I appreciate this type of content! I am stuck with a lower paying job after covid. The company terminated many of us to make up their losses for being shut down. My eyesight has always been poor, one sighted eye and several eye surgeries so driving in the larger cities is not an option for me. Needless to say, I am on a really low budget. Finding good deals online keeps me going! This is exactly the price, performance range I am looking for!
@@BeefJerky4104 Yea they do, this platform doesn't have native USB 3. Often it's a chip from VIA. Sometimes the implementation is flaky, you can just use a PCIe USB 3 controller card though.

I can only afford low-mid setups with the job I have, this channel is so much helpful to me, specially getting that bang for buck cheap'o peripherals.. I used x58 platform for like 5 years. Mainly intel xeon w3690 (6c/12t) with 960 and gtx 1070ti. It served me well but i came to the point where i had to switch and build a new computer (ryzen5 3600) because of following reasons. 1. Bottlneck 2. Slow ram speeds 3. Electicity bill 4. No upgrade paths. I will suggest these x58 builds only if you have like dirt cheap budget to spend on.
Exactly, they're great if you want a nice budget build but have no path for upgrades so you get what you get. If you're talking about the W3690 and X5690s, those CPUs are like 80 bucks still so you may as well get a used B350 for 50 bucks and used Ryzen 1600 for 100 and go from there.
I built a ryzen 3600 computer too! I'm afraid it'll be hard to get our hands on old ryzen 7 or 9's in the future as everyone seems to have that path in mind, haha

I built two Xeon machines based on this board back during Christmas and sold them in less than 48 hours. Definitely still a good choice for 1080p gaming.
a great portion of the cost goes to the X58 chipset and on board VRM, the rest are usually within the "cents" range. These mobos cut cost by using recycled X58 chipsets from fried board and lower quality VRM. Or else, even in 2021, producing a new X58 mobo will still cost you as much as the cheapest B550 mobo.
Was just talking about this yesterday, my bud invested another $200 in Xeon memory and more into his Xeon army. Though that's a server use case for him, was wondering about how gaming use case went. Perfect timing to contemplate.
I have this board brand x58, except mine has 3 ram slots supporting triple channel. It also has a fan for the NB chip heatsink that came with it. I use a CPU heatsink similar to yours with a fan on each side directed towards the rear of the case with a case fan blowing outward and the air flow across the VRM stays fairy cool. With the x5670 I use in it, the system never gets overly hot, it's well within safe range. This is proof systems use the GPU more for games and that's the key. My i5 6500 z170 board doesn't do any better than the x58 will with the same GPU. Only real difference is various options like for m.2 and bus speeds. Don't need to spend tons of cash to play games at a decent frame rate.

I got a spare server motherboard for Dell m610 blades for cheap, it has dual CPU sockets, I am trying to hack the power supply to feed the 12V rails, as this board was designed for a rack plug, not the standard molex connector. Hunting for other dual Xeon sockets motherboards, if you know some...
AYO techyes city recommending koss ksc75s, just saying that if you're not satisfied with the onboard audio, apple made a dongle (usb c to 3.5mm) which is very clean very good sounding (upgrade over any onboard audio btw and I use it myself), also don't forget to put yaxi pads on them to make them even better, or you can cop a kph30i/porta pro for the warmer sound. Either one you cop, it will be good, and also, thank you for informing non audio enthusiast about koss, you're doing good stuff with that
How would this compare to an X79 combo? I’ve seen a few cpu, mb, ram combos around that $100 price point. And some of those Ali express mobos have m.2 slots. I find it hard to recommend x58 in 2021 unless you already have a working mobo.

MSI X58 Pro-E User here. Northbridge was running at 90°C in idle, and this was after new Thermalpaste btw. So i installed 2x40mm Fans . Now im fine with 60°C in Idle. This Boards are made for Top Blowers and need good Airflow too. Bryan have you ever tried to overclock a E5649?
Where did you get so much ECC ram for so cheap? I'm typically finding most sellers are selling each 8gb dim for 20$ CAD. Similar value to AUD I believe
Hi Brian :) I’ve been watching a lot of your videos and I wanted to try to build my very first PC with used parts here in the Philippines. On hand, I have an old i5-3470, 4gb RAM, and a 500gb HDD. Using Facebook Marketplace I found out that the parts here are scarce, since a lot of people are like wild animals hunting for them used pc parts and are fast at transacting with the seller. Luckily I found another 4gb RAM for 10$, (I’ll just change to USD so everyone can understand) a Deepcool bronze 500w for 30$, (it was really clean, almost brand new) and the best deal I found with the help from a friend was an RX 570 for 80$. I also got a Coolermaster Hyper 212 LED for 13$. I bought an ASUS PH61-M for 40$ from Shopee, (They said it was used, but it was really clean and almost brand new, Shopee is like Aliexpress) and the case I got from a local store for 13$. The pc is working fine now, overall expenses were about 200$ and I’m really happy with the result. Thank you Brian for giving me the inspiration to build a pc using only used parts! No question the SNOWMAN with dual 120mm fan and 6 pipes is a BEAST of a CPU cooler and for the money (~US$ 32), can easily handle a TDP of ~160W. It is an excellent product for budget over-clockers. It handles the E5-1660 and 1650V2 overclocked to 4.1 and 4.3 GHz, resp., with aplomb. Also, it keeps my 12 core E5-2678V3 running VERY cool, even with a turbo-unlocked all core of between 3.2 to 3.3GHz. On all Chinese motherboards, to include the well-built HZ deluxe X79, I play it safe and use at least an 80mm fan on the the VRM heatsink. PS: Stepping up to the E5-1680v2 (OC'd to 4.4Ghz on a P9X79Pro) I am using the PCCooler GI-D66A (~US$70), with a TDP of 230W. I am using an open air vertical test bench in permanent configuration for this particular daily driver. To include two 90mm Blue fans (place above and neatly mounted with tie wraps to the handle of the test bench) on the VRM heatsink and RAM slots and one side-mounted 120mm RGB running across the GPU and lower area under the CPU cooler. Of course, I do not have young children or pets in the house, so I can live with the open air system...looks cool on my desk top too! Also, I like the ease of de-dusting the open air design...a quick clean every two weeks with a cheap electric blower and voila.
Normally I would be interested in something like this, but I've been able to pick up Dell Precision T3500's so cheap (around $75 US). I still might pick one up for a green themed sale.
Congratulations on your good work with these older platforms! Just out of curiosity.... Are the Aerocool XPredator or GT-S Full tower cases still available in Australia? I've been looking for them for some time. They're very difficult to find in good shape here in Brazil. I like full tower cases from the early 2010's. I thought that maybe they could still be available in Australia since I saw many Predator reviews from Australian channels.
Why still X58 when there are similar X79 and X99 platforms? I know you personally like them. Maybe a comparison video for theye platforms for these Aliexpress boards?
this is my thought as well, a cheap x58 board and ddr3 ecc is like the same average price as a cheap x79 board. X99 is kinda pushed out of the super-low budget by needing ddr4 tho.
So if xeon processors are cheap and you can buy a whole combo for around 80$, do you still need the second hand older intel cores or older ryzens, i mean if xeon are cheap and have a lot of cores and are offering good performance for the price why would you buy like the new i3 or a cheaper ryzen
Those old Xeons do have some drawbacks. Their per-core performance is low compared to more modern options and they are missing some newer instruction sets eg. AVX or SSE 4.2 which means some modern games cannot even launch with them. They're still okay for esports type games but if you are hoping to play some modern AAA titles it becomes hit or miss whether those old CPUs will work.
Great vid! But I was thinking, wouldn't a x79 combo, or even x99 from aliexpress would be better for the money? For example, I just paid 110$ for Xeon 2620v3, 16gb ddr4 and a huanzhi motherboard. This combo usually goes for 150, but x79 combos do go for 100$ no?
Its all about purchasing power, sometimes you can't spend the extra $20 or $30. I did just get my E5-2678 for ~$92 shipped. Got charged close to 7 bucks in tax though.

@@kosh2501 if the order comes from China, usually 3-4 weeks. I try to find warehouses from Spain whenever possible (I'm portuguese), these usually get to me in just a few days.
I got a question for the community. I got some strange instability in my system. It's an Asus p6t-SE, 12GB of ram, w3680 overclocked to 3.8Ghz atm have had it up to 4.2Ghz, 1070ti, and Soundblaster-z, windows 10. now for the issues, I have noticed that the longer the computer is on(18 hours+ sometimes sooner) the sound will start to become occasionally weird, crackles pops or even drags general performance of the system seems to drop. another issue I have noticed recently is that if I have a tab on the taskbar and I right-click it to bring up options it can take a while for the menu to open if it opens. sometimes its taken several attempts before my system responds to the action of right-clicking. all of this is resolved by a restart but I like to figure something out. I know the hardware is a bit dated but it keeps playing every game i throw at it. thank you to everyone with ideas. the system passes memtest left on for over 24 hours passes all benchmarks no issues. I am starting to suspect the memory controller in the CPU. I read somewhere that these 1366 based CPUs had sensitive memory controllers. was reading that over time they get stressed or can become stressed. idk
I was searching for vids of x58 since I was planning to build a cheap x58 LGA 1366 with Xeon x5680 for gaming and I saw your channel. Do you think it is worth the money to spend $100 for x58 build? I am a bit worried that 2nd hand x58 with xeon x5680 might die quicker than expected.
I've got a couple of these boards and a handful of i7 9xx chips. Tested with RX 480 8G and a GTX 1070. Was pleasantly surprised how the gpus were still the bottleneck in a handful of games tested. Though the chips did turbo WAYYYY higher than spec. I saw upwards of 4GHz on my i7-950 without touching any settings whatsoever. Have you tried any of those chips along with the xeons? Apologies if was featured in a previous vid already.
Yo Bryan have you ever tried one of those Chinese B85 motherboards? theres this one brand that's really popular in my country called Jgenyue B85VH-M and people are using them from old i3 pcs to xeon builds, would you mind checking them out?
i had taken a similar budget x58 chinese motherboard but without the possibility to overclock for my W3690 and i noticed that sometimes the bluetooth dongle or wifi randomly disconnects , it would be a overheat issue of the phase or VRM or it could be only a bad manifacture of the motherboard ?
I strongly recommend against the x58 platform today, unless money is an absolute limitation. Those boards and chips are getting too old at this point, and they're pretty power inefficient. I would instead recommend getting x79 for not much more, or if you have a bit more to spend, an x99 (you can get a ddr3 capable mobo, ddr4 is $$). Both have cheap processors you can pair them with, with much newer lithography. I just built a home server with an x99-k9 board and an e5-2630L v3. 8 Cores, reasonably quick and super low power.
I just got this board and modded a Northbridge fan on it, used the sys fan header to power it, i have a X5570 in it right now and locally i can get a E5645 for 10 euro. should i take it or no?

I was tempted in the past Bryan, ideally a dual CPU board (for an actual budget server) however two thing ultimately put me off, hard to find a supported HSF and more importantly limited amount of RAM slots. In the end I took my first step into the server world with a HP Blade. Actually I made my own RUclips video on that!
Still have my x5670 with the Gigabyte x58A-UD3R. Great little CPU, pushes 4 GHz on all 6 cores sustained. Only downside is that it does not support AVX instructions which many software now requires.
I just got a Precision T3500 with an X58 board, a Xeon W3565 on an eBay auction for 56£ (unfortunately, with shipping and taxes to Portugal it came up to 86£), but nonetheless I got an amazing beast with 12GB DDR3 RAM for 90£ (100€)! Couldn't be happier.
Have you tried doing any of the Dual x99 CPU builds? I am waiting on a HUANANZHI X99 F8D to come in. I am going to try to get two 2698v3s working. I want to build a "cheap" thread monster. Curious if anyone has tried the higher end Xeons in these boards.

the x5650..x5660 x5675 x5680 x5690 ... all are the same in avx instructions ?? ... that changes 1 of other only frequencies and tdp ??? ... Greetings from Santiago Chile
I just got my build with this board! But, only the left ram slot works.. the second one is not working I think. I only shows 8gb instead of 16gb of ram. But both ram slots work by themselves on the left slot. It won't boot with one ram slot on the right side. Am I missing something? Or is that second ram slot bad?
On Oct 2020 i upgrade from my Xeon W3690 to Ryzen 7 3800X just because my xeon lack AVX needed in some new game title now... but still it going live on with my RX 470D for older title for now. Long live X58 user out there...
I have been using a DIY upgraded Dell Precision T3500, by updating the HDD to a SSD, CPU to a Xeon W3680 (6C8T 3.33-3.6Ghz) and GPU to 8GB RX580. And because I am not interested in OC this desktop, this was fantastic upgrade with minimal costs. However, the draw back is, heat issue with RX580 in a proprietary casing like Dell, cooling became an issue considering RX5802 does produce quite a bit of heat. So I have been trying to see if I can move the whole setup to a after market casing, which means requires change of Motherboard, as Dell motherboard cannot be moved into standard case because of the podiatry Ports mapping on the board. So this mean, if move to new casing, requires to change MB which made me look into this as well. After awhile I decided not to. This is because unfortunately these motherboard only has 2 (occasionally 3 DIM slot for RAM, which mean I can get 12gb onto it (as i only have 4gb sticks), and because of the new motherboard, window 10 OEM license in the Dell will not work and will require brand new Window 10 license..... costs starts to add up to a point of buy some cheaper used AMD FX cpu and mb combo instead.....
Hey, I’ve been looking to get a new GPU for my T3500. I’ve read some posts regarding that the RX 400/500 series don’t post because of the Dell’s legacy BIOS and they only support UEFI. Did yours work out of the box?
@@zireael666 Mine work out of box without issues. I have 2x Dell Precision T3500. I used one with RX580 8gb without problem. Another one for my daughter, I installed with RX570 8gb, out of box without problem. So definitely not UEFI only
Got one really looking like this, but the vrm dissipator is a little diferent. Mine doesnt have overclock option. I would like very much to know about a way to update with your version to be able to overclock, but I cant find anywhere.
one thing with fortnite, i run test a lot on it, and last season is very wierd in term of performance. you can go up to 200 and get low as 80fps in competitive, some part of the map are not optimised well (sands area) and it seems that all nvidia cards i tried so far lost quite a few performance with this patch. (in competitive / low setting)
I have an i7 920 lying around. I was wondering if this board can hold this cpu, since I saw 2 Asus motherboards die (2-3 years apart) running at 4.0GHz. It will probably kill it.

I really do have a soft spot for X58, nonetheless I think that depending on your budget and local market it would be a little more convenient to either buy a decommissioned Dell T3500 or HP Z400 (or even only the MB) if you really want an X58 machine or pull the trigger and make the jump directly towards X99, as the cheapest E5-2620v3 kits including a decent quad channel capable and actively cooled VRM MB and 16 GB of RAM can be acquired from AliExpress for around $150 USD and offer a pretty interesting upgrade path even today. X79 has the disadvantage that budget Chinese boards are limited because of the use of dual channel memory only (instead of native quad channel) and that the upgrade path is limited to only the 6c CPUs due to their weak VRM cooling solution. Was just talking about this yesterday, my bud invested another $200 in Xeon memory and more into his Xeon army. Though that's a server use case for him, was wondering about how gaming use case went. Perfect timing to contemplate.
I have this board brand x58, except mine has 3 ram slots supporting triple channel. It also has a fan for the NB chip heatsink that came with it. I use a CPU heatsink similar to yours with a fan on each side directed towards the rear of the case with a case fan blowing outward and the air flow across the VRM stays fairy cool. With the x5670 I use in it, the system never gets overly hot, it's well within safe range. This is proof systems use the GPU more for games and that's the key. My i5 6500 z170 board doesn't do any better than the x58 will with the same GPU. Only real difference is various options like for m.2 and bus speeds. Don't need to spend tons of cash to play games at a decent frame rate.

I got a spare server motherboard for Dell m610 blades for cheap, it has dual CPU sockets, I am trying to hack the power supply to feed the 12V rails, as this board was designed for a rack plug, not the standard molex connector. Hunting for other dual Xeon sockets motherboards, if you know some...
AYO techyes city recommending koss ksc75s, just saying that if you're not satisfied with the onboard audio, apple made a dongle (usb c to 3.5mm) which is very clean very good sounding (upgrade over any onboard audio btw and I use it myself), also don't forget to put yaxi pads on them to make them even better, or you can cop a kph30i/porta pro for the warmer sound. Either one you cop, it will be good, and also, thank you for informing non audio enthusiast about koss, you're doing good stuff with that
How would this compare to an X79 combo? I’ve seen a few cpu, mb, ram combos around that $100 price point. And some of those Ali express mobos have m.2 slots. I find it hard to recommend x58 in 2021 unless you already have a working mobo.
X79 with an E5 1650/60v2 is pretty potent when overclocked, plus it has AVX so you're not gonna be limited by the games that need it to run.

MSI X58 Pro-E User here. Northbridge was running at 90°C in idle, and this was after new Thermalpaste btw. So i installed 2x40mm Fans . Now im fine with 60°C in Idle. This Boards are made for Top Blowers and need good Airflow too. Bryan have you ever tried to overclock a E5649?

Hi Brian :) I’ve been watching a lot of your videos and I wanted to try to build my very first PC with used parts here in the Philippines. On hand, I have an old i5-3470, 4gb RAM, and a 500gb HDD. Using Facebook Marketplace I found out that the parts here are scarce, since a lot of people are like wild animals hunting for them used pc parts and are fast at transacting with the seller. Luckily I found another 4gb RAM for 10$, (I’ll just change to USD so everyone can understand) a Deepcool bronze 500w for 30$, (it was really clean, almost brand new) and the best deal I found with the help from a friend was an RX 570 for 80$. I also got a Coolermaster Hyper 212 LED for 13$. I bought an ASUS PH61-M for 40$ from Shopee, (They said it was used, but it was really clean and almost brand new, Shopee is like Aliexpress) and the case I got from a local store for 13$. The pc is working fine now, overall expenses were about 200$ and I’m really happy with the result. Thank you Brian for giving me the inspiration to build a pc using only used parts! @@valuehunter5544 in his case a 3770 will probly run him 60% of the entire cost of his pc asumeing he could find it. But if he can its basicly on Par with a ryzen 3400g and should hold off most esports games

No question the SNOWMAN with dual 120mm fan and 6 pipes is a BEAST of a CPU cooler and for the money (~US$ 32), can easily handle a TDP of ~160W. It is an excellent product for budget over-clockers. It handles the E5-1660 and 1650V2 overclocked to 4.1 and 4.3 GHz, resp., with aplomb. Also, it keeps my 12 core E5-2678V3 running VERY cool, even with a turbo-unlocked all core of between 3.2 to 3.3GHz.
On all Chinese motherboards, to include the well-built HZ deluxe X79, I play it safe and use at least an 80mm fan on the the VRM heatsink.
PS: Stepping up to the E5-1680v2 (OC'd to 4.4Ghz on a P9X79Pro) I am using the PCCooler GI-D66A (~US$70), with a TDP of 230W. I am using an open air vertical test bench in permanent configuration for this particular daily driver. To include two 90mm Blue fans (place above and neatly mounted with tie wraps to the handle of the test bench) on the VRM heatsink and RAM slots and one side-mounted 120mm RGB running across the GPU and lower area under the CPU cooler. Of course, I do not have young children or pets in the house, so I can live with the open air system...looks cool on my desk top too! Also, I like the ease of de-dusting the open air design...a quick clean every two weeks with a cheap electric blower and voila.
Normally I would be interested in something like this, but I've been able to pick up Dell Precision T3500's so cheap (around $75 US). I still might pick one up for a green themed sale.
Just picked up a xeon e5 2670 for $40 off gumtree. Going to check out one of those cheap "x79" motherboards and see how we go.

Just out of curiosity.... Are the Aerocool XPredator or GT-S Full tower cases still available in Australia? I've been looking for them for some time. They're very difficult to find in good shape here in Brazil. I like full tower cases from the early 2010's. I thought that maybe they could still be available in Australia since I saw many Predator reviews from Australian channels.

Why still X58 when there are similar X79 and X99 platforms? I know you personally like them. Maybe a comparison video for theye platforms for these Aliexpress boards?
this is my thought as well, a cheap x58 board and ddr3 ecc is like the same average price as a cheap x79 board. X99 is kinda pushed out of the super-low budget by needing ddr4 tho.
I think it is the cheaper CPU's that are available.. What is the cost for a CPU to suit X79 ??

So if xeon processors are cheap and you can buy a whole combo for around 80$, do you still need the second hand older intel cores or older ryzens, i mean if xeon are cheap and have a lot of cores and are offering good performance for the price why would you buy like the new i3 or a cheaper ryzen
Those old Xeons do have some drawbacks. Their per-core performance is low compared to more modern options and they are missing some newer instruction sets eg. AVX or SSE 4.2 which means some modern games cannot even launch with them. They're still okay for esports type games but if you are hoping to play some modern AAA titles it becomes hit or miss whether those old CPUs will work.
Great vid! But I was thinking, wouldn't a x79 combo, or even x99 from aliexpress would be better for the money? For example, I just paid 110$ for Xeon 2620v3, 16gb ddr4 and a huanzhi motherboard. This combo usually goes for 150, but x79 combos do go for 100$ no?
Its all about purchasing power, sometimes you can't spend the extra $20 or $30. I did just get my E5-2678 for ~$92 shipped. Got charged close to 7 bucks in tax though.

@@kosh2501 if the order comes from China, usually 3-4 weeks. I try to find warehouses from Spain whenever possible (I'm portuguese), these usually get to me in just a few days.

I got a question for the community. I got some strange instability in my system. It's an Asus p6t-SE, 12GB of ram, w3680 overclocked to 3.8Ghz atm have had it up to 4.2Ghz, 1070ti, and Soundblaster-z, windows 10. now for the issues, I have noticed that the longer the computer is on(18 hours+ sometimes sooner) the sound will start to become occasionally weird, crackles pops or even drags general performance of the system seems to drop. another issue I have noticed recently is that if I have a tab on the taskbar and I right-click it to bring up options it can take a while for the menu to open if it opens. sometimes its taken several attempts before my system responds to the action of right-clicking. all of this is resolved by a restart but I like to figure something out. I know the hardware is a bit dated but it keeps playing every game i throw at it. thank you to everyone with ideas.
the system passes memtest left on for over 24 hours
passes all benchmarks no issues. I am starting to suspect the memory controller in the CPU. I read somewhere that these 1366 based CPUs had sensitive memory controllers. was reading that over time they get stressed or can become stressed. idk
Get a heatsink with the fan blowing on the mobo (perpendicular instead of parallel) and you're pretty much set. Lower profile too.
I was searching for vids of x58 since I was planning to build a cheap x58 LGA 1366 with Xeon x5680 for gaming and I saw your channel. Do you think it is worth the money to spend $100 for x58 build? I am a bit worried that 2nd hand x58 with xeon x5680 might die quicker than expected.

I've got a couple of these boards and a handful of i7 9xx chips. Tested with RX 480 8G and a GTX 1070. Was pleasantly surprised how the gpus were still the bottleneck in a handful of games tested. Though the chips did turbo WAYYYY higher than spec. I saw upwards of 4GHz on my i7-950 without touching any settings whatsoever. Have you tried any of those chips along with the xeons? Apologies if was featured in a previous vid already.

i had taken a similar budget x58 chinese motherboard but without the possibility to overclock for my W3690 and i noticed that sometimes the bluetooth dongle or wifi randomly disconnects , it would be a overheat issue of the phase or VRM or it could be only a bad manifacture of the motherboard ?
I strongly recommend against the x58 platform today, unless money is an absolute limitation. Those boards and chips are getting too old at this point, and they're pretty power inefficient.
I would instead recommend getting x79 for not much more, or if you have a bit more to spend, an x99 (you can get a ddr3 capable mobo, ddr4 is $$). Both have cheap processors you can pair them with, with much newer lithography.
I just built a home server with an x99-k9 board and an e5-2630L v3. 8 Cores, reasonably quick and super low power.
I just got this board and modded a Northbridge fan on it, used the sys fan header to power it, i have a X5570 in it right now and locally i can get a E5645 for 10 euro. should i take it or no?
What about aftermarket VRM coolers with a fan? Do any of those exist? This seems like a common problem on sub $50 dollar MBs.

I was tempted in the past Bryan, ideally a dual CPU board (for an actual budget server) however two thing ultimately put me off, hard to find a supported HSF and more importantly limited amount of RAM slots. In the end I took my first step into the server world with a HP Blade. Actually I made my own RUclips video on that!

Still have my x5670 with the Gigabyte x58A-UD3R. Great little CPU, pushes 4 GHz on all 6 cores sustained. Only downside is that it does not support AVX instructions which many software now requires.

I just got a Precision T3500 with an X58 board, a Xeon W3565 on an eBay auction for 56£ (unfortunately, with shipping and taxes to Portugal it came up to 86£), but nonetheless I got an amazing beast with 12GB DDR3 RAM for 90£ (100€)! Couldn't be happier.
Would it not make far more sense to use a different cpu cooler for this board? Something that blows downward across the vrm.

I just got my build with this board! But, only the left ram slot works.. the second one is not working I think. I only shows 8gb instead of 16gb of ram. But both ram slots work by themselves on the left slot. It won't boot with one ram slot on the right side. Am I missing something? Or is that second ram slot bad?

On Oct 2020 i upgrade from my Xeon W3690 to Ryzen 7 3800X just because my xeon lack AVX needed in some new game title now... but still it going live on with my RX 470D for older title for now. Long live X58 user out there...
I have been using a DIY upgraded Dell Precision T3500, by updating the HDD to a SSD, CPU to a Xeon W3680 (6C8T 3.33-3.6Ghz) and GPU to 8GB RX580. And because I am not interested in OC this desktop, this was fantastic upgrade with minimal costs. However, the draw back is, heat issue with RX580 in a proprietary casing like Dell, cooling became an issue considering RX5802 does produce quite a bit of heat.
So I have been trying to see if I can move the whole setup to a after market casing, which means requires change of Motherboard, as Dell motherboard cannot be moved into standard case because of the podiatry Ports mapping on the board. So this mean, if move to new casing, requires to change MB which made me look into this as well. After awhile I decided not to. This is because unfortunately these motherboard only has 2 (occasionally 3 DIM slot for RAM, which mean I can get 12gb onto it (as i only have 4gb sticks), and because of the new motherboard, window 10 OEM license in the Dell will not work and will require brand new Window 10 license..... costs starts to add up to a point of buy some cheaper used AMD FX cpu and mb combo instead.....
Hey, I’ve been looking to get a new GPU for my T3500. I’ve read some posts regarding that the RX 400/500 series don’t post because of the Dell’s legacy BIOS and they only support UEFI. Did yours work out of the box?
@@zireael666 Mine work out of box without issues. I have 2x Dell Precision T3500. I used one with RX580 8gb without problem. Another one for my daughter, I installed with RX570 8gb, out of box without problem. So definitely not UEFI only
Got one really looking like this, but the vrm dissipator is a little diferent. Mine doesnt have overclock option. I would like very much to know about a way to update with your version to be able to overclock, but I cant find anywhere.
Just bought a combo with a E5-2678 and it.does pretty well. I got it to boost to 3.5 vs the 3.0 with decent cooling all around

one thing with fortnite, i run test a lot on it, and last season is very wierd in term of performance. you can go up to 200 and get low as 80fps in competitive, some part of the map are not optimised well (sands area) and it seems that all nvidia cards i tried so far lost quite a few performance with this patch. (in competitive / low setting)
I have an i7 920 lying around. I was wondering if this board can hold this cpu, since I saw 2 Asus motherboards die (2-3 years apart) running at 4.0GHz. It will probably kill it.

I really do have a soft spot for X58, nonetheless I think that depending on your budget and local market it would be a little more convenient to either buy a decommissioned Dell T3500 or HP Z400 (or even only the MB) if you really want an X58 machine or pull the trigger and make the jump directly towards X99, as the cheapest E5-2620v3 kits including a decent quad channel capable and actively cooled VRM MB and 16 GB of RAM can be acquired from AliExpress for around $150 USD and offer a pretty interesting upgrade path even today. X79 has the disadvantage that budget Chinese boards are limited because of the use of dual channel memory only (instead of native quad channel) and that the upgrade path is limited to only the 6c CPUs due to their weak VRM cooling solution.
