ICS is basically comprises of controllers which are used for controlling of a process, where as OT refers to the technology what is used in the plant to control and optimize the process.

At the field you will have sensors and the cable of sensors comes to the Junction box and from the junction box it goes to marshalling cabinets where you will have the controller cards. this is the overview of field cabling. In every plant you will have managed switches, Gateways and firewalls. in order to harden you system you need the cyber security solutions.

An overview of OT basics should suffice the requirement.
As it's a collaboration between Security Personnel and OT Personnel like it happens in IT.
Security Personnel is familiar with Cloud but need not be an SME at all.

The proprietary protocols are still in use & exist, but we can strive to standardize and work with OEMs for standard protocol support. Purdue is outdated, but you can take that model as a foundation and build your network security based on the types of factories & Scale.
