I calculated that I pulled out 10 tons of mud-dirt from the pond to deepen it at one end. That is a displacement of 2500 gallons of water adding to the estimated already existing 2500 gallons. So I have a total of 5,000 gallons. It's not going to look any different because I basically went from an average of 2 ft deep to an average of 4.5 ft deep at the deep end. It will support more and bigger fish. The main goal was to provide enough depth so that the koi would be warm enough over the freezing winner. It is extremely muddy right now. I did find a dead baby trout floating. The tadpoles which has sort of disappeared came out and are running the place. The goldfish, koi and Rosie Reds seem to have gone into low activity. I didn't want to post a video because it looks really bad right now all muddy.
I have a lot of rain coming down right now. So it should fill it up some. The water dropped about 4 in at the deep end and 12 inches at the shallow end. I believe that I hit ground water, because I think that the water should have dropped a lot more at the deep end. I believe being close to the groundwater level is the reason why the pond does not dry up. I will definitely do a video on this when the mud clears up a little bit.
This is going to be a awesome pond when finished!
