Agreed! This has been in my top10 all-time movies since I first saw it. Endlessly quotable! Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell are reuniting for McDonagh's new movie The Banshees of Inisherin. It's in post production now, rumored to hit theaters later this year on Dec 2nd. I'm super excited based on everything I've read about the plot & location -- it's gonna be masterful!
It's Ralph Fiennes' teeth at that moment absolutely slay me. It's the best teeth acting I've ever seen. He communicates a breathtaking level of outrage with them. He's such a hair-trigger psycho the whole movie but in this moment Ken is bluntly frank with him that's it's like he doesn't know what to do with himself 😂😂
I don't know what it is, if it's his stare or the angle, but it literally looks like Fiennes is looking over Gleeson's shoulder and right at you. It's brilliantly unnerving despite the dark humour on full display.
Harry is a great villain because the audience understands his viewpoint. Ken was even going to kill Ray himself. And this scene does a great job showing Harry isn't stereotypically evil, just lacking personal connection, being more objective, and a little pissed.
@@Garybusey11Kingsley's character was an unhinged psychopath though. Harry is different, he seems very principled and seems to care about his family/they seem to love him. He obviously has a capacity for terrible violence but there's more of a duality to him than Don Logan.
This is one of the greatest scenes movie history. The writing, delivery, and acting is remarkable in its subtlety. Truly a tour de force on all levels. I come back here regularly to get my fix. It never gets old.

Obviously it has a big approval rating and won a bunch of awards because it's a great movie, most people who get to watch it they love it, thing is way too many people don't know its existence, when it should be in every person's watch-list. Maybe in your social cycle everyone knows, has seen and appreciates this movie but my anecdotal experience is that for many people this movie has gone under their radar.
Holds his own? I think Gleeson is probably doing marginally better than Fiennes here, since Fiennes is leaning slightly into the comedy. But it doesn’t matter since they obviously like each other so much and are having a good time.
I watched this movie with my Highschool girlfriend and her extended family. I was so bummed when they picked it and halfway through I was the only one who liked it. Such a good movie.
I was on the fence at first, but it gets better the more I watch it. Especially when you pick out all of the foreshadowing and realise how hilariously anti-PC it constantly is.
I keep coming back to this clip to see when Yurie says, "you're goin' over board, mate" (1:57)- he is simultaneously enraged, yet you can see his vulnerability and hurt...both actors are amazing, but Fiennes really shines here.

This movie solidified Brendan Gleeson for me as an actor of the highest caliber. I’d already felt similarly about Ralph Fiennes, and Colin Farrell.
Same effect for me but with Farrell, I'd always assumed he was just a good-looking piss-artist when he became famous, seeing as that's what he tended to be reported for. Over the years I've seen a bunch of his films and he's really fucking good, and always funny.
I still remember I took a film class for college back in 2009 and this was the first film we watched and the professor said this is a class for slackers, all we're gonna do is watch good movies. He was right
This scene could be a stand alone short movie and ticks every box. You would be thinking who are these men and what brings them together, who is the kid and what scenario did he find himself in where he shot another ‘kid’. Simply brilliant.

The music in this film is so good. This started playing in the background of my youtube tab, and I knew exactly what it was before I heard the 10/10 dialogue.

Besides this masterpiece there are three Brendan Gleeson films everyone should watch. Calvary. The Guard. Studs.
