I had a very similar situation. I became very close to his family, spent my 1st Christmas with them, graduated high school, went and saw him where he was based in the Navy...and it all fell apart. Looking back, he was immature, and I say that kindly. He wasn't as committed as I was. I broke up with him. Cried the whole time waiting at my gate for my plane to take me home. I learned many things from that relationship. 🫂💙

Then poof--up in smoke. I went to my gate at the airport head hanging like a whipped puppy; her engagement ring in my pocket. Maybe I was the immature one? I got mad about something she did, she broke it off, and didn't give me a 2nd chance. Right now, we reconnected, since early 2017, but since a great restart, we got re-engaged, had some ups & downs, sort of broke up --thanks to her, and now we're just bumping along.

I have always felt that Sarah wrote this song to honor people suffering from Alzheimer's Disease. If you really listen to the words, you will see the relationship. And, yes, my Father did die from the complications of Alzheimer's, and I cry for him every time I listen to, "I will remember you. Will you remember me. Don't let your life pass you by. That is so sweet of you to say. It still hurts me, I am getting better day by day, but I am still hurting from the loss. You will never be ready for when your mom dies. The only thing I can tell you is hug her as often as you can, tell her how much you love her, talk to her, and even do things for her. You only get one mom, so you might as well enjoy her while you can. I did mine.
Listening to this on what would have been my sons 21st birthday, he was stillborn at half a week over due and this played at his funeral, I didn’t even get to hold him as an autopsy was performed which I never wanted done in the first place. To all the little ones that never were given a chance 🦋
