I miss mall culture, and all the stores that used to be popular back then. Shopping was a social experience and a way to see and be seen by the boys you liked. Teens today have no idea what they're missing out on by being terminally online.
I honestly don’t miss it. I enjoy online shopping more and all the conveniences of having extra more personal and private time to myself. Wouldn’t go back to living in the 80s or 90s. Maybe the only thing I miss were the lower prices. Truly so.
@@LUCKYTIGER8 The OP is specifically talking about going to the mall in their teenage years, not shopping as an adult. No adult goes to the mall to be seen by “boys they like.” Whenever I do go to a mall or stand alone a brick and mortar store, I miss actually seeing and touching fabrics. It makes such a difference in the buying experience.
I didn't know about any of the scandals and I don't care about social media. The reason I don't buy from Guess is because their products look very cheap. Not just in their quality, but also in the way their styling. They seem to be geared at women that wear too much make-up, talons for nails, too tight clothes and high stiletto's. It cheapens the look considerably.
Correct, it was edgy back in the 90s but it morphed into tacky mobster wife or ratchet fashion very quickly. Theyre a cheaper alternative to Versace which is another tacky brand.
I’m rooting for Guess to make a comeback! It’s styling is glamorous and fitted something that’s needed today. If I see one more baggy jean with an oversize faded T-shirt. I’m going to lose my mind. 🤣
I live in Spain and at least in my city Guess is doing crazy well one of my friends who works in the guess store said that the sales are going very well to the point where she has to do a lot of overtime since they need that many workers for the huge amount of clients. Also this is my first time even hearing that Guess has had scandals but maybe here in Spain it never really was as big of a topic as in the USA
I do know Guess is said to be a focus from a major department store this season. While I was aware of the sweatshop stuff, I was unaware of the others aside from possibly the copying (I am being reminded of when the store manager commented on an exclusive sandal resembling Yves Saint Laurent.) Curiously, I remember Guess holding a certain image back in the 90s and even 2000s, with the shoes being of a decent quality. Looking at the current selection, most of what I see from the shoes and handbags are synthetic materials.
The only comfortable, well-fitting, jeans I ever had were from Guess (early 90s?). They were made of super-light, white, 100% cotton and I loved them so much I wore them out. I’m really impossible to fit in jeans, so I should try theirs again, if they have non-stretch ones.
I've been wondering if they're doing well since I always see their stuff on outlets. Not very surprising when everything they sell is overprice and low quality synthetic materials.
Have been using their purse for eleven years now, have ripped off the “leather” bit of the zipper just last week. Everything else is still in tact to my surprise
I’ve purchased a couple of pieces recently from Guess and love them. For a while the quality was subpar but they’re slowly coming back. I hope they do. I wore them religiously in high school! Lol would be nice to see what fresh ideas they come out with.
Girl, me too. You must be close to my age! Guess was the holy grail of style back in highschool. I had one maybe two outfits from there because they were hella expensive!
Guess style reminds me very much of fashionova and is the young and overly sexy type of style which for that price-point just doesn't make sense. Especially taking into consideration the bad quality of materials and sewing. Their other brand Marciano is much better but again going into a polar opposite direction: frumpy auntie but sexy aestetic ;)
I stopped the video and spent some time looking at the Guess website. I saw no quality or up-to-date items at all. Really, I’m done with the graphic tees, skin-tight skinny jeans and sequin skimpy tops they’re selling. This isn’t a medium-range brand at all, brands like Equipment, Sezane, Lily Silk, MM la Fleur and Banana Republic are (well, BR was until they went down polyester “satin” road recently!)
GUESS? was one of my favorite designers growing up in the 80's and 90's. GUESS? name came about because they saw a billboard of Taco Bell having customers GUESS about a price or product and that's how the name was developed. That shocked me because I figured the name was developed from creative marketing geniuses, but the true origin of GUESS? is even cooler! Incidentally, I always liked it better when the GUESS? logo was green. I haven't kept up with GUESS? in forever, but I enjoyed wearing GUESS? clothes growing up. I wonder if the flooding of super luxury brands like GUCCI, YSL, Prada, Versace, etc. helped make the iconic brand less well known? Finally, can you do a video about Girbaud jeans another favorite staple of mine from the early 90's?! That would be wonderful!
I did get a few years back a down coat from them (maybe 3?). The shape is nice and it's comfortable and it's holding up really nicely and keeps me warm. However, most of their materials are cheap, so I'm not a regular customer.
The great thing about guess in the late 90s early 00s is that their fits accommodated an actual female figure and not the heroine chic trend of the time! They're jeans had the best fits!
@@peterlangendorff9846I second and third this motion! Those brands - especially Benetton - were out of reach for my childhood self. The Benetton stores and marketing were near-luxury. I remember getting the magazine /catalog in the mail a couple of times and the photography and quality of the paper and printing were comparable to the Monde de Hermes of today.
I always liked their clothes, but I did always wonder if they were racist. I'm not surprised by the racial discrimination lawsuits. They seemed to avoid multicultural models at all costs and mainly showed blondes in their clothes.
I used to shop at Guess quite often. They were one of the few men brands that wasn't bland yet not too flashy, but also affordable with good quality (I still have most of my shirts from ten years ago!). I think Guess has had a few issues with their downfall, however: they started relying heavily on their monogram prints. I love a monogram here and there, but never a monogram print. Monogram prints in luxury are already considered to be a bit tacky -- especially as most people lean towards minimalism -- so a brand that isn't premium, this is seen even worse. My second complaint is the quality and false marketing. A lot of my clothes were very decently made, and would last ages if taken care of (wash on delicate cycle, cold water, dry flat if needed). Guess started doing their "eco line" which claims to be environmentally friendly, which mostly uses rayon and viscose and the like. Having to be in the fashion industry, neither viscose or rayon are environmentally friendly (bio degradable). Materials such as cotton, linen, wool, etc. will naturally biodegrade in a few years, whereas synthetic materials (polyester, nylon, etc.) do not. Rayon and viscose are a weird mixture of the two, but ultimately, they are synthetic because they do not biodegrade. What essentially happens is they take the cellulose (pulp) from plants like trees, add plastic, and thus comes out a new material. This is the same material used the majority of sunglasses (acetate). Viscose and rayon are different as they achieve a softer feel. The issue is, they stain easily and will degrade upon being wet or heated up 😅 so you're more likely to get rid of that new shirt you just got a few months ago. What's depressing is because the natural fibers have been treated, they *cannot* be biodegradable, yet they're still marketed as being eco friendly. What's weird is Guess charges premium prices, despite the quality having gone under the past several years.
I bought a dress from guess for the first time in 10 years. I didn't know about the scandals and just thought I'd give them a try. I like the dress I bought but haven't really seen anything else that thrilled me
Over 15 years ago I loved the brand especially the shoes.. very comfortable even if they were high etc.. the last 10 years Gucci gave me tacky/low vibe.. dresses are for people seeking attention, not elegant at all, the bags are so loud - you recognize the bags 1 mile away.. the quality is not so good anymore.. I stopped shopping from them over 10 years ago.
My fiancé got me a , I would say, very nice bag and I was surprised but it is also quite a simple bag. I use it from time to time. But Guess is definitely not the brand i would choose usually. Some products are really poor made
I feel like style of guess suited more 90´s and 2000´s than today. Also many designs of hanbags looks like fake of designers thats why i wont buy like 80% of them. I have one very practical handbag which is just black with decent logo and doesnt look tacky.
I have seen Cubans (men) wearing skin tight skinny jeans. God knows where they buy them, but all Cubans wear them and dress the same. That being said. They wear those jeans Capri style with running shoes, and loud Guess shirts; it just cheapens the brand. They shirts already look cheap with the massive Guess logo printed on.
They don’t deserve a comeback. They settled the Upton et al lawsuit for an estimated $30M but refused to acknowledge any wrongdoing. I’m a prime demographic for their nostalgia bait but I’ll never buy anything from the brand again, unless and until there’s a full reckoning. Chances of that are nil, of course.

Why ONLY TOWARDS YOUNG people? Young people now adays can't even afford a car or rent, they even cry because they can't even scratch the surface to BUY a house. With the prices that the Guess brand always charged for their crap, they're better off staying away.

So you should come to Latin America, they love malls here.

Yeah, Guess's biggest strength was the ad campaigns they used to do. Now the brand is kind of one you forget still exists.
exactly

I like sexy clothing, but Guess looks a lot like something a person forced into you know what would be forced to wear to attract costumers

we need a fashion revolution for sure. everything and everyone looks the same, can't stand it
If they brought back the oomf, without the tacky, they would do amazing
In Germany it is still pretty popular, you see a lot of girls with Guess bags. They have cute Prada dupes
Absolutely! I hope they come back with their original styles...! It would be so fresh today

Yes in Spain guess is still popular. People don’t pay that much attention to the scandals.

I agree, they need to step up their game when it comes to quality. With these materials, they have no chance in the current market
they need a new creative director ! like theyre stuff looks like its still from the 90s

You can hardly find non stretch jeans anymore. Even men’s jeans have stretch these days.
I was a store manager at a guess store in Rome and sales were strong
I think Guess needs to focus on a more positive public image. As well as presenting products no one else carries.
I didn't ask my mom to buy me a Guess watch in the 90's but she did. She wanted me to fit in 😅
you have a precious mom :)
I've been wondering if they're doing well since I always see their stuff on outlets. Not very surprising when everything they sell is overprice and low quality synthetic materials.
Guess has some good quality clothes… my favorite perfume from them was Guess seductive back in the 2000’s. What a time 😅
I had a Guess purse in my 20s, and it was amazing - super durable, subtle design, cute shape - but the brand went super tacky, and lost me
Yup. Their stuff started looking so ugly to me as time passed, outdated in the worst ways
Have been using their purse for eleven years now, have ripped off the “leather” bit of the zipper just last week. Everything else is still in tact to my surprise

Georges Marciano was the primary founder of Guess. the originial interior labels had Georges name on them.
I honestly didn't realize they were still around
I stopped shopping there because the quality has gotten really cheap
I love their clothes
This brand has never been appealing to me. I once bought a perfume from this brand and it was an epic fail, making my disregard toward it even bigger😅

Guess was the cheaper sister to Bebe who was the cheaper sister to Versace.

I bought a couple pieces from them in the early 2000s and one of them was extremely high quality silk and lace. I would take a look at them again.
The style went down the hill. I used to love them in the 90’s
I still buy from Guess, they have some nice items, esp jeans 👖
I will check out the jeans!
Has any large company not been sued for discrimination?
Unfortunately, you are absolutely right.
They have nice sunglasses and sometimes watches. I get complimented on them all the time but I never ever bought clothes there.
guess jeans are some of the best. I am yet to be proven wrong. better than LEVIs
