@@lloydkline6946 Absolutely agree. There's class, sportsmanship, and a LACK of showboating that sets it apart from the mid 80s onward, esp the last couple of decades. I'm continually amazed by how many players here score TDs, yet just flip the ball to the ref, even on spectacular plays.
Harry Kalas had the unenviable job of replacing the legendary John Facenda, but held his own and would in turn become a fantastic narrator for the NFL.
Just a note, James Harris was starting for SD because Fouts was holding out, something that just wasn't done back then. He was holding out because he hated Tom Prothero and was seeking a trade. His appeal was denied and he came back. Prothero was fired after the season and the Chargers hired Don Coryell and the rest is history.
I wish Denver had acquired James Harris. Morton was a godsend for The Broncos, but Harris was younger than him and probably more mobile , but what I really wish is that Denver had acquired Terry Bradshaw in 1974 after he was demoted by The Steelers. P.S. I remember when the Chargers hired Coryell. They were a different team under him.
Nice unis of the day: that Midnight Blue and Goldenrod San Diego uniform, 49ers are always classic, now with a wider white stripe on the pants. Browns in orange. The game had a genuiness to it then. The stadiums weren't fancy, and the fans proved they need not be, turning out in all types of conditions for the good teams.
I grew up in the 70s and I’m grateful. In my opinion, the game has changed dramatically for the worst. Now it’s all about mud-less jerseys, excessive showboating, inflated contracts and egos, and endless commercials. I know things change, I get it. But I’ll take this era over today’s any day. Can’t and won’t watch the nfl now
He was AMAZING, even running 50-60 yards the other way to tackle #57 on his interception for a TD. Also, I'm continually astounded by how he was able to stay on his feet after being hit, bumped, pushed, and mis-tackled. He was/is truly the GOAT.
Normally I don't like music with horns much, but-you're right-it's PERFECT here, and I find myself humming some of these riffs/melodies from time to time, usually at work.
Jets definitely bringing in some great talent, at this point - Stan Blinka, Joe Klecko, Jerome Barkum, Wesley Walker, Richard Todd. These guys would make them a great team that others had to get past, in order to win a title.
The Saints were so erratic this season. Their wins were against good Rams, Bears, and Falcons teams, but they lost to bad Jets, Buccaneers, and Packers teams.
Just goes to show how much of a cycle the league is. In those days the Saints were so bad fans would put bags over their heads with Aints written on them. Today the Saints are annual contenders.
@@jstube36 untrue. The Aints and the paper bags didn't come to be until the 1980 season when they lost 14 in a row. But the '77 Saints were horrible as well going 3-11(this was the final 14 game season for the NFL). So they losing to the Bucs wasn't such a shocker in that the Saints were terrible as well. Now the Bucs beating the Cards? That was a shocker.
I know them well. I was born in Minneapolis 1969. Started watching the NFL/Vikings at about 5/6years old. Alan Page was my favorite. I think it's a shame that Jim Marshall is not in the HOF. We lived about 10-15 minutes from the Old Met in Bloomington. Still the best "Football" field ever. It was a unique stadium. As perhaps the only one where both teams shared the same sidelines. @0:28 This WAS The NFL In todays "NFL" players dont even wear shoulder pads let alone tackle. I love these videos. Real Football
And they actually PLAYED in bad weather in the Fall and Winter!!
Love this channel. I wouldn't miss this show. Love the hustle Walter Payton showed trying to run down that Saints linebacker on the pick 6!
screw him
The music of NFL Films is the best.
I was at the Chargers vs Bengals game. 16 years old at the time. Man, how time goes by. ☺
I remember watching that Colts vs. Bills game, eating my Grandma's homemade spaghetti. Man she made the Best Spaghetti Sauce. ... I Miss Her So Much..

I miss the Baltimore Colts.
I miss my mother`s home-made spaghetti sauce; she 'cooked-from-scratch'. Thanks for that memory, bonanzatime.
I miss the Houston Oilers and Saint Louis Football Cardinals
❤️ / miss my late mother cooking 🍳; great 🏠 house keeper etc etc
I miss old school NFL programing!!!!!
Love the CBS pregame NFL football show; love this broadcast voice legendary

Memories of Saturday afternoons as a kid in pomona ca
Except NFL games were on Sunday and Monday.
Ed Sabol was asked how he got such great shots in slow motion. He replied. "It's ALL shot in slo-mo." (haha)
Rams and Chargers near identical uniforms!🏈
Terrific Jets win over the Patriots, probably their second best in the 70's. (First being 1978 at Denver).

Dave logan had a knack for making some spectacular catches !!
At 6'7", with great hands, he could make catches that were beyond others, except somebody like Harold Carmichael (who was/is 6'8").
He made a living off of Pittsburgh
RIP Walter Payton. 🙏

That was Walter Payton song. 👍👍👍👍

Stingley before Tatum
I remember this Oiler game, one of the first football games I watched. 21-0 after 3 possessions... oof!
The music is so fitting.

The Lions unis were great then
First year the 49ers were wearing their Super Bowl uniforms that they wore for about 15 years.
Jets definitely bringing in some great talent, at this point - Stan Blinka, Joe Klecko, Jerome Barkum, Wesley Walker, Richard Todd. These guys would make them a great team that others had to get past, in order to win a title.
They still never won a SB with those players (but they were fun to watch).
6:00 Iconic highlight from Jack Lambert!
Tall and lanky, but one mean dude who epitomized the Middle Linebacker Position. 😠
I believe he was saying “That oughta cool your ass down!”
It was that long ago -- all those low fives...before the Dodgers invented the high five.
John Riggins was not yet known as " The Diesel " in those days
Tampa Bay held the Cowboys to " only " 23 points that could have been a sign of a much better defense in their 2nd season
I didn't like it when the Chargers started wearing white at home the next year ( 1978) those royal blue 💙 jerseys were great
Chargers: Dan Fouts held out this year except for the last 4 games
He was on his way out of the NFL. San Diego would hire Don Coryell the next season

Tommy Thomason those were dunguard face masks lightweight aluminum with a rubber coating not plastic.

Broncos and Dolphins too, a few years before.
