I miss the VP system, really pushed for the RTS element of the game, but the HIVEs were the downfall of the VP system. Instead of simply removing HIVEs the devs just removed the VP system all together and completely scrapped the RTS element. I played on the PS4 during ths time of VP system, we had no access to construction and no access to HIVEs, and it was glorious. No one was being a braindead cortium farmer because there was no cortium, the only two options were to farm or push with the RTS element to win the alerts.
VPs rewarded zerging. Zerg this warpgate, zerg that warpgate... Territory control requires a lot more thought. These lanes are just too restrictive and these bases are crap.
i remember a lot of rampant ghostcapping when that was introduced, which also perpetuated counter-ghostcapping. im guessing that statistics would've graphed peak/higher ghostcapping after it was added compared to before implementation and after vp removal; it felt like that when i was playing then.
1. The NC always loves when the tyrannical TR fail, so that's fun; however, being rebels, our command structure is complex at best and nonexistent at worst. 2. I have no other comments to put here, so fill in your own -Yeti
The NC command structure, at least on Cobalt, seems next to non existent. My platoon have been running ops nights every wednesday and saturday night for about a month now and last wednesday was the first time we ever encountered anyone else talking in leader chat.
The VS is not an ally of the NC. However, Given the choice, We prefer sinking the TR at ANY opportunity. Under certain circumstances, feel free to consider that an N.A.P.
Love your videos Cyrious! I am a new player since late June (2019) and despite PS2 being a really old game... I am inlove with it. Your guides made this game so much easier to get into! My only struggle is, I have treid all factions and as much as I wanted to get into Terran Republic (inspired by you and your videos) buuut I just couldn't get away from Papa Vanu's grasp, hehe. Thank you, Commander Cyrious :)
Never doubt papa Vanu! Always be proud of your VS heritage. I would hate it if my influence made TR faction lopsided. We need all glorious factions equally represented! Where your Spandex PROUD! See you on Auraxis soldier! And I look forward to doing battle with you!
I've always thought that Alerts were useless, cuz i don't go that much into grinding for certs, but once again u have teached me something very fundamental and important about alerts. because of u every time u upload a video i see PS2 in a new and positive way. I think when i say this i speak for all of us " we are very thankful to u and we would all love to see PS2 heading in the right direction".
everytime an alert comes on, its basically "everyone switch to VS or NC, whoever has the most pop at the time" and just roflstomp 80% of the map. And why wouldn't they? Alerts are only worthwhile for the winning team, and implants are such a crucial part of the game that really it is just flat stupid NOT to overflow to the winning team. Really as is a question of making the losing team reward worthwhile enough for people NOT to switch sides.
I never really thought about directing population of other factions beyond not holding tons of territory early in alerts. I run with a fairly new outfit so we are currently doing lots of open platoons to recruit new members and the nights where we take the continent lock alerts are the best for recruitment. Definitely one of your most helpful videos!
4:00 tbh i feel like giving dbg some money for this game, since i have been enjoying it very much for a long time. About 30 dolars a year for diffrent kinds of things in a good f2p game is quite fair for me
I just want to say thank you for putting this video together. I play with VS, and often find myself platoon leading, and what you've said in this is so true. I have helped my faction pull a win in an alert (on Indar) and almost the entire alert, we had the lowest population count (we actually won every alert that popped on that continent including the final continent lock, and it was only at about the last 15 mins our pop grew to second). In my alert, we started with way too much territory, so I had my platoon jumping around, with a "line" on the map, that as long as we didn't lose any thing past that line, then it didn't matter if we lost territory. The biggest mistake I see, and this happens on the less important alerts too, is factions driving a wedge between both their enemies, and killing the option for their enemies to fight each other, setting up a double team situation, then complaining that they are getting double teamed.
Thanks for video, it was helpful when you went through the important bases for each map. Since I barely ever play on Hossin or Amerish, it helped me to know where I should be holding and where I should push.
Very good video. While playing Cobalt TR, the one thing I can almost put money on hearing with ~15 minutes to go is "The NC let the VS win again by not fighting them" EVERY SINGLE TIME. People always blaming others for their own failures.
I miss the days when galaxy taxis at the warpgate would just take randoms to whatever big fight happened to exist on the map. Also the router is possibly the worst design I've seen in-game.
I love this side of planetside 2, the whole strategical outplays that can be happening sometimes with the right leaders, whose are just other auraxians like us. I would love to learn more about alerts managing :)
I mostly play to win alerts, sometimes at a cost. It would probably be different if I played with an outfit(which I haven't done for several years). I just prefer to play tactically. KD doesn't mean much to me, it's not difficult to get a great one by sitting back and doing things to minimize risk. But, if I can draw an enemy squad or two away from an important fight by forcing them to cover unimportant bases, yes, I'm probably going to die, but it'll maybe take 10-20 players out of commission. The longer I can keep their heads down, and have to be cautious, the better. Don't shoot to kill unless you can disengage safely, shoot to wound, it's far more effective. It's the same principal behind the 5.56 round over the 7.62: a 7.62 will most likely kill an enemy, whereas a 5.56 will wound, costing man-power, resources, and time. Similarly, sacrificing a few deaths(acting like what a vet would call a "try hard") can tactically outwit entire platoons, as they forget the objective and focus on tripping over each other to kill you. They will literally be speaking to each other on team-speak or discord saying "he's so mad right now, he's died 3 times for every kill". While I'm there thinking "I'm 1 person, and I'm keeping your platoon bogged down in a place it doesn't need to be - mad? I'm over the moon it's working". We are playing very different games. Yes, I can break even against most players, and yes, I'll go for kills where possible, but for the most part, as a solo player, I like to do my best to affect a strategy that benefits my faction and compliments what command are trying to achieve. Which, let's face it, isn't that difficult tactically to work out. I'm pretty certain Sun Tzu isn't moonlighting with VS command. I agree that zergs(real ones) are a way to guarantee an alert loss. They tend to huddle together for safety, and the longer they do that, the less attention people pay to the map, or different lanes. Usually one decent outfit, or "elite-fit" will go on a base/territory stomp: they seem to be doing well, so everyone else redeploys in and joins them. All of a sudden they're defacto leading a zerg, until they realize that the rest of the map is under-pop'd. The elite/competent redeploy away to try to gain back important territory; by which point the enemy has moved to counter the zerg(who now have no leadership) and either get cut to ribbons by a smarter/stronger enemy, wander off in different directions to neighboring hex's(within easy reach of the counter push), can't spawn back into the hex to sustain the over-pop necessary for some bases, or it breaks up because no one is getting kills. To me it's worth a few deaths to keep an enemy zerg interested and most importantly, together. (note: when faced with a spawn camping zerg, there will always be those eager beavers, desperate for kills, through the spawn room door as the timer hits zero. C4 and mines are little packets of karma(in pain fields)...and it's so gratifying to have already re-spawned away from the "no win" scenario, and get those kills pop up.)
One of my favorite example of forcing an alert win was on Indar shortly before an alert started, coming from the western warpgate I decided to cap Saurva Bio lab because no NC was there (NC was at the North warpgate) I knew capping the Bio lab wouldn't work so instead what I did was I cut off the bio lab and capped around it and let my some friendlies fill in behind. Shortly after the alert starts NC starts pulling forces to get their Bio lab back but VS pulls more troops, we had set up a two base buffer zone between the bio lab and the huge NC force and the NC too the entire alert trying to armor push to the bio lab, but the problem was when they got to the bio lab they had too leave their armor behind. Now at that point 45 mins left I decided to do the normal thing and defend big and small bases against a couple of NC ghostcappers. Keep in mind during all of this while NC has the majority of their force focusing on the bio lab we still had around half our force to fight against TR, we weren't capping any territories but we had enough to win and NC wasn't gonna make a difference anytime soon due to the bio lab. So after starting a fight out of nothing and watching that fight allow us the freedom to win the alert I was pretty proud of myself and my faction when we won.
Great video! It's easy to get into this game thinking its just a giant deathmatch. However it's a lot more complicated to understand the teamwork and strategy side. I think this might be because as a new player all your thinking about is not getting killed and trying to unlock new items.
Pause at 11:47 (map). This is what I, as the FooI leader at the time, saw when we decided to push for that cut: - Although there was a VS-NC contest at the bottom of the map, the VS had re-secured all adjacent bio territory. Most players, specifically leaders, see this as time to move on to a new fight, which they did. Both Mulac Tech plant and Bravata were already being capped by overwhelming NC populations AS we completed our cut-off. 2-3 VS spot-fire fights had also already started at single point bases in the south-west also. - Even if we hadn't cut there, pubbies at Ghanan were going to cause the exact same effect further down the lattice in just a minute's time. - As history has dictated, holding that much map at the start of the alert all but guarantees a loss, as the faction essentially paints a target on itself to be double-teamed. - As a side-note, pretty much all squad and platoon leaders (even Pale!) are fluid when it comes to leading, in a sense that they won't just roll along any given lattice until the end of the alert, instead deviating when they see a better fight option. The only time a straight-line lattice push is guaranteed to happen is when a faction is close enough to an opposing warp gate that a 'cheeky' cut-off is tangible. This being said, its not reasonable to assume that because their bio fight was over (whether we contributed up north or not), that the NC and VS could only push TR for the remainder of the alert. They did this because it doesn't matter how good another fight is, a faction with 70% territory in an alert will always be targeted. - As a still growing 'midfit' (ouch), we saw it as the perfect opportunity to attain an outfit goal and receive some recognition. - Therum's R3st squad was up and running so we thought we'd take the fight to them while still had the chance. While I get that you aren't trying to lay the blame directly on us for losing that alert, the emphasis you put on "dumbest" drove the dagger home. Believe it or not, we're a very communicative group of gamer gals and had noted on each and every one of those points before we started that cap. Less dumb, more calculated. The calculation being that the alert was over before it started, so might as well have some fun with it. BTW we do care a shit-load about alerts, you should see us if an alert coincides with our ops time; it's all hands on deck. I don't think things are as black and white as you paint them here, each outfit is different, you shouldn't categorize them so thoughtlessly. Here, in your scope, what do you consider MERC?
First, I gotta say I have seen Fool do awesome stuff. They don't sit there and berate P1GS or bitch about TWC2 and DIM, and they go out and get stuff done. So I was disappointed it was you guys that were such a prime example, but it was just to much to pass up. I really respect FOOL as an outfit, I have seen some awesome stuff. Only feedback i would provide is I don't really hear you guys in command chat at all, not that I lead enough to know if you coordinate there. -You are right, NC was picking up steam on our front, but that is the exact time to strike back, and persuade them back on to the VS front. They were testing the TR front, hey we have been farmed at VS a bit lets try over there. If TR was able to muster a decisive enough defense against the NC they would have immediately gone back to trying to get their biolab back. And at least at this point those assaults were not overwhelming, accordingly to 11:47. A small squad could have easily squelched the small pushes. VS still had 96+ on the other side of the biolab over pushing the NC, happily keeping a large portion of them occupied. - There was still 5 minutes left on Ghanan. Yes, they were causing problems, but P1GS platoon was doing everything they could to stop pubbies from going there. Yelling, berating, kicking. They were actively discouraging that fight, and that fight did end up failing. If not for the cutoff, TR would not have taken ghanan, the lane would have stayed intact, and the VS and NC would have continued to fight for at least another 20 minutes. - This you may be correct on. Having 65% territory control at the 1 hour mark, may have been a death sentence regardless. Your cutoff may not have mattered. In my next alert video I am going to cover how we won an Esamir alert while having 60% territory control at the 1 hour mark. Its more difficult, but its not impossible. But doing the cutoff 100% guarantees the loss. Its all about keeping the enemy engaged in as great as numbers, and as long as possible. - If the fight on the lattice was completely over, I would say the cutoff wouldn't have mattered. But you can see the bubbles on Eastern Bitol, it was still going strong on the other side of the Biolab. There were 96+ enemies there (smaller fight than the biolab) - You guys are an awesome midfit, and you absolutely defeated Therum and crew there. It was absolutely an achievement, you certainly are recognized, don't doubt yourselves there, you have absolutely made your mark on Auraxis and Connery. In my scope, I consider MERC a midfit that makes the same mistakes for the sake of fun. And I think thats OK. MERC takes the offense a bit farther though and they constantly berate P1GS for being bad. When P1GS just wants to play the alert, and MERC is off doing epic, but ultimately useless point holds. In my outfit, I am far and away in the minority that I think we should respect our allies and enemies more than that. I am sorry, there are a lot of outfits I would have picked over you to be the perfect example, because they were making these mistakes all the time. FXHD, SOLX, SAWS, etc. Constantly berating others while having terrible map sense. But they are all long dead. Don't let this affect FOOLs style at all. Keep doing what you do. Its not your job to always play the alert to the perfect strategic T for TR. I just hope at the same time you cut outfits like a P1GS some slack when they don't always make the right moves, which I think you already do.
@@CMDRCyrious Thanks for the reply man, you made some really good points and thank you also for responding so comprehensively. I must admit I was feeling a little attacked when I wrote the post, which may explain the vulgar bits where I wanted to bite back. I take back those comments after seeing this, we at FooI/G0BS do really respect MERC as an outfit (hopefully my comments in proxy chat towards you are never seen as more than light-hearted banter, can't help myself sometimes). I'm glad we understand each other on the notion that each outfit operates in its own way and that, when these unique opportunities arise, we all seek the enjoyment of playing the game amidst the constant pressures of being a part of a 'competitive shooter.' And remember, live free in the NC ;)
Definitely an interesting perspective to put on it. Now, if only player-made bases had a bigger opportunity to play important roles in dictating the battle flow and locking down key bases. I, personally have only come across a few scenarios where they've either been major helps in a push or defense. Too often you're forced to abandon a base you built because the lattice you're on is overrun, either for or against your favor.
It’s interesting that you think buying cosmetics for your solider is crazy because it’s “spending money on pixels”. But you’re a member AND you have the black camo which requires one to spend money on the game to obtain it. Quite a bit of money actually. So you yourself spent quite a bit of money to earn that camo which is pixels.
Good one - a keeper for new leaders, although, prime time and off time make a big difference in Strategy as well as what day what outfit plays and how many they bring. On Emerald we have over a dozen outfits we work with, some only play strategy on one day some on others. We do best of course when the Devs have Command Com working. That said Command Com can be a ego fight a lot of the times between different personalities, and OMG MY way is the best way, and I just wanted to point out to new leaders that if you have someone who is toxic to you, your squad/platoon, or your Outfit all you have to do is when they are talking on command is just press the Enter Key on your Keyboard Number pad and you will not hear their rant any longer until you chose to UN-mute them if ever. There will always be people who disagree, with what you do in this game, as they have limited thinking as to what is the right way to play the game. Your goal as a leader is to deliver a fun, interesting, interactive, and learning experience to everyone who gets in your Squad or Platoon, or Outfit.
I agree 100% with what you said regarding the tech plant on Esamir and how solo/new players get sucked there although not having MBTs on such a vehicle-centric map really gives you a large disadvantage if your main fight is against the tech plant owning faction. I've won a lot of alerts where we had 15-20% pop etc but that's just because the other two factions wanted to have big fights and didn't care
I hear you, and understand exactly what you're talkin about. On the part when, you take a base area, and not clear it out before you leave it. That shyttt' bothers me a lot. And These dudes want to pretend like they are military" or ex-military. I never seen a military' going to a base take it over, and not clear first before they just leave.
Since returning to this game I've been frustrated at the extreme lack of leadership in open platoons. Literally every open platoon seems to have a mute squad leader. This has inspired my newbie self to take up that mantle and attempt to lead some platoons myself.
WTF? I bought like 200 implant packs by now but never got any of those "rare" implants. To me, the are more like not existing at all... But you made another great video here, will totally use it to give some suggestions to my outfit while playing alerts.
I mostly agree, however some thoughts: As long as having the most fun and bringing the most skill to a smallish fight at squad level can actually be detrimental to winning the meta game, the problem with the meta game will stay the same. And i think it will stay that way as long as PS2 is a 3 faction game with free faction choice. And guess what? Sever smash didn't have this problem. Winning a base in server smash still required good meta strategy, but winning a base was always better than not winning a base, and this aligned the small scale fun and skill with the big scale win condition and strategic fun. Teamwork in PS2 works so well on a small scale not just because it gives certs, but because good teamwork is FUN to execute. As long as people have to NOT FIGHT somewhere in order to win the meta (just to get rewarded with meaningless currency), the people that play this game for small scale fun won't participate in the meta, and it makes total sense that they don't. In a sense, for platoon leaders to have fun in this game, they have to take away potential fun from their own platoon sometimes, which cannot work out well. And about alert rewards: The journey becomes the actual fun after a while, the reward in itself is just an addiction mechanism (Everybody should play Cookie Clicker once.). The only people, for which an alert win is a major/inherent part of their "journey", are leaders (because this is how THEY get feedback about their decisions). An infantry solo guy has no reason to care.
To win an alert you need to play it. As my Briggs server died, i have started as TR on Connery and i could say, sometimes 1 or 2 factions completly don't play alerts. (i would prefer too)
One of my favorite things to do when alerts are near the end (~30 mins left) is to find a corner of the map that is easy to capture. I then take the 2 or 3 bases that connect that corner to the enemy team's main warpgate and fight for them. If I win those, suddenly the other team has a bunch of free bases they cannot teleport to without a sunderer, and 9 times out of 10 they don't even notice until it's too late. Send a small handful to each disconnected base, and suddenly your team has picked up 5 territories in 15 minutes
I want to say Arklur on reddit was the guy that compiled them, I am sorry I don't have the original source. They are at minimum one year old at this point though.
Awesome video. As a new arrival to ps2 this was extremely helpful. I would love to some specific videos continent that go more in-depth into strategies and tactics for winning alerts. Maybe some ideas on proper reading of the map. Or even more details on how to identify strongly recommend points, finding targets, etc.
*Team of 16 caps a base* *Vanu notices bu- basecapture* *Vanu runs in with 32* TR: "You made a big mistake by comming here." *Terrans send in 128 people from the base nearby, literally everyone running in, in a 16x8 grid formation* Vanu: *shits pants*
as a VS main(sorry cyrious), i've been always surprised how cohesive/toxic platoons to outfits to faction management is, where i've started to become expectant of them whenever i log in. even after the ns operatives have been added/deployed that i'm as equally surprised that nc gets a lockdown as they're rarer than tr wins when i'm playing. tip: always leave those center hex alone(unless it's start of new continent unlock and farming the shit out of everyone),
Never be sorry! I respect and appreciate my enemy, they are my content, I salute you! Sometimes you win, sometimes TR wins, and that is how Auraxis turns. Be proud of your VS heritage!
As a new player in Emerald, in my experience so far I've taken the time to truly study stuff like this in depth and learned that what is needed to win alerts with approx 90% consistency is, a lot of god damn Barney purple suits 😂
Pretty great video, Cyrious. Sad it slipped by me in a time i wasn't active on PS2. It'd be nice to have a video on PLing as the focus, this touched on that greatly but i feel there's more to it.
@@CMDRCyrious it means a ton that you reply to the feedback you're given, it motivates us (or at least myself) to continue to give any feedback i can :) thanks for your amazing content, looking forward to the growth we will see.
Everything that was said in this video is spot on. Watching this channel and seeing how there are resources and mods for PS2 after not playing for years is pretty neat too. But real talk. And you address it in your video. Tons of people just DO, NOT, CARE. I am one of them. I quit a few months into alerts being introduced into the game. We won most of those alerts on watterson, even in those 3-4 months, I quickly grew sick of it. I can't imagine how people must feel years later in 2020. Simply put, its spam. The frequency of the alerts is just obnoxious. I assume times and things may be in flux due to the escalation update and the subsequent population overflow because of it. Either way, it feels like spam. I believe I played a few days before the update and the alerts were non stop then as well, but its neither here nor there. The main issue with this game is the meta. You said it yourself, continent locking is the end game, it shows who cares at the current moment. On the other hand, well think of world of warcraft. Now imagine it never got any expansions. They maybe added new spells, or armors, maybe some locations, but we are still doing what we always do. We are still there, killing ragnaros, nefarion, onyxia, and kelthuzad. To, this, day. TO THIS DAY!?!!@# I use WoW as an example because some people, have literally done JUST that, via private servers, and now with classic WoW. Here is the thing. That is mind numbing. PS2 has been nothing but continent domination since day 1. Not LOCKING, since that was added later, but OWNING the continent has been the objective since day 1. Guess what, that is exactly what I did. I dominated those continents, day in and day out. It was fun, but not sustainable. Not for a year, no way in hell for a decade. Some people can enjoy the same thing over and over, AND OVER again. But not most people, not in this over saturated game market with new and fresh things coming out monthly. WoW is only still around cause it was the most popular and even then its in a zombie state by most accounts. PS2, well...I like the game. I really do. After all these years there is STILL nothing like it. It hurts to see it be so hollow. IDK what they can do TBH. Everyone has ideas. IMO one thing they could do is emphasize importance again. Nothing matters in the game after you played it long enough. Because of that same old same old. One temporary solution, or a start in the right direction IMO; would be to reduce the amount of alert spam, or add more flavor (like the air alerts). While at the same time creating a weekly or couple times a week event that is something of a SUPER alert. Where one faction soft locks all 3 continents. Providing small multiple passive benefits for that faction until the next super alert comes. This would add at the very least a better faction v faction meta since no one will want to see the same faction winning super alerts over and over since the soft locks would last for days. Again just one example, but its something. Let me paint you a picture of how I feels about this game. Because why not. This game to me; its life, has been pretty much the story of a failed young prodigy. Imagine, planetside 2, its in high school. During that time it won multiple sports medals, did well academically, high marks on the college entrance exams, just a super star student. Then, tragedy hits; his father Higby, leaves him and his mother (some vanu bitch) to fend for themselves. This leads PS2 into a spiraling depression. During this time his mother remarries, the step dad "Smedly" is as wonderful as his name sounds. This makes PS2 shut himself off from the world, he drops out of high school in his senior year. He becomes a basement dwelling loser, he gets calls every now and again from people who still care about him but never responds. Though his mom and stepdad try and "help" it is all for naught (keeping vanu OP does nothing). Years go by, nothing changes, more years go by, still nothing. Eventually PS2 looks in the mirror and realizes he is no longer a young man, but an aging one. Eventually the stepdad can't deal with the misery surrounding his step son and leaves. Granted, he will still support from a distance, its clear he wants nothing to do with him or that vanu bit- I mean his wife. This should have been a wake up call for PS2. But all he did was go back to doing nothing. A bit more time passes. Then it happens, his mom finally kicks him out of the house. Destitute, PS2 finally responds to some of those people who have bothered keeping up with him (or trying to) all this time. He goes and stays with them for awhile. They give it to him straight, this hurts PS2, but at the same time, emboldens him. Soon enough some of the people who are helping him get back on his feet find a job for PS2, its called "escalation" its entry level, and he is nearing 30-35, but its a good start. Excited by the prospect PS2 lights up and happily accepts the offer, thanking the people who stuck with him for so long (even though he didn't always do the same). With that, PS2 is off, hopefully about to make a name for himself. SO ya, PS2 is that superstar high schooler that crashed and burned and now picking up the pieces in his 30s. Lets hope he can do something with himself given this new opportunity. P.S I have no idea about the behind the scenes state of PS2 all I know was higby made a funny video and was the lead of the game until he left/fired and smedly took over and is a buisness minded guy, and the SOE/daybreak thing had multiple weird breaks in partnership/business so don't think my metaphor/story is a 1:1 comparison, even if it is in fact, awesome.
@@CMDRCyrious Since you seem responsive and in the know with the PS2 community. What ever happened to buzzcutpsycho and the enclave? I left around 2013 or 14, the stuff I found said they left around the same time. But in the mandalore PS2 video he interviews buzz, so are they still a thing or whats up with that?
Good thing you're giving us this guide. TR has been winning the least in the past month. All you guys do is just double team NC and warpgate us before alerts but we still end up winning more than you 😂
Only one major criticism this time XD, the rest is just feedback... The win condition isn't the alerts. The win condition in this game is going into a base, killing relevant enemies, taking control of a capture point and keeping control of it for X amount of time. Alerts function as an RTS mini-game within the FPS game (each of these mini-games still have win conditions btw). Continent Control is one that a lot of people love to play. The rest no one really cares that much about (refine and refuel, etc). Though I've long quit caring about anything except the FPS aspect, your advice is good for winning alerts. When I used to lead in LOTC (RIP Connery), I figured a lot of these same things out and had a hell of a lot of success. The only thing I would add is learning how population moves can be used to your advantage. These same population dumps can be used to gain a lot of territory by noticing when these fights are happening and attacking multiple bases and setting yourself up for a cutoff, or taking a 3 point base before anyone bothers to realize it's being capped. There is also another side to the issue of playing or not playing alerts. When people complain about how their faction isn't playing the alert, the rest of us are complaining about that the people playing the alert are ruining a fun play experience. If I'm tower stomping w/ 8 people, have point control and a friendly zergfit drops mass pop on it, well my fights over, I hit my U key as soon as I notice I have a meaningful population advantage. If I go into a base defense (mind you I don't really care what base, I continue to play b/c this is the only game I can fight against mass overpop in) and there is 80%+ and 48-96 population advantage with significant force multipliers (wouldn't care if there were no force multipliers) I have no way to challenge myself as an infantry player, just leave the base. While we ruin people who play alerts fun, the people who play alerts also ruin ours. It goes both ways. I'm not saying don't play the alert, your completely right about the sandbox arguments, just that your side is only one side of the story.
Great thoughts. With the continent open for 6 hours, takening any one base isn't really relevant. Taking the right base at the right time, can lead to a true win though.
Hey Cyrious, did you know you can mash 'Y' to approve revives as fast as possible? I saw you manually clicking it and wasn't sure if you knew or not. It's a tiny optimization but has prevented deaths to people ready to shoot my corpse., but NOT ready for how fast I get up. Great video btw.
Do you always get so many different implants from a pack? i purchased a couple of those packs and godt 3x of same and double of same every time. So i only got like 5 different implants from the big packages. Do you have a link to the data regarding base capture %?
wait you can get stuff by winning alerts ? i mean the real stuff everytime my faction wins an alerts it always gives me decals i thought maybe thats just the prize by winning the alerts beside the certs. but after watching this video i feel so unlucky wth. btw i got 3 factions on connery but for now im maining my VS one.
I'm about to make a huge decision Commander. I'm about 10 months fresh to planetside 2. I have TR, Vanu, NC and recently got the NS OPs to see what they were about. so. I immediately was drawn to NC. Played it till about BR 21. Then Started with Vanu. Played it... meh....I liked killing them more than being them. Tried TR got it up to 20 as well. So for the next 5 months I just jumped back and forth not knowing who to choose. I found myself playing Vanu everyday. LA and Infil mostly. I dont know why Vanu. I spent most of my money on Vanu out of the others. I hit BR 47 today on Vanu. NC is at 30 and TR is at BR 28. I am making a side channel strictly for PS2 aside from my channel I have here. And I'm going to Go For one and just one faction ( for the most part) it will let me Level up that Character 4X as fast without all the othe5 grinding and my skills increase every time I play. But which Faction? Right? It would seem Vanu. As I spend most of my time on Vanu. But...today I got on my NC. Played all day and noticed something that I hadn't before. I was having more fun on NC. Not just because of Normal fun PS2 action. But NC seems to have alot more Tactical Combat Situations and Small Units and Group forces setting up an attack and such. More Coordination and everyone on NC seems to be into that kind of thingmore. The footage I got today looks like it was taken from weeks of gameplay. No way All those awesome fights and 20 tank regiment fights happend in a few hours. But it did. And Vanu always seems to be the ones getting raped by armor. It's a tough choice as I love my TRs Kindred and Vanus Horizon. I love the Ghost sniper rifle for vani infil too. And TRs Weapons are bad ass. But NC seems to be something good for me. I want to really get competitive and stick with one faction. I'll decide tomorrow
In Connery NC has overall the most pop but most unorganized. They join big fights oni TR has the least pop while most systematic in taking bases VS has average pop (highest during PST night time) and has the most scary pushes
I have to admit, I did not. One of the viewers is an audio engineer, that I think I just tortured him to the point where they offered to help. :) And created a real loop for me.
the buying cosmetic thing was a compromise for the good games a good example being planetside 2 were you can earn it or buy it to support the game/devs without it changing gameplay while still being something to earn or achieve (being able to buy achieve cosmetics hurts the game as a whole though) unfortunately it is abused by other games such as ones made under EA being a excellent example using many harmful and/or exploitative methods
playing absolutely solo as retarded lone wolf for 5th year, barely able to understand most of sentences what you said in this vid, but, for some reason, still watched it all.
Can you do a new video on alerts? The things you said about alerts giving you stuff is not true anymore. The only way to get cosmetics now is to earn them via directive completion or buying them. The composite armor set is the only thing that is available to earn via merit points.
How to win alerts in nutshell: RAF (reload and foward) one line or drag your ass around the whole frontline with platon. Use your mouse to point that red dot on people that aren't wearing color of your faction and press mouse 1 (WSAD is also usefull, unless you're a gunner main), and try to not do this when people from your team are in front of you (for safety reasons). If you don't know where to go, just press J on your keyboard and glue yourself to nearby heavy assasult or medic (back of the MAX also works, but it's a bit risky option)
Could you start adding unedited game play and while you're playing just share your thoughts about what you're doing and why you're doing it. Maybe explain some of your load-outs before you run in ect.
@@CMDRCyrious full disclosure, I've only played all the way through an alert a few times (I just got back into the game recently), but from those times I got ~200 iso and ~200 certs and a decal. Which is certainly good, but I'll be trying harder in the future to try and get some better things than decals.
Any chance I can get advice from nayone? Audio isn't working except voice chat, settings aren't saving, it always launches with the incorrect resolution and it launches windowed. Tried both launchers, tried repairing both, tried reinstalling both, updated all my drivers, only this game has issues. I miss PS2 and want to try it again!
The game does have issues. Make sure your useroptions.ini file isn't set to read only, it won't save changes then. Not sure whats up with audio for you.
@@CMDRCyrious Wasn't Planetside 2's fault, it's the bloatware Dell includes on Alienwares. Alienware Sound Center conflicts with Planetside 2 and mutes it. Works now, glad to be back on Auraxis!
Do you only get one item per day? When you win the alert. Bcuz i won 2 alerts the first one gave me something the second one says you got an item but there was nothing in there. Just the accept or press okay.
Your telling how to win an alert? We at NC have a winning tactic... ZERGS!!! LIVE FREE IN THE NC!!! But really we have coordinated platoons. Thank you devil dogs. Please comment if your part of the 666d. FYI. Im PS4.

Thing is atleast on Cobalt the continent lock alerts aren't even getting played how they are used to be. There's Alot of veteran players that just don't care and while that's good for them. The hardcore and competetive community suffers from it. 60% of rhe players every alert atleast on NCs side just fight the losing faction and with a few groups on TRs side and NCs side that do play it vanu just our numbers both the factions actual alert dedicated players So 2 factions with people playing the alert can't even go on par with 1 factions dedicated population.. And with that said what is the goal of playing planetside 2 if there is no objective?... Sure you can treat it as a casual shooter but I do think there's better games for that. For me it's probably to late and I will be quitting and with that said my relatively new outfit I think about 2 months old with about 270 people will die out. There might be lots of veteran players in this game that don't play alerts and I get that bur your also killing the community but as I said for me it's probably to late and the 3rd time I quit for the same reason ..
The past few days I've been on TR and try to defend either against the NC or vs with the Enemy having 70 to 80% of the population for at least four to five bases with no reinforcements. Just trying to slow them down till TR realize what's going on or care. Part of the problem is Planetside 2 does not have a sitrep communication like PlanetSide 1. Where anybody can type /sitrep and ask for help on that continent regardless if they run a squat or not

These lanes are just too restrictive and these bases are crap.
hey there it worked on PS4, we should have kept it
@@heythere4970 True, but map situation having next to zero impact (all is about having enough %) is not exactly interesting.
i remember a lot of rampant ghostcapping when that was introduced, which also perpetuated counter-ghostcapping. im guessing that statistics would've graphed peak/higher ghostcapping after it was added compared to before implementation and after vp removal; it felt like that when i was playing then.
VP? HIVE?
1. The NC always loves when the tyrannical TR fail, so that's fun; however, being rebels, our command structure is complex at best and nonexistent at worst.
2. I have no other comments to put here, so fill in your own

NC winning an Alert is not getting killed by the 91st for 10 mins
The NC command structure, at least on Cobalt, seems next to non existent. My platoon have been running ops nights every wednesday and saturday night for about a month now and last wednesday was the first time we ever encountered anyone else talking in leader chat.
The VS is not an ally of the NC.
However,
Given the choice,
We prefer sinking the TR at ANY opportunity.
Under certain circumstances, feel free to consider that an N.A.P.
This is old but for ps4 the NC situation for command exists. . . But it's kinda rowdy.
your videos make me come back to ps2 every time
Love your videos Cyrious!
You're welcome!

You guys are getting equipment from alerts? On ps4 I don't get anything except for ISo ans certs.
I do not like Re-Deployside. They need to kill it. Pull vehicles and actually go there.
Would love it if they killed redeployside.
Hard agree on that one.
I miss the days when galaxy taxis at the warpgate would just take randoms to whatever big fight happened to exist on the map. Also the router is possibly the worst design I've seen in-game.
as it will never happen for the ps4, i/we are glad???
But itis convinience for casuals.
thats one of the most eye-opening videos on mmo i ve seen in a very long time!
Diplomacy is unity and I think you covered that really well, as in the gaming community. Awesome video all planetsiders should see!
Thanks for this. Might just be the most important one you've ever made. I would love to learn more about this level of play actually. Thanks again.
You're welcome!
Great video! It's easy to get into this game thinking its just a giant deathmatch. However it's a lot more complicated to understand the teamwork and strategy side. I think this might be because as a new player all your thinking about is not getting killed and trying to unlock new items.
I rarely leave a comment but this channel is offering really good content especially for new players. Keep it up mate ✌️
Pause at 11:47 (map). This is what I, as the FooI leader at the time, saw when we decided to push for that cut:
- Although there was a VS-NC contest at the bottom of the map, the VS had re-secured all adjacent bio territory.
There were 96+ enemies there (smaller fight than the biolab)
- You guys are an awesome midfit, and you absolutely defeated Therum and crew there.
I'm glad we understand each other on the notion that each outfit operates in its own way and that, when these unique opportunities arise, we all seek the enjoyment of playing the game amidst the constant pressures of being a part of a 'competitive shooter.'
And remember, live free in the NC ;)
Definitely an interesting perspective to put on it. Now, if only player-made bases had a bigger opportunity to play important roles in dictating the battle flow and locking down key bases. I, personally have only come across a few scenarios where they've either been major helps in a push or defense. Too often you're forced to abandon a base you built because the lattice you're on is overrun, either for or against your favor.
T-I Alloys? You mean Ti (tie) Alloys. It's short for titanium. Great video btw. :D

This video was awesome, thank you!

I just started playing this game 3 days ago and so far it's the greatest game I never knew about for almost a decade... It's unbelievable
Am a low lvl medic, alerts are annoying since I can’t spawn vehicles and welp now I have to walk a km after each and every fight.
keep up with the videos i always learn something new everytime i watch ur ps2 videos!
Thanks will do!
Id really like to see those alert analysis more often. Its the most interesting part of the game for me rn.
I am a BR 26 and did not realise you could win certs from alerts
Learn something every day!
I guess the hardest one with a massive black bar was the crown.
That place is an epic shithole for battles
I love this guys channel to no end!!😍😍😍
AND I LOVE YOU KURT! Thanks for watching 🙂
Very interesting video, loved the base cap/def ratio charts
Thanks man!
It’s funny to see this base win and fast redeploying!!
I mostly agree, however some thoughts:
As long as having the most fun and bringing the most skill to a smallish fight at squad level can actually be detrimental to winning the meta game, the problem with the meta game will stay the same.
(i would prefer too)
Try it NOW! maybe you haven't miss the charecter migration.
@@armvex Migration server is bad for me.
Send a small handful to each disconnected base, and suddenly your team has picked up 5 territories in 15 minutes
can you give the source of the defence - capture statistics?
I want to say Arklur on reddit was the guy that compiled them, I am sorry I don't have the original source. They are at minimum one year old at this point though.
Commander Cyrious thankyou
Awesome video. As a new arrival to ps2 this was extremely helpful. I would love to some specific videos continent that go more in-depth into strategies and tactics for winning alerts. Maybe some ideas on proper reading of the map. Or even more details on how to identify strongly recommend points, finding targets, etc.
I will try to get into some more advanced tactics videos.
*Team of 16 caps a base*
*Vanu notices bu- basecapture*
*Vanu runs in with 32*
TR: "You made a big mistake by comming here."
*Terrans send in 128 people from the base nearby, literally everyone running in, in a 16x8 grid formation*
Vanu: *shits pants*
*sees 75%v25%*
Ah, everything going as planned.
*suddenly sees 49%v51%*
OMG THEY ARE ZERGING.
You got me in the first half not gonna lie.
Great video! I have thousands of hours in this game and I still can't get my head around alert strategy. More vids like this, please.
Will do Jerry!
as a VS main(sorry cyrious), i've been always surprised how cohesive/toxic platoons to outfits to faction management is, where i've started to become expectant of them whenever i log in. even after the ns operatives have been added/deployed that i'm as equally surprised that nc gets a lockdown as they're rarer than tr wins when i'm playing.
tip: always leave those center hex alone(unless it's start of new continent unlock and farming the shit out of everyone),
Never be sorry! I respect and appreciate my enemy, they are my content, I salute you! Sometimes you win, sometimes TR wins, and that is how Auraxis turns. Be proud of your VS heritage!
Paradise camo makes it look like someone puked on me. And aesthetically it looks worse than my grandma's rugs.
I will try to dive into Platoon leading more in the future.
TO THIS DAY!?!!@#
I use WoW as an example because some people, have literally done JUST that, via private servers, and now with classic WoW.
Great thoughts, thanks for sharing!
The intro is super dope Cyrious.
Thanks man!
Oh God the thumbnail killed me
Good thing you're giving us this guide.
Thanks for the tip!
3000 hours and I never knew this lol
Great as usual Cyrious.
Thanks man!
Love that EVE ONLINE Music in the Background, ty for this informative Vid
Are you gonna do an up date to this video for the new map layout and the new map
Do you always get so many different implants from a pack? i purchased a couple of those packs and godt 3x of same and double of same every time. So i only got like 5 different implants from the big packages.
Do you have a link to the data regarding base capture %?
What's that gold camo you've got on your weapons?
Completing the exceptional II directive.
@@CMDRCyrious oof guess that's a no then lmao
wait you can get stuff by winning alerts ? i mean the real stuff everytime my faction wins an alerts it always gives me decals i thought maybe thats just the prize by winning the alerts beside the certs. but after watching this video i feel so unlucky wth. btw i got 3 factions on connery but for now im maining my VS one.
Good luck on your grind, and I know you will make the right decision!
I never get anything good from alerts. Until today got a White chassis for my TR lightning. Shocking the VS platoon is TWC2 at an empty base XD
They needed R3ST DPSO to join them then maybe they would have the correct amount of pop there.
Also cant wait til Oshur i think since their are less bases alerts are gonna be a bit more interesting
Do a video about skins(not the weapin ones)
In Connery
NC has overall the most pop but most unorganized. They join big fights oni
TR has the least pop while most systematic in taking bases
VS has average pop (highest during PST night time) and has the most scary pushes
All I’ve ever won was a decal... I thought that’s all you could EVER win... good vid.
I see you've finally learned how to loop that music at the beginning properly
I have to admit, I did not. One of the viewers is an audio engineer, that I think I just tortured him to the point where they offered to help. :) And created a real loop for me.
Please give me the link to the Defense/Attack ratio and where you found them
If you go to voidwell you can check their siege ratio.
the buying cosmetic thing was a compromise for the good games a good example being planetside 2 were you can earn it or buy it to support the game/devs without it changing gameplay while still being something to earn or achieve (being able to buy achieve cosmetics hurts the game as a whole though) unfortunately it is abused by other games such as ones made under EA being a excellent example using many harmful and/or exploitative methods
I usually avoid biolabs during alerts. I have better bases to cap.
playing absolutely solo as retarded lone wolf for 5th year, barely able to understand most of sentences what you said in this vid, but, for some reason, still watched it all.
Can you do a new video on alerts? The things you said about alerts giving you stuff is not true anymore. The only way to get cosmetics now is to earn them via directive completion or buying them. The composite armor set is the only thing that is available to earn via merit points.
Wait what I can win cosmetics from alerts? Am shoketh
How do you get the circle hip fire crosshair
Yes, I will do that!
Depends, for some player the win condition is having the best stats in whatever fight they're in.
Wait, you guys are actually getting things from alerts? I only get decals
If you play the whole time and win you should get more than that.
@@CMDRCyrious full disclosure, I've only played all the way through an alert a few times (I just got back into the game recently), but from those times I got ~200 iso and ~200 certs and a decal. Which is certainly good, but I'll be trying harder in the future to try and get some better things than decals.
it's always great to have somebody to take command but it never happens. my playstyle consists of driving around and ghost capping as an engy flash
@@CMDRCyrious That fixed one issue, but the audio is still inexplicably missing. Thanks a ton!
No should be able to win twice, sometimes the reward bugs out and you dont get one though.
Your telling how to win an alert? We at NC have a winning tactic... ZERGS!!! LIVE FREE IN THE NC!!!
But really we have coordinated platoons. Thank you devil dogs. Please comment if your part of the 666d. FYI. Im PS4.

Now I think of it PS2 just feels like EVE on the land but without all the complexities, and with more actions.
Thank you much Sir!
Killing the community by not playing the alert? OK
@@joperamod5760 I did quit so doesn't matter anymore keep having fun in your way I suppose
@@stolemycoconut5448 ok
The past few days I've been on TR and try to defend either against the NC or vs with the Enemy having 70 to 80% of the population for at least four to five bases with no reinforcements. Just trying to slow them down till TR realize what's going on or care. Part of the problem is Planetside 2 does not have a sitrep communication like PlanetSide 1. Where anybody can type /sitrep and ask for help on that continent regardless if they run a squat or not
Would be nice if more people could provide intel.
12:16 how did u get that number options on the shield and health display?
Down for more alerts breakdown ! realy interesting vid !
Will get more out!
