Every time I see Trey shred in the 90s it’s bittersweet. I miss those days so much but I just reminded myself how lucky we all are just being part of 1 of the greatest musical community ever.
It was incredible being there as the sun slowly set as the song progressed. As the song ended it became dark. How fitting and appropriate. RIP David Bowie.
When Trey perfectly nails that run at 2:15 and goes back into the verse riff I want to stand up and toss a chair across the room and smack myself in the face and grunt scream
I wish..bro I haven't seen wm since Worcester new years eve..the one that was made a couple set..a live one..my picture of my dreaded head at the time is visible under the flying hotdawg with trey in it throwing ph8sh ping-pong balls at uS for above..well as usual these events are often hard to precisely figure out proper..uhmm amount of mind expanding and trey ping ping ball throwing at us ..tripppppiiinn face..allegedly..amount of ..anyway..the show was great but I'll never look at hotdawgs the same way..hehe ..Actually just Redrock Colorado 95 I think was my last..
I can't remember if we couldn't find a babysitter or we just said eff-it, but my ex-wife and I took our slightly more than 9-month-old son to the Clifford Ball. Folks today might say that's crazy but I'm glad he was there. Pretty cool first major experience, not to mention the bragging rights if he was ever a Phish phan.
My friend and I were in a Phish cover band and on August 15-17 1996, we went to Plattsburgh, New York USA to see this concert. It was a hot weekend ... so much so they called in the fire dept to hose people down to cool people off. It was in the early days of Phish festivals and their were no mist tents at that point. What there was, was... plenty of people getting along, enjoying good music, food, and being free.. yes exercising our right for absolute freedom ...oh and disco.. there were these 'all night disco tents' set up as part of the festival... everyone who went seemed like they had a good time... there was one dude who ate some bad shrooms and died... gotta know your shrooms man.. bring your own food if you don't want to run the risk of getting high.. Music was incredible.. learned from that festival to always bring earplugs to get to sleep and condoms, for the hippie chicks who want to get laid, but have no interest in it culminating in a pregnancy.
How bout that beautiful synced up transition at 7:01. That's the sweet spot. I live for shit like that. They absolutely take flight into ethereal realms after that. Trey is in the pocket, hell they all are. Interconnectedness....weaving in and out of psychedelic dimensions. Transcending time and space. Teleporting my consciousness to the fifth dimension.
Good lord this song is clean. Trey is a riff god. Underrated for his riffs cause he’s mostly known for jams. Mike rules fish rules page side rage side rules trey rules
I didn’t see this one just looking to see that era. There were so many good ones. I stopped listening after Billy Breathes just like I stopped after my favorite Depeche Mode after Songs of Faith and Devotion. It’s time I listen anew!!! Just saw DM In Detroit Mexico City and Portland. I’m ready to get back with Trey and company too.
This was my first album. Picked it up randomly at a record store in Louisville back in the 90s. It's still my favorite album of all music ever. I just don't think any musicians alive or dead have come close to creating a masterpiece like Junta. And I'm including all of the classical geniuses.
Incredible show. Hot as hell though and those darn disco tents were all night and freakn loud! Learned to bring ear plugs to festivals after that to get shut eye... Phish played epic as always... too bad about harpua, although definnately left us in suspense for the next Fall Tour....
Agreed on the heat! To many ballons, doses, and rolls for much Sleep. Sleep was so welcomed after we got home! 15 year old kid with older heads? Yeah I've made smarter decisions, but still phish kid!
I had tickets, however my tour ride stopped in Hershey PA. :(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:( My only Phish show regret, thanks again Phish for the release of Clifford Ball! peace
4:20 absolute magic. and trey casually looks the jon god can he get any better? how is he not considered to everyone to be up there with jerry and jimi? because he's there in my book.
It’s hard not to be shell shocked. I mean... I put all my eggs in one basket. This was my summer tour. 4 days in the woods with my favorite band. Who needs the gorge or merriweather or Alpharetta or Camden when you’re going to fucking Curveball, right? Welp... here I am. On a couch. In New Jersey. A four hour drive from Watkins Glen. The very same four hour drive I took today. Twice. Round trip. Eight hours total. Not as bad as the trips that some people took from across the country or across the ocean, but pretty damn miserable nonetheless. I don’t blame the band. I don’t even blame the NY board of health. It’s a tough pill to swallow, but if the water wasn’t safe to drink, they had no choice but to cancel. And yet... after sinking hundreds of dollars into a tent and sleeping bag and tarp and food and beer and all the other necessary supplies on top of the ticket and parking pass, it’s just devastating. I’m sitting here watching RUclips videos of Phish performances, probably because my subconscious wants that to be what I’m doing right now. And I’m having an issue I’ve never had before listening to live Phish music on the couch with a glass of bourbon. And the issue is: I can’t get into it. I’m bobbing my head but it feels forced. I’m getting distracted. I can’t get into the music. And I know that’s because I was anticipating the most epic three days of live Phish and I can’t handle the fact that I’m instead sorrowfully watching Phish videos on a New Jersey couch. I don’t know why I’m writing all of this. But I guess what I want to say is that we all know the band will find a way to make this right. Maybe they should have said something this morning when the boil water advisory first came out and the potential cancelation became a possibility, but I probably would’ve waited until I was certain to announce anything, so I can’t fault them for holding off on the cancellation announcement until 5:30 p.m. I’m sad and disappointed and to some degree I’m angry, but Trey and Page and Mike and Jon care a lot about this community and they will find a way to make this right. I love them and I love you all. And yes, there are worse things in the world, but right now this is my world and it’s what my life has been building up to for a year. And now I need to figure out what’s next from a musical perspective this summer. So if you’re in NYC and have some heady shows planned in August or September or the rest of 2018 let me know. Peace and love. Love you all.
Phish are still great and I love them and Trey is still an insane guitarist but he can’t play like this anymore. I know how sensitive all the Phish heads out there are so before the rebuttals start flying I am not knocking him! I am just pointing out how insanely good he was mid 90’s. He played incredibly difficult material and he played it lightning fast without making an error. It’s nuts. He isn’t nearly as quick and dexterous as he was back then. Again, still fantastic. But he’ll never reach this level again. We’re all older. I wonder if he has ever thought to himself “wtf did I write everything to be so difficult and complex to play?”
It's songs like this I want to show people who claim Phish and jam bands of the like are just wanking on a few basic scales without substance. This shit right here is undeniable in any musical/compositional sense
Every time I see Trey shred in the 90s it’s bittersweet. I miss those days so much but I just reminded myself how lucky we all are just being part of 1 of the greatest musical community ever.
I wouldn’t be alive for another 11 years but I miss it lol
I like how says "Be safe man" at the end, as if he's addressing one person.
That always gets me too.
As far as I'm concerned he was looking right at me. But I have no proof.
clifford ball is so fucking top notch from beginning to end.
It was incredible being there as the sun slowly set as the song progressed. As the song ended it became dark. How fitting and appropriate. RIP David Bowie.
90's Phish was untouchable, just insane stuff! Good times!
I honestly think he is the number 1 Guitarist alive today. He is in my top 5 Guitarist of all time list for sure.
He absolutely is. I don't think there's a #2 even close to him. He's a modern Beethoven.
Yes. Mike is the best bar none!
He is insanely good. I'd say sharper and more accurate than Jimi, SRV,
Do u still think that
@@andrewdyke5561I do

Must have stunk of nasty hippie funk. Those peope dont shower.
I bet you won't! Mine was rather uneventful historically speaking, but I'll never forget it either.✌
This is total Mozart of the 20th century. Fish, Trey, Mike, and Page at their peak imo. Damn 96 pre Billy Breathes best era
Trey = National Fucking Treasure
there is nothing quite like the last 2 minutes of a well played bowie. phuckin powerphul

That was the greatest. Best weekend of my life.
One of my top 5 concert experiences

man the ending part of this song is straight fire! this is one of the best bowies ever!!! fuck yeah!!!!!
There's just so much beauty in this bowie, Trey plays everything so tastefully.. just soaking it all in!!!
Too bad Phish fans cannot "soak" in the bathtub once in a while.

Yeah that Roxy '93 is a smoke show. So is the Divided Sky from that run. Not really jammy but alarmingly tight smh.🎶💯🐡🎶✌
12:15 made me want to punch a wookie. So fucking good.
Definitely one of my fave phish tunes!! Pretty sure I prefer sober, happy Trey but they were killing it this night for sure.
Cliffords ball really might be the best
90s trey was so angular in his playing. It sounded like his lines were zigzagging
Nice
How can they be this good ? Maybe the best band ever.
I love the "be safe man" addressed to 60,000 people.
