Thanks for the very informative video about the importance of water changes. 👍 Just wanted to say that the nitrogen cycle is as follows: 1. Fish create waste called ammonia (NH3) 2. Nitrosomonas bacteria oxidize ammonia into nitrite (NO2) 3. Nitrobacter bacteria oxidize nitrite into nitrate (NO3). 4. Nitrates are removed by live plants and/or water changes
You should also turn your heater off before draining water, the last thing you want is it cracking or exploding. Just make sure you turn it back on afterwards.
What I do is for every bucket I take out .. i boil the kettle pour it into the cold water. Stir it till it's feel like same temptur as my fish tank and put my watercondition in and pore it in to my fish tank once a week. I have 240 liter so i take out 5 ten liter buckets and if I take out any than 50 liter my water turns cloudy witch means your taking out to much water and losing to much beneficial bacteria and I could go on and on about fish keeping. THANKS
Helloo! I was wondering if I do a 25% water change to a tropical aquirium, would it affect the fish to add cold water to their heated tank? Is there some way in which I can heat the water? Or isn't that necessary?
Yes it would. The water you add needs to match the aquarium temperature otherwise there will be a shift in temp which will stress the fish. In the wild fish don’t experience rapid temp swings due to the large amount of water keeping it stable, the temp rises and drops slowly this can take weeks to months. Fish can’t regulate their body temp so whatever temp the tank is that’s what their body temp is. Also the larger the water change the better as they will get fresh water with more minerals and less of the old water.
Sorry but some people are saying don't change water at all and yes I have live plants. I've added water but certainly not changed it. Just seems a bit over the top 🤷♂️
Also, I have an important question. I am getting a tropical fish tank with a heater. When I do water changes, and fill it with cold tap water, what do I do? Should I put the tap on a little hot, or cold and the heater will sort the water out quickly. This is also with the fish in at the same time. Thanks.
KeepingFishSimple so that would go for honey gourami or guppy’s? (I heard they’re good starter fish.) so the guppy’s will be ok while the heater is heating it up slowly?
KeepingFishSimple thanks for all your help. One final question, I swear lol. At night, am I able to turn the heater and filter off/anything off and the guppy and honey gourami will be fine overnight?
Warm the water with a aquarium heater in the bucket ahead of time or you can try to match your tap water to your tank water as your priming it to put in your tank
Jasmine Caron. I found a quick way to bring cold tap water up to the correct temperature when doing a water change. My tap water is around 60f. and my tank water is about 73f. After measuring out the required amount in a bucket, I fill a plastic water bottle with hot water, seal it and put it in the bucket. Saves lots of time.
@@Jasmine-hx6hk Hope it helps Jasmine. Being new to fish keeping I found it to be a pain waiting for a bucket of cold water to get warmer. This method cuts hours off.

Lol he said it the wrong way round. Wouldn’t take any advise from him. New comers beware
Phil Margolies thank you for that!!!! I love that I can screenshot that for a quick guide
INFINIITY what’s the right way lol
Nikki Mae the guy in the video said it the wrong way round the right way is what the guy in the comment posted
INFINIITY ok thank you I thought so but had to make sure haha
* Fish poop turns into ammonia, which turns into nitrites, and then finally into nitrates.

Thank you I have a water change and cleaning tomorrow morning wish me luck 🙏🏻🤞🏼☑️
So water change everyday is ok? Thats great to hear. I actually love maintaining my aquarium. Makes the water very clear.
Everyday!?
Why bother keeping fish?
Ridiculous!
Good video. One thing though, you should recommend people to turn off all electrical devices before doing anything to the tank.
Thank you, this video was really helpful 🙏🏻
Since you added cold water from the tap, didn't the aquarium temp plummet?
I’m also wondering about the temp
Really surprised after hearing you!!!! I need it for my guppy fries
How do you do add the chemical when the fish are in it if you were using a hose that leads to the tank
Oh man, this is so easy and helpful! How big is that fish tank ? I have an 80 litre one. Thanks a lot!
His video was super helpfull
Thanks for your help
You helped me so much! Thank you very much!

It's like a baby caterpillar chasing it's momma
I've got a live planted aquerium haven't changed the water in months everything is still alive

Awsome video

Shouldn’t matter as long as he water isn’t freezing

Yea both go awesome and are easy

I’m not sure how to clean my tropical fish tank as the water needs to be warm
Warm the water with a aquarium heater in the bucket ahead of time or you can try to match your tap water to your tank water as your priming it to put in your tank
"when the fish.. uh, make waste..."
Hey do you remember you used to record a vid with a tablet or iPad
Yep! Wasn’t even long ago
Well done lad ;-)
Your fishes eat sand?
Hope my tanks can look like yours one day.
Did you match the temperature?
Didn’t need to with my fish, they are so hardy, if you have sensitive species I would match it.
How come there aren’t people changing the water in the ocean
Blessing Karbah that’s a good question 🤔, we need answers Yoooo!!!!!
Because God set it up right in the beginning.
Because the ocean got a constant movement and many living organism to filtrate the water, micro organism to eat the wast ect just make your research
Blessing Karbah when it rains new water is added and also the plants and other organisms keep the water in good condition.
Is this a joke?
Bahahahaha the suck method. Make sure you dont swallow. Cause if you swallow to much you become salty.
fish waste is not turned into nitrate,,it starts as amonia, then to nitrite ,then nitrate, not the way you said,
Am I the only one who thought we have to change all the water? XD
once a week waterchage is so overkill
What do you mean
Fish make nitrates who would have known!
It's Nitrites to Nitrates though.
I dont think its ok to change water every day 🥲
I change about 15% every second day.

michael yates why don’t you just mix warm water with the cold water until you get the right temp
Change water every week is not good for the eco system
Oh boy...if your reading this find another video
What?u suggesting everyday change the water? Omg
m8 thank u didnt no u could do water changes everyday
Hahahaja dude said every day -.-
every day ??ahahhahahhaa "))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
