- I did a livestream of my entire Amsterdam Dance Event performance at de melkweg in Amsterdam. I had been sick as a dog for a week so I took it a bit slow. eventually I couldnt help myself so I brought some chaos in the mix. was fun. lets do it again sometime!

I'm going to open a cable shop next to where this man lives
Specifically Patch cable shop 😂
@@Eli_Mastaine FUCKING IGNORANTS.
He lives at a cable shop bro
,🤣🤣🤣😂
😂😂😂
This is the most spellbinding and fascinating live performance I've come across in years. What an absolute triumph of both man and machine.
It’s so spellbinding and fascinating that the crowd is hypnotized and paralyzed... slightly moving like leaves in a gentle breeze
Colin is consistent in his performance and across genre
It’s fake
Its pure
just by the usage of words by the people commenting on this video I can tell most of them are interested in/related to music production! I would say those in the front of the stage are synthfreaks producers too, not dancing but listening
hahahah
Totally! thinking about the modules:
-"hmm is that a intellijel atlantis?"
-"I know this VCA!"
-"best way to use this ramp down LFO"
Good vibes Santi !!!
exactly
Hm, never looked at this that way. I'd probably be one of them, arms crossed, enjoying the wall of sound:)
For sure brother
Here's the passion and skills and not like some djs that just play cds or mp3 pretending they're twisting knobs...Hail to you Synth Master!!!!
Anyone else here in 2020 missing hanging out in close proximity with strangers in dark venues.
No but I miss live music...
Yes, absolutely. The close proximity, the loving glances, the mutual stomping, the common vibe, the closed eyes and total immersive personal experience that you have yourself and see others having when you break periodically from the trance - is all part of the experience. Yes, I totally miss my strangers in dark venues.
I miss it so much.
No!!
this ^^

The complexity behind a set like this is madness. I am very impressed. What an amazing set!
would love to see him showing his techniques & setup
Maybe hes just good at playing with knobs and drum patterns xddd
why are people bothered about the crowd?
some of the best music experience from shows i've had is just simply stopping. closing my eyes and letting the music do it's beautiful work.
the room is dark the vibe is set, this is not a dubstep show.
let people experience it how they want!
Also @Colin Benders, this was truly beautiful. is there by any chance a wav or mp3 of the set available?
Would love it for my own listening.
IKR
He's got them totally pwned
They are going to wake up wit empty wallets credit cards missing and a thank you note lol
you stil making music man ? haven't heard anything in a while
This would be good music for a DMT trip.
yes listen to the music.
I'm sitting here trying to write some C++ code while this is playing in the background. I'm not getting much done.
same bro, same
I’m writing a short story about the end of the world listening to this piece. Colin doesn’t know it but he wrote the soundtrack.
Everyone worried about everyone else... Worry about yourselves. Enjoy the music, stop caring about what others are doing. No one will worry about you but yourself.
This video is my first exposure to Colin's music. I was just reading about the fact that electric guitar sales have decreased drastically and the 2 largest guitar manufacturers are under water. This is because there are no current electric guitar virtuosos that have captured the popular consciousness. Now I see where the instrumental virtuoso has gone; he is in a packed room, playing modular synthesizers!
Scott Vampola ever heard guthrie govan? tosin abasi?
then search for the Kyteman hip-hop orchestra , this was his before this.
I used to listen to stuff like this in the early 7th century, we recorded it on mud disks using dodo quills and a pigskin diaphragm
Pretty incredible to see him come from being just a musician conducting his own band, to just having a 6U Eurorack making somewhat "bird" tunes to now being an influential in the modular synth genre. I say this but 2020's is going to see a huge shift to this, and I am just beginning too, hope to be able to play venues one day man.
Just a band??
bird tunes??
2020s??
Venues in 2020?
One day?
Hey, the audience are under a spell, and I must be as well, as I'm just compelled to watch this entire set in one go. Wow. Powerful magic. Wonderful.
The fact that he can do all this in darkness is amazing to me!
When goosebumps appear and reappear in a frequent manner. This is just lit.
What an atmosphere from that crowd. It's got the energy of a funeral
Could it be the case that they were so mesmerised by the music that they all went into a collective trance sharing a subjective reality of consciousness?
@@TradCatMan They look bored, people in a trance tend to move unconsciously, often eyes closed. They're just standing there dead eyed, quite a few are just playing on their phones.
@@Wildeheart79 They needed more alcohol.
@@Wildeheart79i think you probably underestimate their devotion to the craft. Not all music needs dancing. I've been listening to trance music for years. Many times in my car laying back in my driveway just letting the music inspire my imagination. Don't get so bent out of shape
@@mikeklug3369 All fair enough. That crowd still looks like they'd rather be at an insurance seminar
this music takes my mind elsewhere. so good.
Love it! So much respect for anyone that can pull off a set like this with so many variables in their rig!
Hoooly sit! It is fantastic!!!!
Really inspirational! One of the best live modular jams I've seen
Well.... I just can say, this was one amazing experience !
Thanks so much for recording and uploading this beauty.
This is 100% electronic music on his best quality
As someone who's just starting in the world of analog synthesizers, I have to say this is truly inspiring! Thank you Colin! Please come to Chile, South America someday! :D
Would love to! never been to Chile, if ever the opportunity arises I'll be there!
Awesome!
:)
how much will a proper setup cost? (beginner in analog, basical/advanced knowledge with software synthesizers.
I think because it's not a "all-in-one" device, it'll be veeery expensive (effect modules (delay/reverb) alone cost more than a few hundrets?!)
Except you build em yourself with microcontrollers or buy cheap ones, not that too spaced technology thb.
Your 2 cents? :D
Greetings from germany
@@DropCoreYT Eurorack starts as an expensive hobby and turns into an addiction. Look on RUclips for ‘must have modules’ and sketch it out. Not too many all in one synths do what modular does, so that might be a ‘cheaper’ option to start. If you get a decent semi modular synth you can add modules as you go along. Enjoy the journey.
Pretty obvious he doesn't care if they dance or not, he's playing his music. If they dance, great, but his motivation is the sounds coming from that fun looking rig. Once lost in his own world of music he himself lets loose, if the crowd can't connect it's not his fault. Difference between DJ and live production; DJ tries to play the crowd, producer plays their heart.
I wouldn't want to be the guy doing the patches for a live gig.
Respect to the engineer or himself for that alone.
The only thing I see here is a musician making beautiful music. That's the difference between DJs and musician's!
Amazing what can be done with old tech with a modern imagination
As a visitor of this show, I can confirm that all attendees were in pure trance. Is it obliged to dance then? I had a chat with Colin afterwards, and he was a super happy man as well.
@@wispa1a indeed modular is super tricky to pull off for a live gig and small issue can ruin a whole show. That is what I like about my simple Elektron Analog 4 setup. One hardware box with 4 voices and tons of programmed patches that work like a charm. Now I don't have six cases of fancy Eurorack modules with hundreds of wires and cool flashing lights but I can put my whole show in one small pack and plugin and do a show right away easily without worries.
This is amazing how you keep the gig together like that, I know hard hard modulars can be to tame in live environment. This is only possible if you truly know your rig 100%. Well done!
The sad thing is that listening to this here we are not hearing the whole experience as awesome as this is
good promo. now they need to book you for dancing kids
Great work Colin! That was a stellar intro
An hour and change... stopped me from watching this for so long. I totally dig Colin but rarely have time for long vids. So I thought I'll just listen to it in segments. Nah, nothing doing... everytime I thought it would be a good time to pause the transition would kick in and I was sucked back in. Then somewhere around the 37 min mark all hell breaks loose...just sublime. Just so inspiring. I can't wait to get through this freaking pandemic and set up some gigs like this locally. Thank you Colin, you are a big part of my continuing to explore and share the never ceasing sounds in my soul.
what amazing sound, an incredible trip, mind goes everywhere
This music is simply brilliant...
When your whole brain is just voltage..
Nice Work!
This is really one of my goals. I love it
electronic music is becoming interesting again. thanks for the upload colin!
This is up there one of the best modular synth performances. Stunningly beautiful, hypnotic and lush. Had to stop everything else I was doing to just listen. Thanks Colin, this is so awesome!
Goodness my... This trip unfold my damaged mind. I need to learn this art!
37:00 is absolutely ridiculous. That's so incredibly hard to do in an improv modular context, believe me
mans turned his song into a song
yes it is, but he pulled it off... good stuff
wow this is amazing, I totally get why everyone is stood watching and listening and letting the synths and sounds hit their souls deep.
I love the banging hard stuff and going ape shit but sometimes its just better to go back to basics and just stand with no phone and take it all in and let the subconscious suck it all in. First video i have witnessed with this gent i can only sqy well done and keep this level of greatness up and i will be looking into it more.
There is nothing better than modular analog Synths !!! Colin is the Jedi Master of analog synth
just found out about you yesterday. yeah bless my ignorance but... i believe i never heard anyone master modulars like you do. just watched your stream today and i had so much fuc*ing fun. i commented there that you can be compared to any master on any instument and honestly i was thinking about hendrix on the guitar but this is so much more... your intuition on these machines makes me on one hand value my little trips on my ms20 a lot and on the other just wonder at the possibilities. the depth of this is amazing! keep us stomping or dreaming, wtv makes you happy!
osh súper, I loved this set! thanks buddy
More likes please! This deserves more!
Fantastic!!! Starting not so long ago with eurorack, this is my dream to do this in my Backyard for some friends. Amazing! Greetz 👍✌️😳
Backyard synth concert would be dope
wow! it's the first time I hear Colin Benders and it's and absolute delight
I always come back to this.
WHOHOOOOOO!!!!!!! Extraordinary! Very impressive sound. Top work!!!
I love you.
Pure art, deepest trip.
Cmon guys people do whatever they want at the concert. This guy is a genius btw.
Well said Sergey.
Lovely trip I had ...ur amazing ..
this is my kinda crowd! chill af
Thanks man, your content introduced me very much to the subject of modulars, and then to synthesizers in general. :-)
And I decided to start this kind of jam session project:

Man, its just MAGIC! I love it Colin Benders, cheers!
this is amazing af
51:00 the texture on this set is drool worthy
I feel like the crowd doesn't understand what they are witnessing cause how are they not losing their minds right now? Im at my crib freaking out wishing I was there, from start to finish this set was nothing but incredible
Most people have absolutely no idea what modular is.
Solid point because there was a time I didn't know about it..... then I did and now have an addiction that rivals a drug addiction and I'm in financial ruins lol but least I'm making really cool sounds while being broke
@walterslenny Sounds about right 🙌
It's sound amazing but can't see myself jumping around to this
a Dr in a crib lol cute
You are mad & brilliant!! At 35th minute arpg is like 200bpm, I love it!!
This guy is the Clit Commander of all electronic music. He's so out of this world it's hard to get it.
You Sir are an absolute musical genius. i just found my new favourite artist. :)
37:25 that notes always in my head now
no words ......just amazing!!!
Thanks to the universe for bringing us this man!
The crowd may look bored etc but I think this is a "happy knobbing" event, those folks are much more interested in seeing what this chap can achieve with his synth, amazing stuff.:) , I might be wrong.
BRAVOOOO!!! AMAZING!!!
mega !!! what an awesome gig!
Einfach mit Worten nicht zu beschreiben, Musik für die Seele
this is FAAT! Some really cool textures and sounds in here!
Respect!!! Very impressive!!! This awe-inspiring performance is why I love modular....Artist ONLY, no posers in this game! Faking the funk or a halfass approach is not possible. To do it well requires a humble artist with shitload of dedication, time, patience, passion, sacrifices and unfortunately.....money lol. Bet that rack wasn't cheap Colin but it sure was a damn good investment. I buy gear and records before paying bills on time. Thank you for capturing and sharing this set, very inspiring!
i would so want to stand where you stand right now. that rigg looks insane! been listning to this straight for a week. i lift my hat.;
Loved it when it went absolutely turbo around the half hour mark!!
Wish I was there !
incredible live performance !!!
Excellent.
This is art at it's peak............
I love this journey.
This is a modular magnum opus. So good!
Awesome. Can't really think of another word to describe this!
That crowd is lifeless, they should be rockin to this.
man... they are in a trance :))) completely
Try dancing on this when you are hanging on the ceiling
LOLOLOLOL
Who cares about the crowd?
Just talent!!!
You've suddenly become one of my favorite electronic music composers, right up there with Luc Ferrari, Dieter Moebius, and Morton Subotnick. Well done. Really love your "Orbit" jam too.
This goes right through your soul.
This is a pure gem
Mr. Benders, muchas gracias, vielen vielen vielen dank, unglaublich wie si mit dem synti umgehen können, danke.
wow, just wow man
This is FANTASTIC!
Amazing set, would love if he had the opportunity to visit Stockholm!
PHAT. How have I not seen this before
My favorite performance..! Subscribed!!!
Always a ride
INCREDIBLE.
Si se pudiera expresar la mayor felicidad integrada entre el ser humano y el universo expresada en mi cara sin lugar a dudas es ver mi cara escuchando esta sesión es lo mejor
Well that was magical !
This is so fucking good. Jesus. I’m melting.
Funny though, I bet everyone at the back is dancing but it’s the modular dorks (like me) stood still at the front trying to see what’s happening 😂❤️
incredible sounding.those modulars are power
Very strong the force is with this one
I like it. Ten minutes in, subbed.
Beautiful,,,,! 🙏🏼
Absolutely killer. Speechless
hi collin , great set! makes my think of superbooth 2016 .
was great to work with you on the soundinstallion last year. good memories.
its jan ( yaya systems ) writing. we did the aftershow workout in the kultursaal.
all the best !
I wish the atmosphere was different. Such an experience, the journey of sound, potential for introspection and dreaming. Like being led by a shaman or something, not just staring at the artist. Having said that, the music is phenomenal.
That is a lot of preparation. To bring this setup to a gig. Does he leave cables in there? Else it would sound different every time
he does it different everytime! From what i've heard in interviews he is improvising every time and sometimes bring a vague idea of where it can go to. But mostly it's based on the vibe in the venue, the crowd, the following up of the next tunes and he makes it an experience. He also said he barely makes "songs" as he does different stuff everytime he plays the modular
This is Amazing!!! sound of innovation \ sound of the future
I would love to take this recording, play it at a party on a huge screen and let the dancing crowd at my party think that the totally static one in the video was just wallpaper or mannequins or some kind of ironic set used by Mr. Benders.
This was amazingly well done!
Side note: I found the lone foot pedal effect sitting forlornly on the front of the table kinda funny. With that Borg-esque monstrosity on the table, what was the one 'sonic thing' he just could not get that forced him to go buy a single footpedal to achieve? And is it a Footpedal of the Gods, or just some kind of sonic condiment? Inquiring minds want to know.
That god pedal was a guitar tuner. You'd think there'd be a decent alternative for that one....
That actually makes it funnier! Thanks! And again, thank you for posting your amazing work!
