- Today, I'm exploring what might be the coolest part of Chiang Mai City, Thailand! This area is nestled right next to the mountains, so it's super green and nature-y. Imagine waking up to fresh mountain air - that's what it's like here!
First up, I checked out a super affordable room rental. It's perfect for budget travelers or anyone who wants more of a nature experience. I wandered around and discovered a unique cafe that i use to come for coffee many moons a go.
This area also boasts some amazing markets that aren't as crowded as the big ones downtown. I found handmade souvenirs, fresh local fruits, and even some funky clothes.
The whole area has a totally different feel from the rest of Chiang Mai. It's much more relaxed and peaceful, with a strong focus on nature. If you're looking to escape the hustle and bustle and find a chill spot in Chiang Mai, this place is a must-visit!

Love this area near the university. First place I stayed in CM when I first visited Thailand in 2014. Definitely a different feel.

Speaking of places to live, have you come across many old-fashioned guesthouses - ie. larger houses where you rent a private room, typically for a shorter stay (1-3 months) but share the kitchen & bathroom facilities with people renting the other rooms? Not a hostel - I see that as a different type of space.
If so, how do yu usually find these places? On Facebook? Word-of-mouth? Or mostly by just wandering around and looking for "For Rent" signs?
BTW - do you ever ask if the renter knows how to do the TM30 form?
Thanks Michael, this is a great area surrounded by nature. I just done a homestay place at Ya's. I have them vlog on the channel. It's always best to go out on foot once you get here, that's how you find the best places.

Mostky a student area with a mix of Chinese/Japanese tourists. Lot's of nature on the mountain side. It's a nice area and different from the rest of the city. Thanks Dan.

Great video Wayne thanks for sharing. There is a spot called Lankinsen restaurant just south a few min from Wat Umong is a hidden gem in that area well worth checking out if over that way super good prices for really amazing food and good portion sizes. I'd highly recommend giving them a try next time you're over that way you won't be disappointed. Lots of free on site bike and car parking too!

All depends what you’re looking for. Bars or more relaxed area. The old city is always a good option.

Question - have you noticed a lot of cyclists (racing type not shopping bike) in that area? As I understand it Chang Mai is has quite a large community of cyclists due to the terrain and the cooler weather than the south. I am looking at being based in Chang Mai and alternating between PKK area which is an amazing place.
Many long distance road cyclists in Chiang Mai, yes. As you mentioned, Chiang Mai is a hub for cyclist. A lot of them go up the mountains and cycle around the North.
Super cheap 4000-6000 per month. Go vacation pay that for 1 month Super cheap really. You have pool and everything. And its easy going around in Thailand of you want go somewhere. There tucktuck or taxi everywhere.

Yes, Pun Pun is still in San Dok, I do believe. I've not been for ages. It's a great place, I use to go all the time for a curry.

is it possible she meant 6000 baht per night / week for the 3rd room? Was it a miscommunication due to the language barrier? This can't really be only 6000 baht for an entire month! Am I wrong?

No, it's 6000 Baht a month and the smaller one 4000 a month. Water 200 baht per month. Electric normal rate and fridge and TV an extra 500 baht a month. Thanks.

That studio room for $110 per month and the bigger room for $164, both with free wifi, seem like great deals. In the United States, I pay nearly that for just the internet. 🥲
