I only clicked on this to see if you had any options for my Irish Discovery 3. I was crushed along with the metaphoric one you drove to the scrap yard. I love the car, love the size, the comfort, have it on steel springs and it does everything I ask including towing 3 1/2 tonne boat. I drive it on crap roads and pull a horse box into a field occasionally. I guess when the engine pops it pops. Sad if you ever do make a conversion kit, (om606 in particular) I would certainly buy it.
I love my D3.. the defender is a donkey.. you can't polish a turd but these guys can roll em in glitter.. Leaky cold noisy shite I've had 3 of them I know what I'm talking about..

Hi from Australia! I have a question for Dave and the lads in relation to brakes, wheels and tyre combos. For predominately off-road use what brakes, wheels and tyre combos do you recommend for a M57 Defender conversion, irrespective of whether you go for the auto or manual gearboxes. Assuming a mild M57 engine aimed at reliability rather than massive HP and torque, what size brakes can you get away with (can you keep your OEM LR brake setup), what size wheels (16 or 17) and what tyre size? With all this in mind, what LT230 gear set do you recommend? Thanks for the great vids!

I have been in the Defender trade here across the pond since 2012. The market for Defenders here has shifted quite a bit into custom work/builds. If you would consider an associated presence here in the States I would love to work something out with you guys. We currently, have 17 Defenders in inventory and just got them imported last year. A dream would be to convert them into Mahker USA builds.
What engine would you recommend for touring round Australia and America? What suspension would be best for offroading and touring? How much would it be for a new rebuilt TD5 engine
Do you have a recommended powertrain for a LandRover that has a Non Electronic control system... that is a purely mechanical diesel engine and a manual gearbox?
Can you program the Dakota dash to show the right mileage for the vehicle or does it have to start from zero? Any chance of having the MT82 mated to a 200tdi?
As you say, horses for courses. I run 4.75 Ashcroft diffs with 36" tyres and a 1.44 LT230
