My wife said the effect for this on my dreadnought exhaust looked pretty dang good! She is super good at art so I don't get high praise. You sir have earned a subscriber!
This is EXACTLY what I needed, wanted to add those heat stains on a lasgun and had no idea how to do it, amazing little tutorial, quick and to the point
Awesome tutorial! I remember waaaay back painting a guardsman with a flamer and I tried painting a scorched barrel and accidentally nailing it. The rest of the model looked like garbage but that weapon was perfection. I use Army Painter but they've got equivalents for all of these shades.
Thanks a lot Tom! Yes, old comments - this was an early access video on Patreon. So some people watched a long time ago, then we just kinda forgot we uploaded it until today :)
That's a little more red but it could still work. I think you'd be better off with thinned down Aggaros Dunes or Skeleton Horde contrast paints if you have those
I have a question. how do I give that dark sidetone or what is it called to my guns as mine are shiny cause I only have metallic silver and it makes my metal parts look like a toy or brand new parts. do I only have to use shader oil or sg else is also needed?
If you want to darken the metal I'd suggest mixing half and half Black Templar contrast paint and Nuln Oil. You'll still have a metallic look, but "blackened". If you just want "carbon build up" on the tip of the barrel, just dry brush on some normal black paint.
looks very cool. just one problem... it's backwards. the hottest part of a gun barrel is closest to the source of the heat, i.e. the chamber. google heat discoloration charts 😉
Very cool effect. Just for a point of edification, this doesn't happen on any gun barrels. Gun barrels will turn cherry red and melt, but they will be normal color again when they cool. It does happen on tail pipes though. I believe the more chrome, the more of a stain you get. Not sure where this started with the gun barrels, but I'm guessing it's b/c most 40K players only shoot with dice :-) Keep the tip clean, and keep on painting.
I like to pretend that plasma weapons do this too ;) Though who really knows - I think the "rule of cool" applies most of the time when painting 40k. Is a plasma weapon barrel more like a blow torch or a machine gun when it shoots? Answer: whichever you want haha
@@davidbright8978 if the bluing had been damaged, then the barrel is just another metal pipe. Yeah, that makes sense, I just haven't seen or heard of it happening to anyone I know in real life.

Thank you for the tutorial. It was so much simpler to paint my own heat stains that I had thought!
Glad it was helpful!
Working on a Knight's exhaust. This is perfect. Thank you.
I’ve seen other people use this but it becomes way to bright for my liking while this is so muted and worn looking it feels so nice.
Thanks for this technique dude!
I was restraining myself from dancin to the music of the first two minutes lmfao 🤣

Yeah any company will do, you just need the right colors :)
For anyone wondering!
Soft tone
Purple tone
Blue tone
I think I’ll use this method for my Mandalorian vambraces on the incinerators and my blasters! Thanks for the tips!
Awesome effect! It's cool when You see such tutorial and have all these paints at desk :D
So simple, but makes such a difference. Thank you very much! 🏅
Thanks for demonstrating this technique. Just found your channel and your painting tips are brilliant!
Glad you liked it Tom! (sorry, just noticed your comment :D )
. Awesome technique, awesome channel, awesome people.
WIPI rocks

Outstanding.
Pretty dang good there, brolaf. Just need to add some tea and biscuits, and you're rawkin hard, like an antelope!
Um.... thank you? :D
I use a similar process but use mr hobby transparent water based paints in orange yellow and blue
What are the colors you are using on the rest of the piece ? Any tutorial for the painting of the complete piece ? Looks sick and I’m new to this
I'm working on guns for matching Optimus and Megatron models, so it's gonna be fun trying to experiment with darker metals lol
Dang that looks good. Bout to tackle a Questoris Knight Crusader. You can bet your sweet badonkadonk imma be using this technique...
Hahaha :D Right on - building and painting a knight is a fun project!
It worked well, but the paint flaked off at the gun range.
:-D
Wow perfekt
Nice
Would you guys do an airbrush video with the speed paint
It's in the works!
Do you have a list of all the colors u use in this video?
That's a lot simpler than I'd have thought. How important is it to use a gloss wash? Could I get the same effect with a layer of gloss varnish?
I didn't use any gloss varnish, and I wouldn't recommend it. I think it would ruin the effect.
Would Reikland fleshshade work instead of the sepia? I don’t have it at the moment…

Wouldn't it be hottest at the tip? Where plasma hits the air? I based it off a heat stained exhaust pipe I saw :)
B1BFlyer did a vid like this a long while ago on CamoSpecs. This way might be a little easier.
I love B1Bflyer! I haven't seen his version of it. I'll have to check that out.
@@WatchItPaintIt iirc it is an older video using a BattleTech tank

Well certain parts of my saw would see this effect when the finished effect on the barrel has been stripped off.

Looks like a melta to me, not sure if real world ballistics apply too much.
Drukiai oh my god my ears
Yeah... I know :) I say it correctly now
You ripped this from another channel.
That other channel is mine :) I just ported it over here!
