    6. SOUNDBITE (Ukrainian) Ruslan, commander in the 43rd Artillery Brigade:
"The motivation is to expel the Katsaps (Russians) from our country. I do not want our children to live in this war. I want, like all people, to live peacefully, to go to my favourite job. This is the motivation to end this war as soon as possible."

The work doesn't get any less. We work, you could say, without rest. So no two days are alike. You always need to be ready to work day and night."

    STORYLINE:
Ukrainian forces defending the front-line town of Chasiv Yar in the east of the country say ongoing Russian attacks are disrupting troop rotations and supplies to some forces in the area.
The town, highly sought-after due to its strategic location and elevated position, lies to the west of neighbouring Bakhmut which was captured by Russia last year after a 10-month battle.
Ukraine is racing to stabilize parts of its frontline after badly needed military assistance was approved by the United States in April.
A months-long delay in the U.S. aid threw Ukraine’s military onto the defensive.
"Here, every day is different. One day there's some calm. Maybe it's the calm before the storm. The enemy is preparing, gathering strength. The next day, they go on the attack. The work doesn't get any less," said Oleksandr, a Ukrainian platoon commander of a self-propelled artillery battery of 43rd Artillery Brigade.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian president, announced the replacement late Monday of a top land forces commander in charge of the eastern defences.
Brig. Gen. Andriy Hnatov will replace Lt. Gen. Yuriy Sodol, Zelenskyy said in a video address.
Members of 43rd Artillery Brigade in Chasiv Yar were using Soviet-era Pion self-propelled artillery vehicles and reported that supplies of American ammunition had started to arrive.
"Every millimetre, every centimetre of our land is important to us. The further we let them (the Russians) pass, the worse it is for us," said commander of the howitzer, Ruslan.

Mykyta Ivanov, 22, dreams that his tank commander - who burned alive - returns with his skin charred, shouting: “Come on! We have to do something!”
