Just found these photos love them... wondering who these people were what type of life they led...i bet there are a few ghost stories on theses streets and what a tale they could tell facinating thanks for posting them. Are there any of burngreave road and the old police station (we lived in that old station in the late 50's)
The shop with the lad on the horse looks very much like my grand shop on Nethethorpe Road. My uncle, with dementia, used to speak about a horse bolting outside.
It's a pity that the the toll house on Gleadless Road was demolished It was there throughout my childhood, Mrs Darby lived in it at the time. I used to feed peelings to the pigs kept at Myrtle Springs and where once water used to bubble up out of the ground, houses now stand and all the small holdings lost forever.
Great work Kim,I've got an old pic of the gamekeepers cave house on Wadsley Common if you fancy colouring that? It got demolished over a hundred years ago by dynamite after some unsavoury fella did away with his wife in the 1800s,took me years of looking to find the location then my bloody Mrs found it by accident lol
