- Emerging cicadas are so loud in one South Carolina county that residents are calling the sheriff's office asking why they can hear a "noise in the air that sounds like a siren, or a whine, or a roar." CBS News' John Dickerson has details.

The sheriff arrested the cicadas and they’re now awaiting trial
3 separate cicadas are pressing charges 😂
Got released no bail. They will return in 17 years for the trial
They will probably fall asleep in court and pass gas.
Unlikely, cuz the cicadas aren't black
@@ChineduOparaWell, based on the news footage, they are.
I live in SC, there super loud but calling 911, give me a break. They are here every yr I hear them. There might be a lot more but Ive lived here for 40 yrs.
They can't even bite or defend themselves against any harm or predator. They're only here to mate, lay their eggs and pass away.
It's just a Natural event just like we know mosquitoes will be here biting all of us until Fall. Nature has cycles, at least cicada's don't bite, nor do they drink your blood and leave itchy welts on your skin or carry viruses or Malaria. Cicada's just vibrate their Love Songs very loud.
911 is over the top, but to be fair, this year, 2024, we’ve experienced the largest brood in the world’s emergence, XIX. The 13year and 17year brood emerged at the same time this year, they overlapped, so there are a LOT more than normal. This pair hasn’t emerged at the same time in 220+ years, billions came out.
I love their sound. Hope they‘re having a great time!
it has been 10 years for those poor guys I'd be screaming 😱 too 😅
Just when i thought I couldn't possibly lose any more faith in humanity, we have geniuses calling the police on an insect. I'm done.
I have been done years ago.
I mean, south Carolina has some real... Intellectual gems
They obviously don’t know it’s an insect. Given their dormancy period, it’s likely that these people have never heard the sound before. If the cicadas aren’t directly around them, they have know way of knowing it’s an insect and not their neighbors being incredibly obnoxious.
Before the “found the Karen who called the cops” comments, I know the sound of cicadas very well and wouldn’t call the cops for much of anything, but I’m also a logical thinking person with a basic amount of empathy for my fellow human.
It's happening! This hasn't happened since President Jefferson was in office and it won't happen again until 2245. I know it's loud but they won't harm you. They're incredible creatures and good for our eco system. They've come out of the ground to finish their circle of life.
Where did you get 2245
😂
@@SUGAR_XYLER I think there are 2 types of bugs (cicadas) coming out of the ground. They did the math.
@@SUGAR_XYLER Because Cicada broods often emerge together but this year will mark the first time in more than 200 years that Brood XIX, which arrives every 13 years, and Brood XIII, which arrives every 17 years, will emerge at the same time. The next co-emergence of these broods won’t happen for another 221 years.
The sheriff is gonna come out n tell the cicadas to be quiet 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Actually, he'll let his glocks do the talking
Maybe they’ll Deport em! 😂
@@blossom1643 Maybe, but cicadas are not Mexican...
Every year I hear them in Japan for at least one month. Not all that bad. I am just thankful these critters don't bite or get into the flat.
Not comparable
Wow….. that would drown out my tinnitus
😂😂😂😂
The frequency is bringing something in
...such as stupid calls to the Sherriff's office?
smart man
😂 people are strange.
People are ignorant. Oftentimes wilfully.
People get some head phones or ear plugs while they are breeding. Sheriff's can't do anything about Nature?
the sounds of male cicadas, who not unlike participants at a house party, are singing to attract mates'
What makes this joke even greater is he said it very newscaster professional.
Arrest all of the cicadas
Xi Jinping often hears multiple *voices* that are male, nasty, and repetitive *in his head.*
- The voices demand that "if you can steal it, steal it."
Not as bad as the invasion in the Southern border!
So, many people complaining about the cicada's noise. Yeah, the same people calling landscapers to mow their useless, toxic herbicide ladden grass, so they can enjoy the sounds of the beautiful and soothing leaf blower/grass mower symphony sounds.
With the economy as it is, grow something you can actually eat, people! Don't be pendejo!
(Also, don't forget the idiots driving around with modified mufflers raising hell, wherever they go!)
How do you call on something that you clearly know has taken over your area. 😳🙄
It's South Carolina. The state is full of Karens.
@@ImGettingOld911The worst type of Karens: ignorant Karens
Annual Cicadas don't make this much noise. To be fair, this many cicadas from Brood X can sound just like emergency sirens or screams for help. It can be extremely painful to some with sensitive hearing. These people weren't calling about insects. This happened in other states a couple of years back. People think there is an emergency.
@@ChineduOpara It's also ignorant and immature to use a nice name instead of a proper word from the dictionary. I'm sure these people felt unsafe.
I enjoy cicadas, I also love fireworks. But some people become frightened or even traumatized by loud noises especially when they don't know where they're coming from. Try being kind, please.
@@raea3588 When someone is that stupid you gotta say something. Being nice just encourages more bad behavior.
Did they at least call the non-emergency number? Cuz if not that feels like something they should be charged for.. tying up emergency lines over something like this. What do they expect them to do?
The people that call this in, struggle with simple concepts and tasks.
I have lost all faith in mankind in the last 10 years.
Measurement of sound in DB works in magnitudes of 10. So 120Db is 4 times as loud as 100 Db. They're making it seem like the cicadas are almost as loud as a Jet.
Cicadas are out
Karen's
I mean yes... But they are super loud. It's another reason I don't want to move back to the south.
How stupid do you have to be to complain about cicadas? I hear them every year
Wow. How long will this last.
All summer 😂
Ignorance in the south is eternal, sadly
@@SUGAR_XYLER do the do it all night long?
@@ChineduOpara ignorance is eternal wherever you're from, sadly. These are 13 year Magicicada which only emerge once every 13 years, and like they said, are EXTREMELY loud.
Must be a transplant.
If you yell shut up loud enough they will stop for a few seconds
The Cicada's agreed to turn the music down, the party was getting a little out of hand..
SIGNOS NG DYOS!!!

I'm in Newberry County In the town of Prosperity. I just thought I was hearing machinery or something off in the distance but it was concerning enough to call the sheriff even though it is loud😂!
LOL, What did they think they could do? That’s what curious minds want to know! 😅
i hate this state so much. cicadas help us true south carolinians sleep because sometimes it’s the only steady sound
Nice
They sound like a screaming demon! Freaky af
Was just doin research on this weird omnipresent noise😹
A plague of locusts on South Carolina? Oh, the irony...
Okay I do have a confession to make LOL where I live at in Western Kentucky they've been doing this here now for the past few days I thought it was a security alarm going off their first for some reason and I called dispatch and I noticed the sound that wasn't stopping call them again and they told me that the police officer heard nothing I told them my area in town where I was and then my dad pointed out that it was cicadas so yes I'm guilty of this but like I said I thought it was a security alarm like a burglar alarm going off somewhere
😂😂😂😂😂
🤨
😂
KKonaW
Must be Yankees calling the sheriff
😂 You KNOW it !! Or the Border Invasion people. I don’t know what’s Worse ✌️
