Can the ship be used to feature f-35 VTOL Variant , so that this ship can be used as fixed wing aircraft too? I think it would be a gamechanger for the japanese self defense force
Good video. JMSDF ships are good looking. Of course they would operate with other ships, but I think they could use with more SAMs considering the potential air threats in the region
JMSDF has four groups centered on a DHH, although two will soon have F-35s as well. Each has two DDG Aegis escorts, which are comparable to Burkes, and five DD destroyer escorts. The DHH use their helicopters to search for subs, the DDGs protect against air attack, and the DDs protect against close in threats. I think they are, from a bureaucratic standpoint, the best run Navy around right now.
I give him a pass for things like that as English isn’t his native tongue. There’s a lot of nautical terminology that’s highly regional / language specific. For example in the US ships are referred to as feminine however most of the world uses male pronouns for ships.
I hope (like they did with the F-16 and Patriot) that Japan considers licensed production of the F35, both the A and B versions. It would be worthwhile if another production line was set up IMO. Yes the CIWS would have problems intercepting a mach 4 missile, but I will also point out that is a software and radar problem, and likely it is already being modified for this problem. Obviously it is important to try and intercept them far beyond CWIS range, but don't assume it's impossible.
Japan isn’t ordering anywhere near enough F-35s to justify its own production line. That said in the event of major peer / near peer war there’s definitely an obvious benefit of multiple production lines but Japan is too close to the likely combat to be an ideal secondary production base. (Not to mention the F-35 production is already a global effort, duplicating the existing global supply chain would be a tall order). I think a better use of Japanese military production facilities would be other countries buying their domestically developed and produced platforms, such as the Kawasaki P-1 ASW aircraft and C-2 cargo plane. In fact I’m quite surprised no other country has placed orders for the P-1 because it seems to be an excellent aircraft and a good competitor for the Boeing P-8. That being said I can’t help but wonder if it would have been more successful if it were equipped with 4 turboprops instead of turbofans, which would have made shutting off 1 or even 2 engines for extended loitering more viable.
JMSDF needs to incorporate carrier strike groups into its surface fleet . . . for e.g. a fleet of three brand new Type 67A class 82,653 ton (86,435 ton loaded) stealth (CATOBAR) aircraft carrier powered by iFuelCell® e-HYBRId™ M-HEP system . . .
because the Hyuga class cannot, its deck is not rated for F-35Bs, the Izumos on the otherhand were the same initially but were quickly modified and retrofitted to handle the F-35Bs and have since been relabelled as actual light carriers.
They are definitely not the same as an aircraft carrier. While they may look large in this video they’re considerable smaller than the American light carriers like the Wasp class that operate fixed wing aircraft (F-35 and Harriers) It’s possible they can be modified for F-35s but they’d have a greatly reduced fuel/weapon load out. No, these really are designed for rotar wing operations - specifically ASW. I think the best way to look at this is an upsized guided missile destroyer capable of operating a whole mess of ASW helos. In a major conflict these would work very well as part of an American carrier or amphibious battle group.
🇯🇵 would never make this today. They realize 🚁 are becoming obsolete, especially for their needs, and are basically eliminating them from their defense forces.
Their primary stated function is anti submarine warfare. Japan, like England in WW2, is completely dependent upon seagoing commerce for its survival which means they are vulnerable to submarine warfare. An ASW platform such as this allows a surface fleet to command a huge area of the ocean and prosecute any enemy submarines in the area. Essentially it’s an up-sized guided missile destroyer modified to carry a large complement of ASW helicopters (and potentially F-35B stealth fighters). In peacetime it’s also well suited for humanitarian missions such as disaster response, peacekeeping, and are equipped to operate as a flagship. Like most ship classes their true value is revealed when thought of as a cog in a machine. Imagine this ship and its full complement of 2 dozen ASW helicopters attached to an American carrier battle group, which would more than double its ASW capability. In a potential conflict with China that makes this a very valuable ship indeed.
@@WilliamSanderson86to clarify/ build upon your comment helicopters drop torpedoes but not rocket propelled torps, those are typically fired from ships. If a helicopter is dropping on a subsurface contact it detected on its dipping sonar or sonobuoys then the sub is well within air-dropped torpedo range.
i swear everytime the Hyuga class and the Izumo class are mentioned Americans in particular somehow lose their sh*t about it and whining like dumbasses cuz they dont even realize nor bother to figure out that it was their own country who encouraged Japan to make these ships, and have ever since then been supporting it, yeah its the US that encouraged Japan to make these ships, and when Japan did make these ships the US public oblivious to something that wasnt even classified and was publicly available info ever since the start of the cold war somehow managed to still not be able to piece it together and continue to whine about it and make fun of Japan for it...
American here. I think these and the Izumo class are great for what they are, and as I’ve said in a couple other comments these would pair exceptionally well with US carrier or amphibious battle group. That being said I think Japan not only a) has the population to support a larger carrier platform but b) has significant vulnerabilities to justify larger carriers. IMHO they need to improve their missile desire capability given their proximity to China, NK, and Russia. I’d like to see more Australia - Japan - Philippines - South Korea military cooperation and naval development. The cost of developing a class of just two ships in a class is astronomical but if that can be shared across several countries it makes it much more viable. The people that are all like “derrrrrr it’s small and not a real carrier durrrrrrrr” don’t know what they’re talking about. The big concern I have is how Japan, South Korea, ROC, and Australia will fare on their own if China launches Pearl Harbor 2.0 and knocks the US out of the fight for a year or so. The aforementioned counties are all too reliant on the US for protection.

Did you delete your Izumo class and Maya class video? I can't find it
I still giggle at the meme of "Day 55: The other destroyers still do not realize I am a carrier."
Looks like a beautiful ship

The JMSDF already have one of the most potent anti-air destroyers and frigates there is. What the JMSDF lacks is offensive potential.
@@mosesracal6758well it is a self defence force lol
Carriers depend on other ships in the fleet for air defense, which is what guides missile destroyers are for.
this channel made my passion come back. i love military technology but it got somehow boring now its interesting again
With what’s going on in Ukraine, how are you bored with military technology yet passionate about videos that are mostly about old tech?

ひゅうが級は「30ノットで爆走できる輸送艦」とでもいいましょうか。
輸送艦じゃなくて対潜ヘリ空母では
おおすみ型と違ってランプドアもないから輸送には不向きだと思う

Nice video. Just one technicality...ships don't have floors. They have decks.

Japan was force to adapt f-16 . You should see the plan they got for the origin f2 😢
