Economic liberalism in action. As someone who lived lived under a conservative government for 12 long years I can tell you it's the same in Germany. Social services were cut to death and the unemployment statistics are low because the cattle is being bullied into low-paying fixed-term jobs by the responsible public authority, but at least "the economy" is doing well, regardless of how the actual citizens are doing. And the social democrats were absolutely useless during that. There's a reason the greens are getting votes (literally) left and right.
Lets not forget it was a Labour government that got us into the financial mess that the tories had to get us out of. Although I don't really think slashing NHS and mental health funding is a great way to do it. I totally agree with you that I have no faith in the Tories or Labour and would probably never vote for either of them again. The Lib Dems embarrassed themselves with promises they couldn't keep in the coalition. I don't even know who i would vote for if there was another general election.
@@lewisarmstrong-lamb6380 Labour didn't get us into the mess - it was an international financial crisis (although bailing out private, for-profit banks was a bad solution by Brown) - and the Tories didn't get us out of it.
You guys are probably one of the only sources of news and information that I can think of that exists, well, anywhere and doesn't give an unbiased view. And if you do give your opinion, its expressed explicitly. Well done chaps! This is the sort of coverage the world needs, not just in politics but, across the board!
To put May's achievements in the shortest possible description: She has taken a party with a decent majority and made it dependent on the DUP for getting policies through. Otherwise she has failed utterly to address the Brexit issue in anything like a sensible manner essentially dooming the country to years of arguments on the issue and attempted to claim the achievements of her forebares as her own.
James Lewis the odds were against both in and out of parliament but her downfall was all of her own making. When she called a snap election she foolishly tried to implement seriously unpopular policies and she was pretty much doomed from that point on because it became too obvious that she was a fool. And once the house have noticed that they are less likely to conform with a leader that doesn’t have the intelligence to use foresight. The next leader should be a heavyweight brexiteer without a doubt. Dominic raab or boris johnson
Tomás Roma well they had to get the DUP on board simply because May had tried to implement unpopular policies such as legalising fox hunting and other such moral abominations. Obviously she was gonna lose a majority trying to put such controversial policies through. It became clear at that point that she was too foolish to be effective in negotiations.
In terms for jobs I also need to point out, if you are work 1 hour a fortnight, this government says you are in full time employment. This government alters figures and lies about others
On the housing issue, it doesn't help that the government (and the companies building the houses) doesn't want to build cheaper homes. They're running on the idea of trickle-down housing, and that's never worked. So they build lots of big and medium sized homes, then say that their budget was wrong to try and get out of building the social homes. It's awful
Its a profitability issue. I work in RE in the US and the issue is materials and labor make median income houses (in my area 125,000) unprofitable to build. The real money is in custom homes etc.
@@willhowson6627 There's a simple solution to that: non-profit house building (e.g. council houses for rent or to be sold to residents - not speculators or landlords - at cost).
Trickle down anything doesn't work. You'd think Conservatives would understand supply and demand. Greater supply of houses please. But then again, austerity. Whether its killing off the NHS or stopping construction of a tidal power station - doesn't make any sense either (even ignoring tax cuts for the rich). Supply to match demand? Building new infrastructure to stimulate business? No. Cool. 10 more years of slow death? Yes.
not only that, the houses are built with planned obsolescence in mind, i will be surprised if half the "new building" will stay standing in 20 years or so
Didn't she crush some saboteurs or something? Apart from that, her legacy is "Strong and stable" "nothing has changed, NOTHING" and the old classic byline "Brexit means brexit". Yes means yes, no means no, etc. She also did that nifty little dance once when walking on stage. Oh, and windrush. And Grenfell. Hostile environments. And those really expensive trousers she wore once. I think her legacy will show that her time in the home office and Downing st was a bit of a mess really.
Just think in 3 years we could have restructured our economy to implement a successful hard Brexit. Instead all we get is a barrage of propaganda "educating" us how terrible a hard Brexit will be (if we did nothing to prepare for it). Oh they did spaff a few million on some ferries or something as a pathetic joke. How did we ever survive WW2 let alone win it?
I'm reminded of this Spitting Image clip from around the time Thatcher fell. "Following his surprise resignation, on tonight's Special Edition of Spitting Image, will be looking at all the achievements of Sir Geoffrey Howe ... Right, moving on."
What I learned from this channel and googling stuff about the UK: Against weathers above 30 degrees celcius, the British are as strong and stable as Britain under May's leadership.
She was an average PM. She would have done well if she didn't step in after the brexit vote. She bit more than she could chew and paid for it. Didn't help that she kind of backstabbed brexiters though. So much for "No deal is better than a bad deal"
Damn Romans. Ruling our country from Rome. Taking our grain, giving us back these Emperor laws, and leaving us with ideas like aqueducts and roads. We should leave them and bring an end to the Roman Age. What was the next Age again?
If it wasn't for Brexit results it is highly unlikely May would have ever become PM. May chose to get into the role and should have known what she was getting into. Her leadership failed to successfully set a proper start and roadmap. She had poor political planning, she shot herself in the foot with the election she didn't need to have but was too egotistical to pass up the challenge. If she had been watching Australian politics she could have know the disaster she was likely unleashing but that was not to be She will be remembered as a failures with almost no memories of the other policies the UK has passed under her
Yeah but the fact remains that she took up the leadership of the country at a time nobody else wanted to take up leadership...Most Brexiteers like Farage and remainers alike like Camoron abandoned ship and ran away..
I know this is not a popular opinion but I think may has done the best she could, she seems to have been trying her best for this country and doing what she thought was the best path for the country. She had the hardest job to try unite a country and government split not only by parties but by Brexit and so for that she has my respect. Brexit itself has many negative impact but personally I don't think we should plaster those on may as her fault, we the people voted for it and she was trying to execute the way she thought we wanted which was impossible. I don't deny she has made mistakes but I think her commitment is admirable and she has my respect.
Don't go giving respect to some one time serving Prime Minister who was, and still is in the World Economic Forum. When a serving politician is a member of an interfering NGO such as the WEF, it is a clash of loyalties. She is a globalist.
When you say "several studies and measures now suggest ..." (12:05), can you please cite them somewhere? Unless you just refer to those you state in the video thereafter, in which case it's not really fair to say several, but "single", as you only cite the ONS as a source. I appreciate what you guys do, but having a citation list somewhere in the description would be a great improvement you can make relatively easily.
Is anyone going to point out that even with the DUP since members left for the independent group the conservatives have 313, adding 10 in a confidence deal doesn't take them over the majority threshold...
I'm surprised you left out the leadership challenge at the end of 2018. I would say the failure of that challenge (and the subsequent grace period as per conservative party rules) helped her stay in office way longer than she otherwise would have
She never stood a chance tbh. But, as it seems to be these days, the Tories could come out saying that they hate British people, and they would still earn a landslide majority. People will always support their favourite, no matter how damaging the party could be to the country….
How many adverts does one video need? It's extremely annoying when you are trying to pay attention to detail of the video and there is constant disruption... flipping heck! 😒
TLDR News - great video, thank you for your work! However if I'm not mistaken you seem to be using the words "deficit" and "debt" interchangeably here, when they're not the same thing. It would be great if you could make that more clear in future videos (or even make a video on it yourselves!)
In particular I'm referring to 11:35 where you say "It's only right as the economy begins to naturally recover that national debt levels become ever more managable", whilst showing the graphic of the fall of the *deficit*. Thanks all the same for these videos!
Also 'parliament' and 'cabinet'. 7.02 "[The Brexit Withdrawal Bill was] now backed by her new parliament". She never consulted the house and that turned out to be rather a problem!
I’ve been told that the numbers for unemployment gets smudged. Partly by zero hour contracts and partly by putting people on JSA onto “employability courses” where they can then say that person is “in training”
When she started coming out with statements like "Brexit means Brexit" and "I want a red white and blue Brexit". That was a clear sign of what was to come.
Have you replaced your microphone at some point recently? I'm not talking about the lower echoes in recent videos, I mean how much clearer it sounds now.
"Unemployment is at a record low" is something i find incredibly hard to believe when the gov has been proven to manipulate these in many ways. Realistically it is registered unemployment not pushed onto mandatory vocational training is at a record low. I'm curious what the unemployment rate would be if it included those who recieve financial aid to top up their earnings to a liveable rate
@@gentlemanvontweed7147 sorry buddy, but Britain can barely rule itself. It ain't ruling the sees any time soon. Not with the US navy around. And Corbyn 1) not Communist and 2) better than Farage
Simply put, she did what most politicians would do in her resignation speech: over-exaggerate the positives, selectively leaving out caveats and take credit for things she had little involvement in
I mean, the question is, what could she have done? She pretty much was screwed from the beginning. Screwed by her predecessor, screwed by her party, and yes, screwed by her own country. The British people voted for having their cake and eating it. May never had a chance to fulfill that demand.
Clearly she did DO something, but...but...but nothing really. MAYby a lot of talking and having an attitude of her plan or no plan(inflexibility). The UK is a mess.
The government can give itself credit for creating more jobs and a workforce of people who are chronically sick without a decent health service because of NHS cuts and privatisation, who are stressed out because of no access to public services which have either been privatised or funded by consumers, who are underpaid or on zero contracts (so that companies can make profit for their shareholders) and up to their eyeballs in debt (average UK household debt is 147%) and who are *so utterly frustrated* that they are willing to *listen to people like Farage and co* . So May and her government have achieved quite a lot. None of it of any good to most people, unless of course, you're rich. And the people don't even realise any of this perpetual misery because all the pent up frustration is focused on a meaningless Tory bitch fight over Brexit and "fighting" so called immigration while the *real* problems are blissfully ignored. When is the nightmare going to end?
I'm confused as to whether the figures starting around 10:20 refer to debt or deficit - two very different (albeit related) measures. You seem to be using the terms interchangeably, but they're really not the same thing (any more than position and speed are the same).
Could you link articles to the various bits you are referencing? For example, the Barnier taking apart the red lines bit? I found articles from Jan 2019, but that sounds too late in the timeframe.
Nothing. People voted to leave the EU and what she gave the people was the UK still a part of the EU but without the ability to vote in anything the EU does. So her plan was to turn the UK into a colony. Good job!
Although, May did join the remain side, it was after Tusk came to UK, Cameron asked Tusk to get May on side; this was in documentary: Inside of Europe, 10 years of turmoil: we quit.

Clearly, she didn't achieve anything except putting the Welsh independence movement into the mainstream, albeit still small and creating a catalyst for the creation of the Brexit Party. Far from protecting her beloved union, she and her fellow party cronies have probably actually damaged it. However, I will say this for her. I do believe that she did put 100% effort into what she was doing and whilst it was clear that her abilities were not suited to tackling the issue at hand and that effort was misplaced, I don't think anyone can accuse of her of being lazy. That doesn't mean that I supported her, do support her or ever will, but her tenacity and strength I do respect. No matter how experienced you are or how senior in the government you are, she is, like us human, and it must have been very hard at times to continue forward after the press/media, politicians and the general public had voiced some very strong opinions on her and torn her to bits. Sometimes bordering on the vicious. Even though, at times she clearly brought it on herself. Nevertheless, the fact remains that the time since the 2016 referendum has ultimately been wasted and it is only right and proper that she takes responsibility and steps aside as she has done. Very soon, there will be a new Prime Minister in 10 Downing street although I strongly suspect, the only thing that will be achieved is that the country will have swapped problems. Nothing more and nothing less. The upcoming months are likely to be pretty much as the past few months and we will either crash out of the EU at the end of October or Parliament will cancel BREXIT. What will ensue in the latter scenario is anyone's guess, but I doubt it will be pretty.
1/6 of time was spent on Brexit - what were they doing the rest of the time? What laws and policies were introduced/altered/eradicated while May was in power? THAT'S what I want to know. What were they doing while everyone else was distracted/misdirected by Brexit?

In a strange sort of way history will say it provided us with a government that actually got Brexit done and we Leave the EU in every sense and not just name only.
In term of Brexit? her best achievements are : (1) unravel what is the real desire of the house of commons: not wanting Brexit, that MPs in Westminster do not give a damn about what their constituents want; (2) show that two-party system is a failure because the party members are only care about the party, not the country. In the end, MPs just want her to kick her out, no body really cares about what to do next with the Brexit nor how to deal with the EU.
Claiming unemployment is at its lowest is a fallacy, 0-hour contracts = you are employed, even if you go several months only working 4 hours a week, Volunteering = employment, the statistics around unemployment is heavily skewed. Go back to 44 years ago, employment meant working 16+ hours a week and not needing government top up. To say we are at an all-time low is extremely deceptive
You've confused the deficit with our debt. The deficit is the difference between government spending and revenue, which is what May talked about in her speech and is genuinely nearly eliminated. The nation is the sum of previous deficits and is the amount we owe as a country. The two are fundamentally different things and you shouldn't be confusing them.
Voted to Remain (crucial)- somehow managed to end up in charge of Brexit negotiations (which she infuriatingly insisted on pronouncing as if the word was spelled 'negociations')- banged on a great deal about Strong and Stable leadership- brazenly lied a great deal more about us leaving with or without a deal on March 29th of March 2019 despite having no intention whatsoever of us actually leaving (and quelle surprise....)- & then cried just like Maggie did when she was forced to give up her power. Continuous sabotage and betrayal- endlessly kicked the can down the round until she was stopped because of the damage she was causing the reputation of her shitty political party. Mark my words- Her successor Boris is sure to play the same game albeit in a less transparent way.
Where I live there's now only one PC and one CSO on duty at any one time, serving a population of over 20,000 people, while our Council Tax has gone up. Thanks, Theresa!
Seems like gender gap reporting is "in". Here's a few other areas we could apply it to: * Criminal courts report their sentencing gap * Family courts report the gap in custody and visitation rights * Hospitals and family doctors report the gap in their patients' mortality rates * Teachers report how gender biased their grading are * Feminists organizations who demand quotas in leadership positions report their gender gap in leadership positions * Media report how much they focus on men's vs. women's issues * Etc. Naturally, all these reports serve to identify "problematic" areas so we can take constructive counter-measures to improve "equality". For instance, one court might convict more male burglars than female so we reduce funding and send more of the accused to other courts instead. If most of them are either one gender or the other, there is clearly also a problem among the police so we will take similar measures there. Some of you might claim there can be other reasons than discrimination to explain these differences or that these counter-measures might do more harm than good, but that's a slope slippier than your mom's bum hole. Next thing we'll be saying the same about the gender pay gap and we can't have that, now can we?

I've also been a carer for a less supported mother and my wife was crapped on by the education system the government had instated (specifically as a new teacher in an academy opened by Cameron)
So I can feel a lot of sympathy for your situation
I hope that you are now getting the support you need
She didny really have a decent majority to begin with. It was pretty narrow.
The party is trying to get boris out of the picture.
Cult Fiction I was referring to before the 2017 election.
In terms for jobs I also need to point out, if you are work 1 hour a fortnight, this government says you are in full time employment. This government alters figures and lies about others
the government reduced unemployment by cutting benefits and using sanctions to coerce poor people into accepting exploitative jobs
+MalcolmCooks Absolutely a victim of this.
@Lorem Ipsum I'd rather sit on my arse all day than work for 5/hour.
@Lorem Ipsum your a idiot look up how many people have died from the role out of universal credit it's disgusting
What did May do? Well... she May have done something ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
This guy 😂🤣🤣🤣
ayyy lmao
The farmers sure didn’t appreciate her leadership, all those damaged fields of wheat. 😔
Nothing.
Unless you count more tax cuts to the already rich.
It's awful
Same thing happening all over the USA.
Yes.
not only that, the houses are built with planned obsolescence in mind, i will be surprised if half the "new building" will stay standing in 20 years or so
What did May do? Sweet f*** all.
Raised poverty and crime?
Yea her government managed to kill over 100k brits from the role out if universal credit

Against weathers above 30 degrees celcius, the British are as strong and stable as Britain under May's leadership.
She was an average PM. She would have done well if she didn't step in after the brexit vote.

Didn't help that she kind of backstabbed brexiters though.

@@DivingDog0 - The Arthurian legend, good for tabletop RP I guess, otherwise...
Only in Britain is “a bloody difficult woman” a compliment.
If she had been watching Australian politics she could have know the disaster she was likely unleashing but that was not to be
She will be remembered as a failures with almost no memories of the other policies the UK has passed under her
Yeah but the fact remains that she took up the leadership of the country at a time nobody else wanted to take up leadership...Most Brexiteers like Farage and remainers alike like Camoron abandoned ship and ran away..
This is a comment I can approve of and apply to most youtubers!
Thank you for this TLDR News. This was a great video!
Is anyone going to point out that even with the DUP since members left for the independent group the conservatives have 313, adding 10 in a confidence deal doesn't take them over the majority threshold...
323 with Government and C+S, with a proper majority requiring 320.
650 - 7 (Sinn Fein) - 4 (Speakers) =639 voting members
I'm surprised you left out the leadership challenge at the end of 2018. I would say the failure of that challenge (and the subsequent grace period as per conservative party rules) helped her stay in office way longer than she otherwise would have

Soon we’ll be writing essays about the fall of May.

Bugger all..
And she was very good at it.
She never stood a chance tbh. But, as it seems to be these days, the Tories could come out saying that they hate British people, and they would still earn a landslide majority. People will always support their favourite, no matter how damaging the party could be to the country….

I love this page so much. Nothing but pure facts, no political bias, and rips apart all the nonsense of the current state of UK politics.
Clearly she did DO something, but...but...but nothing really. MAYby a lot of talking and having an attitude of her plan or no plan(inflexibility). The UK is a mess.
More to the point, what didn't May do? She didn't deliver Brexit like she promised over and over again.
Queue the brexit means brexit montarge!

A very kind summary of a very mediocre party politician.
She was a caretaker PM, which would have been fine if the building wasn't on fire.
Because its not opinion based and more fact based as it should be
Clearly, she didn't achieve anything except putting the Welsh independence movement into the mainstream, albeit still small and creating a catalyst for the creation of the Brexit Party.

It began to unravel the day she took the oath. She inherited a hot mess that no one had thought through

Excellent summation. What an unremitting mess we are in.

Seems like gender gap reporting is "in". Here's a few other areas we could apply it to:
* Criminal courts report their sentencing gap
* Family courts report the gap in custody and visitation rights
* Hospitals and family doctors report the gap in their patients' mortality rates
* Teachers report how gender biased their grading are
* Feminists organizations who demand quotas in leadership positions report their gender gap in leadership positions
* Media report how much they focus on men's vs. women's issues
* Etc.
