This was obviously put together by a German. Renown had the longer range guns, and the British were not nearly as bad a shots as this seems to show. Yes, Scharnhorst had slightly better armor, but not enough to offset a hit from a 15" gun.
Actually she had less range on her 15 inch than the German 11 inch 33,500 yards to 40,000 yards. And I hardly consider 3 hits out of 230 shells fired to be accurate.

Well she out shot Scharnhorst and Gnisenau at the same time in bad weather and poor visibility. One on one, Renown would likely clobber her, though like most German heavy ships it would probably require toroedoes to finish off the flaming wreck because of her extreme durability.
None of the British 15 inch could reach the same range as the Scharnhorst class 11 inch. Maximum for those was 33,500 yards and Vanguards was 37,000 yards. The 11 inch was 40,000 yards. Plus with a speed advantage of only .5 knots, she won't be able to pick the range. She got lucky in the fact that the hits she took were from poor 11 inch shells. Same as the 7 hits Bismarck hit Prince of Wales with.

Radar is largely irrelevant given that both ships can clearly see each other and the radar of the time could only approximate range. 15" inch guns only best 11" guns if they have superior performance characteristics which the Renown's do not.
Eh? this fight happened in real life in a 1 v 2 with both Scharnhorst sisters fighting Renown in the middle of a storm. Renown won this interaction, forcing both ships to retreat after destroying one of Genisenaus forward turrets, while her 9-inch armour belt kept her safe from two hits from the German 11 inch shells.
Lot people here don’t know their naval history facts lol. Scharnhorst had slightly heavier broadside with a shorter reload time and had much better armor protection. In fact Scharnhorsts smaller caliber shells actually had a bit better penetration than Renown’s larger shells. IRL a one on one between these these ships would be intense but in the end Scharnhorst would be most likely to survive not without heavy damage dealt to it of course. Still I think she could survive a fight with Renown.
Bruh none of that is true, look at the action of Lofoton, Renown got more hits, then Scharnhorst and Gneisenau, all of Renown's hit's were damaging hits, like removing Gneisenau's range finder, whilst all 11 inch hits on Renown didn't penetrate or even explode. and the broadside weights are actually, 11,628 (Renown) and 6,552 (twins). Also only parts of Renown's belt can be penetrated, but Scharnhorst can stand to a 15 inch shell, but most times, these numbers don't mater.
Damage control parties and hits on an armoured deck make it highly unlikely that RENOWN would have been sunk. As I said she would have held out of range and sunk Scharnorst. Also ships dont just blithely steam past other as shown here and in reality RENOWN would have had the range after her first straddles.

Scharnhorst actually slightly outranges Renown and her shells have better penetration abilities. She also has a sizeable rate of fire advantage. Someone here even suggests that she has a slightly greater weight of broadside; which seems reasonable.
