He is a survivor of October 7th from Beeri.. His parents were murdered that day by Hamas. The reason he is barefoot according to what he explains is because he grew up on a kibbutz. This song is dedicated to his father.
Dear Cody, Because you don't have a translation for this, you missed something very special.. The last row of the song says: "I remember everyone who played music on me, and I say {and he added : Dad, Mom} thank you" 😢 It is very beautiful and touching
@דייןאיריס it is a joke. on the official videos of Israeli music competitions I write comments giving the name of the song, etc. in English for people who don't know Hebrew, like when the contestants sang Hanan Ben Ari songs I said and Ben Ari is the one with the jean jacket, kippa and glasses.. and when I refer to Keren I say, the woman who cries a lot. And everyone knows who I am referring to. It is not lashon hara or mean. it just is. I cried when I heard Daniel sing it for the THIRD time. normally i just watch but the cleaning lady was over and doesn't know Hebrew ( only Polish and English) and I was watching it again and she asked what he was singing about and i translated after every line and it was very emotional and we both started crying. 💔
Thank you, Cody-nice job conveying some of what makes this singer & this song (& the way he performs it) so special. If you watch it while reading the translation of the lyrics, it’s exponentially even more beautiful. The song is pretty & heartfelt in its own right-but the context here, and the way Daniel modifies it at the end into a tribute to the father & mother he lost, is just devastating.
There is much back story behind this video, I don't know where to start... First, the song itself " I'm a guitar" is a song written by legendary musician Naomi Shemer for and about Asaf Amdurski's (tough judge, as you call him) dad Benny who was an iconic singer. He sang it on TV two weeks before he passed away when Asaf was a teenager. So, Asaf has a very strong connection to it (not positive). He invited Daniel Weiss to perform with him on stage a few times and told the other judges how great he was before he started singing. Keren (judge who cried who you asked to know her name) knew him personaly prior to 10/7. Keren had a best friend in Kibutz Be'eri and had been there with her family contantly. So, she was overwhelmed from get go.
@screamtoasigh9984 because it was hard for a teenager to lose his dad and be reminded of it by hearing this song that he sang just two weeks before hs died. Nowdays, he is much more connected to it and actually is on a special tour with his dad's songs.
@chavamor4473 thank you. that's bittersweet. I didn't know what his relationship with his dad was like, so I was imagining that it was a bad relationship and the song reminded him of it. The truth is better. 💓
Yes, a great singer.❤ The one behind the original song "I'm a guitar" is the late Benny Amdorski, the father of the toughest judge, sitting on the judges' throne on the right side with the white/silver hair. A classic Israeli song.🤍💙

The last three words he sang were : "dad, mom, thankyou"
The judge you said cried, her name is: "Keren Peles" She wrote the song Hurricane that Eden Golan sang at Eurovision
She always cries. She is Paula Abdul's twin in this. Both Jewish women judges who cry a lot.
@@screamtoasigh9984 She cries at the songs that move her, she doesn't cry at what doesn't move her.

Why not positive? More than Assaf's usual personality?
