Discontinued Foods We Wished They Would Bring Back

- Weird History Food is gonna make you nostalgic for some discontinued foods that we'd all want back. The food and beverage industry is a tricky one. For something that's so essential to human life - eating and drinking - it's still difficult to create and market a successful product. That's to be expected. Eating and drinking are highly personal acts, and creating a product that appeals to millions of people takes exhaustive work.
Occasionally, some companies beat the odds and introduce an edible or potable that connects with the public. It's more likely, however, that such products will fail, even with the expertise and marketing budget of a multinational corporation.

Miss altoids sours so much. They weren’t really that sour, they were a really good balance of sour and sweet.
Literally no candy tastes like them and they came in a rlly nice metal tin that people found clever ways to reuse.
If you look up Lofty Pursuits in Tallahassee Florida, they make a supposed mock flavor they worked on for like a year to match the citrus altoid sour flavor
Dude i totally forgot about these. I would eat them by the handful.
They were really great to snack on, I also miss them and would not mind them bringing them back.
These were so good I once bought a 3-year-expired tin of them off eBay
It was not a great experience 😅
OMG same 😂 Tangerine flavor for the win
How could ya'll do this video without covering one of the worst snack cancellations of all time. The Philadelphia Cheesecake Bars. God i miss those.
Omggg those were so good 😭
!!!!!!!!
I drank a truly unholy amount of Hi-C Ecto Cooler when I was in middle school. It came in those 46-ounce (1.36L for the metric inclined) cans that you had to open by using a beer opener to poke two holes in the top of.
My dad passed away when I was in fourth grade, and my mom, ever the quick wit, joked "I'm glad I didn't throw that thing out when your dad died" when my brother and I needed it for our neon green beverage fix a couple years later.
Yep, we had this cans too. And the juicy-juice ones. They sat on the floor in the panty
Churchkeys are what those little triangular hole-pokers are called. They were the predecessor to the modern can opener, back when cans were filled with liquids and not so much solids because people didn't really have a standard way to efficiently cut them open besides that one.
I think Butterfinger BB's we're created to get Butterfingers into the movie theaters no one's going to crunch on a large Butterfinger bar while watching a movie but make them spheres and we're in
Man as a 90s kid I devoured BBs. I am still upset they’re gone to this day
I still think of Bart Simpson whenever I hear about Butterfinger BBs again
One of the most unfortunate discontinued snacks, I'd be okay with sending back some snack out today to get BB's back. I recently made another video about some other discontinued snacks that stand out the most to me
Even if they had brought it back for a limited time. Butterfingers' don't taste as well as before after they change the recipe.
It taste burnt. I haven't had one in years😢
They were so good! Best movie theater candy of all time
@@everylastcrumb are you related to weird history food?
Different flavors of soda were available back then such as creamcicle, dry orange, birch beer, etc. I miss them all.
You can still get birch beer in New England. If you're in a town with a candlepin bowling alley, there's probably a grocery store carrying Polar Birch Beer.
You can get it in Newfoundland too! Used to love it growing up.
If your grocery store has a world foods section or you live near an import store you can get some pretty unusual ones
Pennsylvania Dutch Birch Beer still sells well in PA and NJ...
Creamsicle was the best. I made 2 videos recently about sodas from the 19th and 20th century going over a lot of these iconic flavors
The ones I remember and miss the most are the s'mores ritz bits and butterfinger bbs! I wouldn't say I miss them exactly but talk of discontinued foods always reminds me of the crazy colored ketchup (green and purple) and squeeze butter (blue and pink) they had back in the day
I miss those Altoids Magno Sour candies
An old favor of mine that I truly miss is Pepsi Light. Half the calories of regular Pepsi with a lemony taste. 🍋
Oh i think I remember this
I remember that.
I thought I was the only one who remembered that🎉 my favorite soda besides TAB😂😂
The discontinued product I miss the most is the Bar-None chocolate bar - the original recipe. Shortly before it was discontinued, they changed it to two thinner bars, I guess to compete with Twix. It was soooo chocolatey and good!
Totally forgot about this one. I made a recent video about some other iconic discontinued foods on my channel!
I cant explain how much i LOVED those cereal straws from the early 2010s, especially the froot loop one. I used to eat em constantly as a kid and it sucked so bad to watch em get discontinued.. i heard they came back recently but I havent been able to find any boxes of em
I found some at five below this week!
And yet Thrills soap flavored gum is still found in every candy aisle.
you and I watch a lot of the same videos, because I see your comments a lot. lol
I wish Domino's would bring back the Cinnastix. Those were so good.
Oh, and I wish Doritos would bring back the Ranchero chips. If I recall correctly, they became discontinued in like 2006 or 07
The Cheetos paws were SO GOOD. I remember being in high school, and getting a pack with an Avengers collectable in it, and it just made the experience even better. Always wondered why I never saw 'em again
The ones out now don't taste the same, either.
I do wish they would bring back the Butterfinger BB's, they were perfect size for when you didn't want a whole candy bar. There was also a soda way way back called Aspen that was an apple flavor but not super sweet and I loved it.
Me too, I miss Butterfinger BBs.
Wow I forgot about the Girl Scout Lemon Creme, I loved those
The Pre Anti-oxidant formula Cherry Sprite tasted much differently than its current incarnation, very easy to notice when it happened.
Hostess Bear Chompers, Nestle Alpine White, PB Crisps are definitely top of my list that need to come back!
PB CRISPS FOREVER!
Nestle crunch white chocolate was my ambrosia!
A new weird food history video is released every time I'm hospitalized. Gotta get sick more often.
Had surgery today, what a coincidence
O'Boises from Keebler and Cool Britannia/Mission to Marzipan from Ben & Jerry's -- I want 'em back!
I miss pudding pops. And the flavor Doritos needs to bring back are the salsa flavored ones. Those were the best flavor they've ever had. And a cookie I really miss were called Lemon Coolers. They were shortbread cookies, with lemon frosting in the center, covered in powdered sugar.
RIP salsa Dorritos.
They should bring back the Cookies & (M&M's, Twix, Snickers) Bars
I remember those. I never even bought one because it was in a box and I know my mother wouldn't buy them because I know I would eat them😂. Plus I thought it was a bit over-popular at the time
Oh man savannah smiles were my favorite besides the samoas, wish they would bring back the savannah smiles
Chee-tos Paws were harder and crunchier than the regular/original stick ones--more like the consistency of cap'n crunch. And they could shred your gums the same way.
I'd wish they'd bring back creme lifesavers ... And clearly Canadian that drink was my favorite ❤
I saw cream savors! It was in a corner store about a month ago.
And they brought back Cleary Canadian(though I remember it as Mystic) they just don't have Raspberry boisenberry.
I would like if Lifesaver brought back the clear one that had a red and green center.
@@jkseraphim4 oh man really they brought the drink back ... Yay. Tôo vad they dont sell it here. Even creme savers.
We've got Clearly Canadian here but at $4 a bottle I ain't buying.
I had a bunch of the mint flavored Life Saver Holes and I was selling them to kids in my building and the security guard in my building thought they were drugs lol
A+ video!
Awesome discontinued food that need to come back!
Cheese Nips, Yogos, and Rold Gold Honey Mustard Pretzels were so good! I miss them. I also wish Dr Pepper would permanently bring back the Dark Berry Dr Pepper flavor, it was so good! I had an opportunity to try the Crunch Tators limited edition re-release, and now I wish Frito-Lay would permanently make Crunch Tators.
I’ve been looking for the role gold honey mustard pretzels for so long 😭😭
I miss the butter pretzel
Weird history of Lasagna 😌😞
Good luck. /salute
You’ll get that video someday, I promise!
Oh Garfieeeeeeeld...
PB Max was the best candy bar I ever had... and then they cruely snatched it away, like so many things...
My understanding is that they were still selling well, but the execs didn't PERSONALLY like them. SO stupid.
@@richardadams4928 Right? "WE hate peanut butter, so NO ONE should get any!"
I miss Keebler Pizzareas 😭
Yes!!!!
0:55 There was a Simpson's album called The Simpson's Sing The Blues (1990).
The lead single was "Do The Bartman," which was an international success and hit #1 in the United Kingdom.
It was a fun album to listen to, I used to have it and listened to it a lot.
Space Food Sticks were my jam in second grade.
I loved those!! I can't even find anyone who remembers them!!!
Mmmmmm Butterfingers🤤
Re: The Stalin/Nikolai Yezhov photograph. Wow, that took me by surprise. A most obscure yet appropriate reference. Big kudos to whoever added that.
I miss Mystic soda. Clearly Canadian too, but that one came back. Stewart's Ginger beer and Crystal Club's 50/50 i also greatly miss😢
I always liked the Clearly Canadian mint flavor. Unfortunately, that's not one they offer anymore.
How has this channel not got more subscribers, high quality content!!
For me the discontinued food I miss the most is Creme Savers, those were my absolute favorite candy as a kid... but on the plus side, a google search has said they have been brought back as a Big Lots exclusive, so I guess I better see if I can find some
Oh man I didn’t even know they discontinued them, they were amazing and just the perfect amount of sweet! Looks like I’ll be heading to big lots then!
They’re back! I have some in my kitchen right now, orange and strawberry
They're at world market have been for years
Dollar tree has an off brand that is similar
Starbucks used to make different varieties of coffee ice cream. It was awesome.
I also miss the old school PB&J Pop Tarts with the grape jelly.
I totally forgot about the Lifesavers Holes!! so adorbs. I love Ben&Jerry's but get so tired of all the repetitive versions of: caramel, oreo and fudge. Would LOVE to revive that super packed nutty and rum ball options!!
Dang. You left out the Hershey's S'mores candy bar! They had those back in the early 00's and were may favorite Candy bar when I was a kid.
I miss the Ritz S'mores & the Thanks A Lots the most. Those were my favorite Girl Scout cookies. 😭
I would love to see the resurrection of Wavy Gravy.
You can get tangerine sours still (sort of) a candy shop in Florida called Lofty Pursuits recreated them. They have a channel on youtube where they showed the process they took.
I wish they brought back Fiesta Almond and Montigo 🥺 - and oh, if you never heard of them, they've a snack and a drink made by Ferrero in Italy in the 80s 😅
Discontinued things I miss:
Peanut Butter Twix
Certs
Apple Ginger A-Ha Sparkling Water
Tab Soda
Garden Tomato & Basil Lay's
BarNone candy bar (there's a new version I see at World Market sometimes, but it's not the same)
McDonald's Snack Wraps
Taco Bell Enchirito
Shark Bites
Fruitopia
Jell-O Pudding Pops
Mickey's Parade Ice Pops
Loved fruitopia...
I would love to see Planter's cheese curls back. They were addictive! So good! Better than anything in the market. Hm... come to think of it, I'm trying to lose weight. Yeah, don't bring them back. 😅😅😅. Any idea why they stopped making them?
The cheese balls are back, if that’s of any interest to you. I got a few cans like 4 months ago. I’ve been googling them every few months for years hoping to find them making a comeback and they finally have!
@@RavenFilms good to know. I'm very partial to the curls because of the crunch. The balls aren't as crunchy. Thanks for the tip! I'll keep my eyes open.
@@PhoenixBeI Happy to help!
Of all these, I loved 7Up Gold, Altoids Sours, and Lemon Chalet Cream Girl Scout cookies. IIRC there was a fad in the very early 90s for clear stuff in general like toothpaste and soap, etc., and a little later, Zima.
yummy yummy 😋😋 good for the tummy!!!
I wish Ben and Jerry's would bring back the Wavy Gravy flavor, and the Peanut Butter and Jelly, too.
Why not roast chicken flavour, or Hawaiian pizza
Altoid tangerine was so good and so popular, I would bet every millennial would be happy to see them back on the shelves. I was also a big butterfinger BBs fan, they were my go to movie snack. Doritos loco's tacos are so good.
@6:02 I have acted as the character Santa Clause four times already.
I played him for our elementary school christmas play as the lead part ("Surfin' Santa), then two years in a row for a local school christmas concert (the second time asked back by popular demand) and finally as him to visit one of the villager's son for a favor.
Weird not to mention the reboot of Crystal Pepsi when you directly referenced the weirdo who chugged one and puked it up.
@5:47 The Coneheads was such a unforgettable SNL skit!
@1:44 Hahaha! Awesome clip!
I have a bag of taco Doritos in my kitchen and we bought Thanks-a-lots during the last cookie season. Maybe these things are now regional?
I LOVED altoids sours. Also, I just saw the Paws on the shelf the other day so I might have to grab some.
They DID release DLT flavored Doritos when they first came out, I remember seeing them at the grocery store around 2012-2013.
I was coming to comment this. They were good.
One discontinued snack I would love to eat again is called the Cookie Barz, there were three flavors, Oreo, Chips Ahoy, and Rainbow Chips Ahoy. They were SO GOOD (I can sometimes still taste them in my mind.)
love the irony of the lifesaver story. considering the hole was to prevent choking, thus the name.
Monster Candy. It was a Halloween trick or treat staple when I was growing up….they were sugar wafers with a monster printed on them with red/pink food coloring that came small cardboard box with a Universal monster on them….Dracula, Frankenstein, the Mummy, the Wolfman, and the Phantom of the Opera.
good video
Butterfinger BBs and Cheetos Paws were my jam when I was a small child. I wish those would come back!
That ice cream sounds pretty good, but I wouldn't want to go into a store and ask for it, lol.
I loved 7UP Gold!!! I also loved Apple Slice!! I miss both of them
Thanks for this! I wouldn't mind more Cherry 7Up (or a diet version). 🍒 #WeirdHistoryFood #FoodHistory #DiscontinuedFood
You forgot to add that they did bring back Crystal Pepsi for a limited time!
Cheeto's Paws had a sort lived revival in the form of Chester's Paws about a year or two ago. Came in a big plastic tub (2 gallon if I remember correctly) that I bought at Walmart.
@9:05 Nirvana Unplugged in New York is an awesome album!
We used to listen to a lot in college.
@1:04 Almost all the popular candy (with some exceptions) from the 80s is still being sold today, the candy aisle is very similar to what it used to be.
@7:57 That Crystal Pepsi commercial of theirs is great!
yess lemon chalet!! I thought I was the only one who missed them :(
We miss Milky Way Dark ice creams!!!! Never understood why they stopped being produced.
Has anyone noticed that no major cereal company has made presweetened rice puffs in the past few decades? Remember Rice Honeys?
I was a Girl Scout in the 70s and 80s and can confirm thin mint cookies were the most popular.
I'm pretty proud of all the cool things that these snacks can do in this country and I hope we can all just get along and be happy. ❣️😁
Clear coca cola was a thing in Japan pretty recently. Idk if it’s still available.
TIL some of these had been discontinued. I remember liking Butterfinger BBs and probably would've looked for them on a shelf if I still ate candy.
Doritos 3D chips, Dunkaroos cookies, and Surge drink by Coca Cola.
@7:04 Hahaha! But seriously, that is a really cool film trick.
Some snack foods I miss are Torengos, O’Gradys chips, fruit juicers life savers, tangerine life savers, fancy fruits lifesavers, apricot fruit roll ups, and fruit wrinkles.
@0:30 Love "We Like To Party!" by the Venga Boys (199)!
That is a classic Eurodance song.
I remember Ritz s'mores! I loved them from what I remember
@0:09 It is hilarious seeing that guy run with his boom box.
I fear Cherry Manichevitz has joined the list. Haven't seen it on shelves anywhere since COVID hit
I'd love to see Good Humor Strawberry Shortcake ice cream bars and Good Humor Great Canadian Mint ice cream bars back. Choc-clairs chocolate bar, Sour Starbursts and all the Hostess Munchies potato chip flavors. Sara Lee Pound cakes were really good as well with the icing. I remember they came in Vanilla, Strawberry and chocolate. McCain Croissant pizza, Hubba Bubba soda, Bubble King, lemon jolly ranchers, Popsicle Pete Chocolate, lime, and banana flavor Popsicles, Ninja Turtles pie, Keebler potato skin chips, Pizza Hut Doritos, Cadbury Rum & Butter chocolate bar. Etc.
7:58 That Crystal Pepsi race car is 🔥
Hershey cruncher had a s'more one a few years ago. I was super addicted to it.😊
I used to love Arizona Chocolate Soda back in the 90s, but I can't blame the company for discontinuing it seeing how I was the only person who didn't think it was the most disgusting thing they have ever tasted.
And the limited edition Simpsons cereals were delicious! Homer's Cinnamon Donuts were like Cheerios that managed to out-Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cinnamon Toast Crunch.
Butterfinger BB’s are at the top of my list 😋😋😋
What I truly miss is Hershey midnight kisses hot cocoa mix. It was super good and creamy.
And my biggest one is Bubble Jug. It was bought by Hubba Bubba, it never had a name brand.
The pink tropical jug was the best and it made the biggest bubbles every. I remember making a bubble as big as my head that when it popped it was all over my glasses😂
My most missed item is actually a canceled Ben & Jerry's flavor; the Crème Brulée one specifically. I check the ice cream section on every grocery store run on the chance it makes a surprise return.
There was a breakfast cereal in the 70s made by Post, called Fortified Oat Flakes. It doesn't sound too exciting, but it was totally awesome and yummy !!!
I really miss Dr. Slice. I have fond memories of getting it the local arcade.
I'm one of the few who actually liked 7-Up Gold spice w caffeine. It was dang refreshing with a bit if a bite.
7 Up Gold... "something like ginger ale, with hints of cinnamon and apple." I would like to at least TRY that!
I loved Cheetos paws! 🐾 those & Planters cheese balls. Delicious! 😋
One thing I miss is Tombstone’s deep dish mini pizzas. Those things were the best mini pizzas I’ve ever eaten.
@7:05 Those Harry Potter films were so great!
