finished this video. jesus christ, nine hours of high quality editing, insight, and research from a youtuber almost nobody has heard of. extremely impressive
@whatthewhatthe9117 What's the best viewing order? I've now watched the intro of this one, and none of the other. is it better to watch the other guys video and than come back here. Or dedicate a week of my life to this video and watch the comparatively shorter 2 hour video as a chaser?
@@adam100x7 it doesn’t really matter which order you watch! the videos are surprisingly extremely different. i originally was writing a really long explanation of how because there is no accurate few sentence way to describe the difference between two VERY long videos but a long explanation might rob the experience. so the best way i can describe it would be: the other video is a “short” and sweet (it’s 3 hours) analysis on troll levels that focuses on the game design philosophy and how video games are art (it’s made by a game designer). it talks about the history as well but it’s less of the main focus. While this video is a very extensive deep dive into the history of said troll levels. It’s still talking about the game design! however less from the perspective of a game designer and more from a historian and fan! A important word in this comparison is “less” since there is still a lot of overlap. they are both very amazing videos
It is a crime that a 9 hour video talking about the (somehow incomplete but still stupidly long) history of SMM troll level creations has only 4.4k views at the time on writing (1 week after the video was published). This deserves more.
Maybe a month ago I had a vague memory of 7 trolly pieces but couldn’t find carls video of it. Never thought this would be how I’d discover it again but as soon as I started getting into this I knew it would show up. That was SO mind blowing to me when it happened I remember laughing so hard
Amazing video, I had been waiting a long time for something like this. One thing about the twice twice trick, though - Buckaroo would probably have deserved a mention, alongside Symplectic. Having gone back all watched through all MM1 troll videos (uploaded by Carl), I saw something I had missed/forgotten. In the video titled "Troll Me Baby One Mole Time", uploaded about 9 weeks before the "Larl does..." video, Carl encounters the twice twice as we know it - he goes through a pipe, hits a checkpoint and falls down to what looks like the start of the level. But he soon realizes it just looks like the starting room, because the key door now takes him to a completely new section/the rest of the level. So while Symplectic took twice twice to a whole new level (macro), it looks like Buckaroo came up with the original idea (he just used it in a much more limited fashion).
Just came by because Carl shouted this video out. Never expected to watch it but for some reason I sat thru the entire thing without stopping....... I think I have a problem. lol Was a fun trip down memory lane actually had forgotten about most of the levels. It was also fun to see the evolution of trolls. Thanks for making this video and being amazing enough to spend this ungodly amount of time doing research and editing for it. :D
What strikes me about Best Served Moled is how _open_ it is. Modern troll levels shunt you from room to tiny room, while Moled has these expansive platforming challenges with weird secrets and backtracking. Of course I understand why. You need smaller spaces to exert more control, cram in more trolls, hide your troll magic, and streamline the trial and error process. But still, I kinda miss that vibe sometimes.
This is absurd. I don't know which part of the soulless algorithm to thank for out-of-the-blue recommending me this 9 hour long documentary with a 3d animated and seemingly motion-captured host, but wow. I feel like I caught a shooting star by just having witnessed this. I hope it's destined to go far, because the soul put into this is on a level I haven't seen in years. Thank you for making my life more interesting for the multiple days it took me to get all the way through this, and I hope to see more works from you in the future.
I feel as if there’s context behind this video that I don’t know about, and idk why but that kinda gives this video an air of mystery that I kinda dig. Like it feels as if this is a person who has an established video style and career and yet this is the first project on this channel. I also was shocked when I saw the view count on this because this felt like one of those videos that would blow up and yet the channel only has 900~ subscribers and the video only has like 30,000 views, which is crazy. I can totally see this hitting 1 mill at some point when the algorithm decides to show it to people
Interesting that it ends at Super Abotun World; I can tell that's when you started editing this beast of a video, as Year of the Guts made so many waves in the community. The introduction of hardlocks and a return to more brutal CP1's made huge waves in the community
"Something something knowledge checkpoint something something Outer Wilds" Enough to make someone spit their drinks out in a comedically exaggerated way...
it's always great to hear people talk about the history of something that they're passionate about, and this comment is a letter of recommendation for the algorithm to start aggressively recommending this to every youtube user
half asleep from my nightly meds, but just finally finished the video. have to give massive appreciation for all the effort this video has, but with so many others mentioning research and appreciated inclusions, i *especially* love the animation throughout the video. i have to imagine even just the sitting hand, eye, and "head" animations took a lot of work and time to make.
it's crazy seeing such a well made entertaining video of this length, usually videos of great length sacrafice quality for quantity but I'm 2 and a half hours in and loving it
Good video, on the defender guide I always think of the thought of the adage, you need to know the rules before you can break them. Also funny when I hit the end of the video and history ends in 2022. It's crazy how far trolls keep going even now.
I've always liked to imagine the "liquid levels" as having a curtain to hide the mechanisms. Especially moreso that the liquid falls when you clear the level, revealing the hidden mechanisms. Kind of like a reverse curtain close at the end of a play.
I watched the whole thing in one sitting and it didn't even feel that long. Thank you for your substantial research work. I am quite late to the party and only recently discovered this community and my heart yearns for it but having missed so much already is kinda sad. At the current time with mm1 phasing out, and especially during the time when the pandemic hit I really would have loved to witness this sooner. certainly it would have turned those bleak days into something enjoyable.
Just finished the first hour and I'm taking a break. THIS IS SO AWESOME. As a Carl's fan and troll level audience, I always thought the evolution of troll meta in SMM has its own logic and would be a great and interesting topic to break down in a historical perspective, but it requires tons of work, and here I found your video essay. Hooray.
You got me to watch almost nine and a half hours of documentary about something I already knew about, so I think this is high praise??? Also, seeing how far back in time your date cutoff was is terrifying, just for the window into how long this must have taken. Nice job!
After finishing this whole video I can only say I love it. I agree that it would be lovely to have all of the history in one place, especially if it could be as high quality as this overview has been. There's definitely some trolls I didn't see that have stuck with me especially. The dry bones shell has so many creative trolls and I love it. I also think that the troll where you're dropped onto a ''fake'' skull platform from a door and launchers get moved by a track below to create the illusion the skull platform is moving until the player realizes and jumps off is absolutely fantastic. I've never played mario maker, but have followed carl especially since quite early on, and definitely watched even all his old smm videos once or twice, so I could relate to you on a lot of what you mention here of being sort of an outside viewer of this community. I really admire the work put into this, and I'd love to know more about what you think of the recent troll scene, like super wagon world. Some of the best shit I've ever seen lmfao
Been working my way through this video over the course of several months. Just finishing now - what a journey and a phenomenal video. I’ve been watching Carl since he started posting RUclips videos and this took me back through so many good memories. Thanks for all your effort!
This has genuinely been one of the most intriguing and genuinely fun videos to watch over the last while. I LOVE longform content like this and I appreciate all the work that goes on before, during and after it, the amount of hours and the sheer commitment is not just remarkable, but that in and of itself is amazing, and the sheer willpower to do something like this that took so long to make. Here's to hoping you can continue making stuff you want about what you want, and Ill happily look forward to what else you make. The only thing Im curious about is honestly what kind of troubles or issues making a project like this entails, it must've been grueling to some degree and must've felt like you wanted to quit several times Im sure. Like, how does it feel to have something so grand as a 9 hour long like this, the good and the bad? Either way GG my guy! ... Or rather, my floating animate hat...?

There is definitely no excuse for Nintendo banning bug-using levels WHILE NOT FIXING THE BUGS. If they don't want glitches to be used, they can just patch them out!
This video is a masterpiece! I know every single level in this video and have watched Mario Maker content since day 1! So many layers and so many efforts for long-term making are in a single troll level and it blows my mind every single time. I would also want to say all those creators are amazing people. I made a level and asked for help from KingBling, which was a superstar for me and they were so nice and kind I can't ingonre this side of these creators as well
This is so awesome! So glad multiplayer got acknowledged in it. It is so true that there has been some multiplayer trolling since the beginning of multiplayer. I remember seeing clips of "everyone gets the flag except the person who hits the on/off" only to have the three selfish players die and the kind player win. I can give a broad overview to fill in a few gaps on multiplayer trolling for those interested below... After seeing Carl's snow level that had the stun lock, I got an idea to use that at the end of a level and force players to crawl in slow motion- creating a photo finish. I tested this many times with Chichiri. I completed the level and then it just sat there never to be played. Chichiri messaged me 6+ months later when Juz decided to get a group together to play some troll/toxic levels. I sent the level to Juz. They were shocked to have an actual troll level designed for multiplayer. It was that play session of Juz that really got multiplayer trolling to happen. Soup had a troll level they played and the session went amazing (Juz's laugh is awesome!). I had stopped making levels and given up on trolling when Chichiri had messaged me. Now, I got back into building and created another level, and the level featured in the video (specifically for Juz). Juz never played them as he burned out on Mario Maker, but randomly in Dan's chat one day Carl showed up and they jumped in some of the multiplayer troll levels I had made. Following this moment, I connected with Trixtan, Defender, and Box to create a multiplayer troll guide. We discussed how to make a quality level that works for multiplayer. What psychology was present in players and even included contraptions to help. The principle mentioned in the video is key- simple trolls usually do not break and players are going fast enough they still miss things. Trixtan then held the only ever multiplayer trolling contest (I put in 5 entries...the same as all the others combined). Even though it is doable, most creators have not done much multiplayer. Sadly, getting enough testing to make sure everything works is near impossible. With that said, a few other creators have done some multiplayer (peregrine, Soup, Daftlife, and BOX). Also, shout out to all the testers who made any of these levels possible. They suffered through so many broken and impossible levels- RX7Man, Cannibal Turtle, Theorymon, Luqueto, Peregrine and Chichiri.
wow. You already had me with the title saying "INCOMPLETE history" and the length of the video being over 9 hours long. And then the video itself was just produced with such a high quality, I had to keep watching. (I took breaks inbetween, don't worry)
Awesome work. I remember discovering Carl's Mario Maker videos many years ago, and they are still something I also look forward to seeing in my feed. My personal favorite troll was not mentioned. I don't remember what level it was, but it's the one where everything is lit by POWs so it's not obvious that it's a dark level. The player runs and does a big jump and a pipe appears out of nowhere for an incredible forced entry. My jaw dropped when I first saw it and I thought it was a glitch. I also love the roller coaster of emotions that is the ending of "For My AusTROLLian Mates". My favorite level is Carl's Trash Can. It was great to revisit all these years of levels.
The one thing that would have perfected this video would've been some troll in the last 10-20 seconds or so, but I don't even know what that would look like. You can't tell me putting a joke ending towards the end of a nine-plus-hour documentary about a type of trolling would've been anything but incredible, though. Well done.
With regard to your comment on Nintendo banning glitch levels, I still would say that Nintendo is massively in the wrong, banning levels that have even minor glitches, even ones that one might assume are features such as the incredibly common launcher elevator and pipe stack from smm1. What’s worse is that a creator can get their account fully banned for putting out a glitched level. I honestly don’t think any even remotely influential person in the community would have an issue with it if these levels were just shadow banned (made impossible to find through means other than having the level code itself). While some people do take issue with the idea of Nintendo being anti-glitch at all, that was really never the issue. It was the overly harsh punishment they would lay out
I get where he's coming from though, in regards to the meta. If you want to "do anything", just go make romhacks. I don't disagree that Nintendo is still way too harsh. Imagine if they hired more developers to fix bugs instead of lawyers to sue people, what a wonderful world it would be!
@@jodysgamingchannel9480 I still don’t totally agree with that either tho tbh. While from a player-side perspective super glitched levels might seem identical to romhack level stuff, there’s still a massive gap between the two. And I’m my view there’s not much difference between utilizing certain glitches vs stretching certain features as far as they will go. For instance, from a player side perspective that isn’t super familiar with smm mechanics there’s probably no difference between broken track glitches and abuse of entity limits. And since the argument from level meta is exclusively a player/viewer-perspective one, there needs to be a line that you draw from what’s acceptable and what’s not with regards to something an average play might encounter in endless and get confused by. To me drawing that line the thing being a glitch rather than an exploit seems arbitrary. Modern cp3+ setups with red coins are entirely glitch free but will still confuse an average player who’s unfamiliar. In fact, although we don’t see it much in the meta, they can actually be used to make levels that are impossible to clear from checkpoint. To me that is FAR worse than anything an smm2 glitch can get you. When you start getting to level of smm1 with the black hole glitch I start to agree more that it might as well be a romhack, but even then it still feels as though players are just stretching the maker tool they’ve been given as far as they can manage and if that’s unrecognizable from glitchless gameplay than that could be just as much a testament to how far players can stretch the limits of this tool. There have been romhacks that are praised for doing things with their tools that would make them unrecognizable as a romhack and they tend to receive praise for stretching the limits of what’s possible in their own box, I don’t see why we can’t do the same for Mario maker. At the end of the day it’s basically a matter of taste, but one in which I feel the anti-glitch perspective is a bit arbitrary when considering how much you can already do without glitches that would be considered outrageous if done with glitches. You can literally make the flagpole disappear with a magikoopa. That’s a feature, but imagine if it were a bug, it would be considered game breaking
I think an origin thing you might be missing is the Patrick Klepek v Dan Rykert series, where Dan made specifically 'mean troll levels' for Patrick in 2015.
That was incredible. Thank you for putting in so much effort. This is one of the most comprehensive video game histories I've ever seen. I think there would be great value in supplementary updates as things evolve, and would definitely watch, if that were a thing you chose to do. Stellar work.
As a fellow troll lover that doesn’t own either Mario Makers, I’ve been trying my hand at troll levels in Levelhead, and most certainly making trolls is much harder than it looks. However, I feel like I’m slowly getting more of a grasp on the art and having new appreciation for it the more I try, and I’m happy to be a part of building a troll meta here in this game.
I can't even begin to watch this with it being 9 hours, it's kind of crazy another troll-related history video came out right around when yours did and it's 3 hours and IT seems longer than necessary. I only hope that your time and effort pays off, 9 hours of ANY history video must have taken weeks or maybe months
god I love ridiculously long video essays on niche topics, this was fantastic my experience with mario maker was entirely limited to getting the 3ds version, being upset that I had to unlock all the interesting stuff to build with through the "story" mode or whatever it was, getting stuck on one of the levels therein, and then never playing it again ._.
This is an amazing, comprehensive video of the troll and C/Larl history. It's amazing, I know I've seen most of Carl's videos over the years, but not all of them, yet I've seen each and every level (and world) featured in this video, with perhaps a few of the very early ones missing, and it brought so many memories and laughs 😆 This is a chunky video, it took me, no joke, over NINE HOURS to watch all of it! (it took me about 3 days of watching it in sections, which is over 9 hours. So...) Also, where's Carl's hard-lock? I mean, there were a lot of things that I thought of that weren't mentioned throughout the vid, but I think ending such a massive endeavor with Larl forcing people to close the game entirely is a must.
This is an extremally good video. You were too harsh on yourself throughout most of this. Its not just the length that makes it impressive, but you put in alot of reaserch and effort into making every moment enjoyable. Do you think you will ever make a video on the banned wagon? If not, ill still watch your videos.
Holy crap I made it into the video! But in a very subtle way… I got the first clear on a Seanhip puzzle back in the day, and my (real) name appears in the info Carl has at the top of the screen related to the level he’s playing. An hour into this, I have to say, amazing work. I can’t wait to get into the real troll levels :)
I think the earliest instances of troll levels in Mario Maker that I can think of were the infamous "evil Ross levels" that were basically featured day one on the Game Grumps channel. Difficult, rough around the edges, funny and filled to the brim with Kaizo blocks. Pretty much everyone knew about Ross's levels back in the day, which most likely inspired a lot of players to make (often hot garbage) troll levels of their own.
5h30 in, and this is so freaking cool. I’ve been watching Carl since the early Mario Maker 1 days, so to see these levels again feels almost nostalgic. So much has changed, makers have come and gone, but we can still all laugh at the simplistic beauty of a hidden block stopping someone right in their tracks. Can’t wait to finish this amazing history recap :)
58:45 While I do like CarlSagan42's reaction to beating 7 Troly peices, I definitely think GrandPooBear's is much better in this case. 6:18:35 I love Carl's evolution from "I'm gonna ban him" like when he was anti-softlocked in "The Buppening" to making and enjoying playing the most difficult, brutal and/or tedious anti-softlocks.
The best part of the ending, was when "Japanese Creators (I'm Sorry!)" flashed on screen. I KNOW THIS PAIN! Wish we could credit them... in some way, form or fashion. :salute:
I'm going to be watching purely to see if I'm in the video at all. OK fine that's not the only reason. This looks like a beast of a video tho, looking forward to watching it over the weekend lol.
My level made an appearance to explain MM1 fake-outs but I'm pretty sure that's it. You can always see if your in the final credits :-) I've watched the vid even though I probably missed some big chunks that interested me less (thank God for the chapter system)
5 and a half hours in, and I have so much admiration for the amount of time and care this must've taken you. Really great work! Edit: I finished the video and it's a masterpiece, good shit
In all reality, I have some critiques, but considering it took me a week to watch the video, I assume those are better warranted elsewhere Regardless of any critiques I would have, however, it's clear that you put an immense amount of work into this project, and I'm sure everyone that's come by appreciates it! ❤
Carl is definitely the most important individual in the troll community. He may not be the most influencial, but he showcased so much, and every time he creates, he revolves the whole community! I had a five days family travel and I started watching the video in the bus and finished it hours before coming back, so this particular travel will be always marked by this video. Thank you for your amazing job!
Wonderful video! If you have the time to answer a question, since you've seen so many levels, do you know the level/video that started the "Spike" meme? (SPIKE in big letters above a pit, with a different twist waiting at the bottom, such as the spike enemy, a spike top, a skewer, etc.) I've been trying to figure it out for months and I haven't found it.
For glitches that have entered the current Meta, there's the fake block glitch in Mario Maker 2 (fairly easy to pull off in creation too). As long as it's used sparingly, it's effective.
I'm mildly surprised you didn't go into Geek's Yeenis a bit more - especially with the complicated use of Entity Limit that makes what is effectively 10? checkpoints possible. maybe you did talk about Entity Limit though and I just forgot. some mentions about Super Wagon World also would have been nice as well (but might be understandable to be absent depending on how long you spent on editing this video). nevertheless, this is a pretty thorough documentary that I must commend you for the dedication and time spent into making this.
This is me 7 hours in on the video. I've been engaged the entire way time I have been watching. One of the best and most in-depth video essays I've ever seen. Well done, I am so excited to see any more videos that come out in this channel!
Finished this video over 2 days and I must say it’s probably one of my favorite videos of all time. I remember being fairly young and wanting a Wii U for Christmas. You know what bundle I got? The Mario Maker bundle. In fact Mario Maker was probably what made me want the Wii U so much in the first place. I seldom saw the troll side of Mario Maker until Mario Maker 2. Both of these games, with all their issues, gave me so many fond memories that can never be replaced, and I didn’t really know how deep-rooted that was. Even if I can’t recall specifics, that love for the game is still there. Thank you to the community and you for making this video.
Wow, I'm surprised that you don't have more subscribers. This video is excellent, in visuals, scripting, scope, and editing. I've never played Mario Maker and I dislike 2D platformers but I was mesmerized by this video and entertained for the entire runtime. Kudos! I wish you much success in your youtube career, you certainly deserve it! I'll definitely be sharing this video with my friends.
Took me about 2 weeks but I watched the whole vid and enjoyed every second of it! This is truly one of the most impressive videos on the entirety of RUclips with its sheer quality combined with the monstrous length. I’m looking forward to your future content! Keep it up ^^
really surprised that despite this video being 9 hours long, the banned wagon world doesn't get it's own section? so many of my favourite troll levels were made for it...
I have to admit, watching Carl during the Super Expert era I didn't understand why players enjoyed hot garbage levels; then I didn't understand why players enjoyed "gotcha" coin-flip puzzles until Seanhip2 started punishing players for taking obvious paths. Indeed, 1:28:08 is where modern trolling begins.
Just finished. I almost feel bad using a masterfully edited 9-hour documentary as background audio while I did work, but man was this a great listen. Thanks so much for this :D
I can't imagine how long this took to make. I really appreciate the effort you put into it. I'm about halfway through right now and I'm kind of shocked at the consistently high quality of editing and introspective writing. I feel like if I clicked on a random part of the video and watched for 15 minutes, the quality would be equal to if not greater than the average commentary video I watch.
Took me 8 days but watched it all! I am not a very big Carl fan, however how you did this is amazing. Such a trip down memory lane and a great SMM history lesson.
Awesome video! Kinda unfortunate you didn't include Super Mario Brothers - Frustration. That is the oldest troll I can remember and dates back to 2007. I bet the oldest trolls in super mario are older than that, but this one really got some spotlight.
Aside from what people have mentioned about Carl changing the game _again_ with The Year of the Guts, I’d be interested in your thoughts on one of my favorite phenomena of last year - the community experimenting with troll levels in other games, like VVVVVV, Baba Is You, Celeste, and Levelhead. Other noteworthy phenomena: the growing attention paid to the Japanese troll community by English-speakers, and of course the release of Super Wagon World with its own view of troll history and new levels of work put into the multimedia aspect begun with CarlMoney’s trailers. Incidentally, one term that I’ve seen used in the titles and descriptions for Japanese troll levels is 騙しコース, “damashi course” - which literally means “deception level”. You can see an example at 8:10:11 - the title says “hajimete no damashi course”, or “my first troll level”. EDIT: I lean to calling that troll “stand suc”, but “SMB2 suc” works too.
Also, I don’t know if anyone’s said this, but the roulette after the staircase anti in Carlsino isn’t quite 50% - Geek has an explanation video that shows how many question blocks there are and how many of them allow progression. Complicating the odds further, there’s a troll in the conveyor-bumper-POW room that Carl dodged on that first playthrough, which teleports you past the pink coin for a forced entry. (It hit him in his second playthrough, when he speedran it in 45 minutes. I posted reports in chat of which coins he’d acquired/saved during that run. Then we raided Shoujo. Good times.)
Interesting argument at 3:06:00 ish. I wonder how the Year of the Guts hardlock fits into your argument of 'no glitches'. In general, I do agree with you here that MM2 has a set of expectations that come with it, and that's what makes trolls within that paradigm more interesting than rom-hacks. The hardlock in YotG was so game-breaking WITHIN MM2 - i'm not sure where it falls on the scale of 'no glitches'. I'd really love to hear how you felt about it.
Spent 9 hours looking at the lizard in the background
This video transcends wanting to become a RUclipsr. A nine hour fully edited documentary means all you wanted was to make the video itself

I think I have a problem. lol
Was a fun trip down memory lane actually had forgotten about most of the levels. It was also fun to see the evolution of trolls.

"Something something knowledge checkpoint something something Outer Wilds"
Enough to make someone spit their drinks out in a comedically exaggerated way...
it's always great to hear people talk about the history of something that they're passionate about, and this comment is a letter of recommendation for the algorithm to start aggressively recommending this to every youtube user
half asleep from my nightly meds, but just finally finished the video. have to give massive appreciation for all the effort this video has, but with so many others mentioning research and appreciated inclusions, i *especially* love the animation throughout the video. i have to imagine even just the sitting hand, eye, and "head" animations took a lot of work and time to make.
it's crazy seeing such a well made entertaining video of this length, usually videos of great length sacrafice quality for quantity but I'm 2 and a half hours in and loving it
to this day nobody has made a frog suit getting over it level that is even more SIMPLE PLATFORMING
gonna make comments as I watch:
00:00 the galaxy ost fits so well and makes this intro much less boring.
did you die
@@RichConnerGMN idk i guess ill finish it today
also i made other comments,
Good video, on the defender guide I always think of the thought of the adage, you need to know the rules before you can break them.
Also funny when I hit the end of the video and history ends in 2022. It's crazy how far trolls keep going even now.
Not a lot beats the feeling of seeing someone stream your troll map and falling for your favorite troll.
I needed something to watch while watching the LOTR Trilogy, thanks man
3:16:14 oh hey that’s my level
Wow, now THAT's an amazing documentary. I will keep watching and re-watching this for a very long while. How have I not seen this yet?
This is honestly one of the coolest video essays I've ever seen. I wish you the best on your future endeavors my dude.
Well done.
dude, when i played the video, my jaw DROPPED when i saw you had good mic quality
I think an origin thing you might be missing is the Patrick Klepek v Dan Rykert series, where Dan made specifically 'mean troll levels' for Patrick in 2015.
no Japanese or really any asian country featured.
That was incredible. Thank you for putting in so much effort. This is one of the most comprehensive video game histories I've ever seen. I think there would be great value in supplementary updates as things evolve, and would definitely watch, if that were a thing you chose to do.
Stellar work.
that "the camera" at 3:32:05 got me good, that's such a good lil gag
His effort certainly pays off. How’s part 26 coming?
god I love ridiculously long video essays on niche topics, this was fantastic
my experience with mario maker was entirely limited to getting the 3ds version, being upset that I had to unlock all the interesting stuff to build with through the "story" mode or whatever it was, getting stuck on one of the levels therein, and then never playing it again ._.
TLDR : It's just a HISTORY OF CARL/LARL sagan42 playing TROLL.
This is an amazing, comprehensive video of the troll and C/Larl history. It's amazing, I know I've seen most of Carl's videos over the years, but not all of them, yet I've seen each and every level (and world) featured in this video, with perhaps a few of the very early ones missing, and it brought so many memories and laughs 😆
This is a chunky video, it took me, no joke, over NINE HOURS to watch all of it! (it took me about 3 days of watching it in sections, which is over 9 hours. So...)
Also, where's Carl's hard-lock? I mean, there were a lot of things that I thought of that weren't mentioned throughout the vid, but I think ending such a massive endeavor with Larl forcing people to close the game entirely is a must.
This is an extremally good video. You were too harsh on yourself throughout most of this. Its not just the length that makes it impressive, but you put in alot of reaserch and effort into making every moment enjoyable.
Do you think you will ever make a video on the banned wagon? If not, ill still watch your videos.
This is an amazing video. I'm only around 25 minutes through, but I'm loving it.
Thanks for giving me an oddly specific yet fascinating video to watch for an entire week.
I miss that info bar
:salute:
only watching for the lizard in the background idk what the fuck a mario maker is
I'm going to be watching purely to see if I'm in the video at all.
OK fine that's not the only reason. This looks like a beast of a video tho, looking forward to watching it over the weekend lol.
My level made an appearance to explain MM1 fake-outs but I'm pretty sure that's it. You can always see if your in the final credits :-)
I've watched the vid even though I probably missed some big chunks that interested me less (thank God for the chapter system)
The hbomberguy reference cracked me up. Amazing video!
5 and a half hours in, and I have so much admiration for the amount of time and care this must've taken you. Really great work!
Edit: I finished the video and it's a masterpiece, good shit
GrandPooBear's play of 7 Troly peices was the first troll level I ever saw, and still maybe my favourite Mario Maker moment ever, unbeatable
Omg yes, when he died to the podoboo and went through the entire level again made it beyond perfect
@@poiewhfopiewhfyou unlocked some memories, I need to watch that again, I can't believe that was the funniest shit ever back in the day.
@mauricioalonso2157 haha im glad
I've basically been wondering when someone would make this video. So awesome, thank you for the amazing amount of effort put into this.
10/10 An amazing summery of everything trolly that has come to be from the Mario Maker community
In all reality, I have some critiques, but considering it took me a week to watch the video, I assume those are better warranted elsewhere
Regardless of any critiques I would have, however, it's clear that you put an immense amount of work into this project, and I'm sure everyone that's come by appreciates it!
Broken track also sees somewhat regular use, such as throwing hyperspeed bombs to activate/destroy blocks.
280 subscriber RUclipsrs just casually dropping videos with thousands of times more work than RUclipsrs who have thousands if times more subscribers.
5:04:09 gotcha, i guess i gotta make a 9 hour vid on just one trolls history
Keep it up ^^
MASTERFUL editing, especially for the Macro/Micro section
"We're so close to the first troll levels" 1 hour 12 minutes in
Started watching the video little over a week ago and proud to say that now I’ve watched every single second of it, great work👏
I can't believe I just watched an over 9 hour video and enjoyed every second of it. Incredible
really surprised that despite this video being 9 hours long, the banned wagon world doesn't get it's own section? so many of my favourite troll levels were made for it...
An incredible video, proud to say i watched the whole thing with my full attention (took a week)
This is one of the best produced and most interesting videos ive ever seen, kept me hooked for the entire 9 hours
Okay I'll split this video into 9 parts, each consisting of 1h and watch one part per day because there's no way I can watch this in one sitting
incomplete? 9 hours? seems good enough for my standards
I'll be honest, that intro put me off a bit because of how long and somewhat unnecessary it was, but the actual video is amazing! Awesome work!
Loved it bro. Took me a couple weeks to get through but constantly looked forward to finding free time to load this up.
I can't imagine how long this took to make. I really appreciate the effort you put into it. I'm about halfway through right now and I'm kind of shocked at the consistently high quality of editing and introspective writing. I feel like if I clicked on a random part of the video and watched for 15 minutes, the quality would be equal to if not greater than the average commentary video I watch.
...yknow now that i think about it, "There is Only One Level" is basically built on a series of twice twicing the player
Took me 8 days but watched it all! I am not a very big Carl fan, however how you did this is amazing. Such a trip down memory lane and a great SMM history lesson.
Wow short form video is really taking off
Kids these days don't have the attention span for month-long videos anymore
Thank god, I just finished Infernal Rambling's video and didn't want to go to bed yet. This is perfect!
this is absolutely amazing, your dedication is incredible and your narration and editing is spot on!!
the use of the motion capture gloves and well rendered 3d hat, ect are something i havent seen before in this video genre, super cool!
Awesome video! Kinda unfortunate you didn't include Super Mario Brothers - Frustration. That is the oldest troll I can remember and dates back to 2007. I bet the oldest trolls in super mario are older than that, but this one really got some spotlight.
Oldest troll hack was The Lost Levels. 😂
Hahaha true xD@@GRNKRBY
2 hours in and if shano’s trilogy isn’t mentioned in this video I will riot
