  • Lissaniska ringfort is a trivallate enclosure on the outskirts of Milltown village, Co. Kerry. It was part excavated in 2017/2018 in advance of the construction of the N70 Kilderry Bends road project by Archaeological Consultancy Services Unit, on behalf of Kerry County Council and Transport Infrastructure Ireland. In this video, Excavation Director Ed Lyne describes the significant discoveries made during this excavation, including the only preserved sheaf of flax ever found on an Irish early medieval site, and the recovery of carved and stave-built wooden vessels from the waterlogged deposits of the inner enclosing ditch.
