Mercedes m103 ,m104 and bmw m30 are similar engines,iron block,aluminium head and overbuild internals. All of those engines are capable of geting over 500hp with turbo without opening engine. M30 did overheat and crack heads but now problem with m30 is that there isnt much left of them,they were put only in 5 and 7 series long time ago, they started building it in late 60's but ended around 1992. Most of those engines were scraped around year 2000 before performance tuning flurished. I understand You used m104 with its transmision or transmision from newer 2,7cdi cars.Considering low price of those engines it is better swap than puting m60 or m62 into e34. I was thinking about building similar car as daily driven toy car, my plan was on turbocharging stock w202 m104 2.8 mercedes or building 4wd vw or audi with vr6 2.8 turbo engine but idea of using e34 as shell is apealing...it is a great looking car..looks like 4 door mustang ;)
As for m52 its complicated, usa and africa m52's are basicly stroked m50, they have iron block, and in europe there were 2 types of m52, first generation single vanos had aluminium nicasil block but m52 double vanos had aluminium but with iron slelves, so those are much stronger, comparable to m54 nad propably n54b30(335i first gen) As for m30 and m103 i wonder if those arent the same engines but in those times bmw and mercedes propably didnt share anything, now is the same anyway. Im thinking about building this kind of car for fun and mayby some amatour track use, but i have problem cause at the same time i think it would be fun to have relatively light, 300-400hp car with long travel suspension,for track it would be to soft but for offroad fun it would be great
@sw4gr1d it certainly is not better than the ones you mentioned, but it is not pos either. It's right there with them. BMW's M50 and MB's M104 are poor man's 2jz or rb26 😁
@@stagn9929 Great advantage of m50 is that you can get it anywhere ... 2jz very few were build. M50 can be put to 3 litre displacement with internals from e39 m528. Then you have 3 litre and you can turbo it some guys are driving 1100 hp with that ...
У BMW хоть капот есть, а у Volvo пришлось его снять😁 У нас в стране нельзя ездить без капота, так что не знаю насколько легальна Volvo в отличии от BMW на дороге😁

Im planning on m50b25 with m52b28 crank for m50b28 turbo 800whp build. 💪 ;) oh and they sound incredible 🤩🤩🤩
