Just an FYI: you can still dig up the chest if you fail the rolls, you just have to use the shovel and guess where the chest is. Get close enough, and you will dig it up.
Also: ‘close’ is a very generous word. Vaguely near will work.

Well there goes the noble stalk and a quest since you blew up the mushroom field. I also agree with Gabby chat saying to use the hammer changes the entire dynamic of a major boss fight and incidentally costs you an achievement you could have gotten.

at 24:08 I did my most DnD type thing and went 5. Push the duergar into the water. Then did the same with most of his crew. As far as loot goes not good, but personal satisfaction of being a pirate and having 2 duergar rafts commandeered? Yo ho ho indeed.
chat just helping them through the boss fight kinda sucked the intense atmosphere from it. one time i really found chat a bunch of KJs cause they really just took away the gang's "OH SHIT! guys we can use the hammer" moment when they finally figure it out
I agree, it also would have cost them the achievement they got since they managed to beat him with their kiting plan.
