Just so we're clear, the title was Chyna's idea. Blame displaced!
We hate clickbait but you can't deny that it works
I would be mad at her, but her shirt is too cool.
Ever hear of Revenge Bedtime Procrastination?
🤣 It's great!
She's lucky we love her... and you... and naps!
Craig releasing a non-retirement video named retirement on the same day as Hank is such a mood
This is next to Hank's in my subscription feed
Who the eff is Hank?
@@gephc4 Hank Green, one of the brothers from the Vlogbrothers channel.
@@roofdogblues7400see but “who the eff is Hank” is a nerdfighter inside joke :) and now you are also in on it! Yay!
There's something in the water. Making everybody sleepy!
My wife is a napper. She thought she might have sleep apnea or it was related to her ADHD. She had a sleep study and… surprise 🎉 it’s narcolepsy. The more I have learned about narcolepsy the more I learned it isn’t what I thought it was. Interesting stuff.
I cackled so hard at "Craig, stop asking" 😂
Your sleep content is probably the most relatable content. Honestly, I'm a bad sleeper as well and if I didn't have to work 9-5 I would rock the biphasic sleep for sure.
I can't nap though.
If you do retire, I strongly recommend the Sit Less Than 4 Hours Challenge. It is what is says on the tin, as sitting longer daily promotes a lot of health problems. I personally wish someone had told me this when I was in my early twenties, but, there you go!
I'm a fan of the caffeine-nap; drink a coffee or other caffeinated beverage, then truck in for a 20 minute nap. Because it takes about 20 mins for the caffeine to kick in, you wake rested from the nap which wasn't long enough to enter REM states, and now you're energized!
Craig, I love you in a parasocial way. So I feel that as an audio engineer I should mention that taping off large parts of a shotgun mic windscreen is affecting the sound, making it sound boxy and less clear. Clarity is just a brandless windscreen away! 🙌 Thanks for being you, sweet beard man!
While the tape may have an effect I'm also doing a high pass because when I talk that close to mic it is really boomy. That might be the boxy effect you're hearing. But......... I kinda like it?
I also *had* a hard time falling asleep but I discovered an amazing trick (it works for me at least). So, I imagine myself in a situation that aids my brain into a dream. If you're so inclined .... imagining a situation of a 'dirty nature' might work but it doesn't even have to be that. I've just learned that imagining a home my wife and i saw once in an open house that I loved with a random maid (again, it's not dirty per se) or someone cooking. It's enough to get my brain thinking "who is the person ... what might she represent ... what might she say/do".
It is the single best tool to aid in my sleep, even more than the tart cherry juice or the sleep gummies (which are both pretty awesome when I need them)
Humans have biphasic sleep based on how long the night is. We need to sleep the same amount of time, but the night changes in length (depending on location), so during winter people woke up in the middle, when there is less productive sunlight time, and during summer they stay asleep more.
Damn you Craig! Clickbait! 😂
😬😬😬
@@wheezywaiter never dissappear craig, you're honestly one of my favourite people on this platform 🙌
It's what you got to do to survive on this platform...
CLASSIC WHEEZY!
I love naps, my children doesn't, so no naps for me. But I only need a nap on days that I had a bad night sleep, luckily it's not that often as long as the children are healthy.
As a cog in the capitalist machine and a fellow crappy sleeper/itinerant napper this video is perfect validation. Thank you.
That tombstone really puts the icing on this video
I really do wish I could nap after lunch everyday. I don't even need a long nap (that's when I feel terrible), just 30 minutes and I feel great for the rest of the afternoon. Works better than drinking coffee ever could. And I'm someone who sleeps pretty well at night.
Chyna wearing a Pizza John shirt made me smile!
I love the style of this video❤
Naps feel so good! Indulge and enjoy! Don’t let anyone shame you for napping. smart people take naps and recharge. ❤❤❤❤
Your video being right above Hanks video felt like way too much of a coincidence and now I'm afraid to leave the house for more scary coincidences.
I'm a never napper and I always feel like I'm not a good sleeper but for many years I've only slept for maybe five hours a night. On the rare occasion where I might sleep 8 or more hours, I feel so much worse than if I just get three/four hours of sleep.
I’m sure you’ve looked into this, but Delayed Circadian Rhythm. Having a kid makes it impossible to sleep late enough though. I take melatonin to help me go to bed earlier. Not full proof but it helps.
First of all don't retire ! And second of all naps are AMAZING!!!!
I’m older than dirt…..When I was a child, my sexual molester would strike in the night. It took me awhile to realize his ‘pattern’ of timing, until I realized he would visit my room between midnight and 2 am. Yep, I stayed awake, as he was relying on me being vulnerable to begin his nastiness while I was asleep. How did I do this? We (yes, I shared a bedroom with 2 slightly older sisters) had an alarm clock in the bedroom - one of those old crank style clocks. By age 8, I realized I could set the time for 11:30 pm, set it under my pillow to muffle the sound of the ringing alarm, wake up and stay awake for a few hours, and reset the clock for 6:30 am wake up to get ready for school. The molestation stopped when he realized I was fully awake when he came to my bedside. That, and the fact that I’d developed a nasty infection that required a visit to the doctor. How many 8 year old girls need a gynecological exam? Yeah, I remember having to take some orange-flavored ‘medicine’ for many, many weeks. The 1960s were horrible for me, until I figured out a way to stop being victimized. I continued to do this when my two older sisters shared a room together, and my two younger sisters were moved into the room with me. On the positive side, I was able to study and complete college projects deep into the night, while my classmates fell asleep.
I love naps too
On the related topic to naps, what's your caffeine/coffee consumption like nowadays since the 3 month coffee detox?
dear god, the tombstone thing caught me by surprise and split my sides.
9:13 I see what you did there. Gonna go listen to ok computer now.
Huge nap fan!
A lot of health care professionals would / could be concerned over your apparently life long sleep problems, but as long as you can recognize the smell of peanut butter through both nostrils, then nap away, I say!! As long as you fulfill your sleep requirements inside of a 24 hr. cycle.
Very excited about this declutter and graphic novels vid. I’m glad your napping and not retiring, I’ve been following you for so long it’ll be incredibly weird when you stop, but I’m glad it’s not today 😂
I'm really enjoying the new format here wheezy!
Also, big napper here. If my schedule allows, and especially if I am up early, a nice 30-45 minute nap in the early aft makes my day 100% better.
Man, I just cannot nap. I have a hard enough time going to bed at a reasonable hour. When I was laid off I slipped into a 30/12 hour cycle. Sometimes I slept at night, sometimes in the morning, sometimes in the afternoon. I just went to sleep whenever I got tired, slept for about 12 hours, then got up and stayed away for another 30ish hours.
My friend just monitored her sleep with a little device on her finger and turns out she does have sleep apnea. There were no other indications of it, she would not have known if she didn’t do the sleep test thingy. You should do it just in case to fully rule it out.
What category am I in where naps can often ruin bedtime, and I take a long time at night to fall asleep even on a good day-but I’m really really good at sleeping in in the morning?
We kinda grew up together, We love you ❤🎉😢😊
I’m just here to appreciate the “I’m just Pizza John” shirt which I also have and wear as pjs
You are describing my love for naps and sleep habits perfectly, even down to the soduko.
Come on
My heart literally skept two beats 😅😢
Turn the blue light off your phone, it's fine
I LOVE NAPPING and I am SO BAD AT IIIIT!
I am a great sleeper and a terrible napper, or maybe I just nap immediately after sleeping.
Next time I'm tired at work I'm going to tell my boss I need a brest. Thanks for the advice as always Craig!
If I took an hour or so long nap I rarely feel refreshed and more like groggy but seriously give me 15-30 min and I feel like I slept another day.
I have ADHD and my partner can instantly nod off. Its quite common. This isnt medical advice, just speculation. Craig you 110% have adhd. Maybe you already know this. Maybe im wrong and projecting. But whenever you talk about sleep issues or creativity it's spot on with adhd symptoms and the exact very things i also deal with down to partners who can instantly sleep. Its actually a common part of it. If you've been trying to hide it or keep it to yourself im sorry, it reminds me of the time Daniel Howell tried to insist he wasnt gay. Feel free to tell me im wrong but id love a confirmation in either direction. Parasocial relationships are weird when we talk about our problems and people think they know how to fix them but its simultaneously actively shared info and none of my business.
😂😂I have to watch your videos at least twice, once for the content and again for all the fun add ons..."Maybe it's Maybelline." LOL. 10-15 minute power naps are the best!
Absolutely love you, your videos and humor. I'm with Chyna on this one.
maybe it's Maybelline 😅
Please don't retire
Keep'em coming and nap on my friend
Today I learned that people in medieval Europe slept in two phases. They went to bed at sundown, slept for a couple of hours, woke up around midnight, stayed awake for a bit to work or chill and then went to bed again until dawn. It changed when gas lamps became a thing and people stayed awake after dark longer.
Should have been a video about replacing a flat on ya car!
U had me in the first seconds ngl 😂
I have sleep apnea and it is so weird the random stuff that can contribute such as the size of your tonsils, hanging ball thing, thickness of your tongue. Also, there is central sleep apnea and obstructive sleep apnea. Most people think of obstructive but central is just literally your brain forgetting to breathe. My hubby never heard me stop breathing in my sleep ever though I did have a light snore. I was stopping breathing dozens of times an hour much to our surprise. Sleep studies are even being conducted at home so you might not even have to go sleep somewhere else for a night.
I'm like Chyna, hate naps, feel worse afterwards, but once I'm asleep at night I sleep like a brick.
This is the best “retirement” video
They even boost productivity, so logically most jobs should do it
My naps turned out to be sugar crashes. Went away with carnivore diet. Who knew? 😂
I didn't believe the intro for a second. All good Wheezy 👍
I want to retire, and also love napping! 😊
Did Craig just deny his daughter her blanket so he could keep his little sponsor bit. The commitment :')
No! I was just trying to teach her that she doesn't get to take things away from people for possessive reasons. She didn't need the blanket. She just suddenly wanted it because she saw someone else with it.
When you say your doctor doesn't think you have sleep apnea, what does he base that on? Have you taken an overnight oximeter test? I didnt think i had sleep apnea either. I didnt snore. Took naps. Loved my naps. Then i took the oximeter test, then the real sleep test at a sleep center. Guess what? Yep, sleep apnea. So onto a cpap machine. Guess what? No more naps. Just dont need them. Though i kinda do like the idea of them, just dont have to have them any longer.. no nap shaming from me, just awareness question.
Nap-roulette my most favorite game evaaaaa!
Ada doesn't like naps, but she will NOT tolerate anyone using her blanket, even if she isn't.
The only way I can fall asleep is reading until I doze off (without the bull), otherwise insomnia kicks in and I'm struggling for hours. I've always had trouble falling asleep (and staying asleep but less so), was always the last one to fall asleep, tried _everything_ and nothing worked (until books). In my case the cause is definitely the adhd. Wish I could nap. :(
Also very rude title, Craig, very rude.
do i cook the chicken so it doesnt move in bed?
"I Decided to Retire for a Month. Here's What Happened."
You had me good
I'm with Chyna
you awesome bastard lolz you got me like, Nooooooo! and Yeeaahhh! NAPS!!! xD ♥
So... I know Craig's got bad sleeps. Might'v influenced the napping, who knows. But, also... maybe the napping is contributing to the bad sleeping?
I like naps
Ding!
I would hard boil the egg... 🥚
Man, you scared me there
Clearly all of us would nap more if we had clones. Do you still have clones? I miss your clones.
Have you been to a sleep specialist?
Look, Chyna is right. It’s just that simple. 😂
naps rule
Aw, where’s that anticapitalist “rest is resistance” rant that would be totally off brand for Craig? 😂
I love naps too! When I don’t nap, my husband says I “pulled and all dayer”😆
Stealing this 😂😂
I am absolutely delighted for people who enjoy naps. My spouse is one of them, I am not. No nap shaming here, they are just not for me. I also can fall asleep relatively easily and pretty much anywhere. Different sleeps for different peeps. Thanks for sharing!
“Night time keeps happening!” I can forgive the clickbaity title for this alone tbh. You crack me up, dude. Always manage to cheer me up. Thank you 💛 p.s. More Bunny, please!
We will miss you Craig 😢

From 1-2 on a semi daily basis
Hi Wheezy, remember that you can have a spectrum between a perfect airway and sleep apnea. You could have allergies, frequently enlarged tonsils, allergies, a deviated septum, enlarged adenoids or tubinates. I would recommend consulting a good ENT.
Nah it's just ADD..
You can also listen with a camera, like he did.
You posting this right after Hank Green posting about retirement is verrrrrrry interesting
Seems sus
you beat me to it
You never see them in the same room at the same time... :)
RUclipsr conspiracy theories are fun
AND Chyna wearing that John shirt
You should get a sleep study done! would be interesting to see if they find anything that causes your insomnia.
I did a sleep study. After all the hassle, the doc said, I guess you're just a really light sleeper.
Years later I got an ADHD diagnosis, which I would say is the most likely cause.
I second this! I didn't wake up gasping, I didn't snore. I just...wasn't going into deep sleep phases at all. Apparently it was because my brain would catch the apnea episodes before they could even manifest, literally a second or two, and would put me back into sleep phase 1 so I was half awake. We were only able to tell the underlying cause with a in-lab sleep study.
Me and all my family members were fairly certain I didn't have sleep apnea, that I just struggled with sleep. I absolutely have sleep apnea.
Yup. Craig’s description of how shitty he feels before a nap sounds just like a low dopamine moment to me (also ADHD, here).
Literally wanted to crawl back into bed on Thursday after taking my medicine and mainlining a cup of coffee. Then a friend called me and I was suddenly awake.
I think he may have talked about looking into this
I have central sleep apnea and literally he's describing my experience. I don't snore. My brain stops telling my body to breathe. I was waking up every ten minutes because my O2 dropped so low. CPAP has literally been life changing
I used to think that people who napped were lazy quitters. Than I developed an autoimmune disorder, along with having a lot of young kids at home, and a baby and chronically sick child who were up at night a lot. A sweet mom friend pulled me aside and told me that naps are crucial for moms to function. Napping was the most bizarre thing to me at first. I had to make myself do it and I felt so restless and lazy, until I actually fell asleep and napped. My friend told me to do it everyday for two weeks, and it changed my life. I was so far behind on sleep, I was always exhausted. After about a month of napping daily, I felt so much better!
Naps are the best! I see you, Craig. I validate your nap needs. 💤😴💤
For what it's worth. I didn't wake up gasping, I didn't snore. I just...wasn't going into deep sleep phases at all. Apparently it was because my brain would catch the apnea episodes before they could even manifest, literally a second or two, and would put me back into sleep phase 1 so I was half awake. So the moment I crossed phase II, it would kick me back to I. We were only able to tell the underlying cause with a in-lab sleep study. Sleeping with a cpap, has completely my eliminated my need for naps. There is a significant difference.
Just...If you are having sleep problems, even if you are "fairly certain" you don't have sleep apnea, just get a sleep study. Sleep study can find all sorts of things.
Naps make me feel disoriented, cranky, and more tired. So I only nap on airplanes and when I am sick. I am luckily a sleeping brick like Chyna. Thank you Craig for bringing Nuance to this controversial issue!
Agreed. I’ve always been jealous of people who can nap and what that must be like. Even if I set a timer for whatever is considered the ideal amount of napping, I still wake up groggy, with a pounding headache and confused.
Same here, I can't really fully nap and feel productive after.
I’ve discovered that if I very drowsy I can nod off pretty easy hit the trick is to wake up after like 20 min. When I was younger I napped long and too much but they were not refreshing.
loved seeing chyna wearing the "he's just john" shirt, i finally got mine yesterday! :-)
He is Johnough 😂
Naps are cool. I nap... sometimes... when I'm tired. Usually I wake up at night and write in my journal and talk to God. He and I have a good relationship. Then he helps me go back to sleep. 💤
Wow, thanks for the video. My sleep issues are similar to yours and my husband tends to sleep like your wife. The only thing that has helped my sleep is to read before bed, and when I wake up in the middle of the night (to use the bathroom), I have to make sure I don't start thinking. If my brain wakes up and I start to think about life, work, etc, I can't fall back to sleep.
“Just pee off the side” that one caught me off guard just as I was having a mouth full of water! 💦
One of the best! Talk about what you love!
And what's not to love about naps? Don't do 'em myself, but happy to support my wife, who does. Gives me peace to cook/create a dinner.
I've always had the same sleep issues as Craig and my followers like to (mis)diagnose me, too, but at least in my case, I'm pretty sure it's neurodivergence. I have a Very Noisy Brain that makes it hard for me to fall asleep, and I'm very sensitive to sounds, smells, light, etc., which makes it very difficult for me to stay asleep (and when I wake prematurely, I'm almost always tossing and turning at least an hour before my brain finally shuts up enough for me to sleep.) I find a repeated guided meditation helps shut up my brain (a story/fantasy I run through that's the same every time) and blackout curtains, smooth covers, lack of cats (T_T), an amazing pillow, and a fan are a must for me to stay asleep.
I also take naps daily, though I never fall asleep (it's impossible.) It's literally just to breathe, relax, hydrate my poor dry eyes, and listen to music (I find loud/fast stuff like metal to be the most soothing.) I'm sure Craig is tired of his fans trying to diagnose him, but I don't think I've ever heard him mention ADHD and I've often wondered if he's on that spectrum and if that's at least part of his sleep issues.
Hi @PrettyTranslatorSarahMoon! It's good to come across your comment randomly here. I used to watch your videos about translation :) I just visited Japan for the first time and thought of you. I also am very sensitive with the noisy brain, definitely my neurospicy flavRpak affects my sleep. Anyway, hope you're doing great and see you around.
I was diagnosed with hypersomnia, and I can't function without a mid-day nap. I am very thankful that my job allows me to take a two-hour break to eat and nap. They are very flexible, and I am so grateful for it!
I don't snore. My doctors also doubted that I have sleep apnea. The sleep study revealed moderate central sleep anea (my brain just stops telling my body to breathe). I always had a hard time falling asleep and staying asleep, and always clocked myself as a light sleeper. The study showed I would wake up every ten minutes because my O2 was dropping so low.
I trust you to know yourself best, just sharing my experience because your experience sounds so much like mine.
My CPAP literally had me sleeping like a rock through the night on day 2 and woke up alert. It's absolutely wild how much everything changed!
Have had terrible sleep my whole life. Always the last kid at the sleepover to fall asleep. Have had people telling me I need to improve my sleep hygiene/turn off blue lights/restrict my caffeine/take sleeping pills etc. etc. etc. as long as I can remember. Turns out, none of that was ever going to help, because the REASON I've always slept badly is because I had undiagnosed ADHD with delayed sleep phase syndrome. I'm not built for bedtime. My circadian rhythm is just kinda busted. Without life stuff forcing me to do otherwise, I will just slip into a 5am - 1pm sleep cycle. WITH life stuff, I will fall into a 5am to 10am nap cycle, with a half hour nap before dinner, and feel vaguely crappy the whole day. I can be in bed by 10pm every night, and I, without fail, will stay awake for HOURS, staring at the ceiling, hating every minute. It just absolutely shits me that the world won't just let me be a damn vampire and sleep when I'm tired!
I'm sorry we haven't figured out how to make room for the way your sleep works. I agree. It's stupid. Some people just sleep different.
Thank you for this. My body frequently insists on naps and I hate it. The naps are great, but I hate needing them not to feel like crap. So yes, I will actually schedule the sleep study that my doctor referred me to
I'm so happy I made productive decisions about my finances that changed my life forever, hoping to retire next year.. Investment should always be on any creative man's heart for success in life
That's awesome!!! I know nothing about investment and I'm keen on getting started. What are the strategies?
The first step in every successful investment is to establish your goals and risk tolerance, a task best undertaken with the assistance of a financial advisor with extensive financial market knowledge like Fergus Waylen
YES!!! That's exactly his name (Fergus Waylen) so many people have recommended highly about him and am just starting with him from Brisbane Australia
I don't want to put a figure to how much i've made doing that but let's just say it's more than enough to make trading worthwhile. And when i say worthwhile, i mean it.
I really want to get my life together. Really me and my family has been into series of hardship, we've faced a lot of trials and tribulations and my income is not just enough
I've been watching you for a while (I do wonder sometimes if you ever recognize my name in the comments) and I'm NOT sick about you talking about your sleep issues. But then again, I just enjoy listening to you talk, so it doesn't really matter what you talk about, I do also enjoy the interactions between you and Chyna. Keep up the good work and stay strong! ^^
