@@VirtueRUclips No, I get it. Great job, doing your part! ;) Not sure how but DreamWorks managed to make something special happen here and I think it's worth letting them know "More of this quality, please!". I just said it because some people actually have hate-reviewed this movie because it's too popular or whatever weird excuse.. I felt like I had to reiterate that this work does indeed deserve the praise.
The big thing for me, that I don’t see many people talking about is that after the final fight with the wolf. The wolf turns to the cat and says ‘ you know we will meet again’ I think this line really brings home the message of the film. The cat says Si, he knows the wolf will return at some point, but he’s accepted that this is part of life. This one word gave me goose bumps as it’s something we all have to accept, but many people in world struggle to accept it
i think why death works so well is because he is fearsome he is death incarnate theres nothing you can do to stop him so when you meet him theres the respect that hes omnipotent to everything
yep the finality of what everyone will meet one way or another, a manifestation of what all life comes down to and why we should cherish it while we're here
6:22 Is easily the best way I've seen a video portray how Death is used in this film. He shows up for a quick scene then is gone again and you almost forget about him.
The way they introduced that Death was very capable of killing Puss on the spot is what made him terrifying. Puss didn't have the balls to fight him yet so everytime he was on screen it was like his life was on the line and only went on defensive as if he fought Death again he might generally die. Specially that fucking whistle.
I love how while everyone is calling death a Villain, he's not really that. He's a natural consequence, a part of nature no one can escape He doesn't serve to be *evil*, or bad, he serves to humble puss and make him realize there's more to life than what he's been making of it It's such insanely good writing
The thing is.. he is in fact a villain in the movie, he might be a natural consequence, but his *goal* wasn't to humble Puss. Death was straight up going out of his way to kill Puss, which isn't what he is supposed to do.. If we count his INTENTIONS of killing Puss, he is in fact a villain He is even upset at the end for "playing" with his food and accidentally making Puss realise something 🤔 that wasn't his goal, he didn't do things with that in mind, he just hated Puss and wanted to kill him Not only that, but during the whole movie he is taunting and psychologically torturing Puss, if he is a natural consequence and just doing his job, why would he do that?
while there's some grey area, I mostly agree with this! I just wanted to keep this video relatively spoiler free which is why I never refer to him by his true name and I frame the way I talk about the character from how they introduced him to what is revealed later.
Technically, only 1 villain - the other 2 are antagonists, for sure, but not actually villainous. But, yeah, there are four completely separate factions and all of them get just the right amount of screen time to keep them relevant and never overstay their welcome. The script is super-tight and everybody should study it to learn how it's done.
Definitely one of the best Dreamworks movies yet, only one I can think of that rivals it is Kung Fu Panda, and in terms of all animated movies, I think Rango barely beats it.
@@Arxareon All three of them are great, but the first two are something special, especially KFP2. That movie will always make me cry. PiB2 is the only other Dreamworks movie to make me cry since. Great review! The panic attack scene had no right being as accurate as it was. They tied in Perrito as a therapy dog extremely well, which shows how much thought went into writing/foreshadowing.
This movie was also released partially under the shadow of Avatar 2 and in the part of the year where they release their "meh" movies. It barely got any promotion or advertisement STILL, it's this popular almost solely by word of mouth/the internet!
Between this and The Bad Guys, DreamWorks has managed to turn itself around after several years in a creative rut. Disney meanwhile, it got too comfortable. This film is not only one of DreamWorks' best movies in years, but one of DreamWorks' best movies, period, and IMHO the best film in the Shrek franchise since Shrek 2.
this movie actually genuinely as a young adult changed the way I view how I live my life and what exactly im living for, even if only a little. that's extremely commendable especially for a movie "for kids". it's hard to believe but you know, it's easy to forget how perspective changing movies can be with how they're typically directed these days. but movies, even and especially kids movies, can have important, perspective setting and life changing messages, and I'm glad this movie thought so too

One of the few movies that actually surpasses the hype. I was going in to this movie thinking it couldn't possibly be as good as everyone was saying it is, but it was better than what everyone was saying it is.
When I first saw the trailers I was like "Art looks neat but I can't see how this will actually be anything more than an average movie" especially because the first one was fun but nothing special. But I really enjoyed it so I wanted to check it out. And then a few weeks before I actually managed to go to the theatre I started seeing so many good reviews and then I was hyped. And it is definitely worth the hype, one of my favorite animated movies to come out in the last few years.Great story, great character work and great art/animation direction.
One huge message I got from the Last Wish was actually about loneliness. Part of Puss's obsession with his legend status is that it is literally all he has and the movie shows the value of finding connections with others instead of getting lost in your solo journey or legend. It's an issue seldom talked about but this is one of the loneliest generations of adults in history, and that message on the value of abandoning this solo mythology and to find friends and family is poinient, at least for me. At the end of the day, a masterpiece movie is one where everyone can read into it a dozen different themes or lessons, instead of it being a publicity stunt or propoganda.
yeah, this is a really good point. The way it talks about valuing life through the people we love, the people we're close to, and being brave enough to share our experience with others and let them share with us even if we make mistakes sometimes. It's certainly powerful.
...This is honestly a really good way to sum up this movie. Man, I'm so happy that despite all odds, yet another movie came out that everybody unanimously loves and agrees on that it deserved all the mainstream attention it got...

Yeah and the difference is completely realistic, in the 2011 movie they just met, hence the flirting while in the 2nd movie their behavior is totally different due to the fact that the relationship went as far as them agreeing to marry eachother, that's why there is the married-couple behavior.
Honestly I love this movie as I can't stop talking about it. It is that good. I am glad that I saw it in theaters. Yeah there was Avatar 2 movie but that I didn't want to see because it was basically retelling of the same story as the first. This movie took risk and people feel things from it. So I enjoy it and want to buy a copy of the movie.
i remember whrn i was 7 years old or something my grandfather would put the puss seties on the tv for me and my cousin to watch. this movie reminded me of many good memories i had with them. although these are memories I never wanted to think about, this movie hasade think otherwise.
One way the movie is 'underyped' is with merchandise. See the movie, have kids like it, and say they want something in terms of merchanidise. A Toy, an action figure of one of the charcters, one of those Funko-pop figures. A video game based on it...and you know what is avaialble? Virtually NOTHING. Walk through the Walmart Toy dept, I didn't see a single thing. On Amazon, there are some posters and a small selection of stuff you can buy from the last movie a decade ago. That is it. So, you know a movie, particularly a cartoon, is UNDERHYPED when you are disappointed at how LITTLE merchandise is available for it.
ohhh you might be onto something, I saw they are having an early blu-ray release which is like weird cause it's already available to stream but I'm sure some people will buy it and have it make a profit still but it is kinda crazy they don't have any merch, it is an unexpected blow up though
giga long answer? noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
I am going to watch the movie for a 2nd time. For me it was needed. A silly little movie on the surface I could laugh to but then think about for days later when considering all the details and story that make it up. imo it is not underrated at all but is setting the expectation for the film industry in the coming years after its fallen apart. I could probably talk for hours about it but this will do for now
As the saying goes: All villians are antagonists but not all antagonists are villains. Death & Goldilocks are antagonists, but Jack Horner? He IS the villain
I would say it deserves this praise but this movie also did started the “Dreamworks is better than Disney” trend so that’s my only problem. People can be so closed minded these days ong
Kid Danger: *wearing his big trucker pup outfit* for somepony who only saw this movie ONCE, i have to say, i freakin love it! *has hearts in his eyes* The action! The drama! The fighting scenes! The amazing and beautiful animation of the fighting scenes! The loving connection between Puss in boots and Kitty solfpaws! They are my freakin' favorite animated couple!
I wouldn’t consider ‘Death’ to be a villain. He is a force of nature and basically is doing his job. You could also argue he still is a villain because puss isn’t dying but death thinks he should die since he wasted his previous 8.
yeah, i could agree with this, some of the stuff he did early in the film was a bit cruel but it is what it is. I talk about him in the video in a way that I hope avoids spoilers for most people
I watched it, and... I don't know, it wasn't has good as people made it to be, some jokes were meh, and dog character felt forced in certain scenes, and kinda annoying. The animation was amazing, and I think that's where most of the hype come from. The death character was cool, jack horner was cool, the three bears and goldilocks were ok. So many people said this movie was amazing and better then the first movie. The movie was ok. Me my siblings and my boyfriend watched this, and we all agreed that the movie was good, but not as good as people made it to be.
I respect it, everyone's interpretation of the movie will be different and some of these points I agree with but there are a few messages and scenes in this film that elevated it to meet my expectations. Then again, I don't really build super high expectations going in usually makes the xp worse imo
the hype was deserved but this move comming out 3 moths after it released in america made it near imposible to avoid spoilders so watching it wasn't as magical as it should have been for me . great movie however i would have prefered it come out earlier here
I guess I’m not only one feel that way fear of death. I recently loss a relative. Being anxious rethinking meaning of life. It’s good to know I’m not the only one.
If anything it's not hyped enough. Dreamworks sadly always gets overshadowed and with the recent decline in animated movies' quality, it's not getting its fair praise as much as it should.
there is a *HUGE* difference between something that is Overhyped by the media & something that is just so brilliant it actually deserves the Hype. example for a movie that is Overhyped *Prey.* that movie had a good concept but something I don't think a lot of people understand something is not just perfect because it has a good concept, if the movie sucks then the concept truly means jack. I had the displeasure of having to sit through that whole movie and it was fucking horrible, the writing, the characters, the predator, nothing in the movie made it worth watching yet it was fucking everywhere people giving it 10/10 left and right. and it pissed me off so much it made me hate that movie even more. I'd actually rather watch *Human Centipede* then to see that shit again. (and I'll never watch that movie... ever) and an example for a movie that is just so brilliant it actually deserves the Hype *Puss in Boots: The Last Wish*. I'm not gonna say why this movie is great cuz we just watched a vid where Virtue did just that, but if you also saw the movie you would've seen why its so hyped and how it actually deserves it, and just god this movie really just did everything right, it was so refreshing to see this movie finally, we truly had some shit movies this year but Puss in Boots 2 was not one of them by any stretch of the imagination.
Perrito is just brilliant writing Everyone went into theaters expecting him to be the cliche annoying character, but ended up being the most adorable character in all of animation. I would literally hire Death to Murder anyone who dares lay a finger on that puppy
When you go through movies like SuperPets, SpaceJam and Tom and Jerry this comes off as Citizen Kane. This movie is mid af. Compared to Shrek, Toy Story, Up, etc, is just good movie you watch one and put away. This movie is Gen Z wanting a GOAT and grasping at anything they can claim.
I was about to see it today but I can't stand A row seats which were all that's left so I just went to a movie with F row seats open instead, maybe I'll see soon
i love puss in boots but the last wish.. is horrible in my opinion. its absolutely not puss in boots concetpt, the practicly stolen graphics, unnecessary villian cause he aint got no meanin to be there.. the idea of the story is nice, but its all just full of super unrealistic extra action fights and all the extra magic stuff all over it. The whole story is predictable from the begining and it was really boring to watch. it makes me sad because puss in boots was my favourite childhood film. I watched the first film just right after the sequel and i swear it was so much better to see an actual story instead of a bunch of fights and magic shit. also the end doesnt make sense if you think about it..
100% the first movie was so much better, the only people who loved this movie were little kids that know nothing about the shrek universe and clout chaser who want to appeal to those kids, and kitty softpaws is so horrible in this, Jack horner, and a few shrek references were the only good part.
you all need to understand the difference between antagonists and villians. Death is not a villian, because death comes for everyone. Jack is the villian because they have to stop him from making the world a horrible place. GOLDIE and the bears aren't villians, they are rivals, as they are competing for the wish, but aren't trying to make the world evil.
i talk about him as a villain because he is framed as such at the beginning of the film, trying to avoid spoilers for those who want to watch the vid but have not seen it yet.

He may not be scary, but he surely is intimidating.
This was a really great video essay! It's obvious that you're really passionate about the movie. Keep it up!!
thank u !
Yes. It is.
short answer no
long answer? Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
giga long answer?
noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
I bought it on iTunes just to watch but now I'm seeing it in the theatres tomorrow. And I'm going to buy the physical copy when it comes out.
I’ve seen this movie 6 times in theaters , idk it just itches all the spots in my brain
I am going to watch the movie for a 2nd time. For me it was needed. A silly little movie on the surface I could laugh to but then think about for days later when considering all the details and story that make it up. imo it is not underrated at all but is setting the expectation for the film industry in the coming years after its fallen apart. I could probably talk for hours about it but this will do for now
I mean it's like a breath of fresh air.. that's why everyone love it so much
Not overhyped. People are just excited to have something good to watch again
agree !
Great video. This video is probably my favorite out of all of yours currently
thanks the goal is to get better every vid!
As the saying goes: All villians are antagonists but not all antagonists are villains.
Death & Goldilocks are antagonists, but Jack Horner? He IS the villain
for sure, just wanted to avoid spoilers where possible in the vid!
I would say it deserves this praise but this movie also did started the “Dreamworks is better than Disney” trend so that’s my only problem. People can be so closed minded these days ong
lol yeah people do have a tendency to want everything to be black & white
I talk about him in the video in a way that I hope avoids spoilers for most people
It’s a really good movie, but the reason it’s so hyped is not only because it’s amazing. But also because you rarely get movies like that anymore
When this movie has why better edgy dark dank jokes than velma 2023 ever could.
Right after I finish watching it I wanted to watch it again. I don’t normally like watching movies because I can’t focus on them.
Great edit when you’re talking and the audio fades out for the wolf whistle.
thanks !
Worth every inch of hype (unlike Endgame)...you know why?...because the hype came after the deliverance....not before...
Q: "Is This Movie Overhyped?"
A: Nope.
I can confidently say, its underhyped
truly great movie and it's deservedly killing box office/pop culture
Yeah, Avatar 2 completely overshadowed it. Which is a shame, since I like PiB2 more
the hype was deserved but this move comming out 3 moths after it released in america made it near imposible to avoid spoilders so watching it wasn't as magical as it should have been for me . great movie however i would have prefered it come out earlier here
I guess I’m not only one feel that way fear of death.
And you can already get it on DVD 😌
Answer: It's underhyped
Ima be honest I prefer Jack Horner to the wolf, he is just too good
Not saying the movie was bad It was amazing, but tbh people only talk about Because of Death
haha everything needs a hook !
Remember me when you're more popular (also you earned a sub)
there is a *HUGE* difference between something that is Overhyped by the media & something that is just so brilliant it actually deserves the Hype.
example for a movie that is Overhyped *Prey.* that movie had a good concept but something I don't think a lot of people understand something is not just perfect because it has a good concept, if the movie sucks then the concept truly means jack. (and I'll never watch that movie... ever)
and an example for a movie that is just so brilliant it actually deserves the Hype *Puss in Boots: The Last Wish*. I'm not gonna say why this movie is great cuz we just watched a vid where Virtue did just that, but if you also saw the movie you would've seen why its so hyped and how it actually deserves it, and just god this movie really just did everything right, it was so refreshing to see this movie finally, we truly had some shit movies this year but Puss in Boots 2 was not one of them by any stretch of the imagination.
its overhyped
puss and boots 2 is overhyped
Perrito is just brilliant writing
Everyone went into theaters expecting him to be the cliche annoying character, but ended up being the most adorable character in all of animation. I would literally hire Death to Murder anyone who dares lay a finger on that puppy
Amazing!
tysm !
You deserve more subs!
I watched it twice in the cinema :) absolutely justified.
This movie was SO UNDERHYPED
I think its a brilliant film! Not overhyped at all!
Legit my new fav animated movie.
Nah it’s not overhyped this movie is one of the most rewatchable movies imo, it doesn’t get old.
How do u not have more subs?!
I don't think it's over-hyped because the hype on it is 100% true.
Love the video and the bleach music 😫😫😫
haha had to throw it in
you mean incredibly good? yes
Saw the movie today. It was perfectly hyped and i really enjoyed the movie.
Yes
Short answer: Hell no
Long answer: FFFUUUUUUUUUCK no
I've gone and seen it twice. I wanna go again
i love puss in boots but the last wish.. is horrible in my opinion. its absolutely not puss in boots concetpt, the practicly stolen graphics, unnecessary villian cause he aint got no meanin to be there.. the idea of the story is nice, but its all just full of super unrealistic extra action fights and all the extra magic stuff all over it.
Nice opinion
This movie goes hard. Harder than necessary.
The hype was deserved i watched it 10 times
I've been to the theatre five times lol its great
i subscribed
you all need to understand the difference between antagonists and villians.
@@VirtueRUclips point taken. now I feel bad.
@@Brandon-ew9xx haha nw you dont gotta! just wanted to provide some context from my perspective
This movie is not perfect but it is pretty dang close
here before 512 subs
