I was born and raised in OKC and have lived here most of my sixty-one years. I've also driven Uber for the past five years. If an out of town passenger asks where to go for dinner, I tell them about Cattleman's Steakhouse. It's not fancy but it's honest and real. There is no slick veneer. There's a good chance your waiter or waitress has been wearing that signature tuxedo shirt and diamond knot tie for twenty or thirty years. During lunch, you might see cowboys with spurs on their boots coming over from the stockyards after dropping off their loads. The steaks are excellent, the prices are reasonable, the potato, salad, and roll are included, the people are friendly, and they have - without a doubt - the best damn coconut cream pie in the state. Cattleman's is the heart and soul of Oklahoma City.
Cattlemen's is only famous because it is located in the OKC Stockyards and George HW Bush ate there on his visit to OKC. It is old and dated inside and is overpriced for what you get. I know someone who was a cook there for many years and even he said don't eat there for reasons I won't say here. I would go to Texas Roadhouse before I would go to Cattleman's and get a better steak for 1/2 the price.

The Flannel Jacket is my fav. My wife loves the Spiced Daisy. Just to name a couple. Steve the very tall bartender is the best in the city and can make just about anything off menu if he has time. Halls Pizza is a fun experience as well and is right next door to Barrios. Hope this helps! Just Subscribed as well thx!
Thanks for the comment. I love Palo Santo, they have some great cocktails! Jessie is amazing, one of the best in the OKC hospitality industry. Love Hall's and Barrio's too--great spots!
Apparently neither one of you have ever eaten at the Chuck House on 10th for THE BEST Chicken Fried Steak dinner on Planet Earth. Now THAT is some good eats for a true Oklahoman, don't let anybody try and tell you different.
Chuck House! I haven’t been there in probably 20 years.. Need to get back. How do you rank their chicken fry against Del Rancho? After all, the meat hangs off the bun! 😂
Honestly, a solid list. I haven't been to any of them aside Goro. Point is, I already trust your tastes. You should review them in a more deep-dive way.
I have lived in OKC since 1960 Of the 10 restaurants listed in this video the only one I've eaten at Braums and have only even heard of two of the others. And to call Braums. a restaurant is a stretch. And I can think of 10 other places off the top of my head that have a better burger. Their ice cream is no bad but you can grab a bucket of Blue Bell at the grocery store that is better.
Check out The Owle Shoppe in downtown Shawnee Oklahoma. Their food is absolutely delicious! They have vegan and vegetarian choices. Everything is so fresh. If you’re into lobster grilled cheese, they have it.
The chocolate milk at braums is on another level. I always get certain groceries from there it's a great place in addition to the food from the restaurant. Oh and where is eischens chicken. I know it's in watonga but still it's legendary
Braum's grocery section is low-key underrated. Great for a quick stop for the essentials. Eischens is in Okarche, about a 45 min drive NW of OKC. And yes, legendary. Have you been?
Born and raised in Okc, and have been to a few of the restaurants listed. But I am absolutely amazed that CATTLEMENS was not listed at all let alone it should have been in the number 1 spot. I have never been there and not had a packed house, early, late Monday-Sunday.
I was today years old when I discovered the meaning behind the name "Chicken & Pickle." I thought it was a sideways reference to Chic-Fil-A's ubiquitous pickle... I need to get out more, apparently.
There's no shortage of very good restaurants in and around OKC for sure. I've been to Deep Duece but haven't been to Grey Sweater. What an interesting name for a restaurant though. Be advised that cellphone reception in that area stinks for some reason but if you're dining you shouldn't be on your phone anyway.
I'm sorry, but any list that doesn't include Cattlemen's isn't Oklahoma. The best places taste like home and they generally aren't fancy or extravagant. The best meals of my life were served in my Great Aunt Zella's kitchen. Her sour dough rolls, she called them biscuits lol, were without doubt the most delicious bread I've ever tasted and that recipe is lost. 😢
I don’t know how you pased up Cattlemens, Ted’s Escondidas, Vann Barbeque Stand in Moore. I wouldn’t eat at those in the lists. I have lived in Okc 66 years. There are others. Don’t know what you are thinking unless they have to be high dollar.
Different strokes for different folks... Grey Sweater from my list would fall into the category of "high dollar" but I wouldn't necessarily say that about the other places I mentioned.
Cattleman’s isn’t updated and modern, but it’s an absolute staple in OKC. My grandparents took me there as a kid and there’s so many memories. When people from out of town ask me what places to check out, I always tell them Cattleman’s and Eischen’s just for the historical significance of them. There’s so many amazing places to eat in and around OKC. My parents got engaged at Pete’s Place in Kreb’s back in 1968. I’d love to see a video on the oldest restaurants to try in Oklahoma.
