    Well El Dorado was an actual myth that a city made of gold was somewhere in South America and actually countries searched for years to find it. The sport with the ball was an actual sport. The animal that used as a ball its an armadillo.

    • @victormirandakoepke8352
      @victormirandakoepke8352 Год назад +8

      Actually, El Dorado was the popular name for a very rich king of sorts iirc, he paid a ransom so his people wouldn't be fucked over, which led the Spanish Conquistadors to think "if he's willing to give this much gold away he must have much more" and fucked his people over in search of his gold, so the search for the El Dorado the golden man and his city was embellished into the search for the golden city of El Dorado, which led to El Dorado: the golden city being a thing the Spanish believed was hidden in South America. The belief that there was a city of gold hidden just waiting to be pillaged certainly helped fuel the Spanish desire for conquest in the Americas, which led to a brutal genocide of every native people they stumbled into along the way in their useless quest to find the city they imagined into myth.
      Cortez was a certified monster btw, man was a fucking psychopath beyond compare for the bullshit he pulled.

    • @osmanyousif7849

    • @a_g8095
      @a_g8095 11 месяцев назад +5

      My biggest problem is that the movie was made by ignorant people, those "violent" things that the spiritual leader were saying were actual things that were important for mesoamerican cultures and highly respected. Being a offer to the gods was something that was like the highest honor of all times, not something bad, and the thing that the two "European" guys went there and were "good people" is just sickening based in the history.

    • @OpticalSorcerer
      @OpticalSorcerer 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@a_g8095 Yeah, it was obviously made from a modern POV; obviously we'd condemn such things now, but the fact that it's Europeans who save the day is kinda frustrating (which I think were based on the theory that Mesoamericans thought Cortez was one of their gods and thus submitted to him).

    I love this movie a lot. Dreamwork's is mostly known for it's 3D films like Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, How to Train Your Dragon and so on but their 2D era had plenty of absolute bangers IMO.
    Also, something I find kind of funny about the myth of El Dorado that this movie is based on is that everyone refers to El Dorado as "the City of Gold" but the direct translation of the city's name is just "the Gold." I don't know, I just find it funny how on the nose that is lol

    • @victormirandakoepke8352
      @victormirandakoepke8352 Год назад +1

      El Dorado actually translates to "the golden (presumably one)" and it is believed that the name came from a rich leader of a group of native people who adorned himself with gold (thus being known as "the golden"), the Spanish conquistadors just blew up the myth of the golden man into the myth of a golden city and then when they couldn't find it into the "Hidden city of gold", which they painted about half a continent red with native blood in their search for. It became a real myth that some people believed was still hidden away in the jungle up to some time back, and given that we still find ruins of lost civilizations in the Amazon to this day, probably still a few people believe it to actually exist hidden in the jungle.

    This is my favorite movie of all time. I know every line. The fact is was never about the gold but the adventure is something you pick up in later. My theory is Chibalboa the god they were throwing gold to granted them safe passage, as the boat tips over, dropping it all into the water. That is why they escape, and a subtle way to show it was about the friendship. There should of been a sequel. The people of Eldarado wern't stupid either. Cheif Talbot, and Chel know what they are trying to do, and using Tulio, and Migel to their own ends.
    The Movie takes homage from The Bob Hope, and Bing Crosby movies from the 40s and 50s. Famous for their 4rth wall breaks, and insane ass cons, with a much smarter female lead played by Dorothy Lamour.
    In reality Eldarado was as mythical, and lied about to the point it might as well be a giant rock.
    One more thing the criticism of Miguel, and Tulio, being evil, they are gamblers, this is like their day Las Vegas. More living the lifestyle, and less taking the people over. Plus in one way they were all poor, and either enslaved, or about to be. Miguel and Tulio were to be sent to. Cuba as slaves for the rest of their lives, and Chel was going to be arrested. They helped each other out. We could go deeper, but yeah they used their skills and friendship together to get out of circumstances leaving riding into the sunset, with let me rephrase NO GOLD!!!!

      @victormirandakoepke8352 Год назад

      there is a popular theory that the armadillo is the god watching over them as they go on their adventure.
      Yeah, I found it a bit weird to criticize Miguel and Tulio as evil for being willing to pretend to be gods and to try and steal the people's gold when they were worried about being killed, the people clearly don't overly care about the gold and their gods would feast on human sacrifices. Specially weird to complain about them impersonating gods and then in the very next sentence complain about how barbaric the gods are too.

    Back in the 70s (and even sooner) some scenes in this movie would be plain unthinkable for a children's movie, but we are not in the 70s or sooner anymore, so we must get accustomed to the fact that some morals about our society have changed and evolved (much as some disapprove of it- there have always been sceptic people, it's part of the game, something just natural), like they have always had, so in a way this should be not so serious.
    Besides, does anybody remember other animated movies like "Felidae" or "Nimh: the secret of Mrs. Brisby"? Well, those movies were gloomy and gory for real (even for some adults), way gorier than this, and still I believe that some children watched them (which must have been a traumatic experience for them, I guess).
    So, in conclusion, yes, maybe some scenes might be "spicy", but not that a big deal after all in spite of the fact that it is supposed to be a children's movie.

    I was more of a Disney kid. So I didn't watch this movie until I was closer to my teenage years. But I still enjoyed it because of the great chemistry of the two leads and it being more of a buddy-adventure movie than romance. Not to complex and a good fun time movie ^-^

    Um dos meus filmes favoritos que nao tiveram o sucesso que mereciam junto com planeta do tesouro. Adoraria ver uma serie ou sequencia desse filme ( poderia usar outra lenda espanhola como a fonte da juventude ) mas infelizmente nunca vamos poder ver . E tambem por apresentar uma das crushs de desenho que todo mundo tinha quando mas jovem lol

    It's great to see you discovering movies!
    If you're looking for new films to put on your list of ideas, I suggest you Help I'm a fish, an animated movie that marked an entire generation, or Dragon Hunters, of which you'd be probably by the way the first person to make a reaction video.
    There are also the Naked Guns movies that you would appreciate for their particular humor.
    Wish you the best!

    I swear this movie is like a kid friendly version of Mark Twain’s A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court.
    A man finds himself in a strange land, lies about having supernatural powers by the luck of a convenient natural event, gain the approval of the king while being at odds with the religious leader, develop a relationship with a local woman, win single-handedly at a spectator sport with his “powers,” and the final confrontation with the religious leader reveals that magic is real.
    Mark Twain’s book is however darker as he doesn’t shy away from the horrors of the feudal system and slavery, how stupid the nobility were, and how controlling the church was.

    I miss the 2D animation. Disney and DreamWorks were👌🏼(you should also watch Sinbad from DreamWorks; it's wonderful and a bit horny too 😂). When I was a kid I looked forward to it b/c it had a bit of Spain and I'm from Spain ,and it was worth it. And when you say the movie is about scammers that was basically Spain in those times 😂😂 some of of Spanish most famous books are about picaresque and scams from the 16th century.
    Btw, the name of the horse, Altivo, is an adjective in Spain which could be translated to fiery or close to arrogant

    I love the music. I know it's not at the level of some disney classics or the prince of egipt, but the music for me is just behind the top classics.
    The "problem" with the movie is probably Chel. She adds too much... adult stuff to the mix. My little cousin, who was a kid when he watched this movie, told me not so long ago that when he watched it for the first time, before puberty, he liked Chel, she made him feel "happy" but he didn't know why.
    It didn't cause problems to the kids but I supposed it made parents uncomfortable.

    I hate this movie soooo much because it's just disrespectful towards the cultures. It's ignorant and stupid. Its changes the context and the belief of the cultures that they use to create a new one were the european guys are not bad because they are not "wild" but they can steal, lie, and other things and still be the heroes....
    Sickening the European mind of the people behind this movie
