.
I think I saw a couple pads like the others have.
"People like Olisar because its 'get in get out', no transit loops..... so we changed that"
Of course they did. They have to change things for the better or more likely, for worse rather than add new content.
Wait until they do it to ground stations too.
Its upsetting that they did-away with the unique globe ASOP room
Thank you!!!!!! Yes! Wtf
Yeah, you like it and having fun? Unnecessary change.
I liked Port Olisar because there were no elevators since they seem to break so easily.
Agreed lol
imagine we got a maze of maintenance tunnels *_*
Port Olisar sounds like it would make for a perfect welcome station at the Stanton / Pyro jump point.
this would be very cool, strip off ship spawn capebility and landing clearance, just a truck stop before heading off or entering Stanton.
Agreed
Best idea yet
I really hope they listen to this and actually implement it.
This idea is awesome, they should strongly consider it.
Not to forget watching ships take off and land through the station windows
@@Dunkopf Yes, silently judging peoples poor landings is(was) always fun
I'm kinda hoping the use the model to make like a gas station some place like a space buckeys
This new one is so uninspired. It’s just a blend of existing assets, same lobbies, same assets. Can we at least tell them we don’t like it?
This. The best part about PO was always the pads. Bring back the pads!
word... nothing else like chilling out on your pad, watching the traffic. Oh well.
They're removing 1 landing pad and adding 1 hangar every time someone writes it "hanger"
I really HATE the transit loops.
I like that even CIG have the insight to realise players enjoyed Olisar so much BECAUSE it didn't waste our time with multiple elevators and hoop-jumping. Combined with being able to leave the airlock and just take in the vastness of space with your ship in the foreground while others lifted off around you.
Enough insight to remove all that completely and give us elevators and hangars rather than outdoor landing pads and walkways
Performance. Smoke and Mirrors. ..or here. Hangars and Elevators..
Might be a necessity and the real reason PO have to leave. My guess.
@@belzasar3419 PO has some of the best performance anywhere on a server.
But theres also that part where players complained about people sneaking onto a ship because the pad are open, and anyone can just walk in. And that they NEED hangars to protect all their stuff, because no one can arsed to check behind them while sprinting everywhere.
Never thought that a spacestation could make me sad. Hope Port Olisar will live on somewhere else!
it sounds like that's what they plan. hopefully they do that. I think many will appreciate that.
Would love having the old Port Olisar be an Arena Commander map, complete with Crusader behind it. A fitting monument to an old friend.
Turning it into a star marine fps map would be cool too.
write it into a time travel gameplay loop.
I've always thought they should 'destroy' it and then stash the wreck somewhere to be found. Maybe an investigation mission there like that old one... you know the one...
I completely concur!
would also be great for star marine
Port olisar was different than all the other space stations and people loved how easy it was to navigate. So we changed that and made it a reskin of the all the other space stations which are all nearly identical
😂😂
they might be near identical but don't you love to memorize each stations internal layout for no other reason than pretending they're different?
@@the_babbleboom this!
Yes, Olisar was small and simple and people loved it, so they made it the biggest most complicated one.

I love how Todd right off the bat talks about how we all love PO for how simple and easy it is to get in and out with no systems to delay us and then they go on to show a new station with hangars and elevators. Two things we all hate and tend to be super bugged. Way to go CIG.👍
Yeah, that part seemed like a joke to me. Are they insulting us?

THIS!
Remember when PO was all we had!?!
PLEASE!!
First time trying to fly through the rings and blowing up... watching so many others do the same thing. Its like a SC right of passage. Good times. 😊

While I definitely understand the logic behind the decision to replace it, and Seraphim does look cool, it kind of feels like a little bit of uniqueness and asymmetry for the system as a whole will be lost (even if they bring PO back as a derelict or whatever). PO is sort of like Grim Hex in that it has a personality, and you know when you show up it's going to be a different feel to the other ports.
This isn't a gripe, but it does raise the question in my mind of whether the experience across the system really needs to be uniform. I guess we'll see.

I dont know the L-stations well enough to describe the pad locations, but once you know how to find the ones above, you can usually sus them out on the L stations.
You should do more stuff without elevators, they are a bit annoying and they take off the sense off “interiors actually interior to buildings”
Same with hangars, pads are more cinematic and fun
I think they should have windowed elevator shafts kind of like riding a tram

Not to mention non stop glitches with the elevators
Elevators divide up the object container zones which will make it easier for server meshing. They are a necessary evil to allow more players per shard by reducing the portions of the universe each dedicated game server has to keep in memory.

@@OneTwoMarkfor the interior, definitely, but the exterior is vastly different to the other stations by a long shot.

The answer to that question is why Seraphim exists
I think the simple PO-like stations would be good as Lagrange point stations where its expected for them to be more limited- just habs, medical and a simple weapons/armor store. But the planetary stations need to be able to support all the gameloops so its expected for them to be bigger and more annoying. I think that would be a good compromise
^This 100%
All stations still have pads, PO just has hangars in addition to them.
Trams along a central spine, with hangars and docking ports, would be more realistic, but imagine, once there's a single server per region, having all those players trying to get to their hangars.
aren't we all just so glad to get more elevator dependency
Rather have a vertical area with an elevator than a long stretched area that takes an hour to run across.
No elevators no SC
It's how it goes
Actually Enevator Gameplay is the main game loop in star citizen.
The station is 4 times the size of PO, you don’t wanna be hoofing that
@@dallasscandling6329elevators rarely move vertically in star citizen.
in some ways , i understand why they want to make port olisar looking like the other planetary stations, but this new one kinda lost that feeling of getting inside our ships without elevators, without transition.
The elevators are basically a loading screen, that's what they feel like.
Wasn't this game meant to be free of loading screens?
Players: we LOVE that Port Olisar has no transit loops to slow us down.
CIG: we've added transit loops! 🎉
Like a Space 711
Not a terrible idea
Could actually be a model used across the verse
@@Uncanny_Mountain basically, a place with no hangars, PO's landing pad design where you are encouraged to get in and out quickly.
Maybe a couple Pharmacy terminals, a food/drink shop and a low tier armor and weapon vendor, just enough to refit/refuel and bug out.
@@eon-sc Because CIG
make sure the PO facility is somewhere in the verse. Its an incredible station and deserves a place in the game somewhere.
An upgrade to PO would be nice, but wven the original is fine with me. There are construction areas inside each strut that could easily have elevators added. The center segments of the station itself are huge. You could fit a new larger medical clinic in one, and a Cousin Crows in the other.
Having them in a remote area of Nyx with one of the OG automated refuel stations would be so good!
sad day. seraphim needs pads. nothing like that moment when olisar came into the game and we walked out onto our pad to see our ship for the first time (after turning round 3 times to find the right door, and forgetting to use the locker to change and dying to lack of oxygen). a glorious 300i for me, prior to the embloatening.
Love the T pose in during the fiery death. Absolutely terrific ending :D
Whatever happens, I hope they keep legacy PO in some form or fashion. For those of us who have been a part of this journey since kickstarter, it will always have a special place in our memories. When we first spawned at PO, it made the vision that is Star Citizen real.
Yeah, so you basically updated PO to any copypasted minimally customized space station and called it a day. What an improvement...
Uniquely designed... uses the same modules as we all know from previous stations.
Right?? Externally different module, internally just the same Copy&Paste with different arrangements.
RIP Port Olisar. :( You’ve been my home since early 2017.
Gutted that seraphim will be exactly the same as all of the other stations and the landing pads will be replaced by yet more squeeze your ship into this tiny hole landing bays :(. PO was loved for its get in and out quickly gameplay so cig removes that gameplay. RIP PO I will miss you yet another great station bites the dust for a kit version with no uniqueness. I’m so sad
Can't fit a hundred players on 5 landing pads
Bet you also complain they're not making enough progress too
Olisar is charming. My two cents.
heck, take out the B and D arms, add a transit line down the spine, replace a shop with a medical center in the A and C arms, replace the entire B arm with a shopping center, and replace the entire D arm with a cargo deck and security dock.
so many great memories, ill never forget the first time i walked out onto the pads and heard the music. it made me believe in this project and reinvigorated my love for gaming as a whole. thank you CIG for creating the most iconic space station the alpha will ever see.
That's my feeling exactly...the absolutely iconic music track, walking out onto the pads for the very first time in alpha 2.0...it was the most epic gaming moment I've ever experienced, and that's why I love Oli and always will.
yeah!
I remember my late great great great great great grandfather talking about the wonders of PO.
12:12 Even whennthe space station is crashing and burning, there is an NPC standing on a chair in a T pose. CLASSIC 😂
Always felt like going home whenever id visit PO. Remember my first spawn and seeing Crusader.....❤
wow literally same for me, after a long day of mining on daymar I would come to PO and the music would soothe my soul, it always really did feel like home.
@@iwanttodie7199 yes sir. Hope they do it justice, it was a special little place.
Same! Way back in 2.0, spawning in the actual PU instead of just the hangar module...with that epic song playing...

The T-posing npc on the seat killed me. The devs are self aware.
This made me tear up, PO was the first station everyone spawned on a while ago. I remember first getting into Star Citizen and seeing Crusader above the station and watching ships flyby and land next to me being awestruck at the view you had from PO. I remember first getting into my Cutty Black and powering it up and getting ready to jump into the ‘verse head first. We’ll miss you Port Olisar until we see you again….
Should be celebrating the end of of an era, all the whinging and bleating
This is a landmark in the development of SC
@@Uncanny_Mountain you don’t seem to understand the comment, I never said anything about it being a bad thing that they are moving on with the game. I simply said that to people, such as myself, PO was the first time we got to experience the grand scale of SC it was the first ever station in the Persistent Universe. I like many other Citizens have great memories there. So I wasn’t “Winging” and I don’t think anyone really is. All we are saying is that we are going to miss Port Olisar until it comes back.
@@Fire-Bound sorry, I didn't mean you, you're right though, I should've been more clear

@@Uncanny_Mountain ah ok that makes more sense. I’ll definitely have to agree on that.
Port Olisar is NOT easy in and out...
PO is Home !
I understand the futureproofing, its just a little sad. But that's my own personal opinion!
Now try doing that with 1000 other players

Rest in peace olisar who guided our beginnings
So you took the "easy get in, get out" that we liked about Port Olisar and threw it away and the open landing pads, the one thing that made the station look alive since we could see the ships of others? I dunno, man.
Did y'all realize we hate the transit loop - it's not a good thing. It's why we love Oli.
PO was the best Space Station so far. With no doubt my absolute Favorite.
Port Olisar is an old friend and sometimes a foe. It will be missed.
Especially the nice view of and direct access to the landing pads, it gave me the feeling of a certain connectedness that the other stations miss.
I hate elevators and hangars. They constantly break. That's what makes PO great, no elevators no hangars, just stairs and pads.
On GOD
They need to add long hallways and stairwells to get to around the stations. Just like a hotel has a stairwell
SC is built around this tech for a reason
Go play Starfield, lots of ladders there 😂
No other experience like going into the air lock for the first time at PO and stepping into the verse. Then falling lifelessly onto the floor with no helmet. Good times they were…. She will be missed.
The gameplay capture team never disappoint when it comes to getting a good laugh out of a otherwise normal change to the game 😂
Miss the landing pads and being able to call your ship to a landing pad, really hope CIG give us options to call a ship to the hanger or a pad. The walk out seeing your ship on a pad with space in the back ground was the most immersive experience and its being lost or forgotten :(
Wish it didnt look like all the other stations inside... PO was Unique visually and convenient. Imma miss it 4ever :(
They should make the original Port Olisar an easter egg, in orbit somewhere around Crusader with no nav marker
I would totally love that
Like Bennyhenge, a place we can go on pilgrimage to leave a Pico plushie.
@@ADGMagic Not hard to imagine given it was pretty lawless anyway :)
Decent job on the new station, finally adding more possibilities to it! ---> BUT:
I guess maybe they could use Port-O's design for stations way out there like (I believe) ARC-L3 all the way in the west of the system
Port Oli killed me so many times... so many laughs, so many tears spillt. :')
So the interior is gonna look exactly the same as every other station just bigger…that’s cig so innovative
I'm going to miss stepping out into vac at PO, and walking up to my ship. Seraphim makes sense, but PO was just cool.
Hats off to the team who makes all the funny clips at the end. I love all the little nods to some of SC's "features". Loving your work!
Also RIP PO. You will be missed!
Goodbye Olisar :( always be in our hearts ❤
PO is gonna return later on, they're only removing it temporarily thankfully. I guess they're gonna keep it as a museum station.
@@watch_kittyits gone my dude
@@watch_kitty I believe it is supposed to be moved as the orbiting station of Delamar, above the Levski mining station landing zone.
would love it if port olisar was to be placed near the jump point as a service station. That would be kinda cool.
The mother of the first PU pilots"
Also Devs: "So we made another huge hulking station with a ton of elevators, hangars and a multitude of spaces so you can spend 30 minutes trying to reach your ship, provided the elevators work."
Wow a station that looks like every other station on the inside so cool CIG.....
PO used to be pad rammer's paradise until it was fixed. 10/10 still would visit and stay at PO though.
And they didn't even name this new version "New Olisar"
SMH
Edit: I know these guys tried, but I'm guessing they were told to use hangars and lifts for scalability.

Nice!
Take Port Olisar and mesh 1/4 of it into a ground location as a ground base, that would be really cool and unique!
This! I hope some of it is re-used for ground missions. It would be super awesome.
Only issue is a gas giant doesn't have a ground
