I’m new to sports gaming and I was so frustrated there wasn’t a tutorial anywhere in NHL 24. Thank you for the tutorial! This is wildly helpful and clear.
This was very solid! The stick lift and tie-up I didn’t know. I miss when EA included a training/tutorial which covered moves, and made you complete them to get the 3 checks. 2019 was the last I’ve seen this. Like the slow mo demos you did and. When to use and not to use.
Every time I try to make a move defensively it's a penalty or does nothing. But when I have the puck I get flicked in the face or murdered he loses the puck. I'm a new player and don't know how to play and playing career with a useless player. Just a recipe for frustration and anger.
I’m not a new player and I’m experiencing the EXACT same thing as you. The game is just bad. Play one of the older nhls they are way more enjoyable than this trash
You can get away with so much interference and simultaneously you can’t get away with anything this year it’s crazy. Like I’ve had guys full truculence body check my guys without the puck and nothing but I’m trying to smack a rebound and flicking up causing my guy to smack a player instead of the puck and that’s gonna get a penalty.
@@Etanyosit’s not random. He’s complaining about when he gets hit immediately after a shot or probably a pass. It’s a legal hit. He just doesn’t know the rules. As far as trying to go for a shot, you’re spamming the shoot button without even knowing if you have the puck,, you deserve the penalty.
Would say you can also tie up stick in front of the net by holding A (X) but they have to basically not be moving. I've not had much luck with tie up net battles either. Even getting poked from behind when skating it out. And although LB shot block not the best, that was actually how I got my early levels, find it pretty easy to LB bloc, it's been fairly reliable, which is why to goalies, unless there's no defender in front I'd stay standing for the high shot.
Thanks for you video. Its my first time nhl. Which of the 3 controlling option that i can choose, i have to choose, if i want to play with your controlling
The flip clearance hasn’t changed. It’s always been RB/R1 flip up on skill stick. People have been just wristing it in the past. Which hats off to EA cause there’s a difference IRL too.
I’ve played 38 games as an offensive defenseman. I have 10 goals and 47 assists. I join the rush sometimes and I always back check. I rarely body check, or stick check. It seems some people when playing 6v6 feel strongly about a dman joining the rush and joining the rush in the neutral zone and then stopping at the blue line on the point. Why is this?
is good but i have a problem when i play in career mode the circle button is now work for body checking is for like the player go automatly to the bench for player change and idk how to change it someone knows pls because idk how
You don't want to have your player in the way of it. You want your stick in the lane, with a minimal need to reach. LT also increases the chance that you will intercept greatly. If you are playing chel with a d guy you will want to have at least high 80s defensive awareness, the squid perk is very helpful also. I also find that taller players are much better at intercepting the puck, my guy is 6'3. I will say that 6'1 is the "meta" but I find the taller 6'3 is more effective for me.
Great video do u use hybrid Controls or skill stick? I don't know how to use skill stick can u be a good defender with hybrid controls? Thanks for your the info
I personally use skill stick. Honestly, there is not a lot of variation between the two controller settings, just a couple buttons swapped here and there. My best advice for becoming a good defender in NHL (especially 24) is to be patient. Don't over commit to plays, keep your defensive structure with your team and you'll keep getting better!
@davidhoughton5653 for zone defending, I would recommend sticking to between 1 and 3 defenders you switch to. If you're playing the transition then go for the puck more than playing a zone defense and letting the ai do some work l
@@system331 got a lot better since complaining here. Still dont use that mechanic like all the elites do. It takes away the feel of an actual hockey game. I love using the dekes and snapping the puck around passing. Ill use it in a realistic way when driving around someone but thats about it
anyone watching this after november 23, hip checking has been patched severely and requires much more timing and speed to work properly, so don’t rely on them like the previous update allowed us to 👍👍
Great news for the hip checks! Haven't played this game yet but I always considered to be in the minority for using it. It was very effective in 22 and 23 as a D man. I'm assuming it's back to normal. Boards is where you want to use it at most time's. It's fool proof. 1/2 when I want to keep a puck up top near near my half wall, I elected to send them flying mid air to crash into the board's. In the DZ if they're setup and their D man comes down your lane, hip checks in the corner. If someone is going around your net, hip checks them. There's so many places to use it lol.
How do you get the 'Extend the twig' achievement. Is there a good time to laydown the defensive stick to deflect a shot away from the goalie. ...And have you tried using this in 1's eliminator.
@@Etanyos I believe it's hybrid. I will have to check next time I'm playing. I usually hit the d pad to the right and it brings up who's on the floor and some players will have a low orange bar and when I highlight them no matter what button I push I can't swap them out. I'll probably have to go to my settings and do some adjusting.
You either need to bump players away from the front of the net by using the left joystick, or you need to tie them up by pressing left trigger when you get near them
How do some players only just magnetically steal the puck from you with such ease??? No poke checks, stick lifts, bumps or anything!! @8BYTENYTE Okay, my only recommendation to you are to get your player between the defender and the puck carrier when they have possession in your end. Maybe try giving the dman a few shoves with tye right stick to when you're close to him. Just one at a time or you'll take interference penalties

If they wanna make this game actually realistic, they need to tone down the penalties. There is absolutely no way humanly possible that many penalties happen in a game. It’s a complete joke!
You’re basically reciting the menu and using common sense. A tip would be to talk about holding B vs tapping B to check. Up in the right stick to shove in front of the net. Tie up is essential for defending in front of the net. Long breakout passes aren’t advisable unless using a perk or using high passing and other stats. We have talked about back skating vs forward skating in the D zone, what handedness you should be for side, position and player you should be watching. Come on bud. Zero tips here. Did I mention gap control? Anyways good presentation but maybe get a little more in depth.
Totally agree BAP is trash. XP platform is worthless, so much would love for Dumbass EA would go back to XP platform from 14. Manually put your points where you want.
Well if you can't understand basic positioning, then idk if this video will help you. You can't make plays if you're out of position. Simple as that. This is for all the players who can initially keep their defenders in position lol
I meant more so there’s no videos explaining basic defence. That’s why when you go into drop ins it’s a mess. This teaches the basic inputs of the game and gives good information about the inputs. But it would have been 5star if you explained transition back into the dzone or how to play when they’re cycling around the boards in the dzone
I’m an owner for a team in one of the smaller leagues and it’s hard trying to teach new people to the game about the game of hockey. Was hoping this video helped. It’s still a good video just wasn’t what I was looking for.
