@@DanteToska I don't know what exactly you're referring to, considering the founders of The Internet Archive oppose censorship, and have fought with courts over their decision and preference not to censor the contents on their site, including going dark in response to the old SOPA and PIPA acts of 2012. The only times they remove any such content is if it is content that is actively protected by the DMCA on legitimate copyright grounds, and has the potential to take away revenue from the copyright holders. Also, the few times they've removed archives in the Wayback Machine is if it provides a potential for accidental phishing. You're upset about censorship at the groups opposing censorship, that's backwards to me.
I wonder if 1996 is simply too early - I find that the archives made a few years later tend to be more complete. The Internet Archive only started archiving websites that year so I imagine they must have improved their scraping process over time.

Technically the Old Net does have ads, but they take the form of 90's website add buttons, and they actually send you to other old websites. It doesn't make sense that there paid though, since some of them actually are his projects.
I feel sorry for kids in the 2100s when they use this website to see the current RUclips. They’re gonna be like: “damn those were some sensitive people back in the day”
Is there only the one port? It seems like it would be cool to have the port number be used to represent the year you want to browse (so, port 2001 would retrieve pages from 2001, and so on). They just need to set up a proxy on about a dozen ports and they'd be good to go.
I'm looking into it. My guess is it's too taxing / processor intensive to run it for multiple users at the same time. I tried offering something like this before using a similar product called WRP (Web Render Proxy) and it just wouldn't fly.
It would be a shame if the proxy is limited to 1996. I'll have to see if changing the port to a different year will work. I guess the 'search engine' might work around it a bit.
This needs a proper web browser plug-in so that you can visit any website using any desired year via dropdown on various web browses, old and new. Bonus points if they could figure out how to use the Tor protocol for the plug-in.
Most of the time the reason you can't see new websites on old browsers is due to HTTPS. The old browsers don't support the newer protocols and are rejected.

As much as I'd love to, The Internet Archive tends to censor things a lot and it's very annoying

That's only for 1996 since that's when the archive was founded. Years like 1999 work great.
