I started sewing again, after spending a few years quilting and had no idea how to serge in the round. Thanks sooo much for this tutorial, you taught me how to serge in the round 2/21/23.
@@JSternDesigns they taught me to feed in the curve at an angle and I certainly didn’t ever think I could put the fabric under the needle this way! I always ended funny as well. I learnt so much from this. Thank you . ☺️
I just watched this, Jen, after searching 3-thread narrow in the round for a fiddly knit I’m trying to hem. It was very helpful! ❤ Love the aspect of the decorative thread in the upper looper! Thanks once again.
This video is absolutely wonderful!! I have been searching the internet for this life saving serging technique and you have just made my day. This is my most fav serging video - I can't thank you enough. I have been so upset with serging in the round (necklines, armholes, etc) - this technique is brilliant!!! You have explained it so well. THANK YOU!!
You are so welcome! I'm happy you found me! Keep me posted if you have any specific questions about working on your serger, I love doing Subscriber Q&A!
I’ve always struggled with start/stop stitch in the round. Following your tips, I have a perfect neat finish on my T-shirt. Thank you so much for this video.
Thanks for this clear and concise video. I’ve just inserted a ribbed neckband on a t-shirt for the first time SUCCESSFULLY! I used the three thread narrow and ‘wiggled’ at the end and it worked 😊. Thanks again.
Wow just wow! This looks amazing and so much prettier and better than the way I was shown.... now I'm going to go and find out how/if I can remove the cutter without opening up my machine .....
:) So sorry for the delayed response! Hope you figured out how to lower your blade... If you can't, you can position the edge slightly away from the knife as you overlap the start point.
Thank you so very much! I have always struggled with this. I was taught as someone else mentioned, that you should just veer off, but it looks horrible. Thanks again.!!
This is great...have never been shown how to do this properly. Would you recommend this for serging on neckbands? The three thread would be less bulky.
Do you have suggestions on a “start an stop in the round” version but in a faster production method? I surge dozens of squares daily and can’t come up with a solution. Having a second step of threading back through is too time consuming when I’m dealing with so many pieces repetitively. Trying to cut down on time and steps in other words.
When I finish square, I serge off the edges... You can "Production Sew" by serging down one edge, continuing onto the edge of the next square ... and continue until you've finished one edge on all your square... Then start the next edge, finishing them all... etc. Hope that helps!
Please could you tell me the name of this flat needle with which you pull the threads through the seam? I have never seen this in Austria... Thanks in advance! And thanks for this great tutorial!
Yes, if you can't lower the blade... slow it down and gently guide the finished edge away from the blade slightly as you overlap the start point. :) If you clip the looper threads, hit them with a little Fray Check to keep them from coming apart! Thanks for watching

This is great...have never been shown how to do this properly. Would you recommend this for serging on neckbands? The three thread would be less bulky.
Hi Jane, You can definitely use this technique using regular thread to serge the neckband on... I like a 3-Thread Narrow. to finish a neckline. :)
@@JSternDesigns I suppose that is because 3-Thread Narrow will create less bulky seam at the neckband. Right?
@@vicki3220 yes, and a little more stretchy too!

My squares are rounded so I don’t come off the ends, in one complete go around though.

Thank you Plookiss for chiming in with the answer... I'm so sorry I missed it!
I have an older machine and the blade does not lower. Do you have a suggestion for that situation?
Yes, if you can't lower the blade... slow it down and gently guide the finished edge away from the blade slightly as you overlap the start point. :) If you clip the looper threads, hit them with a little Fray Check to keep them from coming apart! Thanks for watching
Good tip. I always try to "veer off" at the end, and it looks terrible.
:) I did that for a long time too! (sometimes I still do when I'm in a hurry and the seam is in a place where no one will see it!)
Which machine do you have?
I am working on my Baby Lock Ovation Serger :) Thanks for watching
Is it the lower knife you lower?
After I cut off the tail at the start point, I put the knife down to overlap the start point without cutting the stitching. Hope that helps!
Wiggle, then chain off. Thank you! 😁
