I'm so happy that these videos allow us to a have a wider view of the life of the museum. I love to peek behind the scenes, and I love that it allows us to see and celebrate jobs and workers that otherwise might not be as known, but are still essential to the museum. (And the painting looks amazing against the red walls.)
Well done guys. The red walls set off the altar piece beautifully...brings out the stunning colours. Good job it fitted through all those doors by the way! 😉
this is so so cool :) behind the scenes stuff is always fascinating to watch, and it's so interesting to listen to the people behind the behind-the-scenes :) love the visuals as well! all the little creative ways to show the weight, or the types of trollyes, and the hand-drawn maps are lovely ❤
Room 11 is PERFECT for this magnificent work. How about keeping it there and finding something else for its old "home"? Either that, or paint that gallery the same red. Love this view of your dedication. So much love and hard work shows. The next time I head north, after I visit Dali's Last Supper, I will head for room 11. Awesome job!
Brilliant. Not many conversations contain the words genie lift, plinth, and bespoke. In my industry we see lots of lifts, hanging lights and sound so it’s familiar yet incredibly different. I love it
Fascinating, thank you. Surprising that the equipment is bespoke - every major gallery round the world must need to shift similar pieces so I’d have guessed there would be specialist designers who made for everyone. Any insights? Maybe we lead the field?
This is such an interesting video about the "secrets" of moving a majestic work of art, The work and care of the team are just wonderful to watch, This impressive painting is amazing andit is really a joy to watch your videos, thank you so much.
Fascinating. I agree with other commentators, the altar piece looks wonderful against the red wall. I have visited the NG many times, but am unable to do so these days, so I really appreciate the efforts that you make to produce your videos.
The red wall makes the piece far more dramatic. The gray wall washes the piece out. The Museum should consider leaving it in its new room. Even between the two doors it gives it more of an alter look.
More impressive in room 11 with the red wall. Interesting to see the workings of the gallery
Power and grace in machinery.
Looks better in the new location.

We couldn't agree more. More peeks behind the curtain to come!

It was a tight fight but our art handlers are the pros!
It's so interesting actually to see behind the scenes of the National Gallery, Art is always worth it.
So glad you enjoyed the video, Philip. More to come soon!
A new level of appreciation comes when you step behind daily curtains like this. There are many ways to love art. Thank you NG staff.

Thank you for watching, Mary. More behind the scenes videos to come!
such a nice wall color behind that altarpiece.

Glad you enjoyed it, Jim! More to come soon!

Is there something securing it to the wall? It seems like if there weren't, it would be in danger of just toppling over.

An excellent video! Thanks! Filippino would have been fascinated to see it.
We agree!
I would have had a major anxiety attack moving that painting, nicely done gentleman. Looks much better in the new room with the red background.
They have nerves of steel!
