Hog Hunting on a Cattle Ranch with Air Force Texans

  • Our long-awaited Florida Hot Hunt finally arrived near the town of Sebring, on a cattle ranch. Our guide’s name was Richard, but we later learned that his nickname for the past 50 years has been “Raw Hide”. Wild Hogs can be very dangerous with their tusks, and they are certainly not afraid of humans or much of anything else. Fortunately, we were placed on a hunting stand about 4 feet off the ground, which protected us from any charge that a wounded Wild Hog might do.

    Is that guys name Richard Cave? I grew up in Sonoma County, Northern California. My mom married a guy named Richard Cave. He was a manager on a 1,000 acre cattle ranch on Sonoma Mountain.He had a son named Richard. When you mentioned Northeast and big cattle ranch..my ears perked up, especially when you said. "Richard"

    Hello dear Dr. Russ.. It sounds like a great hunting getaway to Florida.. We also have big problems with wild hogs down here in Brazil. Back in the day some farmers brought a bunch of European hogs in order to raise them for meat.. Some of them managed to escape and in a few months they were thousands of feral pigs causing a lot of damage, destroying crops (mostly in soybean fields) and even attacking human beings and live stock.. The good news is there's no season for hunting wild boars and they are delicious in the bbq pit. A big salute from Brazil. Kleber.

      It is good to hear from you again Kleber ... and thanks for sharing. A lot of countries imported the hogs ... because they actually taste better than regular hogs to my taste buds. In the U.S. ... we imported them from everywhere, but the Russian Hogs were the wildest... and didnt require fencing to protect them from the other wild beast ... and stayed near the farm house where they were fed regularly... but in the end ... they wandered out too far and became a wild beast too. No season on them ... but no one wants them since they not only eat the grass etc... but they destroy the ground that the grass lived on.... Hunters do not harvest them as fast as they multiply... again, thanks for sharing... Dr.Russ

    How long is too long to wait before processing an animal after a hunt? I always carry some ice packs in some gallon bags and a towel and wrap up a squirrel if I get one early enough to try for a second. But I always start to get a bit antsy after about 2-3 hours feeling like I need to clean the animal soon or the meat will go bad. Never really had anyone teach me hunting and my wife and I just moved onto private property that allows me to take the small game year round.

      Dexter ...it is good to hear from you ... we are careful about what photos we use because Google can penalize ... and even eliminate a video. As I closed at the end of the video ... we drove to the ranch and found the hogs about 10 a.m. on the following morning. We got concerned about finding them at night ... since they can charge you and open up a leg with those tusks. We found them easily the next morning because buzzards were circling both ... about a 100 yards apart... and about 50 yards from where they were shot. However, the buzzards had made a very bad mess of them ... we had planned to eat a few backstraps and give the rest to charity soup kitchens ... but the mess was too great to harvest any meat .... and as I said, you need to sign up and hunt them in the morning ... so that you can find them safely and before the buzzards come. Everyone was disappointed. We plan to go back in about 6 months ... and hunt in the morning. Dr. Russ

    • @russjones6497

      We found them but didn't include those scenes in this video. We found both the next mid morning... rather than walk in the dark the night before,... never sure if a hog with tusks would charge us. They were easy to fine the next morning with buzzards circling in the sky. They had been eating our pigs since dawn, and maybe some coyotes before that. This is why I shared at the end of the video that we recommend that you schedule a morning hunt versus an evening hunt. A heat wave didn't help keep the meat good, even during the night. It was 102 degrees during the day. Google and their advertisers are not happy with blood and gut videos ... so we left those scenes out. We also hunted Iguanas in Florida in two videos coming this week and weekend. They were harvested immediately, and are shown in those videos. We also plan to return to Florida during the first quarter of 2023 and do these hunts again... thanks for your interest. Be sure you keep us in your loop of air gun experiences. Dr. Russ

      @@russjones6497 Thank you sir, if the hogs were partly eaten then yeah youtube wouldn't like it. @@lt.lasereyez8891 ... it is good to hear from you again. In most of our 50 states, dogs are not allowed on hunts, other that special hunt dog owners when retrieving a deer etc. that just cant be tracked down by any other method. In fact, many areas ask that you shoot any dogs that you see running through the woods etc, because they often track down animals... kill them ... and only eat a part of them. We have two great dobermans who have great eyes, hearing and smell ... and who have been trained to not bark or bite ... and I would love to have them in a hunt blind with us ... just for those sensitive skills... but again, in most instances, they are not allowed. Fortunately, in over 60 years of hunting, I have been able to track and find everything we have shot ... However, your small dog method ... would work fine here too. • @russjones6497
      @russjones6497 2 года назад +2

      Chaotic twig... good to hear from you ... as Peter says below... clean your gun first since a lot of residue is left after the barreling is complete, and you cant trust them to get it clean. Secondly, after the 100 to 500 shots that fill in the small craters and scratches seen only by a microscope, clean but don't clean with solvents that would remove that leading ... that really has polished the barrel for great accuracy. Clean only to remove any excess lead and dirt. Dr. Russ
