Lots of those reasons are why my wife and I chose Bucerias to retire and move to full time.
Ah Bucerias, I miss Marisos Villareal, Tuc, the market at La Cruz and hanging out on the beach in San Pancho. I can't wait for more videos.

This is great! I’ve been struggling to find information for selecting a location to move to Mexico with a one and 3 year old. Almost everything is for young digital nomads or retirees. So happy to have found your channel.
Thnx for such an honest and in-depth video. I agree with you both! I think Bucerias is a hidden gem. You made a very bold but also savvy move! I grew up near Laguna Beach, CA and was spoiled with the climate/weather & high quality beaches. I'm self-employed in real estate and though I miss where I grew up, it is so insanely crowded and expensive, I only really go back to see friends & family. I currently have a wonderful home in Lake Chapala I bought at the end of 2018 & I chose it strategically b/c it is near a big airport & desirable city & the fact I had friends there already. Infrastructure and some level of expat network and convenience was also important. (I actually started considering it in 2014 but it took me about 4 years to pull the trigger.) It has been sound investment-wise, for sure. After renting it for several years and now being here full time & central, I can't wait to finally travel around & explore. Already, I am noticing the weather does get hot at the Lake in dry season and I really miss the BEACH!! Also, I am quite a bit younger than the average age for expats there - lol! I am searching also for my parents & siblings who are considering alternatives to insane California beach community prices & crowding. 4-8 years ago, they thought I was loco for considering Mexico. Given what is happening now in the U.S., they are definitely changing their attitude! I love Mexico so much! Not without its problems of course, but...wonderful people and culture! And nature! And in many ways, reminds me of how life used to be, before it all got so complicated. You're giving your children such an incredible experience. Glad to hear you're enjoying it so much. Can't wait to check it out!

Glad you made the move and are enjoying your life in Bucerias. I live in the USA right now and can’t wait to retire and go back to my home state of Nayarit. Just a little thought, when you refer to the United States of America simply as America it implies America is just the United States. America is a whole Continent, We Mexicans and everyone south of Mexico consider ourselves “Americans”, I have noticed here in the United States is very common that United States Citizens call themselves “Americans, but all over Latinoamerica people considers rude when American Citizen call themselves The USA America as if the rest of the continent belongs to another Continent. We consider ourselves Citizens of our own Countries but we consider ourselves Americans also.

I just took Lo De Marcos and its surrounding towns off my list due to the unreliable internet. I thought Bucerias would be too close to PV, but it sounds like you're able to enjoy a peaceful life without all the city madness, the very thing I'm seeking.
You're the first people i've heard mention things that are also a priority for me: internet speed, proximity to a major airport, time zone relative to family, access to a large city and its amenities.

Be cautious about eliminating options based on someone else's experience. My best advice would be to only sign a short term contract at first and explore for yourself in that time. The internet in a small town may be adequate for you. Just confirm the internet speed before you book if you have a certain minimum requirement.

My friend juuuust came back from Lo de Marcos. He loved it! Besides internet, what were your impressions? Also keep in mind, infrastructure is changing and improving in MEX pretty quickly. I bought my house in Lake Chapala area 3.5 years ago. Initially wifi was dropping constantly. Now, NO PROBLEMO. And I'm up on a hill in a small village with a church from the 1500s and sheep and horses behind me! ;) (I use TelMex.) I'm American & used to obnoxiously good high speed and work from home. I actually prefer Lo Fi environments in general but in a few short years things are definitely sufficient for my needs without feeling like it's too much EMFs and concrete jungle-wise. ;))
They are wise & correct in saying there's no really good way to know but visiting and trying things out for yourself. You can have all the criteria in the world but how you vibe & feel in a place is also very important & should not be discounted. Sometimes, there is no way to know but just to check it out in person. @@MsSpecialK29 there is a LOT of development down along the beach. Fortunately we chose to live on the other side of the highway about 1.5 miles from the beach and love our neighborhood. There are approximately 20 homes with a mix of Mexican nationals, Canadians and a few former U.S. residents.
Whats the best place to live in Bucerias?
@@CesarLeon Like music or food, no one answer fits every person. For instance, we prioritized privacy, a large garden and storage space over being next to the ocean. It works perfectly for us but might not be perfect for you!

@@suburbanfamily we enjoyed the area a lot. Bucerias was a favorite. Overall busier than expected and growing. Might come back in summer to see how hot and humid that it really is.

@@robinshipp9264 I would book something for a few months so you can look around and find an area and a place you love! We booked just for one month so we had time to look. You can join rental groups on Facebook, input “bucerias rent” or other cities. Hope that helps!

It’s certainly a possibility. That’s one of the reasons we signed a rental contract for less than 12 months.

Our place has a pool as well. We go to the beach here in Cabo, go into the water but don't swim persay.
The water is cold and to get exercise, well I'm not an Olympic swimmer haha to keep up with the current and waves! Would rather in the pool!
My husband works from home and Intranet is key! The speed up and down muy imprtante!!
We finally just gave in and had our own system( box) put in and pay for it monthly at the Oxxo.
We also got our own phone here as well, if not for anything else but to have WiFi where ever we go. We have been around town and some businesses just have the worst WiFi for Christian to be connected. If not connected, his work would have to keep him inside and I didn't like that.
We live in a two bed condo by a hotel called the cape. It has been built just within the last two years so fairly new.
We live cheaper in an older hotel they have converted to long term rentals. We only heard about them through word of mouth a few years ago and have been staying here on and off for three years.
We normally travel in our truck camper now but since last year was unable to come down with it so we had to rent this season.
Hoping next September to be able to bring it down to cabo again.

It been a blast in this life style and we are soooo excited to finally be able to jump to the mainland!
We did have friends staying there that is also why it made our decision easier👍

Just found your show, look forward to following the adventure. We love Bucerias and are ready to start spending months not just a week or two. Interested in the rental process from locating listings to setting up utilities. Direct contact with owner vs realtor. Negotiating price on short term long term. We just returned to Colorado last week from Bucerias. Very troubling how the Pandemic is effecting tourism in Mexico. Will be watching you spread the beauty of Banderas Bay.

The condo we rented has no ac, but is on the 4th floor near the beach. Will ocean breeze be enough to stay comfortable in jan/feb? or, should I look for alternative with ac? thanks

Thank you for watching and subscribing! We are renting because it offers us flexibility. (We plan to do a House Hunters style episode in the future). We're currently in a coto in north Bucerias called Los Amores.

In the month or so we've been here there have been one or two flickers of power loss, and another time where it was out for maybe 5 minutes. The most annoying part was having to reset all the clocks.

So many questions. Did you look into La Cruz de Huanacaxtle to live. Are you renting, or did you purchase? Did you work with a realtor, lawyer, immigration advisor etc?
Rapid fire answers: La Cruz is cool, but didn't have anything available that was the right fit for us, renting, no realtor or lawyer, but had some assistance with temp. residency and TIP extension in Mexico.
I swim in the ocean in La Cruz everyday. Chlorine free and way better than a swimming pool. Other than that, great video guys
Hello, my family and I are moving to La Paz this summer. In your video, you mentioned that PV was a little outside your budget; I was wondering if you would be willing to share your budget range so I can get a better idea of cost of living there in Bucerias. Thanks!
We plan to do a full budget video, but our goal was $1000-1400 USD/month for rent. Luckily, we ended up on the lower end of that range. We've never been to La Paz, and it might be a great place for you, but I wanted to be near some surf spots.

We have relocated to Nuevo Vallarta. Rents have gone up slightly for 12 month contracts, but not as high as home prices and short term rentals.
Enjoyed your video. How much cheaper is Bucerias than PV? (20%? more than that?)
It's a difficult comparison to make. For us it was mostly the availability of the size of place that we needed. In higher density areas they tend to build studios-2 bedroom units to maximize profit/square meter, which means that 3 bedroom units are difficult to find.

You should be able to find something similar to ours for 20-25,000MXN/month based on a 12 month lease agreement.

Looking for advice. I’m coming for the month of February and I really didn’t want to deal with Airbnb. So I’m talking to a young lady with “Paradise Houses -PV. The month will be 20m but for now it will be 30m. 10m deposit that I’ll get back. (Is this common?) now I’m ready to send 15M and she sends me a picture ID of her administer and some banking numbers with El Bancomer el Banco. Then she said I can ask my bank or go wester union. Put her name on it and she’ll give it to her administrator.

In Bucerias the options are mostly limited to Terralta, Los Amores, and Los Arroyos Verdes. Though it may not be difficult for some to figure out, we are trying not to broadcast our exact location for security reasons.

@@NatureGirl941 There are very few roof decks in Terralta. They were not built with them originally, so any that you find were added later by the owners. I'll keep an eye out, but you're target is maybe only a dozen or so possible units, so it will be very difficult to find what you seek.

It varies depending on what your requirements are. I think 80-240mxn/hour seems to be the going rate. And may vary even more. Keep in mind that most people want a consistent work schedule and income. We have a friend with trouble finding occasional help.
Have you guys heard anything about the public schools in Bucerias?
We have not. Based on the experience of my mother (a teacher in California) students from Mexico have very little problems keeping up with the material (language barrier aside). The public school curriculum is quite robust.

I don't know what it is like from the performer view, but there are many bars and restaurants with live music in Bucerias.

That’s a tough one to answer because there are a lot of factors. You can find places as low as 10,000 MXN pesos/month. Maybe even less. Of course, they can go up from there.

We don't have direct experience buying diapers in Mexico, but I would imagine that Mega or La Comer will have them. And if you buy too many I think that Manos de Amor would love the donation.

I'm curious!!! I'm looking for a place where my husband who doesn't speak Spanish would feel comfortable. He is always around Latino people because of me and he likes the sense of community even if he can not understand the language. We want to move near to the ocean but have a place to grow vegetables and chickens... Small town to connect with locals and have our grandkids visiting...
Bucerias might be worth your consideration. Your desire for chickens will probably exclude you from a coto, but your husband would probably do ok without spanish here and there does seem to be a small town vibe for connecting with locals.
Sooo many people speak English in Bucerías, even in the barrios (the inland side of hwy 200), plus the cost of living is lower there. We just spent 7 months living in a 2br 2.5 bath townhouse ($750/mo) on Estaciones, very near to where Bucerías starts becoming rural. The house was surrounded by iron gates, and we felt very safe in general, bc the neighbors all introduced themselves right away. Everyone knew about the new gringos in the neighborhood, and we felt watched after. Also, we started our Spanish studies while we were there, so people were delighted to help us practice 🥰😍💖

whats the internet speed in Bucerias
It can depend on where you are and DSL vs. Fiber Optic. When we first arrived we had DSL with 10 Down and less than 1 up. It was upgraded to 20 down and 10 up, which we consider our absolute minimum requirement. We currently have 50 down and 20 up, which is comfortable for us.

@@lafleiche You have to make sure you have a Fiber connection, DSL won't do it. Then you have to make sure your Telmex plan is at the right level. Finally, make sure you have a good router. (we brought our mesh router system from the US).

Bucerias is really nice, have you tried Adriano’s restaurant just across the town’s main square? To me , they have some of the best food in the area and fair prices. The place is not fancy but it’s worth the visit. Enjoy.

Could you please give the names of a couple gated communities in Bucerias? Or is it possible to chat with you privately. I would like to find out more about the gates communities. What area are they mainly in? I Just came back from Bucerias and thinking of coming back to stay for several months.
In Bucerias you will find Los Arboles, Los Amores (1 and 2), Terralta (1, 2, and 3), Quadrant, Los Mangos, and Los Arroyos Verdes. In addition, many condo buildings will have their own 24 hour security. There are also many, many more gated communities nearby in Mezcales and Nuevo Vallarta.

I was enjoying this video until your true self came out. FYI, America is all the way from Canada to Tierra del Fuego. Therefore, Mexico is in America. If you are going to remain in Mexico, you need to re-think about what you think you know about your selves. FYI, again, many citicens of Mexico will find you morbidly offensive when you refer to yourselves as americans, or when you refer to the U.S. as America. I am one of these Citizens who finds you offensive. I inform you that from now on, I will use this video to demonstrate to my students that even today, when You U.S. people move to Mexico continue to take for yourselves things that are not yours to begin with. You need to leave your amerikan mentality back in the U.S.

I encounter Mexicans who refer to people from the USA as Americans. Would you chastise them so sternly?
I know zero Canadians or Mexicans or Brazilians who would appreciate being referred to as simply Americans.
@@sioux4noff Bingo.!. What you point out here is exactly what is problematic to many of us in the Americas. Let me give you a couple of examples : 1) on 6/14/1919 congress passed a law which gave women (U S citizens) the right to vote. Did you know that it was only last year that this law was ratified (19 amendment). WE are talking decades of insult and dehumanization of women in the U.S.A. 2) President Franklin incarcerated Japanese (USA citizens) from 1942 to 1945, just because some powerful people decided that this action was the right thing to do. Japanese (USA citizens) were striped off their own citizenship rights, identity/nationality. Many times, people in power decide that something is right/wrong, and then they teach people (indoctrinate) people to believe that these thoughts, actions. and beliefs are justified and right. So, just like Walmart, Starbucks, Hollywood, etc made it to the Americas; also, the bombardment of U.S. propaganda, way of life, and U.S. spoken language arrived, too. A lot of people in power count on historical/geopolitical forgetfulness. As you mention above, some people in the Americas will refer to U S citizens as "americans." Don't be a fool, though, They do that because that is what they have been taught, (guess by whom?) "BY USA media/propaganda! You can be reassured that people in the Americas will refuse/reject the possibility of referring to U S citizens as americans when reminded of whom they are, and of what belongs to them, as well. Further more, people in the Americas will not refer to US citizens as americans when they become aware of the "how the USA took the name of an entire continent just for it self, and just because they could. At present, in Mexico there is a president who happens to be a historian; same thing can be seen in many other countries in the Americas. I encourage you to read a bit more, and if possible become cultural aware,. If you are a kind/fair person, you know that you would not want me to suddenly appear before yourself, and just because I can, rob you of your name. Your name is part of your personhood/identity. It is not ok to rob people of their identity.
