I can explain the Mai thing. See, Mai’s provocative design is a legit canon element of her character, it gets stated in multiple SNK games that she dresses the way she does on purpose because she knows it distracts her opponents. So if you were to censor her the same way they did Pyra and Mythra it would defeat the entire purpose of that, Sakurai most likely knows that since he’s a fan of SNK’s fighting games himself and so for him in order to keep the E10+ rating it was either put Mai in the game as a spirit or background character with a censored outfit that goes against the point of her design in-universe, or avoid that problem entirely and don’t include her at all. Also there’s one thing I would like to add to this for fun. Joker’s gun shouldn’t work on Snake, Joker’s gun only works of the opponent he’s shooting at perceives it as a gun but it’s not real and so the reason it wouldn’t work on Snake is because Snake is extremely gun-savvy to the point where he would be able to just see that someone pointing a firearm at him did not take the safety off, if he’s able to that he’d 100% be able to tell that Joker’s gun is fake and so he would be immune to it completely.
Counter-Point to the Snake thing. Snake is dealing with tons of a fantastical nature, including what is basically a Super Soaker from Inkling. Even if Snake would recognize it as simply an Airsoft Gun, he would probably assume it still packs a punch due to Joker's other magical abilities.
Joker's knives honestly might not work either. Joker: Snake: I see right through everything, kid. Your face, your stance, this is all a game to you. Don't be so quick to throw away your innocence to play soldier. The shackles you see aren't the only ones, the shackles binding you to break shackles are there too. You can follow those shackles endlessly, and never be free of the ones just above you. Freedom is an illusion, kid. The only freedom is disillusion, and you're too young for that. Go play with your friends. Arsene: I'm out.
Her KoF XIV render is fairly tame tho. Why not just use that as the basis for a Spirit? There are some Spirits in the game that show as much or more skin than that (e.g. vanilla Pyra, Ouendan Cheerleaders).
On that point about Joker and the gun, would that mean characters like Olimar, Pokémon, or the Fire Emblem characters also be immune since they have no concept of what a gun is?
16:34 This one's really weird. Like, they could have mentioned how Blazing End leaves you able to move but unable to attack until it returns, which is a way more worthwhile mechanic to mention.
They get more and more complex in their descriptions each game, especially ultimate. lots of special moves now have multiple names, like why are hero's specials called frizz, frizzle and kazfrizzle and not just frizz? Robins neutral special is called thunder, if he was made in ultimate itdbbe called thunder/arcthunder/elthunder/thoron
@@JJLarge those are REAL names from the games, it’s not something stupid that they exclusively invented for ultimate, if this is what you mean to say, it’s a stronger version of the same move but that was enough reason that both Fire Emblem and Dragon quest did when they came out and no one ever complained or even talked about it, sorry I had to nerd out in this comment but its better to fully understand the source than to immediately blame the crossover.
I think they just though Pyra's FSmash is crazy enough to deserve being there, and as much as I hate admit it. Sometimes it looks like a special mechanic in its own. The move consistently can kill at 40%, ive seen it kill Pichu at 20 with DI. So i guess it's so absurd and cheater they just gave it a special mention to make sure new players know about it and "have fun" with it

Actually, Larry being youngest and Ludwig being the oldest are the only canonical facts about the age order. Morton and Roy have been hinted at being some of the older Koopalings a few times, but nothing about the age order of any Koopaling other than Larry and Ludwig have been confirmed. Also don't feel bad @@Sp3ctralI , I used to think that as well.
@@Blue_Boy_Official How would Lemmy be old is my question, acts fairly child-like same with Iggy who would probably be middle child rather than younger, cuz he’s more crazy than Lemmy.
@@Sp3ctralI I don't know, but Morton and Roy are very likely 2nd and 3rd oldest Koopalings respectively, and here's why: -Morton is mentioned to be 'one of the older Koopalings', but this might just be to hammer in the fact that he's older than Larry -Roy says 'Little Brothers are so cowardly!' Which could have either been directed at Iggy or Luigi, the latter of which was angered -Roy is mentioned to be 'A little heavier than his younger siblings'. Even though Ludwig is lighter, Ludwig is the oldest. There is only one Koopaling heavier than Roy, which is Morton. If I am correct about Morton and Roy, that would only leave Iggy, Lemmy, and Wendy to figure out the placements of. That part is for you to make your own headcanon on. My personal headcanon is that Wendy is the middle child, with Iggy being the older twin of Lemmy. My evidence for Iggy and Lemmy being twins is that they used to look almost identical, which may mean that Iggy dyed and styled his hair to differentiate himself. Still no answer for why the glasses are there. TL;DR: Morton and Roy are likely the 2nd and 3rd oldest respectively, I headcanon Wendy to be the middle child and for Iggy to be Lemmy's older twin.

@@WeebGamer101 well it’s because to keep the Japanese cero rating A which translates for all ages and apparently the if games have a few panty revealing then it would risk the increase in cero rating.
Mai is just as big as Terry in terms of popularity and recognition so Sakurai didn't want to cough up more hush money for SNK. Probably not true at all but this is what I think
Sakurai: "we didn't make Isabelle an echo because her height and personality are different than Villager's" Daisy: has different height and personality than Peach's *visible confusion*
The reveal for Daisy literally stated that she'd have different characteristics and her moves would behave differently. Well that was a big fat lie, unless something was lost in translation. I hate that she's the exact same as Peach in Smash (minus the height, as if it matters). It's such a disservice.
@@k-leb4671 I think the differences they implied was the flower at the end of some of her moves, the orange ribbon of her up smash, blue Toad to name a few there at least two or three more things I could say, but I would have loved Daisy use things from the party games much as what I would like to see in an eventual Waluigi’s kit
@@AshenDemon Whaaat?? Can't remember, I comment a lot (Checked my nots again, saw it was the Ceave gaming video) But to answer the question How?: Maybe something related to Mario Airships for example
I thought it was a missed opportunity that Steve doesn't die like in his own game. Turning red, falling on the side, and disappearing into smoke. I thought this would be a great death animation for stamina mode.
There's several death animations for stamina mode (or instant KOs) that the developers could've used. Mario's stands out, although I guess he does die fairly normally in the 3D games (as opposed to making that famous pose and falling off the screen in the 2D games) so it makes sense in Smash I guess.
Another thing that bugs me about volt tackle is that not only does it NOT look like it does in the games, it DOES look *EXACTLY* like Zekrom's sig move Fusion Bolt
12:44 Lore Wise, it is at least feasible that Kirby could hold the Monado, considering Dunban was able to effectively wield it himself, albeit crippling his arm from extended use. Kirby, one of the most powerful beings in the game, would likely have little trouble using it. Without getting too spoilery as well, the Monado's capabilities can be emulated with enough technical know how in the canon of the game, though with less offensive power. Kirby's "replica" of the Monado can't be used to attack directly, but does provide him with it's Arts. The Keyblade works under much more strict rules than the Monado. Non-wielders can't wield it at all, while the Monado can at least feasibly be picked up by anyone (with mixed results).
Canonically, the 4 playable Dragon Quest heroes can’t learn the whack family of spells. Hero III and Hero IV can’t learn Gigaslash For some reason psych up in the taunt uses purple aura which is used in DQ 8 but using the move in the down b the aura is red which doesn’t happen They spoiled MAJOR characters from DQ 11 even they were promoting DQ11 S on Switch many times so why?! There are more things that doesn’t make any sense for Hero but I’ll stop love the vid btw

Another codec related one: Ike's codec won't activate in his Radiant Dawn costumes, even though its the same guy (its probably because Ike only had his Path of Radiance look in Brawl).
6:28 the ranks of the Spirits aren’t just to rank the characters but the buffs they provide you when equipped in-battle, so Giga Cat Mario not providing a buff as powerful as Golf Mario’s explains the discrepancy.
@@INFERNO95 This. Sakurai also took considerable influence from Zelda 2 when designing Smash Link in general; while Smash 64 and Melee Link may have looked like Ocarina of Time Link, they were Zelda 2 Link in spirit.
Maybe SNK didn’t want them to make any changes to Mai? We’ve seen third parties can be pretty stingy with a character’s appearance (Sonic, Pac-Man, Cloud…). Though I believe she also has other official looks that are less sexual, but maybe they wanted all characters to have their visuals from the same game? EDIT: Also IIRC Dragon Quest was the first ever video game to incorporate random critical hits
Mai's KoF XIV render is actually fairly tame (the Ouendan Cheerleaders show just as much skin in their Spirit), and there's always her FF3/Real Bout 1 outfit.
It could be a meta reference as the Japanese name for Magikoopas are "Kamek" and first appeared in Super Mario World and the art used for "Kamek" in Smash Ultimate was originally was art for the Magikoopas in Super Mario 3D World but edited to remove the magic effects in front of the wand. Much like how the trophy for Kamek depicts him as a general Magikoopa and puts his trophy in with the rest of the Mario series while the trophy box in Smash 4 (Wii U) puts it with the rest of the Yoshi trophies. Although it could also reference the fact Kamek himself appears in a *Mario* stage (Mushroom Kingdom U, stage hazard) and is usually seen in the *Mario* series given the fact Yoshis first appeared in Super Mario World alongside Magikoopas (Kameks).
Yeah I don't think Kamek is really considered his own character in Japan, seeing as all Magikoopas are called Kamek. I guess that's why he's considered a Super Mario character because in Japan, he/they debuted in Super Mario World.
I'm still confused on why Ness does not have PK Rockin' in smash. I personally think that his basic PSI moves could be changed to have PK Rockin' effects but I guess I have to use mods for that. Also Lucas' basic PSI moves look close enough to PK love that I think it's fine.
I think it's because PK Rockin and PK Love can have different names depending on what the player inputs as their "favorite thing," so Smash chose instead to use a powerful move that has the same name every playthrough.
@@TheOneGuy1111 I know however just like Ness and Lucas' names it's the default for the "I don't care" option so it would make sense for them to use PK Rockin' and PK Love.
You know what’s crazier? Characters that are not playable have had their theme songs since freaking Brawl I’ll list a few. Ashley’s Song Warioware Waluigi Pinball Midna’s Lament Lip’s Theme Panel De Pon Brawl even had Famicom Medleys which had Duck Hunt and Punch Out Music before the characters from those games became playable, as well as K. Rool’s Ship Deck. Heck I want Galacta Knight’s Theme and Rundas’ Theme.
For #2 it’s literally because mai is supposed to be a fighter who uses distractions as an advantage and including her in censored would defeat the purpose pyra and mythra aren’t that bad in terms of their design
Except she's not hear to fight. Besides, that wouldn't be the first time something was altered that didn't make sense when it comes to censoring characters. Like removing the skinship minigame in Fates while the one in PKMN was still allowed despite the places you could rub certain Pokemon. Or in the same game, censoring certain lewd things, but still allowing Raider weapons and one of the characters' unique skills to clothes break enemies they hit.
Pyra always looked really revealing to me, almost as much as Mai. The dark synthetic-looking patch on her tummy and breasts might as well not be there. It's like she only has body paint.
I think they just didn't want to change a Design from a 3rd party, that seems work to do and can generate problems. Nintendo characters are easier to just cover up if needed I guess
The reason why Dr. Mario isn’t considered an eco fighter is because he different stats and liberties from regular Mario (Dr. Mario is slower & more powerful, his up B works completely different from Mario’s, his down smash has different liberties when it comes to knock back, his down air is completely different from Mario’s, his back throw is different from Mario’s, his forward air doesn’t spike, his up smash brings the opponent a completely different direction, his side B works differently in the air, his forward smash inflicts electric damage, his neutral B doesn’t inflict fire damage, and his down B is completely different from Mario’s)
Also, he said that dr mario first appeared in smash 4, wich isn't true. Dr mario first appeared in melee (for the smash games), wich that he doesn't know anything about him.
I usually don't like female characters being censored because it's just clothes and skin, nothing wrong with some skin, especially characters in fighting games. It's funny because Palutana, Bayonetta and Zero Suit Samus had close ups on their bodies in their reveals.
16:44 Pyra’s side smash is actually kinda special. It has HIGH launch power, and with the additional fire damage it has with it, it can be a devastating attack
16:35 Ok, thank god I wasn’t the only one that found this weird. Just about everyone else that has a “special description” makes sense to me to further explain, but explaining Pyra’s side smash when there’s no real unique mechanic behind it doesn’t feel right.
You are the first person who I've heard dislikes pyra and mythra censorship. Before mythra was even revealed in smash, she was given the censored outfit in Xenoblade 2 and people loved it
15:00 How to tell everyone you've never played Super Mario World without saying you haven't played Super Mario World. The first world in that game is called _YOSHI'S ISLAND_ that's the reference.
To explain Chrom still being in the Final Smash. Fire Emblem Awakening (the game Robin and Chrom are from) features two timelines, and it's made clear that the Robins and Chroms from one timeline can interact with the other, so maybe the playable Chrom is from one timeline and the one with Robin is from another.
About the Mai thing. They probably didn't want to change the design of a 3rd party characters just for that. Changing these things seems like work, and risking somehow going against the other company vision for their characters. But changing Pyra/Mythra is just easier in general since their image and identity are Nintendo's to freely use
Mai could've at least been a Spirit using her KoF XIV render (which is rather tame, about the same as the Ouendan Cheerleaders spirit). Or put her on the stage in her outfit from FF3/Real Bout 1.
6:20 i think that's proabably because there a multiple mario circuit themes and 2 versions of cloudtop (since it was originally on the GBA, so its saying its the MK8 version) and for excitebike (well of course it debut in mario kart 8) the other ones are the only ones of it's kind
Why tf is Robin slow, he is also extremely fast and depending on various factors he can be faster than Lucina, Chrom, Roy, Ike and Marth, yes, all of them, all of them are present in Awakening
IMO the vast majority of these can be explained with either: 1. mechanical balancing 2. aesthetic choices Most of the things he mentioned aren't at all bad from a game design perspective. Obviously there's a few things like Snake's codec calls and Palutena's guidance were definitely mistakes, but most of the others were fine. Also, was he seriously trying to imply that Pyra's forward smash getting its own page on the move list was to help sell the character? That's a pretty ridiculous statement on its own, without even factoring in how you can't even see that screen unless you've already purchased the character.
Along the same lines as Holy Water only bursting in contact with evil forces, how about a more aggregious example that doesn't just apply to a singling move but an entire character? Shulk's Monado is specifically stated to not be able to harm people; there was even an early cutscene that showed Reiyn losing control of the sword and it attacking wildly until it bounces off of Fiora. I'm not going to bother tallying the roster, but I don't think its much of an exaggeration to say that at least half the roster is of a race that is at least close enough to human that the Monado shouldn't affect them. Now [minor spoilers for Xenoblade Chronicles] there is a point in the game where the Monado gets upgraded to what I think is called the Double Edged variant where it can now harm anything that it strikes in order to get around an enemy force that created a special kind of unit that isn't affected by the Monado, but this very clearly is not that variant; this is the base form of the Monado from when Shulk first started fighting with it, just a little further down the line to account for the use of Shield and Speed Arts which need to be unlocked through story progression. The best I can think to justify this is that they may have been specifically referring to Homs when talking about the people that can't be harmed by the Monado, which is the race of human-like creatures that Shulk is part of. And since I never played Xenoblade Chronicles 2 since I'm no longer able to tolerate the combat system of Xenoblade, for all I know Pyra and Mythra could be exempt from being considered Hom, as do the rest of the human characters in Smash Bros.
Just to bring something up, When Villager was shown in the trailer to join smash 4, Isabelle can be seen in the background of the trailer. Isabelle was not a character in Wild World so it is safe to assume that the Villager is actually based on the game New Leaf. Even if the design looks like Wild World, it is still safe to assume he was the "Mayor" of the town if he inhabited the same village as Isabelle.
From what I've seen, the reason they didn't censor Mai is because, well, her outfit is iconic. It's been constant though the years and the multiple games she's been in. It would make no sense to suddenly change it, compared to Pyra and Mythra, who had only been in one game.
Yeah, plus obviously Mai isn't Sakurai's or Nintendo's character and SNK wouldn't be in board for changes on the character. It's pretty much up to the third party company.
@@Xenshi. If I remember correctly, Sakurai's snark about CERO was in reference to needing to add the void beneath the dresses and skirts of the female fighters, even ones with side gaps that let you see above the void anyways, or that have something beneath the dress less revealing than the void.
5:45 That's actually a surprisingly realistic theory. The Pokemon main game canon has a vast multiverse, that is basically split in to three variations: The Gameboy Era, The GBA/DS Era, and the 3DS/Switch era. This is directly referenced with Looker's Cameo in ORAS, Anabel's appearance in Gen 7, and a certain character's appearance in Legend's Arceus. The Fairy type was not introduced until Gen 6, the start of the 3DS/Switch Multiverse. This Jigglypuff is most likely from the Gameboy Era Universe due to originating from Smash 64. This means Smash Jigglypuff is likely still only a Normal Type. The Male Pikachu (theorized to be Melee's Pichu and child of the original Pikcahu) is also most likely from there, which could explain the inconsistency with Volt Tackle. Volt Tackle wasn't seen until Gen 3, the start of the GBA/DS Multiverse, so maybe Volt Tackle functions completely differently where Pikachu came from. Female Pikachu is likely from the 3DS/Switch era due to being Pikachu Libre, and likely learned Volt Tackle from the other Pikachu. If Pichu is their child, of course he would know it as well. As for the other Smash Pokemon, the Pokemon Trainer's and their Pokemon are from the GBA/DS Era being based on Fire Red/Leaf Green. Charizard may be the exception, capable of Mega Evolution, introduced Gen 6, making him a 3DS/Switch resident. This applies to Lucario and MewTwo as well. Greninja and Incineroar are most likely the 3DS/Switch era as well due to solely existing there, though it may be possible Greninja is from the Anime Universe due to having the Ash Greninja form. TL;DR Pokemon has a insane multiverse.
Pyra and Mythra censorship was possible because they're 1st party. If they did that to Mai it'd change too much of her design and I doubt SNK was on board on that. Idk why folks don't get that "But what about Bayonetta" *oh you mean the character who didn't really get significant redesigns and only gets covered up only in specific moments (aka moments where she'd go nude in the original game)?*
During the presentation for steve he clarified that only certain stages will give you certain material and the rest would be randomized with what was given
The Problem with Snake Codex was the Fact, that the Voice Actor of the Colonel Passed away Long before Ultimate. And They didn't wanted to replace, neither Change the Codex in Turn of Respect towards him. Also They Decide to Work on Palutena Guidance anyway, since Kid Icarus Uprising is a project Made by Sakurai.
The Japanese voice actor specifically. The English actor (the more well-known one worldwide) was alive and well, but the developers are Japanese and they didn't want to disrespect the voice actor they knew and loved.
@@jdysbsunsbsg Lemme stop you right there, Bayonetta has both of her designs completely untouched, the censorship only comes when she uses her hair for attacks, that would leave her naked in the original game, obviously you're not gonna do that in Smash. Byleth in smash is a wildly inaccurate fighter compared to three houses. In three houses you only get the hero’s relics (Amyr, Failnought and Aheradbhar) after a special point in the game. This special point is also after another specific point where Byleths hair changes (from blue to green and that’s where the alts come from). You can’t even have Byleth use all 3 relics in one route of the 4 routes in three houses. The most you can do is in the blue lions route where you can have Byleth use Aheradbhar and Failnought after a little while in the story. Shulk also has a similar issue. Basically the whole chain attack set up and also if (spoiler new addition to the smash ultimate final smash) then that means Shulk is using the wrong form of the monado. (The monados shape changes throughout the story)
The dragon in the background of the Kalos League isn't actually a Pokémon, but a huge sculpture. That means the "move" it uses probably isn't Dragon type. I remember seeing it in Smash and thinking it was some epic dragon lord Pokémon or something. Fast forward to when I got X and it was disappointing when I discovered it wasn't actually a Pokémon.

I agree. It literally lines up with his rationale from the beginning of the video as a change that made for balance and functionality, so I don’t see how it’s something valid to bitch about
12:44 Huge spoilers for xenoblade 1/DE There isn't really anything that prevents kirby from using the Monado. Dunban is shown to use it in the Prologue although not as well as shulk does. You could also say that kirby is possesed by zanza which would allow him to wield it. Or it could just be a replica monado that looks very similar to the original, which anyone could use.

As a mh fan I’d like to chime in: The theme referred to as ‘Rathalos’s Theme’ in smash ultimate is actually a generic battle theme for Verdant Hills (ie a song that plays for every monster that doesn’t have its own theme song, such as Rathalos). The stage you fight Rathalos on in SSBU is Ancestral Steppe, which has an entirely different, and imo, better generic battle theme.

11:30 it's technically not breaking any rules here, it's just that you're looking at the wrong rules. the recoil damage isn't meant to be accurate to the GAME's recoil from Volt Tackle specifically, it's meant to be accurate to one of the Pokemon Movies, where Pichu hurts itself every time it uses electric moves. In the anime, while moves exist, battling in general is a lot more freeform and generalized rather than following the game's rules with specific moves and effects. Even though moves like skull bash aren't electric type, a Pichu in the anime can absolutely use a skull bash (or similar move) and imbue the attack with lightning, just as he does in smash, and anytime he uses that lightning, he hurts himself. Volt Tackle also doesn't really do recoil in the anime so you could easily argue that all the Pokemon in smash are from the anime rather than the game, which would explain a lot, including lack of immunities since those aren't really talked about/shown in the anime. In fact, there's an episode where Pikachu kills a Rhydon (an earth type) with Thunderbolt by simply "aiming for the horn" As for the Up Taunt not dealing damage to itself, there's a practical purpose, in that there's no way that would be useful. Sure there's plenty of Taunts that deal damage, have hitboxes, or even have belly armor for some reason. But there's no taunts that damage you and do nothing else, because there's no purpose in the developers making a taunt NO ONE ever wants to use, so naturally they decided to remove that.
A taunt that dealt damage to yourself would actually be situationally useful on any character EXCEPT Pichu or the Links. If you ever watch Link vs Luigi competitive matches, the Link almost always self bombs on purpose to get out of combo %. Luigi is the polarizing case, but a lot of characters with very specific set up % windows could be counter played by a self damage taunt.
The reason Young Link and Pichu aren’t echo fighters is because there proportions are too different from the original fighter, and my guess for Dr. Mario not being an echo fighter is that all of his moves have different values from Mario.
Then you have Ken. He's got a lot of differences compared to Ryu, such as being faster, his Shoryu and Tatsu having wildly different properties, several different normals with different properties AND has his own unique command input.
@@LloydTheZephyrian The difference is that Ken and Ryu still share a majority of their moves and values, while with Dr. Mario and Mario have completely different values on all of their moves.

(3:00) I don't even get why Pyra and Myhra are censored. Cleavage for Mythra, makes sense. But you have ZSS in very revealing clothing, you have Palutena with a side-slit dress, and if you want to count it, Isabelle is kinda wearing a very tiny skirt. So what is wrong with Pyra and Mythra showing some legs too? Especially since the spirit for Pyra isn't censored.
Yeah there are a lot of mistakes. Like Sora, piranha plant, some characters don't have their canon sizes, the fact that Waluigi still isn't in the game, no obstacle course mode and more
I feel like Corrin using the Omega Yato being acknowledged (by their siblings saying "the Yato has taken on a new form or something") in their reveal trailer was worth a mention
One MAJOR problem I have with Ultimate is not just the exclusion of the PAC-MAZE stage, but the reason WHY it was excluded. Apparently, its power pellet gimmick required multiple screens because ghosts would turn blue on one screen but not the others. This made me furious because it is not canon to the Pac-Man series. In actual multiplayer Pac-Man games like Pac-Man Battle Royale, when one player eats a power pellet, the ghosts turn blue for ALL players, NOT just one. This allows ALL players to eat the ghosts regardless of who originally ate the power pellet. So not only is it bad enough that Smash for Wii U and Smash Ultimate didn’t get the PAC-MAZE stage because Nintendo said it would’ve been “inaccurate” to add the stage without the mechanic, but the reason for its exclusion in BOTH games is completely INVALID!! It is missing based off of Nintendo’s incorrect canonical basis. You’d think they’d know what’s canon and what’s not because Namco is HELPING THEM make the game! When a player ate a power pellet, ghosts should’ve turned blue on ALL screens for ALL players like it already does in official multiplayer Pac-Man games. Therefore, PAC-MAZE should’ve been included in Smash Ultimate AND Smash for Wii U from the very beginning! The stage should’ve been added to ALL games as soon as Pac-Man made his debut in 2014. We have two Sonic stages, why not two Pac-Man stages? Honestly people wouldn’t mind the PAC-LAND stage nearly as much if PAC-MAZE coexisted alongside it. That way, people have a choice of what Pac-Man stage to play on. Especially since Pac-Man’s moveset is based off BOTH games. People HATE PAC-LAND not just because it’s jank and hard to play on, but also because it’s THE Pac-Man stage in Ultimate. It’s THE stage to represent the entire series, leaving NO choice for players. On top of that, most of Pac-Man’s representation comes from the PAC-MAZE stage: the music, the pellets, the ghosts, and the sound effects. The only glimpses we see of Pac-Man’s original arcade game and the PAC-MAZE stage are in his moveset, like his pellet chase or his ghost smash attacks. Yeah, Rainbow Road should’ve returned as well, but at least Rosalina has another stage to represent her. Pac-Man has literally NOTHING for a home stage, which is a shame because he’s such a huge character and Namco themselves are working on the game. A HUGE slap in the face for Namco. Out of ALL the 3DS stages that came back, the only two stages they decided to abandon were the two BIGGEST fan favorites! All because Nintendo couldn’t be bothered with a very simple adjustment to the stage. This is why Pac-Man (and Sonic) have the WORST representation in Smash Ultimate. As a Pac-Main, I’m extremely triggered. Thankfully, Smash Flash 2 has the PAC-MAZE stage, albeit with some minor differences. Smash Ultimate as a whole is a fantastic game and I’ve never seen anything like it, but MAN it’s littered with issues due to many questionable decisions by Nintendo.
I'm late and this is gonna be a book so beware, but I feel the reason why Mai wasnt added is because all the kof characters in the stage do both they're ideal animation and victory pose. Mai's ideal pose is her hunched over with her breasts swaying in the wind, which I'm sure would've been upsetting for parents lol. Also four things in ultimate that make no sense to are: Ryu and Ken both have the focus attack, but lack the ability to do an FADC(basically it's when you do a input and press the focus button, allowing you to cancel it. If done fast, you are able to cancel out of said attack with a dash, hence the name "focus attack dash cancel"). None of the dlc have palutena's guidances, and they never gave snake updated codex They got rid of the victory pose for Sheik where she does the iconic sheikah thing, where they hold a finger under they're lip and look away inquisitively. Lucina has an interaction with Marth(she says the same to Roy since they are the same person. Roy was in a reboot of the original fire emblem, do that technically makes him Marth),Ike, and Robin, but they never added one for her own father in ultimate. Same goes for Cloud and Sephiroth. I'm sure it wouldn't have been that hard to add a few extra lines, especially with patches
I can provide insight into Snake's Codec calls. The Japanese VA for the Colonel is dead. They were able to update Link's Codec entry by just clipping out "and his hookshot", but anything more than that isn't doable anymore.
@@aprinnyonbreak1290 yeah, sadly. Which is a shame too because I'd love to hear all the codex we missed out on in sm4sh but oh well. Hope he rests in peace
5:18 the speed stat in pokemon is also seen more as attack speed, since mons that are canonically very fast sometimes have lower speed than a literal cow
As someone who enjoyed the first Xenoblade, I despised the female character designs in 2. In comparison I think they did a great job at redesigning them for Ultimate, keeping them visualy similar to their original game while getting rid of the unnecessary sexualization. But yeah, I know this will be an eternal debate where both sides have already exposed every possible arguments, so why bother...
The thing with Neds and lucas' moves, in number3, primarily ness is that rhe trophy's confirmed that th4 other party memeb3rs taught them their psi moves for smash (it even says so on Paula's melee trophy) its canon to smash, and since many earthbound devs work in smash now...i'd say they know better than us
Smash Ultimate Things That Make NO Sense (Kirby Version): Why don't we have more music from the Modern Kirby games but we do have another remix of Green Greens and Gourmet Race? 1) Why don't we have the original theme for Masked Dedede and Galacta Knight (if they both come from Kirby Super Star Ultra: Sakurai's darling)? 2) Why is Dark Meta Knight not an Echo Fighter, but Dark Samus and Dark Pit are Echo Fighters? 3) Speaking of Dark Meta Knight. Why don't we have his original battle theme (Kirby & The Amazing Mirror)? 4) Why do we have Moonstruck Blossom and The World to Win (Queen Sectonia themes), but not Sullied Grace? 5) Why don't we have Assistant Trophies for characters from Modern Kirby games? 6) Why do we have Queen Sectonia as a Spirit, but not Taranza (Magolor and Susie have their own Spirits)? 7) Why does Sakurai say that he doesn't want to spoil his son (Kirby) too much in Smash, but ignores all the Kirby games that he didn't direct (Modern Kirby Games)?
2: To be fair, Dark Pit and Dark Samus are their own characters in a sense. Dark Meta Knight might've gotten some more abilities in TD and SA, but OG DMK disguised himself as Meta Knight for a boss fight, and the fight with his revealed form was just the same fight but a bit harder. He's nowhere near the level of the other two Dark Counterparts. 7: When did he say that? Because that itself is a lie, as Kirby got to make a lot of saves in SSE in Brawl and even survived Tabuu's Offwaves because he just so happened to eat one of Dedede's badges, and of course you have him being the only survivor of Galeem even though other characters have means of escaping be it by raw speed, teleportation, or going into other dimensions. "Doesn't want to spoil his son" my ass.
(0:10) I would love to have a game mode in smash where every character is their true size to each other. 1,9 cm Olimar vs 20 cm Kirby vs 100 cm Sonic vs 120 cm Lucario. Sadly there's several characters without any true size, like Villager and Isabelle.
I think goldeen is a reference to the show, in one of the episodes of indigo league misty grabs a random poke ball to fight against team rocket and a useless goldeen comes out.
are you really wanting move type effectivness for all pokemon moves in smash? theres a reason why this mechanic was scrapped for the trainer in ultimate cause its trash. while it makes no sense i think for smash its better this way
15:18 I'm pretty sure that this is the case because Earthbound is meant to represent the Earthbound series, which would be why it says Mother in the Japanese version because it is from the Mother series.
4:31 actually, it is an order of one of the games, to be specific the new super mario bros wii game, the order in that game is the same order that in smash
To me the only gripe I have is with the World of Light reveal trailer. When Galeem is killing everyone, when it kills Palutena both Dark Pit and Pit's flight ability gets cancelled, which makes sense in Pit's case but it makes absolutely no sense for Dark Pit, as he got his flight powers from Pandora and does not depend on Palutena or anyone for his flight ability. Worst thing about this is that Sakurai knows this because Dark Pit is HIS character.
The Yoshi's Island stage being from Super Mario World isn't a mistake, as Yoshi's Island is a "sequel" to Super Mario World, along with not having those yellow blocks in Yoshi, but having them in Super Mario World.
There's a Marth tip in the game that says that angled up side b will get you kills... it's tipper kills at like 400%
Like one wise red soldier once said:
*"Holy Mary, mother of Joseph!"*
I thought it was about angled up neutral b dealing more damage
I mean offstage it kills a bit earlier. Like how rob side b kills on stage at around 120, and offstage it kills at -75%
"Things that make no sense" *gives reasonable explanations for the first 3*
And 11
I can explain the Mai thing.
Joker:
Snake: I see right through everything, kid.
@@TheWaverunners true

I believe Mario 3's fight order is canon age order maybe in the cartoon with them its different
I always assumed Lenny was the youngest, cause he’s the smallest, and sounds quite younger than all others.
@@Sp3ctralI I don't know, but Morton and Roy are very likely 2nd and 3rd oldest Koopalings respectively, and here's why:
-Morton is mentioned to be 'one of the older Koopalings', but this might just be to hammer in the fact that he's older than Larry
-Roy says 'Little Brothers are so cowardly!' Which could have either been directed at Iggy or Luigi, the latter of which was angered
-Roy is mentioned to be 'A little heavier than his younger siblings'.

There's several death animations for stamina mode (or instant KOs) that the developers could've used.

Kamek being a Super Mario spirit instead of a Yoshi spirit, despite debuting in Yoshi's Island
Didn't it appear first in Super Mario World?
Yeah I don't think Kamek is really considered his own character in Japan, seeing as all Magikoopas are called Kamek. I guess that's why he's considered a Super Mario character because in Japan, he/they debuted in Super Mario World.
I'm still confused on why Ness does not have PK Rockin' in smash. I personally think that his basic PSI moves could be changed to have PK Rockin' effects but I guess I have to use mods for that. Also Lucas' basic PSI moves look close enough to PK love that I think it's fine.
What does that one do (I haven't played EARTHBOUND yet, so thats why I'm asking)
PK Rockin is Ness' signiture move. It's his only offensive PSI in Earthbound.

Why tf is Robin slow, he is also extremely fast and depending on various factors he can be faster than Lucina, Chrom, Roy, Ike and Marth, yes, all of them, all of them are present in Awakening
Some of them are definitely understandable for one reason or another
A lot of them really. Some of these critiques go beyond the realm of nitpicking but I guess that is the point
IMO the vast majority of these can be explained with either:
1. mechanical balancing
2. aesthetic choices
Most of the things he mentioned aren't at all bad from a game design perspective.
I've actually had Dr. Mario's up b hit twice on the same use, but only once ever, It was super weird

If I remember correctly, the sakurai quote about Mai was more of a joke translation, I think he said something else.
Pyra and Mythra censorship was possible because they're 1st party. If they did that to Mai it'd change too much of her design and I doubt SNK was on board on that. Idk why folks don't get that
"But what about Bayonetta" *oh you mean the character who didn't really get significant redesigns and only gets covered up only in specific moments (aka moments where she'd go nude in the original game)?*
You have a great point
I get that.
I’m completely understanding of why Mai couldn’t be in the game. Unlike some other people.
Bro that Mai censor concept actually looks good, why didn't they do that?
Beats me
Sakurai said that if he did add Mai but censored then it would misrepresented her in the series Sakurai said.
@@UltimateDragonX9999
Then again, Sakurai didn’t want to use Ghostly Adventures Pac-Man or Judgement Simon so kinda understandable.
@@UltimateDragonX9999 if that was the case Bayonetta would have never been in
@@jdysbsunsbsg Lemme stop you right there, Bayonetta has both of her designs completely untouched, the censorship only comes when she uses her hair for attacks, that would leave her naked in the original game, obviously you're not gonna do that in Smash.
And that's it, that's the only change Bayonetta got
What I don't understand is why nintendo didn't just give Mai her Fatal Fury 3 outfit because that one is much less revealing
Byleth is made that way in Smash in order to give him/her a move set.
Sakurai envisioned exiting a replay being unnecessarily complicated by holding four damn buttons.
I can explain the giga cat mario/golf mario discrepancy with irl logic
Cat mario is a furry
Golf mario is rich (he plays golf)
Rich people have more power than furries
For the mewtwo final smash against the dark type Pokémon part I feel like it makes sense that the final smash can hit the dark types because imagine playing with your friend with final smash and you pick mewtwo and your friend counter picks your final smash with a dark type lol
type efectivness in smash would be crap anyway
I agree. It literally lines up with his rationale from the beginning of the video as a change that made for balance and functionality, so I don’t see how it’s something valid to bitch about
I mean, if you wanna get technical, Mewtwo DOES learn Miracle Eye, and it does have infinite duration, so...
12:44 Huge spoilers for xenoblade 1/DE
There isn't really anything that prevents kirby from using the Monado. Dunban is shown to use it in the Prologue although not as well as shulk does. You could also say that kirby is possesed by zanza which would allow him to wield it. Or it could just be a replica monado that looks very similar to the original, which anyone could use.
Too many Fire Emblem characters 20% of the characters are Fire Emblem! (no wonder Tails, Knuckles, Walugi arnt playable)
The reason why it's called Yoshi's Island instead of Super Mario World is because the stage is based on the first world of the game, Yoshi's Island. The way they named it was a bit confusing, but it was technically correct.
The problem I have with it is being labeled as part of the Yoshi series when its based on the 1st world in SMW
@@Siiroth I Think because is also the One Game who gave us Yoshi in the First Place
@@Siiroth Who cars where it take place. Yoshi is the only playable character not mario. The first wario land game had super mario land 3 in the title. Does that means it a mario game too.
@@Siiroth Siiroh, was this video meant to be a full roast on Smash Ultimate, or do you still love the game? Is this video trying to get people to hate the game and diminish it’s strong sales?
Oh no we shouldn’t add Mai, but this obviously sexualized witch is totally fine for the “good boys and girls”
Snake's codex calls were probably unchanged from Brawl because one of the voice actors died, so I guess they couldn't record a new set for ultimate 🤷
It was really funny watching him bitch about them so much when, yeah, the voice actor for them literally passed away, so they were left unchanged as a sign of respect.
RUclipsr:talks about food
Me:let me guess,hello fresh
Love that the implication of the thumbnail is that Siiroth doesn't know that women have boobs.
As a mh fan I’d like to chime in:
The theme referred to as ‘Rathalos’s Theme’ in smash ultimate is actually a generic battle theme for Verdant Hills (ie a song that plays for every monster that doesn’t have its own theme song, such as Rathalos).
The stage you fight Rathalos on in SSBU is Ancestral Steppe, which has an entirely different, and imo, better generic battle theme.
Damn, the Ancestral Steppe theme _is_ better. Pity it isn't used.
some of these I get. Especially when it comes to lore and stuff like that. But it feels like the large majority of these were needless nitpicks, especially when it came to how stages a stage music were categorized.
I don’t see why censorship is that big a problem for Pyra/Mythra, it’s not like they redesigned the entire character
Siiroth: Some stuff are for balancing sake
Also Siiroth: Mewtwo's final smash shouldn't hit Greninja and Incineroar
The snake codec one (outside of bowser) I can fully understand, given that the japanese voice actor for colonel doesn't live anymore, and they can't as seamlessly change it like they could with the removal of 'and his hookshot" from link's
Couldn't they just... not use the Colonel for the new conversations? Just replace him with Raiden or something.
@@HEHEHE_I_AM_A_MASKED_WARRIA some would only make sense to have colonel since thats iconic, but its a trend for japanese developers to not give new lines in crossover games to characters whos VA's died. It's a way of showing respect. they'll do things for mainline games obviously but any crossovers don't
@@HEHEHE_I_AM_A_MASKED_WARRIA an example would be Phil from Hercules. His Japanese VA died, and what they did is just not give him any new lines in KH3. Phil's completely silent
Which is why I said to just not use the character at all and instead use others. Otacon, Mei Ling, Raiden, etc.
@@HEHEHE_I_AM_A_MASKED_WARRIA but colonels already there, and they'd have to write brand new things for the brawl characters if they did. it's just more respectful to leave it as it was, than it is to replace what he's done
5:18 ok but type effectiveness in most fighting games including smash would literally be horrible
In fact, there's an episode where Pikachu kills a Rhydon (an earth type) with Thunderbolt by simply "aiming for the horn"
As for the Up Taunt not dealing damage to itself, there's a practical purpose, in that there's no way that would be useful.
@@deadheat1635 Ken has fundamental differences that cause him to focus more on rushdown on Ryu. Ken is better up close while Ryu does better spacing with Hadokens.

you must've never been hit by Pyra forward smash cause it's definitely special I can guarantee you that
(3:00) I don't even get why Pyra and Myhra are censored.
Actually luigi is based of luigis mansion 3 where he can't jump or wall jump
Also four things in ultimate that make no sense to are:
Ryu and Ken both have the focus attack, but lack the ability to do an FADC(basically it's when you do a input and press the focus button, allowing you to cancel it. If done fast, you are able to cancel out of said attack with a dash, hence the name "focus attack dash cancel").
None of the dlc have palutena's guidances, and they never gave snake updated codex
They got rid of the victory pose for Sheik where she does the iconic sheikah thing, where they hold a finger under they're lip and look away inquisitively.
Snake's codec calls are how they are because the voice actor died and they kept it in without recording new ones out of respect
Mostly Because of Autor Tract...sometimes I Feel Sakurai just focuses on Kirby Content up to Air Ride

I'm pretty sure that this is the case because Earthbound is meant to represent the Earthbound series, which would be why it says Mother in the Japanese version because it is from the Mother series.
But it's pretty much ONLY based on mother 1. Other stages based off specific games are classified under game names and not franchise names
I prefer the name Mother but I always refer to the series with both names when I’m discussing it in a chat.
4:31 actually, it is an order of one of the games, to be specific the new super mario bros wii game, the order in that game is the same order that in smash
@Guest User my bad, did a quick research on google, it seems that what i finded was wrong
If Lemmy were in-between Roy and Wendy, I believe that'd be the boss order they had in NSMB Wii.
The Yoshi's Island stage being from Super Mario World isn't a mistake, as Yoshi's Island is a "sequel" to Super Mario World, along with not having those yellow blocks in Yoshi, but having them in Super Mario World.
