    ABOUT TIK 📝
    History isn’t as boring as some people think, and my goal is to get people talking about it. I also want to dispel the myths and distortions that ruin our perception of the past by asking a simple question - “But is this really the case?”. I have a 2:1 Degree in History and a passion for early 20th Century conflicts (mainly WW2). I’m therefore approaching this like I would an academic essay. Lots of sources, quotes, references and so on. Only the truth will do.

      Great interview, please do more on politics etc. Please do research on "Inflation", an economic phenomenon apparently but really is just a way for "Producers" (haves) to steal more money off the "Consumers" (have nots). I'll be honest, ideally I'd like to keep everything on one channel, but RUclips's algorithm doesn't like mixed-channels. So with this being a completely different style of content, it may not go with the rest of the videos. If I create a second channel, this sort of video, updates, and other behind the scenes type content could go on that, reserving this channel for the fully-sourced and referenced content.

      Drach seems to do OK with having interviews, food tastings, museum tours, 5 minute guides, battle analysis, Fun Fridays, Rum Ration, and day long Q&A sessions. Maybe there is a trick to branding/presenting the channel so that the Evil Algorithm overlooks mixed content and just considers it all of a (broad) kind?

    • @henleinkosh2613
      @henleinkosh2613 8 месяцев назад +4

      @@RonOhio The thing Drach has is consistency in theme, no matter how tangential it might be, his videos are always (or close enough to it) about naval history, where TIK already have several categories that he operates in like military history, political history, and political theory, and while those categories of course are connected, they are much harder to encompass with a single narrow term that the youtube algorithm will actually like.

      @@TheImperatorKnightPlease do another of this type, meaning organic, sincere and casual. Yesterday, I watched a recent video by Peter Boghossian, with Carl Benjamin (Sargon of Akkad) and Nina Power. Though the public setting is surely less appealing to you personally security, rightly so imo, I noted the importance of the backdrop and think it was excellent. This isn’t to say that you need be outside (dress warm if you do, so that your thinking isn’t influenced by the elements), only that the setting can affect you and the audience. Sit in front of a fireplace or something idk.
      Personally, per content, the North Africa, Sicily, Italy (grandfather fought there), Normandy (though tons has been done, so I’d at least suggest a novel approach or lesser known stories/questions) and Market Garden all sound great and should find interest, so many people already having varied levels of knowledge and opinions!
      Idk if something more niche is as advisable, or perhaps the opposite is true, but TONS of WWII stories exist which might interest some, even certain ones that have either been covered by a documentary or a movie. Here’s a few, quotes denoting a movie title:
      Operation Fortitude
      “Heroes of Telemark”
      The Enigma/Bletchley Park/Alan Turing/“U-571”
      Slapping incident per Patton
      Saipan ‘Censor-cide Cliff’
      The USS Indianapolis/“Jaws”, the incredible story of its captain, McVeigh, his court martial and subsequent censor-cide

    As a casual WW2 interest person I first found Tik on my recommended feed, but it was Tiks Public vs Private video that blew my mind and what I thought I knew was completely wrong, eg public corporations were capitalist.
    Thanks Tik for the hard work you put in I hope you keep it up for you have become a beacon of truth for me.

    • @colonel__klink7548
      @colonel__klink7548 8 месяцев назад

      Think a bit longer on it. If everything other than sole proprietorship is "public" and therefore not capitalism then all human progress happened under public activity and not capitalism. Even under ancient societies great projects weren't usually completed by a single atomic family, they were usually completed by alliances between several families. Basically the era's equivalent of corporations. In fact... TIK even alludes to this discussing how cities were formed from several tribes or families. You can break this down, usually it's two or more tribes that historically settled to form a city, those tribes being formed out of several families. So all the big events are "public." When you get to industrialization and mass production well, joint stock corporations to accrue the financing, the capital, state support of the industry all of it "public." So the definition isn't really all that useful.
      Capitalism really isn't when "one person does something alone." It's more about the nature of why we produce and how we organize money. Ie money's debt aspect is prime whereas 600 years ago money's commodity aspect was it's most defining characteristic.

    • @vandalcreed
      @vandalcreed 8 месяцев назад

      @@colonel__klink7548 sure but all great ideas start with the individual, and we've seen plenty of historical evidence of keeping ideas suppressed by the public. As they say the individual can live without the state but the state cannot exist without the individual.

    • @colonel__klink7548
      @colonel__klink7548 8 месяцев назад

      @vandalcreed A group doesn't have a shared mind, therefore a group doesn't come up with an idea. You're very valid with that point. However, a bit of clarification, coming up with most of the economically productive ideas is not what the leadership class comes up with. We are inundated with the glories of the great CEO and business leader but the CEO of Bell Labs or Intel didn't come up with the solution to the problem the incompatible chemistry of copper conductive material in silicon semiconductors. (Computer chips till like... 2000 were made with aluminum as it played nice with the silicon. Copper was an incredible challenge that needed to be met to allow smaller transistors on the chip and improve processor efficiency. ) These innovations are almost always developed by employees. Non leaders. The people who aren't hailed as celebrities, the people who don't actually accrue billions of dollars in wealth. The only people who cheer them on are academics who have read their papers off the Harvard website.
      And the interesting thing is that those people usually come up with those ideas thanks to PUBLIC discussions through the academic processes through the public research university system. We hail google, but all the technologies that actually make this system possible were developed by individuals who really did not financially benefit from it.
      What this is to say is the idea that we are rewarding those who most contribute to our society is really false. Where I come into contest with communists is that I know that leadership is actually needed and useful. The difference between competent leaders who are able to identify competence, set goals, motivate and *get the hell out of the way* and incompetent leaders or none at all is night and day. However our system is really not designed to reward hard work (a garbage man works harder than most of us.) Nor does it even reward great ideas the best. It doesn't even reward leaders the best. Outside of a figure like Musk (who was given 53BN worth of stock as a reward for figuring out how to inflate stock evaluation, not actually improve the company's bottom line) most of the proceeds of everyone's work goes to financiers. Essentially "capital." It goes to people who provided the seed material, not the great idea man.
      Again those people deserve compensation, unlike what communists say. My personal politics is more about tweaking distribution.

Of all the armchair historians on RUclips I find you to be the most convincing. No historian has a monopoly on truth because all sources can be compromised, everyone adds a degree of subjectivity regardless of their desire for objectivity and unless you're the eye-witness every account has to be regarded as potentially flawed. In honesty, you could make it a separate series on the main channel '' a friendly chat with TIK '' '' episode 1'' because I've seen RUclipsrs posting on secondary channels, and it works fine and some even encourage it, but the viewing stats sometimes show that having multiple types of content have better results in the long term, per example, what I have come to conclude is that subscriber count doesn't mean anything, like I've seen 1 mil+ channels only getting 50k+ views, so it's more based if people want to watch it or not, yes the genre has to be still history based otherwise it's clashing with each other and the viewer base mixes too much. But in the end if people scream with pitchforks that there is need for a second channel to be made then follow the masses

      I do agree that not everything has to be super-researched and right, and I agree that authenticity is important. However, I think, given the nature of the topics we're covering (WW2, Mr H etc) it would be very easy to mess up and accidentally say the wrong thing. We both made really bad slips of the tongues when recording this video, and that's why there's some cuts. Despite trying to keep his anonymity, I accidentally said Axiom's real name several times. This is why I don't think livestreams are an option for me/us.

And I really want you to be on podcasts like Brokenomics with Dan and the History Guy. Trust me, it won't be as bad as you think. The guys from Friday Night Tights know that every word they say gets scrutinized by their haters and that they can and will get clipped and be used against. They seem to do fine. Hell, your own carefully scripted videos already get clipped out of context by your haters. Haters gonna hate. But if you want to reach more viewers you have to be willing to put yourself out there. Just be you, we will have your back, and let the haters hate.

    This would definitely be a good thing for a Second Channel that you can put up when you're feeling burnt out or need something to put up while working on a big project. TIKConversations maybe? And then just put a notification in the community tab so people subscribed to the main channel can see it.
    Maybe also polls on topics that'd be great.

    Happy New Year Lewis!
    I enjoy your Q&As and more laid back content just as much as fully insightful one. As for second channel, I personally think it is much better to split sourced vs. laid back for a couple of reasons.
    People who are here more for you, like to watch any type of your content because they know it’s gonna be interesting. So no matter 1st or 2nd channel they are gonna be there.
    For those who are for more general and algorithm hitting stuff, it might throw them off when you come out with “sub-par” content.
    As for algorithm itself, your more “chill” videos can still do really well even on second channel if they do hit the algorithm with the title and thumbnail. There are plenty of channels out there where secondary channels sometimes do better than main ones. Obviously it depends on the content but as a person who did somewhat well with RUclips, that would be my way to go. Keep the main channel for what it’s “known for” and 2nd for those who want the extra info, trivial or not.
    Good luck!

    Tik, i am genuinely sorry for all the hate you get. Im not one of those ppl but i just get so frustrated with the tribalism and ignorance of ppl. I think you present your arguments very well, you do your homework and present your findings in a pretty straightforward way. It just really annoys me that a man trying to educate ppl gets treated like a douchebag. Know that some of us really appreciate what you do Tik and will continue to support you.
    PS: i wouldn't worry so much about Socialists hating on you Tik. Nothing seems to please those ppl. They dont seem to function within reality very well. I was more liberal when i was younger and then i got older and started realizing i wanted to keep the fruits of my labour and i want the government less involved in my day to day life. All those socialists policies seem great when you dont have anything but once you actually build something you realize that you want to keep what your entitled to as you built it and you dont want big brother to take that away from you.

    Stuff I never knew I needed, please continue doing these. It helps me to clash with my own opinion and have clearer opinion on the topic.
    That being said I disagree with completely free market or lack of state influence into the situation. Especially looking at big pharma or oil concerns. Country is supposed to think and act as a whole (otherwise there would be massive differences like with post divided germany, places with more income resources etc.) That being said things like police or schools are taken as granted, while they're socialist imo. I am advocate of state funded health care (even if it sucks, it better than not having it at all) etc. etc...
    I think the main problem is to implement system with least "abusable" and managing responsibility of people in charge, which probably can't be solved.
    This love to hear the debate going, just like you with your videos.
    You won't save the world, but at least few people, which will make this place more sufferable.
    My teacher once told me that we must read book to learn how to live, I think same thing applies to history.
    Anyway, sorry for all possible mistakes, hope my message is readable enough.

    I agree we need entrepreneurs and we can't over tax them or they will go elsewhere but we need a minimum wage to prevent genuine hardship in a wealthy country. We can't have totally unregulated capitalism as we will have huge wealth disparities, a degraded environment and ultimately an unstable society. We need a safety net for the most vulnerable in our society and good systems to ensure there is not excessive benefit fraud.

    Putting effort in and getting rewarded for adding to society is fine BUT only if it is universally applied and there's the rub. Companies take insane risks expecting huge rewards which don't get shared in any meaningful way, however when they destroy the company they expect government handouts, tax credits to spend less on the wage bill, a steady supply of educated labour, road infrastructure, and so on. However mechanisms have been created to allow these companies to avoid paying most of the tax that is needed to provide the business environment. Increasing automation means less workers are needed, without an income they have less money to spend so demand drops, less labour and on and on. As we were lectured neither communism nor free market systems work, never have and never will. When I work out the answer I'll let everybody know - I may be some time.
    I like this chat though, very thoughtful and Axiommaybe is right to work with it, a very good friend to have.

    Comic Sans is my favourite font! Great chat, and I really like the intellectual honesty being shown. Material reality is one thing that amazes me, especially given it is testable. Call me a doubting Tomas, I have always been, so it is great to see the validation and verification of claims. Measuring the mass of the soul was my goal, which is why I’ve done the university and postgraduate work to learn more as a physicist specialising in medicine and biology. I have a different perspective on the value of the university level education, perhaps being from the physical sciences, but I see your points on the assessment methodology used to rank students. Thank you for the chat, a separate channel that I can put notifications on would be good.

    Brilliant video, and again I learned something new.
    On the subject of Stalingrad. I was hoping that Lewis would actually complete what was obvious an insane task. I have a hard time believing someone will be able to surpass that task. And it is also important to reach your own goal in order to not fall apart. I believe the TIK channel could easily go down the drain if stalingrad wasn't completed.
    On the subject of Hitlers socialism: This is a very good video and Lewis has done everything correct. The opposite side must show how the evidence Lewis has put forward is bad in order to make a claim it is wrong. They have not done so and are therefor in the wrong. I would encourage Lewis to make more such videos because it helps us(we normies) to sort out the evidence and straighten our understanding of the subject and the world around us. It is a video I revisit now and then because details keeps falling out of my brain. And the references, it is so important. Lewis points to many sources, and I can look them up and verify that the quote is correct. And often I read more of the source and can see that the quote it not taken out of context (which I cannot say for the opposite side). More people should do what Lewis is doing in my opinion.
