At first I was a bit "yes that's alright". After listening to it for 3 more times, I'm now officially addicted to that song. It is musically so interesting and well constructed. So impressive they did it in 5 days.
I keep seeing that this was made in just 5 days and just....what??? Writing a song in 5 days isn't so bad, especially when you're clicking with the material, but I'm assuming it was written, performed, engineered, and mastered in 5 days and that's just insane. I can't imagine doing something like that. Everyone just has to be on the top of their game for a whole week and that HAS to be exhausting.
@@CriticalReactions Yeah just the writing isn't that impressive, but they had to "release" the song (I thin it's more accurate) in 5 days, while on tour, in their hotel rooms. Producsing such a good song, in such a short period of time is really impressive.
"We're gettin' some Skrillex mixed with some old school bring me the horizon and i didn't know i needed this" is probably the best description i've heard of what i felt at that part lol
I wouldn't mind seeing more bands play with genre more fluidly but I don't think music as a whole should shift to this. While rigid compositional guidelines might seem like a bad idea it can lead to some really great stuff.
And I didn't know that I needed to sub, this reaction was great ^^ Also from my understanding luden means play as u said and some Russian wrote a book don't exactly remember the exact story but in this song luden meaning play but also human/inhuman as in That we need a new luden someone who plays a new role in life and how easy it is to destroy life
Thanks for the sub. I found out afterwards that the song was made for a game called Death Stranding so I'm going to look into that and see if I can make any connections between between the two regarding play and/or inhuman traits/people.
Critical Reactions they are releasing a video in the next day or so with the maker of the game. It should give you more of an idea of the meaning. I think it is going to be a must see! The game looks incredible! Great reaction!
Homo Ludens is a book originally published in Dutch in 1938 by Dutch historian and cultural theorist Johan Huizinga. It discusses the importance of the play element of culture and society. Huizinga suggests that play is primary to and a necessary (though not sufficient) condition of the generation of culture. The Latin word ludens is the present active participle of the verb ludere, which itself is cognate with the noun ludus. Ludus has no direct equivalent in English, as it simultaneously refers to sport, play, school, and practice.
This is a response I was waiting to see. I've actually been quite interested in Homo Ludens ever since Jamin Warren introduced it to me in his old web series PBS Game/Show. Excellent breakdown and lineage of the word!
React to "wonderful life", "mantra", "sugar honey ice & tea" & "the happy song".. these are songs from previous 2 albums. similar to that, a pop w/ heavy/rock stuff..
I got into BMTH around their That’s the Spirit album. I had heard of them before, but I wasn’t quite into the screaming quite yet at that point. I’ve only just recently got into their previous albums. This song though, might be my favorite of theirs. It combines all of the different aspects of BMTH into one and it’s just done so well. It really surprised me when I first listened to it.
Right? It's such a great fusion of everything they have done and is a great conclusion to their work so far. It makes the statement "this is who we are, who we've been, and who we will be." I read that they aren't making albums anymore and while that's a bit sad as a listener, I can't imagine any better way to stop than with this song.
That's an interesting viewpoint on this song that never occurred to me at all. But you're right, the melodic flow and varying intensities definitely feel like an LP song.
Subbed! Loved your reaction and I completely agree with everything. Also, Ludens is one of the songs for the OST of Death Stranding, a PS4-exclusive game, and they finished this song in just a span of 6 days in various hotel rooms during tour just to meet the deadline. If that doesn’t scream talent then I don’t know what is.

If you're loving the mix of hard rock and pop, you should listen to Starset, especially in their latest album, they do an excellent job of creating a dynamic in their songs.
This isn't the first request for Starset and the more people I see talking about it the more excited I get to discover them. I'll have a Starset reaction some time tomorrow.
@@CriticalReactions if you're looking for something heavier from them, go for bringing it down, frequency or telekinetic, more poppy go for satellite, faultline, somewhere in the middle go for monster, my demons, manifest or ricochet
In fact its not a Kojima invention, he tooket from Johan Huizinga, who in 1938 introduce it as part of his studies on how to play its an important part of culture and society. Its part of the evolution of definition of modern man ( first came the taxonomic definitions like: homo erectus - man that stand straight, that evolve into homo sapiens - man that thinks, and then the humanists definitions for modern man: homo faber - man that creates, homo ludens - man that plays, those two are confronted, like egg and chicken thing)
Unfortunately I haven't checked out much else. I heard Parasite Eve but somehow a this EP slipped by me until today. I'll have to check out the other half of the CD and get back to ya.
I know this is an old video, but I'm commenting anyway. You said you wanted more of pop/rock mix? Look up Solence. They do this kind of music. They are very underrated, so you've probably never heard of them. My recommended songs to start with are Heaven, Brothers, and Animal In Me. Love the videos!
@@CriticalReactions hmm yeah. My favourite songs from the album "Count Your Blessings" are "i used to make out with medusa", "for stevie wonders eyes only", "tell slater not to wash his dick" and "liquor & love lost", so you could react to one of those, and continue if you dig the music :)
Reaper is such a great program -- especially for the cost. I'm really enjoying this surge of professional software at affordable pricing that's happening lately. Stuff like Affinity Photo, Hitfilm, and Reaper are showing that you don't need to charge $200+ for software while still being up to snuff.
I'm just going video to video watching reactions to the breakdown and you're added to the epic reaction list lol
Christian Mata omg same 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Same... best executed breakdown ive ever heard
Ludens came from the kojima production logo, the game is death stranding where it was based on within 5 days of making, it was hell
"I'm going to have to listen to this song like 5 more times" - Legit me.. lol

It's funny because Skrillex actually helped with some of the production on their really old stuff (like the vocal chops in "Crucify Me")
on soundcloud there's loads of BMTH remixes from YEARS ago of count your blessings and suicide season
I’m kinda hoping this new blended sound of rock and everything is the next step for music. Take all the best of the genres and love the child

Ludens in this context with the game refers to Homo Ludens a term explained in game as "those who play"

this song is the best since sempiternal

LUDENS = PLAYER from what I heard
skrillex meets bmth, haven't thought of that before but it's a good definition
Fire reaction mate probably the best one I have seen so far
"Hard Rock, Pop, And Electronic" *ahem Starset maybe?*
I thought I was the ONLY ONE AHHH
Best reactions I’ve seen. You deserve more of an audience. People can learn a lot from you.
Neither did i. But for sure. My 9 year old girl rocks this for karaoke at least once a week
The entire album this is from is like this, their new sound is so great.
3:43 omg that was so perfect hahaha

you were right on the nose with the etymology. homo ludens is the word kojima came up with. it means "humans that play"

The song isnt about the internet, its about reconnecting the world after an apocalyptic event
Its basically reconnecting the world again using the internet lol.
My favourite albums of the are sempiternal and thats the spirit, so i love this song
Ludens means a fictional race. For example you have the human race. In the beginning of the video it says from Sapiens to Ludens.
Hands down the best reaction!
I come back and watch this reaction often. Now that post human has come out, what do you think? Ludens really was just the beginning.
