Checking in as one of the few who will NOT complain about the changes from the books. I'm ok with most of the characters that they've cut out. Keep doing your thing HBO!
I don't mind the show breaking from the books as long as they can live up to the quality of the book's writing. If anything it's a good thing because it means everyone is on the same level, no one who has read the books can say to the non-book readers with confidence what will happen next.
Noel Aranda It's not a problem they cut characters.... IMO if they wanted to finish in 7 seasons they should have cut completely both Dorne and the Iron Islands and keep the characters they already have. I mean use the Riverlands, why did they put in in season 2 and 3 so many characters there and then drop them??? Looking back it now looks like such a huge waste of time... But hey, they decided to keep Dorne, alright... Seville is beautiful. But than they kept all the unimportant characters, but they took out the only one that really matters in the books: Arianne. Weird :)
bakfiets imam And how many seconds of screentime did they get? Except for Obara's awkwardly written speech, almost nothing. People are judging way too quickly.
bakfiets imam So far the show has done very bad job with Dorne. I was very happy with Oberyn in season 4, but whoa boy did they screw it up in season 5. It's so bad compared to the source material. This is what I was afraid of when they decided to not follow the books.
Fun fact: Alexander Siddig (Doran Martell) and Keisha Castle-Hughes played the Archangel Gabriel and the Virgin Mary in the 2006 movie "The Nativity Story" 'Mance Rayder' (Ciaran Hinds) was also in "The Nativity Story"
wyl Kan Yes, I expect him to die in the next episode... it doesn't matter, they won't send Sam to Oldtown. Why would they?, why would the Night's Watch really need a maester in the show?I doubt there's something so monumentally important in Oldtown so that they would create a new setting just for it. Not to mention that they don't have Euron in the show, they don't have Willas Tyrell, not even Alleras, so none of the players there. If they were going to introduce Oldtown they would have put in a mention of Sarella....
Vlad Bayard I agree, i don't have anything to base my theory on except Sam's conversation with Gilly and Stannis last episode and pure speculation. I guess we just have to wait and see.
The source material may have been completely butchered this season and i hate them for it, but credit to them, the sets and costumes do look absolutely stunning!
Mr. M Book 4&5 deserves to be butchered. Just imagine having to put up witha whole season of Brienne aimlessly wandering, Tyrion on a boat with Penny and Dany "ruling" Harzoos.
wyl Kan Most of Brienne and Tryions chapters were world building. Are you actually trying to say the Jamie , Arianna ,Cersei ,Tryion and Sansa story arcs haven't been butchered in this season ? Aswell as it being bad they completely cut the greyjoy and Young/old Griff storylines ?
wyl Kan well i would rather see the intended story which i love, brought to life. Not the mess they've come up with! So can you honestly say that you think the show's versions of the three story-lines that you just mentioned are better than what is supposed to happen?
Mr. M Brienne's chapters were shit at the beginning, when she met that guy (forgot his name) in the hotel, and showed her fighting for her life and getting captured by Stoneheart, THAT'S when it got good again, and they could have easily cut the fat. The Tyrion and Young Griff revelation was one of the biggest holy shit moments in the book, although I could have done without Penny. And Dany's shit storyline is still being brought to the screen just because it's Dany, and they killed off the one guy that made it entertaining.
banethesithari Sansa barely had any story unless you consider babysitting Sweetrobin a worthy plotline for television. Cersei and Tyrion's story arc haven't changed luch except with necessary deviations to fit the medium and to avoid overflooding the cast with minor characters. fAegon is the cheaptest plot twist in the whole series. It's confusing, overcomplicated and too late in the story to be of any relevance. I'm sad Arianne didn't make it, but without the Griffs she's not that imporatnt. I don't know why i should be mad since i'm going to read about her in the next book.
wyl Kan Uh... I don't disagree with you there, but fans are pissed because they are deviating from what got them where they are now, the books, everything they have showed in this video is in the books, it's the Northern story line that has gone off the rails, but between you and me I stopped caring, it amazes at what they have done though, D&D have an amazing crew with them, I'll just assume this is an alternate universe of Westeros lol
MadCrainProductions the books that got them there were the first trilogy. Sadly after that, the series took a serious dip in quality that thankfully the show runners have noticed.
wyl Kan The storylines in 4 and 5 were great if they cut the shit, whoever thought ADWD and AFFC needed to be two seperate books was a moron, it needed less filler and it would have been as amazing as the rest if the books, why? It built character development and important plot points that will explode in WoW and ADOS, the Martells storyline, the greyjoys, fAegon, Dany, Cersei, Tyrion, Sansa, Littlefinger, Lady Stoneheart, fucking Gendry, remember him? Arya, Sam, Cersei, Jaime and maybe Jon, it has built so many storylines that people can't wait for WoW for a reason. The showrunners could have just, as I said before, cut the bullshit from 4 & 5 and actually make something amazing, instead they are fucking the source material in the ass and saying fuck it, I honestly don't care but it's baffling that they missed the opportunity.
MadCrainProductions I understand the frustration, but why is everybody igonring the fact that they have no source material to work with after this season. That's not the showrunners fault, it's GRRM's. He only gave them broadstrokes and they have to build up toward a conculsion i doubt that we'll ever get in book form.
If by some of chance GoT actually reads comments: I like this season so far. And I like the sand snakes, although i think their introduction could have been better. Go HBO!
8Gerrard8Liverpool The Greyjoys are ultimately irrelevant to the story. With the ways thing are going in the show they might not even do the Battle of Meereen.
Nicoyutub I bet you if they made the ironborn instead of Dorne, everyone would be like "THIS STORYLINE SUCKS WE WANT THE SAND SNAKES". Boo-hoo all you want, mate.
Nicoyutub I agree that the first scene with the Sand Snakes was pretty cheesy and the acting was average, but I'd rather wait until the end of the season to get to a conclusion. It was not a very good first impression, though.
Before even scrolling down I said to myself: "I bet the first thing I'll see is people complaining about it not being 100% like the book." I was not disappointed.
Aw man! Tell us more about Braavos! I love Braavos. I'm actually going to move to Braavos. Did you shoot in Venice? Did you build canals in a studio? I wanna know more! Moar, you hear me!
They can't do every story-line from the books, because the books aren't finished. :)))))))))))))))))))))))))))) And even if they were, GoT is ten hours a season, and massive cuts would be made. In short: IF YOU WANT A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE, READ AND SONG OF ICE AND FIRE. This is GAME OF THRONES.
D&D also have a list similar to Arya's Euron, Victarion, Wyman, Lady Stoneheart, Robett, Barbrey, Griff, Young Griff, Haldon, Rolly, Balon Swann (of course), Cersei's puppet council, Garlan and Willas to name some I would have liked to of seen. But hey hot dornish chicks and Missandei scenes are great too. (cough, cough)
I feel like, if the actresses playing the Sand Snakes are not even aware that they have five younger sisters, then they never took the characters that serious, and that explains a lot. By the way, Oberyn did mention he had eight daughters in season 4, and he wrote a poem to Elia Sand, the fifth eldest. Tyene being Ellaria's daughter in the show is okay by me, it's also alright if we never see Sarella, Elia, Obella, Dorea or Loreza (though I'm hoping for Alleras in Sam's story), but I won't forgive them if they change their canon after they specifically mentioned EIGHT daughters.
I hope people begin to understand one negative aspect of feminism (not all of it is bad of course) but this is the reason why some people have problems with it. With the Sand Snakes, in the books, you had diverse, interesting, unique and powerful women, but perhaps due to the "strong woman" popular Hollywood stereotype, the characters are now diminished of personality and therefore it defeats the entire purpose. It's not about making strong women so much as it is putting the same amount of effort and passionate into your female characters as you do with your male characters.
Sam Martin How is any of that anything to do with feminism? Sounds more like you just don't like how a TV show based on a book is portraying characters who have to cram 300 pages of story into a cumulative 17 minutes of screen-time this season.
Elmo9001 They've already cut out 60% of the beloved characters we knew from the books. Are you saying the fact that they butchered the Sand Snakes is because of time constraints? It's just that people tend to praise strictly speaking strong female characters (Peggy Carter, Katniss, hell even Ygritte)... not to say they aren't good characters, it's just that by pointing out what they like about them (muscles and big dicks) in fandom creates a sort of fanservice. A good example would be Tris from Divergent: seeing the success of the Hunger Games, they're appealing to fans by presenting another dull character who just so happens to be strong. But I could be wrong?
Sam Martin You can't judge a character solely on one 3-minutes scene, that way Jaime is just an evil child-murder. I don't think we read the same books the SS were always one-note characters, defined solely by their weapons ( not counting Sarella, since she's not even going by that name).
wyl Kan That's not the point. Terrible casting, dialogue, acting, and introduction. I doubt it will get any better either. And it's not "judging a character"... it's judging how they wrote that character. Jaime in his first scenes was a beautifully written character and so was "Winter is Coming". Bad writing =/= morally bad character. You're all mixed up.
Sam Martin I may misunderstood you, but my point still stands. 1 bad scene is not enough to judge a performance, give'em a chance and they might surprise you
Keisha Castle Hughes from the movie about the whales and the Maori people! I didn't realize that she's one of the sand snakes until now! She also played Mary, jesus mom.
an someone help me please I am new to Game of thrones although I am upto date with the TV series Season 5 episode 5 I would really like to read the books can someone tell me how many there is and in what order to read them as I can't seem to find out through Google Thanks in advance and Thank you HBO for an awesome awesome series!
Game of Thrones-it's time to bring Benjen back or finish his story...love that actor and would like to know what happened to him. I hate how actors drop from the story line untold...not good storytelling in the end. Missing Benjen, if anyone see's him tell him to phone the Wall.
OMG, they contradict themselves in 5 second :)) ..... Benioff says that Oberyn has 8 daughters but the actresses have no idea :) The Sand Snakes were ridiculous in the books, I have no idea how they managed to make them worse in the show :)
Game of Thrones needs a change in scenery. The endless damp grassland, snow, desert and castle locations are getting very repetitive. Generally, that would be a stingy thing to say as those settings are, in reality, quite varied. I do however expect better from the greatest show of all time. I'm hoping we get to see more mysterious and even magical locations soon; The Neck which House Reed owns for example. Yes the camera work will be difficult and the set pieces will take time and be costly, but it would be refreshing and well suited to a show of such high caliber.
The entire House of Black & White was NOT explained at all in the show like they explained it here. I can't appreciate a scene if I have no idea what I'm looking at and you spend no camera time showing the place off. C'mon guys … focus.
So far Dorne has been really depressing, I really wanted to see more of Dorne but all we have seen thus far is just a garden for petes sake...like what the fuck.
Why is Dorne green and lush as Jamie and Bron go through the land ?? It's supposed to be frecking desert - fire your location scouts - poor effort. And ps valyria was terrible
Maisie has never acted before in her life and her acting runs circles around all the people in Dorne. Not going to lie , after trying to be open about Dorne on GOT vs the books I must say I am disappointed by all of them. Even Ellaria doesn't seem as good as she was in season 4...or as heart. To me their over acting a bit. Like Doran to me has a lot of potential to be great because he looks like similar to what i imagined but so far I feel like he should approach the role with a calmer style and not so "firery" that's not his style
I'm just thankful for all the time and effort put into this show,
Because all that effort produces greatness and I love the show.
So thanks
***** Stannis The Mannis
Bradley Beckett Totally agree with you. Imo, greatest tv series ever made. . :)
DarkLordLink No
This aged well
Checking in as one of the few who will NOT complain about the changes from the books. I'm ok with most of the characters that they've cut out. Keep doing your thing HBO!
Pleb
Except for Barristan the bold. The shouldn't have cut him

Noel Aranda People need to understand that this is a TV show it costs actual money ! The books cost you nothing but your imagination
Noel Aranda It's not a problem they cut characters.... 'Elaria is a hot blooded woman'
I'm sorry, did you read the books?
Wanting Arianne, Wyman, Euron, Victarion, Young Griff, Aeron, Stoneheart, Coldhands. But they include the Sandsnakes?
Coldhands is Benjen Stark. GRRM's description of both characters is very similar, and Benjen helps Bran at one point in the show in Coldhands' place.
What do you call Jon Snow when he becomes a White Walker?
Snow White. Boom!!!
Jon Walker, the brother of Paul walker. XD
Hahahhaha
Behan Flaherty Easy: Christopher Walken :)
Lol. Or Jon Walker.
White Snow*
I love Alexander Siddig's attitude towards his character. Looking at the books, I think he's gonna do a great job in the coming episodes.
Fittingly, Jonathan Pryce/the High Sparrow looks exactly like the pope. They have the same face.
I love these looks into the behind of scenes that they give us
I NEED MORE
Don't hate the flayer, hate the game.
Roose is so great
Indeed, well said Karl
I am being cast as another wildling in season 6.... FINALLY GUYS WOOHO!
Having season 6 on ur CV should be incredibly embarrassing
Everyone told me those sand snakes would be badass. Well not even close, so far. Shit actresses too.
Calm down, we haven't seen much of them yet.
bakfiets imam That "shit actress " was nominated for an Oscar. We can't judge a preformance solely on one badly written scene .
bakfiets imam And how many seconds of screentime did they get? Except for Obara's awkwardly written speech, almost nothing. People are judging way too quickly.
bakfiets imam So far the show has done very bad job with Dorne. I was very happy with Oberyn in season 4, but whoa boy did they screw it up in season 5. It's so bad compared to the source material. This is what I was afraid of when they decided to not follow the books.

They've mentioned Oldtown in two separate scenes so far this season, as well.
**hopeful** :D
DispleasedEskimo Yeah, i thought that won't happen till the convesation last night. It makes much more sense since they don't have Mance baby
DispleasedEskimo Just Easter Eggs. Sam is not going there, neither are the Sand Snakes.
Vlad Bayard But they are setting up Maester Ameson death and Sam having to replace him.

More promo material than actual onscreen Dorne. Bravo
I can't wait to see the Sparrows' story play out!
Daenerys Targaryen Me too, Queen of Thorns and Margy vs Cersei. Then you've got Littlefinger back in the mix. Episode 6 should be great.
Smeagle Reegle yeah it should be!
Daenerys Targaryen totally loved them so far
Happy birthday Mother Martell aka Indira!
Johnathan pryce does a wonderful job.couldnt imagine anyone else playing the part.
tyene is love, Tyene is life
O cenário desta temporada está incrível!!!
Not enough Wyman Manderly - 0/10
The Song of Ice and Fire, Game of Thrones
I was w8ing so long to see Areo Hotah and his huge axe!!!!!
Great locations, as I'm watching from my apartment.
Thank you for putting together a longer video.
I can't stand the little 30 sec cut.
If by some of chance GoT actually reads comments: I like this season so far. And I like the sand snakes, although i think their introduction could have been better.
Go HBO!
I can't wait to see the rest of the Sand sisters. :)
Doran Martell is like a southern Littlefinger. At least in the books.
This video felt too quick for 8 minutes
Tom Monty Time flies when you're having fun!
Nobody gives a fuck about Greyworm and Missandei, we want the Greyjoys.
I totally agree I couldn't careless about them two
8Gerrard8Liverpool I give a fuck. Don't talk as if you were voicing everybody's opinions.
Jaime Pe
Hes voicing mine fuck off with the filler.
8Gerrard8Liverpool The Greyjoys are ultimately irrelevant to the story. With the ways thing are going in the show they might not even do the Battle of Meereen.
Op Mario Im done if they dont im just done that would be the last straw
It seemed like David Benioff was going to cry when he said Oberyn did not make it through Season 4.
Not that it would have been unwarranted.
Can't believe we didn't get the ironborn for this shit
Nicoyutub I bet you if they made the ironborn instead of Dorne, everyone would be like "THIS STORYLINE SUCKS WE WANT THE SAND SNAKES". Boo-hoo all you want, mate.
TheGrimHHH you're right, they would probably be just as poorly written and horribly acted.
Nicoyutub The Ironborn story was so irrelevant and I never cared for it.
Also the Ironborn are scum.
Nicoyutub I agree that the first scene with the Sand Snakes was pretty cheesy and the acting was average, but I'd rather wait until the end of the season to get to a conclusion. It was not a very good first impression, though.
TheGrimHHH Hopefully it'll pick up. But we'll have to see
Before even scrolling down I said to myself: "I bet the first thing I'll see is people complaining about it not being 100% like the book." I was not disappointed.
New characters?? That would be something new and I wouldn't be so disappointed.
new places and characters we've barely seen and it's past mid season :/
GameOfThronessss thank god we didn't see even more of the sand snakes. Their acting is terrible.
Michael009 C'mon the prison scene wasn't that bad =)
Christian G yeah...i'm starting to like them more haha.
Aw man! Tell us more about Braavos! I love Braavos. I'm actually going to move to Braavos. Did you shoot in Venice? Did you build canals in a studio? I wanna know more! Moar, you hear me!
Why do they call it Dorne on the shows into when it's Sunspear/Watergardens.
Me acabo de comer un hermoso spoiler. Macanudisimos por avisar..
Is it a weirwood tree at the end of the video??
Too bad we're halfway through the season and had one 2 minute scene in the water gardens. Well played HBO.
Nimrohd RS Not to mention there were no children in the Water Gardens, which pretty much defeats the entire purpose of them.
***** I KNOW RIGHT!
Thanks alot Obama!!!

301 club is a contender for the Iron throne.
5:05 You have no right to mention ASOIAF anymore!
He had, Game of Thrones is ASOIAF duh
These book fanatics are ruining the show for all of us.
No they arent🤣🤣 howd ya feel now??? Hahahahaha everyone's buying the books now and dorne was embarrassingly awful
I really imagined Doran to look waaaay different. Not so handsome, and a bit pudgy since he is stuck in a chair.
i haven't read very far in the books but people talking about lady stoneheart makes me disappointed she's not in the show
Is that Lady Olenna (The Queen of Thorns) conversing with the High Sparrow at the beginning of this, becuase it looks like her from that angle.
Is just me, or the Sand Snakes not seem nearly as bad ass as people have made them out to be? They're like, Charlies' Angels "bad ass" to me.
Keisha Castle Hughes from the movie about the whales and the Maori people! I didn't realize that she's one of the sand snakes until now! She also played Mary, jesus mom.

an someone help me please
I am new to Game of thrones although I am upto date with the TV series Season 5 episode 5 I would really like to read the books can someone tell me how many there is and in what order to read them as I can't seem to find out through Google
Thanks in advance and Thank you HBO for an awesome awesome series!
Game of Thrones-it's time to bring Benjen back or finish his story...love that actor and would like to know what happened to him. I hate how actors drop from the story line untold...not good storytelling in the end. Missing Benjen, if anyone see's him tell him to phone the Wall.
Only Character I still want to see this season is Wyman Manderly or atleast a version of him.
my fav is s5
It feels like some characters get like... 5-10 minutes per season.
"and, Oberyn sadly didn't make it through season 4...." Oh you don't say, I wonder who's fault that is.
I fear "Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken will be the farewell episode for Ser Bronn aka Ser Whelped n Whipped. I'll miss your leathery, elastic face skin
The Sandsnakes are starting to go over to comic book, video game territory for me.
Not saying they won't be fun but just a little meh.
PCMASTEREACEEE
Pabla Digital HYBRIDMASTERRACE
Isnt Tyene supposed to be golden haired? With blue eyes? And isnt her weapon supposed to be poison? And isnt her mother supposed to be a septa?
Were there spoiler scenes here or haven't I watched all the episodes that have been released yet?
Jon Connington, Young Griff, Golden Company...? :/
i can't imagine Sansa and Ramsay will get married next episode, something will happen to prevent it
OMG, they contradict themselves in 5 second :)) ..... Benioff says that Oberyn has 8 daughters but the actresses have no idea :) The Sand Snakes were ridiculous in the books, I have no idea how they managed to make them worse in the show :)
I can already feel the cringe from the "For Oberyn" scene. Please prove me wrong lmao.
the dorne plotline was absolute trash but the production and film crews were absolutely amazing
Really want to see Sand Snake chicks in action...wheeee!
I already hate that Sand Snakes.
Game of Thrones also needs a change of writers cause they're ruining the story.
The entire House of Black & White was NOT explained at all in the show like they explained it here.
I can't appreciate a scene if I have no idea what I'm looking at and you spend no camera time showing the place off.
C'mon guys … focus.
I feel like I'm the only one who gives shit about Dorne and want Coldhands, Stoneheart and young griff
Where is this place ? Seems like Arabic Architecture
KingSLAYER Mask My guess is Cordoba or other southern Spain city.
Ugh the bland snakes
Why kill Selmy?
Forseti why not?
Because he is not even dead yet in the books.
Ironborn:(
Leah R IronBRON)
I really don't like the 3 sisters. Not enough difference. I hope i would pay for my prejudice in recent episodes.
too bad the water garden fight was total shit :((
i hope we dont spend too much time in dorne. this plotline is already bothering me. and its totally uninteresting and filled with bad actors.
These people are bad...They need cleansing. Lol
god dan & dave are insufferable
