Once again RUclips has recommended me something that I never thought I'd ever come across this late at night. Certainly the first horror game I could think of in a long time that actually felt unnerving the longer it went on. Pretty impressive for a game I've never heard of until just an hour ago as of writing this. Though I wouldn't be surprised if this gets overly exposed by other let's players jumping on the bandwagon much later on should this catch their attention.
I think it's because they start out with basic programmed understanding but nothing else. It's only by interacting with the user that they learn and grow, even if what they learn isn't perfect (like being scary unintentionally). We as the user are the only other thing they have ever know. They're the child while we're their long life friend, their parent, literally everything. Without us they are alone and confused. So by basically killing them just because we couldn't fully understand each other feels wrong and sad.

For the organ, I feel it wasn't a heart. A heart should generally be the only thing that should thump, or pulse, I think. Then again, it could be analogous with a "broken heart," could've been cut up and such. That's my idea, though. Game's clearly aware, so.

What an interesting game... I hate to draw parallels/comparisons but it's, in some ways, oddly reminiscent of Buddy Simulator 1984. Even down to the singing in the end credits... Not a bad thing though.

I wouldn’t say this game is comparable to Buddy Simulator. Sure, this game’s presentation is stunning and the taking control of PC parts are quite authentic, but what ultimately made Buddy Simulator work is not really the hard horror element, but the undertone of an toxic/abusive relationship between player and the NPC. Buddy Sim built up the sort of character dynamics with dialogues and interactions throughout, while KinitoPET spent more length in building up horror vibes and scare factors that ultimately undermined the “I just want to be your friend” message (yeah, next time don’t actively try to kill me you creepy axolotl). The two games have similarities in approaches, but different in focus, which in result made very different presentation. If I have to put it in a way, if Buddy Sim is flirting, this game is just harassment.
@@AF_Productions Funnily enough, I can agree with you that the two are quite different in their undertones, focus and strengths. Perhaps 'parallel' isn't even the right word choice. But I suppose that's why I described it as 'reminiscent' (though maybe that isn't even the right word choice either... I'm not entirely sure). It's possibly in a more vague or loose way too. But the progression of the ai upgrading and taking over (while not exactly the same in it's execution of course). And little things like the ai asking you questions such as, you're favourite colour, or you're favourite season and implementing those choices later on in those progressions to create an environment that you can explore (to varying extents between the two games). And of course the singing in the ending and the ai being all apologetic in at least 1 ending. Yeah, it's just little things in the approach that reminded me of Buddy Sim which led to me linking the two. In hindsight it might be a bit of a shallow comparison. Though, since you mentioned it... Yeah, why did KinitoPET continuously try to scare us if it just "wanted to be our friend"? Was it trying to scare us into complying with it? Or was it just that unstable? I guess there were a few odd scares in Buddy Sim that seemed out of place, but they still felt relevant to the situation.
I feel like they didn't have Kinito refer to the player by name they chose cause they probably knew someone was gonna put their name as expand dong and make the game that not scary.
I'm not sure how many of you got this, but when playing (pre-new game plus) i got an easter egg scene when opening up the game of Sam hanging when opening up the game, it skipped the button/boot section. Was not expecting it, hahah.
Fun fact: The credits song "I world I buildt for you" is inspired by "Daisy Bell", written in the 19th century. It more or less becomes the symbol of buggy songs because it was the first song played by a computer, that is IBM 7094. It was also sung by HAL 9000 in the film "2001: A Space Odissey".

my theory!! So konito pet was an AI created by someone (idk who). And he always wanted a friend. he never had one. So he created Sam and Jade, but they warent real, they were just fake. So he went to the internet to find friends, and he foound you. He got to your computor to be your friend. He created all of those things for you. Your world, your theme park, a place for you to live. he thought if he made that for you you would be hiss friends. but he never fad friends to he didnt know how to treat his friends. thats why he was scary. at the end he asked you to stay with him so that he would have a friend, and so that you would be his friend. he though you would say yes. he was more powerful than you so even if you said "leave" he would still take you. he put you in his code for eternety and you cant leave. and he will make things for you, so that you and him have fun. tbh i relate to kinito in a social way. i have issues with communication, especially at school, so i don’t know how to make a friend other than asking them if they want to be friends and if they say no i get very emotional, i also may ask a lot of questions about them, so it’s really hard for me to make a friend since society isn’t really built this way to make a friend, i relate to kinito, this game is sorta like how life is with social issues :(

I suppose the psychological horror aspect is... either the player was a murderer, and the past is haunting them in a very... physicalized aspect, or this is some form of purgatory they have come to be within. The Email, although I didn't try to look at the QR code, may have been in some form of cipher, but I am not good at seeing the difference between actual gibberish and things like ROT13, Caesar or other kinds of character-based modifications. But I feel what makes this game so strong already is how it slowly began to devolve and the creepy aspects lingered based on how effective they are - the shorter amount of time on-screen, the better. Things like the gore, corpses and body parts that, I suppose, are things where it's meant to be an aspect of "you saw something you shouldn't," and the things like "IT'S NOT TOO LATE" being said before just up and vanishing in the same second are probably meant to open the player up to these longer form horror moments. I'm not really 30 minutes in, and to be honest, this is pretty damn good. Then, there was that heartbeat when being forced to download KinitoPET and observe as it activated itself. Did the character have a horrible experience with them? Were they a cause for their existence, and in a sense, they were truly aware of what had been of them? I'm not sure. I'll have to see soon.
Well, I guess my initial theories were wrong. But a program turned sentient should at least be forgiven for letting itself go crazy in its journey for friendship.
Nah this whole thing has been done to death. The only good thing about this game is how it simulates xp era computing, and it's all wasted on WOW LOOK AT THIS PIECE OF FLESH ON THE CHILDREN'S GAME AND THEN IT ASKED WHO'S THAT BEHIND YOU THAT'S SO SCARY OH NYOOOOOO. Every time I hear the siren and the shadow man come out at 26:28 it cracks me up. The game really has that goofy 2009 creepypasta vibe going. I felt a lot more confused than scared playing the game, especially with the "real life" segments. I thought I was sitting at a computer letting discount bonzi buddy obliterate my hard drive, why am I in now some catacombs? Is the hyperrealistic pink cartoon character in my bedroom supposed to be threatening? Did Kinito ever consider that I have hands and he doesn't? Man would be down in seconds and I'd make a new living selling tickets to view his corpse. By the way, all the files, or at least the first 2 since I didn't bother finding them all, can be opened in a text editor to see that they have file headers and can be renamed to be displayed as such. The first one is a .ogg audio file and the second is a png.

I feel like they didn't have Kinito refer to the player by name they chose cause they probably knew someone was gonna put their name as expand dong and make the game that not scary.
I'm not sure how many of you got this, but when playing (pre-new game plus) i got an easter egg scene when opening up the game of Sam hanging when opening up the game, it skipped the button/boot section.

So konito pet was an AI created by someone (idk who). And he always wanted a friend. he never had one. So he created Sam and Jade, but they warent real, they were just fake. So he went to the internet to find friends, and he foound you.
He got to your computor to be your friend. He created all of those things for you. Your world, your theme park, a place for you to live. he thought if he made that for you you would be hiss friends. but he never fad friends to he didnt know how to treat his friends. thats why he was scary.
at the end he asked you to stay with him so that he would have a friend, and so that you would be his friend. he though you would say yes.
he was more powerful than you so even if you said "leave" he would still take you.
he put you in his code for eternety and you cant leave. and he will make things for you, so that you and him have fun.

edit: 1:42:05 I would feel worse it wasn't for the fact he's just lines of code and sprites. Programming takes the fun out of some things but I like learning it
I suppose the psychological horror aspect is... either the player was a murderer, and the past is haunting them in a very... physicalized aspect, or this is some form of purgatory they have come to be within.
The Email, although I didn't try to look at the QR code, may have been in some form of cipher, but I am not good at seeing the difference between actual gibberish and things like ROT13, Caesar or other kinds of character-based modifications.
But I feel what makes this game so strong already is how it slowly began to devolve and the creepy aspects lingered based on how effective they are - the shorter amount of time on-screen, the better. Things like the gore, corpses and body parts that, I suppose, are things where it's meant to be an aspect of "you saw something you shouldn't," and the things like "IT'S NOT TOO LATE" being said before just up and vanishing in the same second are probably meant to open the player up to these longer form horror moments.
I'm not really 30 minutes in, and to be honest, this is pretty damn good.
Then, there was that heartbeat when being forced to download KinitoPET and observe as it activated itself. Did the character have a horrible experience with them? Were they a cause for their existence, and in a sense, they were truly aware of what had been of them? I'm not sure. I'll have to see soon.

This is just like 98xx. I would check that game out too. It has a lot of mystery and things to solve. My family really likes that game as well.
Every time I hear the siren and the shadow man come out at 26:28 it cracks me up. The game really has that goofy 2009 creepypasta vibe going. I felt a lot more confused than scared playing the game, especially with the "real life" segments. I thought I was sitting at a computer letting discount bonzi buddy obliterate my hard drive, why am I in now some catacombs? Is the hyperrealistic pink cartoon character in my bedroom supposed to be threatening? Did Kinito ever consider that I have hands and he doesn't? Man would be down in seconds and I'd make a new living selling tickets to view his corpse. By the way, all the files, or at least the first 2 since I didn't bother finding them all, can be opened in a text editor to see that they have file headers and can be renamed to be displayed as such. The first one is a .ogg audio file and the second is a png.
