During planting which is in August-September they cut the billets a bit longer and they are planted. Now that grinding (harvest) has started, these billets will be sent to the mill for processing.
Well, this machine pushes down the cane stalk, then it is cut by the base cutter blades and fed up through the machine to the chopper box. There, it is cut into pieces (roughly 10 inches) called billets. The primary fan blows out most of the trash leaves and the cane moves up the elevator and into the wagon. This brings me back so many memories when my dad would bring me inside the harvester when he was working

They should make a 4 row machine and put the jd18X engine in it...900 hp.

How are the billets used, are they processed into sugar or are they planted to produce another crop?
