What I appreciate about both Hashiras' backstories in this arc is the thematic connection about identity. Muichiro faced pressure from his brother, while Mitsuri was influenced by societal norms (being afraid to be judged by others) which leads both into hiding their real self or not pursuing what they really want. However, despite temporarily losing sight of what they wanted and succumbing to external expectations, they were able to regain their footing and pursue the path they really wanted, true to themselves. Hantengu's working in contrast to that. He's a liar living a life of lies while victimizing himself. I always felt that thematic structure is one of the strongest points of Kny writing. In the end, Mitsuri realized that her life is being controlled by others and not by herself. She recognized that she had been following a predetermined path set by others, causing her to lose touch with her own individuality. Her desire was for others to value her authentic self, and not "self" burdened by the expectations and pressures imposed upon her by external influences. Upper 4 called Mitsuri "abazure" (あばずれ) which translates to "loose woman". Crunchyroll just censored it. Genya's ability to eat demons is linked to other characters in the story who possess superhuman senses. Tanjiro got smell, Zenitsu hearing, Inosuke touch, Kanao sight, Genya taste.
I honestly really respect you for actually bothering to look into the writing and thematic stuff in KnY. It’s a popular shonen with a simple plot, so it’s super easy for people to immediately write it off as low-brow and overdone,l. When people do that, they refuse to read into anything nor explicitly printed out, instead sticking their heads in the sand and repeating the words “mid”, “plot armor”, and “carried by animation” over and over. But within its simple plot, Demon Slayer has a ton of depth, and a lot of things about it aren’t spelled out on a complete surface level. It’s really great, and I appreciate this breakdown a lot! I just wanted to share my appreciation for you with this comment tbh, lol.
Bro is literally a caricature of what I just said people do. Fans are allowed to appreciate the writing of the show, you can’t just state that it must be popular for its animation as if it’s an objective statement. Like, I doubt the manga sold absurdly well because of the animation. On that note actually, I love the upcoming manga stuff significantly more than what the anime had covered so far, because the writing and characters in the next couple arcs far surpass what some flashy animations could add to the previous (still well written) scenes.
There’s an explanation confirmed by the author as to why Genya blushes around Mitsuri-and it isn’t in any Taisho era secrets. It’s because Genya is entering puberty so he’s getting nervous around girls 😂 that’s also why he ignored her at the hotspring instead of yelling at her like he immediately did with Tanjiro.
Picture it. You're a demon. Super strong, fast, eat humans, the whole thing. You spot this tall mohawked kid and think "oh yay, food!" Then he looks you up and down and says "you'd be good with chili sauce." Like...what?
I absolutely love Mitsuri's backstory even though it isn't anything so grand, but just so wholesome and heartwarming. Just being able to accept who she is and be proud of who she is and being loved and cared for by the people around her being the Demon Slayer Corp or the Hashiras. She has found her place where she belongs. Probably one of my favorite waifu characters besides Nezuko of coarse! Also love her attacks they are so flashy and awesome! What a great episode! I cannot wait for you guys to react to the next episode! It is so good! I think once you see the next episode I think you will understand why it is short, but I do agree I would've loved more Mitsuri focus.

The hype for Kokushibo gets me excited, him being number 1 and having a sword. Akaza was toying with Rengoku so we probably get to see him in a serious fight since Muzan is probably entering “no nonsense” mode after losing 2 Upper Ranks so I can’t wait. We don’t know much about Doma but given the fact that the ranks are due to the inability to beat the one above you(I’m assuming since Doma said Akaza can’t beat him to take his place), if Akaza can toy with a Hashira but can’t hold a candle to Doma, I’m excited to see ol pretty eyes fight. Well more scared for the characters I like since this season has been waaay too triumphant but still
I like your points about Mitsuri's strength and how she's the last one to come in to save the day. And I don't think Tanjiro & Co. running off to defeat Fear detracts from that at all - because Hatred at this point has been established as a much bigger combat threat than Fear. Tanjiro & Co. were shown to lose to Hatred, and Mitsuri shows up and displays that she can single-handedly fight Hatred, so the power structure remains intact (Tanjiro + Genya + Nezuko < Mitsuri). It's really simply set up, but it's still effective when communicating the power hierarchy of the characters.

I'm sad the bros didn't at all talk about Mitsuri awakening her mark. They seemed to gloss over that despite upper 4 pointing it out. Her getting that should be an important clue that the marks are not a bloodline thing like they think it is, ANYBODY can get them. I'm also sad the bros completely glossed over how Genya's abilities work because that's really important. It would have been fun seeing them talk about it and what that means for his character. But there probably gonna be under the false impression he's half demon and never be corrected like with Nezuko's abilities.

I couldn't really describe why this felt so good in contrast to how western media have been handling "strong female protagonist" characters and I think you nailed it with the part about how it doesn't undermine the other characters. She appeared to do something only she is strong enough to do, which was badass as hell. But importantly, her role doesn't undermine the main characters of the story. It feels like that's what is being done so wrong with western stuff now. They don't let their "strong xxx protagonist" stand as a strong character like Mitsuri, they make part of that role include undermining all the other characters in the story and it just comes off as petty.
Tanjiro has super smell, Zenitsu has super hearing, Inosuke has super Tact.... And now it is revealed that Genya has syper taste. We're only missing super sight and then we're settled.
I'd be more appreciative of Mitsuri being an attack on shonen fans only viewing female characters skin deep, if in Season 2 Nezuko's demon powerup didn't make her tits expand and pop out of her shirt.
I love the actual combat but man this is when it really started dragging on with the dialogue. Every single time something happens a character says it out loud at least once if not multiple times...
