  • Obliques are the muscles on the sides of your torso that connect your abs to your back. Many people work abs and some work lower back, but very few work obliques specifically. If you have strong abs, and maybe a strong lower back, but weak obliques, it can cause problems - pain, injury, disfunction. The obliques are major actors in twisting movements and side bending. If you play a sport where twisting is a major part of it - golf, tennis, racquet sports, baseball, pitching especially, volleyball, football QB - you really want to have strong obliques.
