Frequently, New Testament authors were diligent record keepers of where things took place and who else bore witness. Sometimes they would even reference current events presupposing the reader's knowledge. In our case, we're not privy to the "news of the day," however, we can look to outside sources to fill in those gaps and give us a greater understanding of the Scriptures.
